hi everyone it's lachlan here from the kookaburra bat cave and in today's video we'll be showing you how to use a grip cone to apply a new batting grip to your cricket bat so a bat cone will cost you approximately 15 and they're available through all good qriket specialists and obviously online on our website kookaburrasport.com and these have been used for quite a long time once you buy one you'll probably never have to buy one again and their sole purpose is for fitting a new back grip onto your qriket bat so the first part of the process is obviously removing the existing back grip so to do that make sure you remove the tape from the bottom that's holding the grip on and we just want to roll it up from the base towards the end of the handle now that we've removed the old grip it's time to fit the new one kookaburra offer a wide range of colours and styles of back grip they can be found online through our website or again at the kookaburra retailer nearest to you so once you've removed the grip from the packaging some grips will have a orientation so this is a max grip here and the max grip has an octopus type pattern at the top hand and a player's type pattern at the bottom hand so we actually want the player's section of the grip to be at the bottom hand of the handle now to do that you just want to put it on in the reverse so if i want this to end up at the bottom i put it at the top when i'm loading it up onto the grip cone so we load it up like so and then we just want to do similar to when we remove the grip off the bat you just want to roll it up on the cone until it comes off the end then we kind of have a half rolled up grip and then the next part of the process is to just flip it over onto the cone and roll it down so you want to get it down about three quarters of the way down the back cone ready to then roll it over onto the bat handle so you just want to grab the bat like so put it in between your legs and then load the cone on top of the handle from there it's just a matter of rolling the grip down until it drops off the end of the cone and onto the bat handle [Music] once it drops off the end of the cone you can then remove the cone and continue rolling the grip down the bat handle [Music] when you roll the back grip down to the end of the binding it won't always line up perfectly in this scenario you can see here we've got a little bit of the excess grip that's doubled back on itself to remove this you just want to roll the rest of the grip down and over that excess and continue to roll it down towards the shoulder of the bat a few times which will just help us slide back up towards the top of the handle a little bit [Music] as you can see there we've slid it up about half an inch which will mean we'll be able to fold over that excess and it should finish perfectly just over the end of the binding and then roll the remainder of the grip up towards the top of the handle and any excess over the end of the handle you can just hit down by whacking the end of it with your palm and then just folding the excess from the bottom down with your fingers and then you can stretch out any wrinkles just with your fingers now the grip is fitted some players may choose to apply some grip tape now this is just a thin layer of tape around the bottom of the grip and prevents the grip from sliding up the handle while using the back now that you have a new back grip fitted on your kookaburra bat it's time to head out in the middle and score plenty more runs i hope this how-to video has been helpful if you'd like to check out more of them head to our youtube channel thanks for watching guys you
