How to Crochet a Cat Hat

going to be crocheting this super cute hat for your cat. Hat for your cat, that actually rhymes. So Lana loved it, this hat. She's six months old now and And Leon, he doesn't like me putting anything on him. He's 11 years old, so I guess that's why.

But it also fits him. So this hat actually fits most cats. So I think this is that kind of project that it's one size fits all.

But I am going to give you guys some little tips throughout the video. to make fit your cat perfectly too and as you can see there are little holes for your cat ears so they're not gonna get annoyed and then this is how it looks on the inside and we have little ties as well here at the bottom so this is what we are going to be learning in today's video i really hope you like it and now let's begin first starting with the materials i am using here the armstrong yarn by teslan.com this yarn it's a 72 percent alpaca 8% wool and 20% polyamide yarn and this yarn here it's a iron slash chunky yarn it's kind of in between that and I'm going to be using here a mustard shade because it's autumn and I want Lana to have a autumn hat and then for the tools I am using a spool of scissors a 4.5 millimeters hook and a tapestry needle so that we can do all the weave-ins you So these are all the materials. So now we can begin with this super cute little hat for our cats.

So you can decide if you want to do a magic ring or chain and join to create a ring. But I'm going to be doing a little bit different. So I'm going to be starting with a slip knot. And then I'm going to be chaining three.

I'm going to be using this very first chain to create the first round. So into the very first chain I'm going to be making six half double crochets. So this very first chain that we have here does not count as a stitch.

So go around and create six half double crochets into that first chain. So once you have six half double crochets, we are going to now slip stitch into this very first one. You can count backwards to know which one you have to slip stitch. So one, two, three, four, five.

This is... the first half double crochet, so go into that and slip stitch just like this. And now we have the first round completed.

We are going to be starting with a chain of one for the next round but not counting as a stitch and then into this very first stitch we are going to be making two half double crochets and then go into the following stitch two half double crochets and then repeat the same all the way around. So we are going to be increasing into every stitch around. So for the following one we are going to be having 12 stitches in total. Once you have the 12 you will have a stitch here that looks like a stitch but is not really a stitch so make sure that you don't do anything on that stitch. So just stop when you have the correct stitch count around so 12 stitches.

and then go into the very first half double crochet and then you're going to slip stitch. Now for the final round to create the top of the hat, this little round here. We are going to be starting with a chain of one, not counting as a stitch, and then we are going to be doing just one half double crochet into the very first stitch, and then the following one is going to be an increase, so two half double crochets into the next stitch, and then the following one is going to be one, half double crochet only and then the next one is going to be an increase.

So two half double crochets into the same stitch and then keep on repeating the same all the way around. So one half double crochet into the next stitch and two half double crochets into the following one. And for this next round, the third round, we are going to be having 18 stitches. So now we can go into that very first half double crochet and then we are going to slip stitch and now here the round is completed and this has to go from one side of the ear to the other, just the beginning of the ear to the other side, just right at the top of the head. So now we are going to be creating the chains on both sides into the next round to make the little holes for your cat ears.

So we are going to be starting exactly the same as before, so chain one and one half double crochet into this very first stitch. The very first stitch is where you do the slip stitch, if you are wondering. So now we are going to be making one half double crochet into the next four stitches and in total here at the beginning we are going to be having five half double crochets.

So one, two, three, four and five. And now you're gonna have to make a chain that is gonna go around your cat's ear. Mine, for Lana, it's a chain of 10, so that's what I'm going to be doing.

6, 7, 8, 9, 10. And you want to make sure that this chain is really nice and comfortable around their ear, because you don't want them to feel uncomfortable at all. I know that this hat is just going to be for taking one or two pictures or making maybe a little video. because we know cats, right?

They are going to be removing this right after five minutes of wearing it, so you want to make sure that this is super, super comfortable for them. So now go ahead and skip four stitches. So here we have this half double crochet, so skip one, two, three, four, into the following one, into that fifth stitch, we are going to half double crochet, and then we are going to half double crochet into the next four stitches. in which in total it's five so that is the same here as on the other side so one two three four five one two three four and five half double crochets here on the other side and now you can do exactly the same so here at the end we should have four stitches left so we are going to again chain 10. And then you're going to skip all the four stitches and you're going to slip stitch into that very first half double crochet. So this is what we have so far.

So this is gonna go right on top of your cat's head and then these are the little holes for the ears. So my circle, the very first circle that I've created, it's actually six centimeters, just if you are wondering about the circle. So now let's move on into the following. round in which is round number five is it one two three four yeah five so we are going to be starting with a chain of one and then half double crochet into this very first stitch remember that the chain one does not count as a stitch so now you're going to be creating one half double crochet into the next four stitches you And in total here at the beginning we are going to be having five half double crochets as you can see.

So following exactly the same as the previous round. So now we go into the chain space and right here we are going to be adding one extra half double crochet into this chain space when we do all the half double crochets. So instead of doing 10 half double crochets, we are going to be adding one more in which is 11 half double crochets.

So you're going to be doing the same, so you're just going to remember how many chains you did. So for example, if you did 11 chains, you're going to be doing 12, just adding one more half double crochet into the chain. And we are not going to go into the chain, we are going to go around the chain like this.

