Stone Casting Process

Preparation

  • Gloves: Do not wear gloves initially.
  • Materials Needed:
    • Stone
    • Mixing bowl
    • Alginate (negative impression)
    • Vibrator
    • Spatula
  • Stone Measurement: Use one cup (one blue cup) of stone per model.

Steps for Mixing Stone

  1. Initial Mixing (No Gloves):

    • Add water to stone slowly.
    • Stir gradually until all powder is incorporated.
    • Aim for a thick mix that doesn’t fall off the spatula.
  2. Using the Vibrator:

    • Place the mix on a vibrator for a few seconds to eliminate air bubbles.
    • Start pouring from one end of the alginate mold.
    • Keep alginate against the vibrator and spatula in the air.
    • Continue until stone reaches the last tooth impression.
    • Ensure there are no bubbles visible.
  3. Adding More Stone:

    • Add more stone in larger increments, filling in gaps.
    • Remove from vibrator once filled.
  4. Building the Base:

    • Build up the remaining stone above tray level like a cupcake or ice cream.
    • Use all available stone to avoid waste.
    • Flip the mold gently and jiggle to set the base.

Finalizing

  • Ensure the base is formed without air bubbles and the stone is fully set.
