Overcoming Phone Addiction Tips

let's be honest we're all addicted to our phones do you ever go on your phone to check one thing but you end up spending hours scrolling in your phone without even realizing leaving your works or assignments incomplete and the day is already coming to an end so you procrastinate these tasks to another day and it's just a NeverEnding cycle so you end up feeling frustrated and annoyed with yourself for leaving all these tasks in the last minute I personally also go on my phone a lot trying to keep up with YouTube and my other social media accounts but I am also trying to reduce my screen time for when I'm not doing any productive tasks so in this video I'm going to be walking you guys through 15 tips to stop your phone addiction and stop wasting your time the first tip I have is to understand why you're going your phone in the first place is it because you're bored anxious or you're trying to procrastinate or avoid something if you're bored list out your favorite hobbies or try new hobbies that you've been wanting to do and if you notice you distract yourself from a task by going your phone break your task down to feel less overwhelmed making it smaller easier and more achievable for you I'm going to quickly show you guys the sets I take to break down my larger tasks to make them less overwhelming so for example if I want to clean my room usually I would start with writing down the materials or supplies I'll need to clean my room from there I'll list the tasks required to clean my room including the Clutter organizing and cleaning and then break those three tasks down even further if you're anxious or you just want to shut down your thoughts and just go on social media to distract yourself try Wellness activities such as meditation a simple stretch or go on a walk outside to your local cafe or just the nearest park my second tip is to make your phone physically less accessible by hiding your phone in places like the drawer another room in your bag the less convenient it is for you to get a hold of your phone the less likely you'll use your phone consider not charging it in your room or your bedside table to avoid temptation of using your phone especially at night next is to set daily app limits to track and limit your screen time there are features on phones to set daily limits on apps and once you've reached that limit the app will be locked for the rest of the day go into your settings app and click on screen time then tap app limits and select one or more app categories you'd like to set a limit on and then tap add on the top right to set the amount of time allowed for each day instead of mindlessly scrolling and not knowing that hours have passed this lock feature restrict and reminds you of how long you've been on social media next is to change your way of communication my main communication with my family and friends is through iMessages because when you text people for example on Instagram their profile picture still has that story Circle so when you click on it you're going to check everyone else's and then you're going to check your explore page but iMessage does not have any of those features you just send that text check your messages and you're done with that app just to clarify I'm not saying you need to cut off your friends who use Snapchat or Instagram as a main way of communication instead it's about finding a balance consider moving those important conversations over to iMessage or another basic messaging app like WhatsApp cuz those social media platforms are designed to keep keep you hooked and by separating your serious conversations from the distractions you take better control of your own time my next tip is kind of similar to my first one and that is to discover new interests instead of having your phone as your main hobby replace that time spent on social media working towards a new hobby or a project for example journaling or pursuing a hobby that requires you to stay engaged example sign up to a pti's class go with a friend or sign up for free trial classes that have cancellation fees so that you're forced to kind of go or else you will have to pay the cancellation fee next is something I'm also trying to work on and that is no screen time during meals I am guilty of finding something to watch when I eat and this is especially hard when you're living alone and have no one else interact with when you're eating but I am slowly learning to appreciate These Quiet Moments I have with my own thoughts and if you live with family or roommates have conversations about anything with them including life updates or potential future plans my next tip is is to remind yourself that your thoughts are not your reality in my last year of high school we had to go on a 3-day camping trip without phones and I was feeling uncomfortable thinking about how I would be able to go 3 days without my phone and after that camping trip I realized that I can live and go through each day without my phone because when we didn't have our phones I was truly a part of every moment of that trip and I didn't have the urge to take out my phone and scroll at all be in the moment because the trip or the event is not going to last forever and just because you you think you can't do something does not mean that it's true now I completely understand some people myself included like to take photos or videos for memories to look back on and that's totally okay but put the phone away and be present in the moment after for example you might have the thought of I need to check my phone right now what if I missed something but the truth is you probably didn't miss anything urgent and that feeling is just a habit from constantly using your phone and recognizing that