Introduction

  • Context: Study of the Book of Revelation, focusing on chapters 8 and 9.

Overview of Revelation

  • Timeline:
    • Current focus: Seven-year tribulation period (future event).
    • Preceded by the rapture of the church.
  • Purpose of Tribulation:
    1. Wake up unbelievers: Opportunity for salvation.
    2. Shake up Israel: Opening eyes to Jesus as the Messiah.
    3. Make up the Kingdom of God: Creation of new heaven and earth.
  • Judgments:
    • Seals: Jesus opens a scroll, unleashing seven seals.
    • Trumpets: Seven angels each blow a trumpet, announcing further judgments.
    • Bowls: Further judgments poured out by angels.

Revelation Chapter 8

  • Seventh Seal and Silence:

    • Silence in Heaven: 30 minutes of silence after the seventh seal opens (transition to seven trumpets).
  • Seven Trumpets:

    1. First Trumpet:
      • Effects: Hail, fire mingled with blood, 1/3 of trees and all green grass burned.
      • Impact: Ecological disaster, affecting livestock and environment.
    2. Second Trumpet:
      • Effects: Great mountain burning with fire into sea, 1/3 of sea turns to blood.
      • Impact: Death of sea life, destruction of ships, reduced oxygen levels.
    3. Third Trumpet:
      • Effects: Great star (Wormwood) falls, 1/3 of freshwater becomes bitter.
      • Impact: Water contamination, many die.
      • Historical Note: Chernobyl means Wormwood in Ukrainian.
    4. Fourth Trumpet:
      • Effects: 1/3 of sun, moon, and stars darkened.
      • Impact: Disruption in day-night cycle, colder earth, reduced light.

Revelation Chapter 9 (Preview)

  • Fifth Trumpet (Chapter 9):
    • Effects: Demonic torment for 5 months, people unable to die.
  • Sixth Trumpet (Chapter 9):
    • Effects: Release of four bound angels, 1/3 of mankind killed (estimated 1 billion people).

Conclusion

  • Purpose: To prepare believers and emphasize the urgency of spreading their faith.
  • Call to Action: Encourage readiness and evangelism.
