box okay to uh type your queries or if you want to uh unmute your speaker you can also do that okay or your microphone okay you are allowed to do that no risk okay okay next okay now uh for a start okay this year we are actually following the new spm kssn format that is aligned with c e f r okay okay what uh basically c e f r means c e f r means you are you will be assessed okay according to levels okay so that means there are levels for each part okay that range from a1 a2 ka1 is the low pro or the basic user okay and then followed by a2 b1 b2 c1n the highest level is c2 ok so c2 is actually a proficient user so the main focus of this writing test if you can see in the table okay the intended level in each task increases okay so if you look at the last column here the intended cefr levels we have for part one okay for the first uh question on short communicating message or email you are expected or you are intended to be in the level of a2 okay and for part two okay the level for cfr is b1 and as we move to the other uh task which is a standard writing task we are expected to see your performance in level of b2 okay so this level increases as you go from one part to the other parts okay okay now look at the first uh task in part one which is short communicating message okay so here the number of items is one means there is only one question for you to answer so what is your task okay the first task is uh for you to write a short response okay of about 80 words okay about 80 words to an informal message means you will be given an informal message and you will have to write an email okay to reply to that message okay that is in part one okay for part two okay you have um a guided writing okay which uh you have to write an essay and there is only one question too and for this task okay the requirement is you have to write a longer text okay just now was uh 80 words right for this part you have to answer approximately about 125 to 150 words okay based on a text stimulus so you will be given a text okay with some notes for you to uh write your essay okay so the level here is b1 and then for part three okay which is the extended writing task okay there are a few questions for you to choose from okay you have a choice of three questions and you choose one of either an article a review report or story and okay for this part you have to write approximately how many words okay slightly longer than part two which is 200 to 250 words okay so now basically you have some ideas of what you are required to write for your paper to write thing and you have three questions to write and how many minutes or altogether how many hours you are given to write all these three questions who knows how many hours of all the three questions how many hours is given to you anybody knows how many hours you are required to answer part to a paper to write thing okay no problem okay don't worry i'm just want to ask you in case you have i mean you know how many hours okay you are only given one hour and 30 minutes okay one hour and 30 minutes to answer three questions okay so you really have to plan okay um how many minutes for each part okay so i will tell you later okay in detail how you can plan for each part how many minutes you should spend to write in each part okay okay why do we have uh the level of a2 b1 and b2 here the reason being is because we want to make sure you want to give the fairness to all students so that those who may not be able to write a slightly longer essay in part three they can still perform in part one so that is the idea here so we want to give the fairness to all students so that you can show what you can do okay in in each part so maybe a good student they can do all three parts then it's okay and for maybe four weeks today they may be able to score part one or part two okay or even in part three they can still scope in one of the elements that we will discuss in details later okay so do not worry i'm sure if you follow all the format all the techniques or the requirements for writing for this paper you can score in this paper for this uh new format okay because this year the marking is not on holistic marking if we are actually marking this on analytical marking or more on technical markings okay okay write an email for this part yes it is a short communicating message so you are required you are required to write an email to a friend or maybe to any of your family members but this is like an informal email okay okay now let's move on to the next slide okay as i mentioned earlier this is an obligatory question means you have to answer this question okay okay so uh it carries okay 20 marks okay so actually all the three parts they carry the same marks okay which is 20 so your task is to write a short response in about 80 words k2 and informal message so uh if you write more than 80 yes you are allowed to but not too many i mean not until more than 100 we can allow you to write up 200 words okay why the reason because we do not want you to spend a lot of time here because you have two other parts to concentrate on that's the reason it's not that we want to stop your ability to write okay no because we want you to do other parts as well you have time to do the other parts okay so that is the reason okay we don't want you to show your i mean ability here too much we still want you to spend that on the other two parts okay okay that is uh uh okay on the first part okay now we are going to go to the question okay if you have the question with you okay the practice question that i give to your teacher to be given to you please um take it out now okay let's look at the question we are going to analyze the question okay so this is very important because uh if you have the question okay later during your exam and you know what you