Fallout 4: Enhancing Survival with Mods

survival mode is the single best way to experience fallout 4. upping the difficulty upping the survivability elements of this game really just bring a whole new set of features to it and make it a lot more interesting but for some people survival mode is simply too punishing and too frustrating to play so in this video what i want to show you are a set of mods that i think will up the immersive survival factor of fallout 4 without making it ridiculously difficult unless you want it that way it'll definitely make certain aspects of the game more difficult but i think not too much and still gives you enough customizability so you can keep things fun and not overly frustrating but before we dive into that we have to say a thank you to the force that has been protecting this channel ground up and now it is basically a totally new mod with maim 2.0 mame is a single mod you could download that can really turn fallout 4 into a real gritty survival experience and it's really going to impact the game in two major ways combat encounters with enemies and what happens when you actually get shot so one hand it'll overhaul how you can damage enemies headshots are now completely lethal unless a helmet is being worn by an enemy you can their limbs as always but if you an enemy's limbs now to carry a bonus like making them drop their weapon flee in terror so you know if they broke their legs their arms they might want to run away from the fight instead of staying in it or even just knock the enemy down entirely so when you get into combat there's a whole new incentive to really try and focus on where you're firing whether it just be a head shot like that's always a thing but even focusing on the limbs now has certain benefits and this will also apply to you you'll want to wear a helmet with this mod is enemies can quickly take you out headshots are also one shot lethal against you if you're not wearing a helmet and actually has this cool feature where even if you are wearing a helmet if an enemy successfully headshots you you're gonna get this contusion gameplay moment where it's going to have a powerful and all-encompassing on-screen effect and you kind of be briefly stunned because you know you still did just get shot in the head even though your helmet saved your life and one of the most impactful features overall is bleeding now when shooting enemies will trigger a bleed on some of these shots depending on where the shot lands and even the caliber type versus their armor and this will also naturally apply to you as well which kind of transitions us into our second section where meme will overhaul what happens to you when an enemy does land shots on you the mod is largely broken up into three categories with emergency healing pain and really fixing the issue now in combat in particular with higher caliber rounds or just a lot of bullets in general they will pierce your armor and hurt you this will open up a wound and you'll have to address that this is the simple side we're going to be bleeding out so you're going to have to bandage yourself up you'll have both chest bandages and also things for your arms or legs i know there's actually a lot of mods out there that have a bleed mechanic and having to bandage yourself to stop the bleed this takes things a step further with pain just because you stopped the bleed doesn't mean you're not in pain you actually still are in pain and pain will have a big gameplay impact you'll have difficulty aiming you might have blurred vision or even not be able to sprint or move accordingly but naturally to address that there are a variety of painkillers including a very common one with alcohol you could use alcohol in mame to actually numb the pain and continue on in the fight temporarily remove that debuff and even has a whole hangover mechanic if you use too much alcohol i don't know all that is kind of one half of this that's the stuff you're gonna have to do while in the middle of combat if you end up getting shot after combat officially ends you're gonna have to take measures to actually fix the issue you might have temporarily stopped the pain and bandaged up the wound but now you might have to do things like use a surgery kit to perform a blood transfusion on yourself to have long-term health restore to actually fix that body part naturally with this there is going to be a bunch of new aid items added into fallout 4 that will appear all throughout the world there's even these new enemies to pop up with the brotherhood of steel and the gunners that will drop these aid items them being medic enemies any points this could actually get a bit overwhelming there's so many different things it's kind of hard to track what items you need to address each injury but they actually just recently released an optional update for this mod where it can simplify this known as meme light it'll actually take the amount of aid items and turn it down quite a bit so it's a lot easier to follow there still is that component of having to stop bleeds having to use painkillers and having to fix it after but not as many items so it's not nearly as overwhelming the effect this will have overall is you're gonna have to go into gun fights and really the gameplay of fallout 4's combat overall is slowed down you're going to want to avoid getting shot in fallout 4 and even invest in higher caliber or armor-piercing weapons and even armor for yourself going into combat and trying to pick off as many enemies ahead of time is now incredibly valuable getting flanked and having somebody blast you with a shotgun or get a few rounds into you with an smg can be very deadly very quickly running and gunning just doesn't work anymore if you run into a bunch of enemies even if they're lower level they will quickly get a bunch of hits on you when you'll probably just die before you could actually apply bandages and painkillers and i like how this mod does have the effect of evening the playing field a lot of the things that apply to you also apply to enemies so you have some additional avenues to handle combat encounters overall one that i think has a really positive influence and impact on fallout 4. in particular with meme light it's kind of a lighter version of making fallout 4's combat mechanics a bit more interesting and although that's one aspect of fallout 4's combat one aspect of surviving in fallout 4 making those combat encounters more interesting you may also want things to be more interesting in the world and perhaps you want to make that world a bit more horrifying and for that we do have fall evil complete edition as what this will do is add in a plethora of terrifying creatures from the resident evil franchise into fallout 4. first we do have zombie dogs they look exactly how you would expect and actually spawn among regular mongrels in fallout 4. the zombie dogs are going to be both faster and actually deal more damage though they're going to lead the pack you'll see them sprinting out ahead and the cool part about this is there's actually variants of these you get a hyena variant that will actually be a bit more aggressive with their ai but if they take some losses or even just one takes damage they are more likely to cower away and flee and there's actually a third and very special variant that i'll just let you find in game for yourself failheads are those horrifying enemies you're probably just going to want to avoid in the early game they have an absolutely awesome eyeless design and two different variants to them but as you'll quickly notice in combat they have a very unique feature these guys will heal as you deal damage against them they will begin to