So going around the chain, create 11 half double crochets. Thank you Now here's the last one, so half double crochet number 11. So this is how it looks like. And now you're going to be following what you have into the previous round and you're going to be creating one half double crochet into the next five stitches, in which is into the half double crochet stitches.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5. And now you can do the same here into the other side, into the chain space. So 11 half double crochets into the chain space. Here we have the last one, so half double crochet number 11 and all you have to do now is to slip stitch to the very first half double crochet. So now here we have the chain space now covered with half double crochets and this is how it looks like as you can see it's so cute so now we are going to be following what we have into the previous round and we are going to be doing half double crochets all the way around with no increases no decreases just half double crochets all the way around so chain one half double crochet into this very first stitch and then one half double crochet into every stitch around following the stitches of the previous round. So into the previous round we have 32 half double crochets.

So for this one, we are also going to be having 32 half double crochets. You can always go back and count to see if you have the 32 stitches and then you're going to slip stitch into the very first half double crochet and now we have basically the top of the hat now completed and here is when you have to choose if you want to add more length to the hat. I think this is a good length but if you want to cover a little bit more your cat's head then add one more going around.

So now we are going to be doing the ruffle brim in which it looks like this. And we are going to be doing just two rounds as you can see so it's pretty simple. And for this first round we are going to be working into the front loops only to make the brim sticking out and not go down with the actual hat. So when you do front loop only it creates this little relief. Stitch here as you can see at the back and it makes the brim go upwards instead of downwards So we are going to be starting with the chain on one Not counting as a stitch and then you're going to be starting right into this very first stitch where we did the slip stitch So it's going to be front loop only so we have the back loop and the front loop.

So going to the front loop only as you can see and then half double crochet just one for the beginning here and then the next one is going to be an increase so two half double crochets and it's also going to be front loop only so you can see the back loop it's right here at the back so i'm not getting both loops Now it's going to be front loop only and one half double crochet into the next stitch and then following stitch front loop only and two half double crochets into the same stitch and then just keep on repeating the same steps all the way around and then I'll meet you right at the end. So as you can see I'm here at the end of round number seven and the last stitch is going to be, remember that is front loop only and it's going to be an increase, so two half double crochets into the same stitch. Now we can slip stitch into the very first stitch.

the very first half double crochet and this is now round number seven completed and you can see that it looks really nice and it's kind of like sticking upwards instead of downwards. Now we are going to be making the last round with the ruffles and it's super simple all you have to do is to start with the chain one and in each stitch around we are going to be doing three half double crochets into one stitch and that's what's going to be creating the ruffles all the way around just like this around the brim. So go into the first stitch, create three half double crochets into the same stitch, next stitch three half double crochets into the same stitch. Following stitch, three half double crochets.

So just keep on repeating the three half double crochets into the same Same stitch all the way around and then I'm going to meet you right at the end and also for this round we are using the entire stitch. Not the front loop only anymore, so the entire stitch as you can see, so both loops. So I got at the end of round number eight, our last round, and into the last stitch you are also going to be doing exactly the same.

So three half double crochets into the last stitch and then find the very first one, slip stitch, Both sides, chain one, now we can cut off the yarn and fasten off. So the brim once you finish is going to look like this, so what you want to do now is just to curl around how you want it to look like. It's going to be everywhere now so if you just go around fixing it, it's going to stay how you want it. There we go, as you can see. So now we can weave in before we add the little um, tie-ins on the sides.

So I'm going to thread the middle yarn into a tapestry needle and what you want to do is just find stitches So I'm doing here on the reverse. So go through a couple of stitches and then you're going to skip the first one, go back into those same stitches, skip the first little loop at the beginning and then go back into those same stitches. So that's how you weave in.

Once that's done, cut off the yarn and move on into the following one. So for the little tie-ins on the sides we are going to be starting with the slip knot. So now you have to choose where the tie-ins are going to go. So just fold the hat in half here on the reverse and then you're going to be choosing two stitches.

on the sides and the stitches you are going to be getting are the back loop that it's here into the reverse of the hat you can see the back loops so we are going to be getting those two stitches that you can see right here so the back loop and the one just below the stitch so those are the stitches that you want to mark it down so I'm going to get one on this side you and then another one on the other side so you can see one here. So these are the two stitches that we are going to be doing the tie-ins in. So now you're gonna get your hook with your yarn and then into that stitch you're going to go through those two little loops find two loops here at the back and then you're going to pull up a loop and then yarn over and pull through both loops attaching the yarn with the single crochet and then you're going to create a chain that it's as long as you want. So I did a chain of 25 so once you have the chain that you want for the tying you are going to chain an extra one chain and then you're going to be cutting the yarn but you can cut pretty close to the fasten off that you're gonna do now so just a couple of centimeters like two centimeters as you can see and then you're going to fasten off and you're still gonna have a long tail so just cut a short tail like this and this is how I decided to leave it but it's going to be completely up to you on how you want to do the finishing. I do like it like this and now we can do another one here on the other side so exactly the same and now we can weave in these two yarns here on the reverse and our hat is basically now completed.

So now here we have the hat now completed. I have the other one here as well. So this is my second attempt on this. This was the first one.

Actually I didn't change anything because the pattern was perfect when I first did it. so I've just created the same one for you guys to show you how to do it and it looks super cute.