have to do so it is good that you know how what to write okay it's not that what you know okay you have to write this on the requirement of the task you write what is required not what you know okay so this is all about this new format okay although you may be able to write very good uh essays but if you don't answer the requirement or you don't follow the requirement then your marks will not be given accordingly okay so please bear that in your mind okay so look at the first part okay part one you must answer highlight these two and uh write there as scenarios okay so you know i uh now is the school holidays and you receive an email from your new friend that just moved to your hometown and now you and your classmate are going for a picnic during school holiday okay so that are the scenarios now okay so you really need to know the situation in the scenario okay and then okay now let's look at the one that i highlighted in yellow where shall we go and what can we do there and what should we bring so what are all these so they are in the form of question can you see or not so they ask you where okay what and another what so they are these are the wh question so these are actually your tasks these are actually what you have to uh respond to okay the main ideas that you have to write that you have to provide in your email okay so please highlight that and uh write there as tasks okay okay and then we have uh so your task here is to answer all the question here okay where shall we go so you have to answer so where shall we go then you have to provide the name of a place that you're going for a picnic with your classmate and then what can we do there so in a way you have to give the activities that you're going to do at the picnic place and what should we bring that mean what are the things that you normally bring when you go for a picnic so these are the things that you need to be make sure that you write in your email if not then your uh contents or the requirement of the element will not be fulfilled okay okay and then the other question i'll be waiting for your reply by so this is the two important thing that you have to take note whenever you get the question please highlight these two scenarios and tasks okay okay so for okay student do you have any question to us okay about the question at this juncture okay okay now i'm going to go to the planning thing so after this please listen very carefully look at the planning how you can plan for your email so that you can get full marks okay for your part one because this part is very easy for you to score okay okay now let's go to the next one which is on the planning okay this is very important okay okay so it is very good for you to plan on what to write okay you are not going to do this of course you're not going to do this during the exam because you don't have time to do to draw all this table what i want you to know and to take note is whenever you have this type of question you know what you need to do so you know what you need to write okay and in the order okay okay in the correct order and the correct steps okay so here i will explain the steps in writing an email to a friend okay i give my first uh plan or my first technique for this part one is an acronym of gimmies okay if you can see on the top left there is a word gimme set so what does gimme stand for okay so here we will look at okay all the planning for this part one using the technique of gimmicks okay okay here g the first g the capital g here stand for greeting okay so you can see the first step is you have to write the greeting when you want to write an email so normally for dating what is the content what are the content what the sample uh sentence for a context for a good thing okay for example you can just say hi or hello so this is the content for the first for the meeting okay hi oh hello oh how are you okay so there are other examples other samples of greeting which you can find in your textbook i believe okay so remember you are writing an email to a friend so this is an informal informal great thing so that's why we write either hello hello okay now let's move on to step number two okay in step two we are going to introduce we are going to do the introduction so that is where the letter i comes from i here stands for what is in the screen okay okay you are seeing the the table right okay the gimmies okay so just now i was talking about i was explaining about the first step which is greeting okay greeting you can say hi or hello so make sure it is an informal good thing and then number two step number two introduction okay introduction is uh where we uh can write how are you or how are things okay or how is it how is it going oh it is good to hear from you so these are some of the samples introduction that you can use when you want to write your introduction okay for this email and make sure these are all in friendly openings okay all the introduction dating must be friendly okay must be informal so because you are writing to a friend so john here plays an important role as well okay we want to make sure that your tone is according to the tone that uh for the for email writing okay so these are some of the friendly openings or useful places that you can use for your introduction okay now we are at step three everyone look at step three okay what do we do in step three okay in step three we will uh basically explain on the main ideas so what are the main ideas what where do we get the main ideas remember just now the in the question i asked you oh i highlight in yellow i highlighted in yellow so those are the main ideas okay the three question remember the three question where shall we go what can we do there or what should we bring so those three are the main ideas the three question from the class