automatically start regenerating health which means that you either have to deal a lot of damage very quickly or use something that will deal damage over time like a flamethrower set them ablaze and they will die much quicker they're quite fast and horrifying but they also do feel like a real fallout mutation but you could totally see the lore behind this being some fev virus mutation of some kind of creature even some different take on a human with the fev virus as opposed to a super mutant hunters probably have the coolest design out of the bunch and i actually think are the most difficult to face in game they're going to be a human reptile hybrid which means they are actually built with a tough outer shell and will be very resistant to most damage types in game although laser weapons will serve as a huge and hard counter to them it really almost feels like they occupy the role of a bit of a tougher deathclaw not quite as fast as a deathclaw but definitely having more hp and really more resistances and once they get on you they can be really really deadly and last but not least we do have liquors which are mutant humans that will cause rapid death with high damage attacks that can both stagger you and lead you to having a bleed out one of the interesting things about this mod is although obviously it's not lore friendly even in the slightest i feel like the designs of a lot of these creatures actually fit quite well into fallout 4. between the fuv virus or weird mutations it doesn't really feel that out of place to have some of these creatures in this world and overall it'll serve to make those miscellaneous encounters as you're exploring the commonwealth far more interesting there really aren't that many creature mods out there and it's going to be one of the best options especially if you want things to be scarier but speaking of making things scarier we also do have the fall evil mega zombie pack this one's actually a bit simpler as what it'll do is both reskin and kind of re-characterize the feral ghouls in fallout 4 and basically turn them into more proper and true zombies and these zombies naturally are from the resident evil franchise that's where these skins are coming from this probably immediately just jumps up to being one of my favorite zombie mods for fallout 4. the skins here are incredibly well implemented and actually quite diverse there's a range of different scans whether it be more zombified where they really look like they are rotting corpses that are somehow attacking you they're almost more on the human side like okay they only just turned to zombies not that long ago but even further this mod has an optional file for editing the behavior so zombies will be a bit slower this being more of those traditional zombies you've seen in past media mostly movies we can offset this with mods that will make it so there are larger zombie hordes in the game and even so these zombies can grab you and hold you down so they're slow moving force but when they actually appear and if they get close to you they are a real and serious threat and i actually like this because it's a bit of a hybrid in that they're not that slow their attacking motions are a bit slower but the zombies overall can still get to you relatively quickly just like a pharaoh ghoul and i feel like it's actually a pretty nice hybrid between feral ghouls by default and zombie walkers that are just actually moving very slowly it fits really well with the fall evil complete pact as some of the areas will now just have an absolutely horrifying variety of enemies for you to face but more importantly i think they all come together to make the world of fallout 4 a bit more horrifying but i think maim really has to be at the cornerstone of that as it gives some of these enemies some power behind their hits a few hits may some limbs or even just cause a significant bleed and really give you a bad time if you're not careful but then two other mods that i think will up the survival and immersion factor with this list overall are running breathing and player speed revised running breathing is very simple in that what it's going to do is add breathing noises at various paces when you are walking running and sneaking in fallout 4. it's a very basic mod only adding in a relatively small feature but it does make the game overall feel a bit more survival oriented conversely player speed revised will change how fast your character moves in various circumstances with the holstered weapon when you don't have any weapon out you'll actually run slightly faster when you do have a weapon drawn though you will be moving slightly slower because you're naturally holding a weapon and in particular when aiming down sights and sneaking you're going to move notably slower than you would in vanilla fallout 4. for aiming down sights you're actually moving at quite a snail's piece but naturally you're holding up a weapon so that makes a lot of sense there are a couple of minor changes but i do feel like this fit with the overall list and actually the goal of making fallout 4 feel more survival oriented and immersive but then last but not least we do have skk combat stalkers which is actually a bit of an older mod that is just now returning to nexus this is a perfect one to pair with meme if you truly want to up the difficulty in fallout 4 kind of at all times this will make it so there's two new encounter types for enemies in fallout 4. they'll have patrols patrolling around if they see you they'll likely attack you and kind of follow you a bit but then also what is a bit more horrifying are stalkers which are groups of enemies that will more or less just be hunting you they're trying to track you down the way this is implemented is actually pretty cool though it's not just going to be a bunch of enemies that spawn around you like some other mods do but rather they'll be stalkers that spawn in your general vicinity and they'll start looking for you but they may not actually find you and in fact you may accidentally avoid them if you just stay on the move depending on how you're playing at a given time but if they do find you they of course will come after you and you might just be exploring and suddenly find several raiders or ghouls or something else entirely coming after you and you can fully configure how this all works i have notifications on so the stalker spawns do pop up as alerts on my screen not just for video purposes and ideally you'll have that turned off so it is a surprise and the groups can be quite large i have it on random so you can get as low as two stalkers or up to groups of eight stalkers attacking you at once and this is another one that really gets a lot more fun with meme because these enemies flanking you could deal a ton of damage they can take you out in just a few shots and it makes it so you have this looming paranoia in fallout 4. you might have a bunch of raiders or even ghouls that are actually following you they picked up your center to trying to figure out where you are but i think these two mods in particular have a nice synergy to them that really upped the stress factor or the tension at certain points while playing this game which for me makes things a lot more fun overall though i think there's a variety of mods that could up the survival factor perhaps in a bit of a different way barely focusing on building up a camp cooking food or fighting against the conditions but really around combat and combat encounters with that said though hopefully you guys found this one informative hopefully you'll download some of these mods if you like them but that i thank you all again for watching and i hope to see you all next time later oh
