Setting Up a Word Document in MLA Format using Office 365

Accessing Word Online

  • Log into Office 365: Use your credentials to access your account.
  • Navigate to OneDrive: Click on the OneDrive tile to open it.
  • Select Destination Folder: Choose the folder where you want to save your document.
  • Create New Word Document: Select 'New' and then 'Word Document' to open Word Online.

File Naming

  • Change the name of your document as desired.

Inserting Page Numbers

  • Go to the Insert tab.
  • Select Page Numbers.
  • Choose the top right corner placement (MLA format requirement).
  • In the header, type your last name before the page number.
  • Add a space between your name and the number.
  • Change the font to Times New Roman, size 12.

Document Formatting

  • Ensure Double Spacing:
    • Go to the Home tab.
    • Under Paragraphs, click the arrow to open the dialog box.
    • Set spacing after paragraphs to 0.
    • Select Double Spacing for line spacing.
  • Set Alignment: Align text to the left.
  • Font Settings: Change font to Times New Roman, size 12.
  • Set Margins:
    • Navigate to Page Layout.
    • Ensure margins are set to 1 inch.

Creating the Heading

  • Type your First Name and Last Name.
  • Enter your Teacher’s Name.
  • Enter your Class Name and Section (if applicable).
  • Enter the Date in the format: Day Month Year.

Title and Paragraph Formatting

  • Enter the Title of your paper and center it.
  • Change text alignment back to left and indent the first line of each paragraph by using the Tab key.