are actually the main ideas so that is where the letter m i comes from okay so m i here stand for main ideas okay okay remember that okay after the main ideas okay let's say all the three questions so you must make sure that you use consistent friendly tune look at the remarks everyone look at the remarks on the third column here use consistent friendly tone and informal register means your sentence when you want to start your center make sure it is all in informal uh great informal phrases okay so make sure all the tone is for your friend okay and also don't forget to use connectors okay and cohesive devices okay so we will look into this in detail okay what are the connectors and what are the quality devices okay and then now let's look at step number four okay step number four is actually e okay the letter e e stands for ending okay so remember e here stand for ending what do we write for nb okay you can write okay you are what you want you are about to end your email right so what do you write okay right can use to write your ending okay okay so these are some examples and make sure you use the friendly ending so do you notice that everything here must be friendly okay informal friendly okay and then um make sure the tone is right for this format okay okay now and the last step uh last step is the letter s what does the letter s stand for okay here s stands for signature okay not to say you have to sign or you have to scribble your signature as if examiners cannot read your name so my recommendation is just write your name okay you can just write your name okay either i'm arena or whatever it is just write your name and do not make sure your name can be read or readable by the examiners okay so just my suggestion just write your name that's it okay so that would be your signature okay okay so that is where the word gimmies come from okay what arguments can somebody uh tell me what our game is uh in these steps okay in the planning for email anyone want to share what do you understand by gimmies anybody wants to share what this game is okay it's all there you just have to say it loud okay or you just can type in the chat box okay so what does g stand for maybe i can just think okay very good okay uh let i i introduce you okay good am i mean but you must know when you say mean ideas where you want to get that one from okay you must know okay and then e what does e stand for here okay and then what does the letter s stand for the last letter okay so it sounds interesting and it excites you okay okay so that's why i come up with this technique gimmies for writing email in part one okay okay any question everyone or do you have anything you want to ask based on this uh table okay i think it is clear right okay okay with uh now let's continue with the next slide okay okay now okay this is okay i hope uh is this the slight change uh everyone okay what do you all see now no again same thing is it do you all see part one marking assessment yes yes okay part one right marketing assessment right okay okay so this is the market assessment that means when you um when the examiners mark your paper these are the elements that you're looking into okay so you mean i mean sometime when you um i mean you submit your essays then you can see at the bottom of the essay your teacher will write c-c-a-o-l so you may not know what are those so these are actually the marketing assessment for part one so actually they are the same for every part but the weightage is different okay the expectation is different for every part okay for part one okay the marquee assessment we have first is content okay content or then we you can get five months full month is five and ca or communicative achievement okay also five marks so i will explain in detail of each element after this okay organization also five language also five so we have the total marks of 20 for this part so for part one it is not difficult for you okay to get 20 marks okay if you follow all the requirements okay so uh i think after you as uh listen to my explanation on my tips on so on strategies you will be able to uh have the confidence to score this paper okay or this part on writing an email okay now let's move on to the other slide okay i hope you are seeing the same slide okay what do you all see now is it tips from scoring good marks that you all see that no no okay so oh yeah i think you're seeing it now right okay it takes time to get to you okay now these are the tips for scoring good marks uh for this part alone okay so please listen very carefully okay so we are going to look at each element okay for content okay for content uh the examiners they will look into the fulfillment of task requirements so what is fulfillment of that requirement so here content remember just now it is five months right so full fulfillment here means you have to make sure you follow the format okay which is to write an email to a friend okay and you use the uh you and you answer all the questions okay remember the three question the main ideas is now so if you have that in your email you write an email and you answer all the three questions then okay the file mark is in your hand okay for your content okay so it is not difficult to get five months for content okay but in the bottom i mean the i mean the the important thing is you have to answer you have to write your response if you don't write how are we going to assess okay so the important thing is to write okay all the responses all the answers you might you have to answer all the questions okay either part one part two or part two you have to answer because you can simply get five months for your content even if you cannot write very good in part three okay so please right my suggestion is you have to write all the question okay okay now we