your thoughts don't always reflect reality is essential for breaking that addiction and regaining control over your life Embrace every moment and you might discover a much more fulfilling experience than you expected next is to realize those physiological signs before it's too late these include your eye strain or the nauseating feeling you have when you are on your phone for too long acknowledge how your body responds to prolonged phone usage and notice early signs of discomfort so you can reduce your screen time earlier give your eyes a break and remember to look at something far away out a window to give your eye muscles a break to relax and recover next tip is to engage in Creative therapy such as painting coloring if you need inspiration set time for yourself to complete the research for certain art techniques or collect inspiration print it out for your own reference during your creative session you can refer to these printed Inspirations to help avoid aimless scrolling my next tip is in regards to social connections I know a lot of people use social media nowadays to stay connected and form new social connections and don't get me wrong like social media has been an amazing way to meet new people and and form new connections with people who have the same interests as you living in the same city but especially with your close friends or if you've started to build this friendship how to build it offline meet up with them for coffee dinner go on walk or integrate social connections into your daily life for example Creer the grocery store together because you both need to do grocery shopping every week cuz conversations can go for so long especially online or if you and your friend both have the same assignment to complete but you're both getting distracted from texting each other meet up together and a Li and complete these assignments together and if you have so much to talk about let them all out in person have a conversation face to face next is your alarm I know a lot of us have an alarm set for our phones and personally for me I am able to just click stop and get on with my morning routine but I know a lot of people who aren't able to do that and continue to click snooze or going on their phone straight after you wake up and my tip is to just use a traditional alarm my tip if you have to reach out for your phone first thing in the morning to check all your social media platforms and your messages and your emails establish a morning routine that doesn't involve your screen so drink a cup of water first do your skin care because might have received some bad news that just ruins your entire mood for the rest of the day if you start with something enjoyable like drinking a cup of matcha and journal that starts your day off on a positive note next is to be in control be in control of your life and this is all about your mindset minimize your distractions to allow yourself to concentrate on things that actually matter unsubscribe and de your emails certain group chat and unfollow accounts that do not add value or joy into your life next is to read now I know you probably hear read a book so often but this is a very important tip find a book about something you're interested in so many books about everything including a story teaches you a new skill or something about lifestyle whatever you're interested in aim to read five or 10 pages a day and see where that takes you my next tip is to delete distractions what I mean by this is to delete the social media apps that is keeping you distracted during my final exams in high school I completely deleted all my social media apps try living your life without these apps you may feel left out because you're seeing all your friends living their life you don't need to share every single moment of your life on social media and you don't need to consume other people's life every second of the day delete those apps especially if it's affecting your mental health and well-being to be honest I didn't delete YouTube because it's one of the only platforms that offers long firm content that doesn't require me to constantly interact or scroll on my phone and I enjoy having something playing in the background while I do my work it also provides me with educational documentaries podcasts and informative videos that I personally don't find in short form content like reals or Tik Tok but with that said if you find yourself binge watching YouTube videos or non-stop scrolling on shorts you might want to consider deleting this app as well next is your notifications if you still have the urge to redownload these apps or you can't delete these apps for certain reasons just turn off those notifications and have it on do not disturb for example your emails those promotions turn those notifications off and you can set certain notifications from certain people for example your parents for them to contact you during emergencies turn off notifications for things that don't really add value into your life if it's just group chats that gossip or emails letting you know that there is a sale coming up turn those notifications off lastly is a reminder that you cannot change things overnight these have to be applied consistently for weeks and months so don't be too hard on yourself if you still go on social media it takes time to reset your brain and mindset and apply these changes into your lifestyle and a reminder that these are all just suggestions based on my personal experience they may not work for you but it's all about finding what helps you manage your phone usage and your life effectively try different methods and see what works for you and that is all for today's video thank you all so much for watching and I'll see you on my next one bye [Music]
