Overview

  • Objective: Analyze a film using various motivational theories.
  • Film Options:
    1. The Martian
    2. 127 Hours
    3. ALIVE (about a rugby/soccer team)
    4. Apollo 13
  • Platform Availability: Find the film on Netflix, Amazon, etc.

Task Instructions

  • Choose one film from the list to analyze.
  • Apply the following motivational theories to scenes in the film:
    1. Instinct Theory
    2. Incentive Theory
    3. Drive-Reduction Theory
    4. Arousal Theory
    5. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
    6. Expectancy Theory

Analysis Structure

  • For each theory:
    • Describe the Scene: Identify and describe a scene (doesn’t need to be critical).
    • Apply the Theory: Explain how the theory accounts for the behaviors of characters in the scene.

Presentation Options

  • Structured Table:
    • Use the format below for each theory:
      • Theory: Name of the theory
      • Scene: Description of the scene
      • Application: Explanation of the theory in context
  • Paragraph Format:
    • Write 10 paragraphs, one for each scene and theory.
  • Creative Presentation: Use innovative ways to present the analysis.
