Understanding Body Regions and Terminology

Alright, the regions of the body, the diagrams in the book are much better than I would be able to provide you. But basically what I need you to understand is that when you're giving me in the name of a part of the body in any of your tests or any quizzes, you need to know the scientific name of that region. And that might be part of a question or it might be that you need to give the answer. So you can look through them. Some of them are simpler than others. A lot of people have heard of, let's say, femoral as being the upper part of your leg, so your thigh, because you may hopefully know that that bone there is called the femur. The nice thing is if you know some of these body regions, then when you get to the muscles or the blood vessels or other parts of the body of the semester or the school year, if you know the name of the body region, often those parts of the body, are named for that region. So you will hear terms like patella and calcaneal and tarsal and palmar and brachial when you're talking about blood vessels or muscles or something else. So know those parts of the body now and understand that those terms that you're learning will be used all year and anyone who's taking A&P will probably be in some type of health where you will need those terms. So make flashcards, do quizlets, whatever it is you need to do but you need to drill those terms in to your body. to your mind as quickly and as efficiently as possible and remind yourself often throughout the semester. If you have any questions you can ask me. Basically the diagrams are clear and it's easier for you. I just wanted you to understand why it's important to know all of those parts of the body and that you need to know the scientific names for them.
