Intro to Proloquo2Go

Overview

  • Presenter: Rebecca Hoffman from the Assistive Technology Center, Little Tennessee Valley Educational Cooperative.
  • Proloquo2Go: An AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) app for iOS (Apple devices).
    • Over 25,000 built-in buttons
    • More than 100 text-to-speech natural-sounding voices
    • Used by individuals with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, etc.
    • Goes on sale 50% off twice a year (April and October)

Objectives of the Presentation

  1. Introduction to the basics.
  2. Learn how to create a user.
  3. Orientation to the screen.
  4. Add, move, customize buttons.
  5. Create an activity folder.
  6. Discuss new features in Proloquo2Go.

Setting Up a User

  • First Time Setup: Startup wizard appears; otherwise, add a user manually.
  • Voice Selection: Test and choose preferred voice, possibly multiple voices.
  • Vocabulary: Use 'Crescendo' (core-based) or optional 'Gateway'.
  • Vocabulary Levels: Start with 'Intermediate Core' for language growth.
  • Grid Size: Adjust based on user's ability to see/access buttons easily.

Core Vocabulary

  • Core Words: Make up about 80% of communication, stay consistent for motor memory and faster communication.
  • Fringe Vocabulary: Activity-specific words.

Screen Layout

  • Message Bar: For constructing messages to be spoken.
  • Top Menu: Displays current page and navigation.
  • Home Button: Quickly return to the home page.
  • Messages & Tools: Options to send, save, and manage messages.

Tools and Options

  • Tool Pop-up: Provides options like copy, clear, add, search, typing, recents.
  • Volume and Explore Options: Adjust volume and explore vocabulary.
  • Edit and Options Buttons: Customize buttons and folder settings.

Options Menu

  1. Help: Access video tutorials and guides.
  2. User Management: Switch between different user profiles.
  3. Appearance: Customize message window, toolbars, button, and symbol appearances.
  4. Vocabulary & Progressive Language: Adjust vocabulary levels and use progressive steps for language learning.
  5. Speech and Language: Change voice, speech rate, and pitch.
  6. Grammar Support: Enables grammar pop-ups for verb conjugations.
  7. Access Methods: Configure touch, switch access, and interaction settings.
  8. Services and Backup: Set up backup methods for saving data.

Editing and Customizing

  • Edit Mode: Allows moving, creating, and deleting buttons/folders.
  • Templates and Folders: Utilize templates to maintain core vocabulary consistency.
  • Creating Buttons/Folders: Add, link, and customize new folders and buttons.

New Features

  • Split Screen: Use multiple apps simultaneously, useful for teletherapy or distance learning.
