Grumello Cremonese's Palazzetto Farm

Good morning, we are in Grumello Cremonese, on the Palazzetto farm, a company that has always produced milk. Over the years, growing with the numbers, today we have 400 dairy cows in production, for a total of about 900 animals, including breeding. We have been part of the Granarolo controlled supply chain for almost two years. Since 2009, we have also started to produce biogas and, through biogas, renewable energy, electricity, for a megawatt of power generated using the slurry from the old stable. Then, over the years, we have continued our investments in the renewable energy sector with a biomethane plant, which came into production in December 2022, for a production capacity of 630 Scm of biomethane, which also uses slurry, which has increased over the years because there is a new stable since 2019, and therefore, in addition to slurry, all agricultural products and biomass deriving from the farm’s crops. The company has 80% double cultivation, so it can take advantage of all the farm products, the waste water and some by-products of the agri-food industry. The plant is a membrane upgrading plant, which we believe is the simplest one, and we have integrated a derivation of the methane pipeline through Snam, so the biomethane produced is directly fed into the Snam network. With regard to the company's energy consumption, after the first plant in 2009, we installed the photovoltaic panels above the old stable for 100 kW and we are completing a second investment in the roof of the new stable that generate 350 kW of photovoltaics, which are then supplemented by a cogeneration unit for hours when photovoltaic production is not sufficient for self-consumption, both of the company’s stables and the biomethane production plant. The company not only deals with biomethane, but also seeks to maximise its resources with water savings through fixed pivot irrigation systems with dripping wings. Also, for the distribution of digestates, we have created a fixed plant to immediately introduce the digestate produced by the plants into the fields, making us completely self-sufficient. We do not purchase chemical fertilisers. This is an example of how a company can also become an example of a circular economy, because everything produced by the fields passes through the stable, biomethane plants and, through the digestate, returns to the fields. In this way, we contribute to the sustainability of all the milk production in the Granarolo chain, trying to maximise, as we have said, all the resources provided by our environment.
