If you have no skills, no achievements, nothing to write in your resume, even then this video will help you. When we apply for our first internship or job, we have this genuine question, that if there's nothing in our resume and we can't submit an empty resume, how do we make a CV without any skills/achievements to get that first offer? Today, I'll reveal that when I went to pursue my MBA from IIM Ahmedabad I saw many students with no points on their resumes. Yet, when they submitted their resumes, their CVs were filled up. How? There are many such points you can add in your resume but you're unaware of or even if you know, you're adding them the wrong way because of which your resume seems empty. All the points I share today don't need even a day or two to be added, you can add them this very moment. So, let's start with the first point which is a profile summary. Profile summary appears in your CV under your name in 2-3 lines. This summary tells your key highlights to a recruiter if he/she doesn't wish to go through your entire resume. It contains 3 things - 1. Your Qualification 2. Your Qualities 3. Opportunities You're Seeking To make your resume look filled up, it is recommended to add a profile summary. I'm sharing some sample profile summaries on the screen. You can use it to make your own profile summary for any field, you wish to apply to. The second point is that of education. You must be wondering isn't education an obvious point? Why highlight it separately? The way you mention education in your resume will determine the space this section occupies. One way to mention education in your resume is this, This is how I showed it in my resume. But, on the other hand, if you wish to show a filled-up resume, you'll show education this way in your resume. You'll notice that the education headline font size is larger and multiple lines have been used to cover space. The third point is that of academic courses. You must have studied so many courses in school/college. You can mention them as it is in your resume irrespective of how much you scored in those courses. If your marks weren't good, you can present them like this. Else, you can emphasize them this way. Make sure to not add too many courses, 4-5 courses are more than sufficient. The next thing you can add is test scores. While in school, you may have appeared for tests and their marks might be available. For example, NTSE, JEE exam, or while in college if you wrote the CAT exam or GMAT exam, if you've taken any such tests, you can add their scores to your resume. Even if you couldn't score well on these tests, you can still mention your participation, like in an olympiad. You can mention it by framing this sentence. The next point is quite important, it is called skillset. Before sharing about skillset, let me request you Do like the video if you've found it useful till now, so that all those students who are unable to make their resumes can access this information. Let us start with skillset now. There are two major bifurcations in skillset, One are your hard skills and the other are your soft skills. Hard skills are the technical skills that help you do well in your job. For example, MS Excel, PowerPoint, Data Analytics, these are all hard skills. Soft skills refer to the softer aspect of your personality that help you do well. For example, communication, creativity or teamwork. For your reference, I am sharing a list on the screen of all the different hard and soft skills that you can mention in your resume. There are 2 ways to present it in your resume. The first option is to use a table. This uses a lot of space but has less impact. The second option is to mention them in bullet points. But, in that case, you need to give examples on how and where you acquired a particular skill. To illustrate this point, let me give you an example of MS Excel. If I've learned excel, but I don't have any proof, then, I'll simply show it using the tabular format. But, if I've done a free/paid course on excel, then, I'll mention it this way that I have completed the course on so-and-so date, from so-and-so platform that's why I have this skill. This way you can mention all your skills in the resume. This occupies a lot of space as well. The next point is that of languages. Whichever place you belong, add its native language, for example, I'm from Punjab and I know Punjabi, Hindi, English and if you also know any foreign language, then you can mention it in your resume and also add a bar of proficiency. Through this bar, you can show how comfortable you feel in that particular language. For example, if I have to rate myself in English I'd rate my proficiency this way. Another important section is that of Hobbies & Interests. Most people mention hobbies and interests as 2-3 bullet points but if you wish to present them well, you give some examples that showcase the extent to which you pursue these hobbies. For example, if you like fitness, you can mention the number of months you've been pursuing it or if you like to write, you can mention platforms like Quora, Medium or LinkedIn. After doing my MBA, I understood that presentation really matters. You can present the same point better in hobbies and interests. The final section of the resume is references. References mean that if a recruiter has to verify any information about you who can he/she reach out to? They can be your professors/seniors/bosses You add their designation and contact details here so that a recruiter can reach out to them. These points will help you get your first opportunity but if you wish to grow in your career, then you need to have more things in your CV like internships, courses, for that I'll link a video here you must watch you can add any doubts to comments on Tue/Thu/Sat 7pm when new videos are published Happy to help you with any questions that you may have Thank you so much for watching this video, hope it helps you.
