Pelvic Bone Anatomy and Gender Differences

so what we're looking at here are the two pelvises so this is a male and this is a female and so just kind of looking at the the structures that we see here you're going to see lumbar vertebrae here this is the sacrum this right here is the coccyx this is the ilium this is the pubis bone back here is the ischium that's the acetabulum obturator foramen this is the iliac crest that's the anterior superior iliac spine is the anterior inferior iliac spine something that we didn't cover on the last model here and that's this this is the pubic symphysis right here we see that on the male and also on the female here as well to distinguish these two one of the things we can do is we can turn these around and we can look down in here so we look at the male pelvis we see they have a large toxic versus the female coccyx is very small and also the female coccyx is movable and females also have smaller ischial spines where the ischial spine is very large on the male and obviously you can see that the opening on the male is much smaller than it is on the female