go to number two communicative achievement okay this one is where we want to see how you communicate your ideas okay so that it follows the format of an email writing to a friend okay so here we are looking at the format whether you follow the format okay let's say you write hi and then you don't write a deal or you don't write uh uh that means you follow the format of an email writing so you have that in your response so you have the correct format then you can uh when the the marks for this quality achievement can be considered to get full marks okay and then register register mean the the set phrase get the set phrase menu how do you start your sentence how do you um uh construct your sentence so that it sounds like an informal okay it sounds like very friendly tone friendly sentences in a way and then the tone okay as i mentioned just now tone you must make sure you use all the friendly tone okay all the friendly registers all the informal greetings okay so it plays very important part here okay the tune and okay here i'll give some example for example here when you suggest a place okay let's see now you are like you want to write an email to your friend so you cannot suggest a place your your tone of the center must be uh suggesting a place to a friend not suggesting a place to to a teacher or to the headmaster or to the principal so the tune of suggesting a place must also be in a friendly tone okay and then activities to do so when you want to describe the activities that you want to do for a picnic okay for you to mean to to do i mean to do the activities with your friend with your classmate at the piney you must also describe the activities in a friendly manner okay the tune here so whatever it is please remember this is a this is an email okay and also the things to bring so you must elaborate or you must explain all the uh main ideas here in a friendly tool okay so that will be in the combinative achievement if you see that in your essay whether i mean if you can uh express your ideas or if if you can explain your main ideas here in a friendly tool then your chance of getting five months is in your hand for ca or communicative achievement for this part okay for organization okay for organization we will be looking into your uh usage of uh linkers the linkers is like uh the words like and on but so firstly secondly next then all these are called as linkers and also cohesive devices okay so what is the difference between linkers and closing devices okay linkers there are actually short um um short sentence connectors okay like the word uh firstly okay because and oh but so okay so these are normally the normal linkers that we use in our essays and cohesive devices is actually a more sophisticated linkers that we want you to have one or two here okay okay so what i'll give the example here okay so you have linkers so uh they are actually high frequency vocabulary such as and but and basic and phrasal item like because first of all finally so all these are the basic linkers that you will definitely find a lot in your email okay so let me in in an uh email you have you will use all this a lot and but because so we do not i mean we yes you can have that in your image but we also want to see okay the cohesive devices here so for what are those so they are like the word moreover okay in addition okay furthermore so all this we also want you to write or to to to use in your email so other examples like it may appear as a result other than that so please use one or two okay not many but please use that in your email okay and for organization we also look into your punctuation okay the use of full stop the use of colon or this the use of exclamation marks okay so all this will be accessed in the organization will be evaluated in the organization okay now the last one is language okay language yes if you think that you may not be able to to to give the perfect okay i mean your grammar is not that good so you can work out on the other elements which are content ca and organization so please try to work out on these three because maybe some of maybe you are not confident with your language okay but it's not to say that you cannot get five for language you can okay you can okay because for this part uh we do not expect you to to like write um a very sophisticated essay or very um well written essay okay so we don't really see that because remember the level here is only a2 okay a2 basic okay so if for basic level if you can just i mean provide i mean write your email and we can understand a message okay and only a sleep or maybe just one or two errors but meaning is still there you can get four or five for your language okay you can i mean you can you will be able to get fine marks or formats for your language so for language we'll be looking into your vocabulary the use of the words okay so vocabulary i mean when you want to explain about the um what to do or the activities so make sure the activities is suitable okay suitable for a picnic okay so that means the choice of work that you use here is appropriate okay and then for grammar okay grammar make sure we can understand your sentence your message okay it's not that glaring the errors are not so severe so in the meaning it still can be understood so we can still give you good marks okay and spelling of course spelling if you spread the word wrongly i mean uh maybe just one or two letters missing maybe just one letter missing maybe you you left should be double l but you only write one else so maybe we can consider that okay but if it's uh throughout the email i mean a lot of spelling errors then the meaning will be different so we may not be able to give you good marks for your language okay so these are the elements of um that are the elements of your part one that we'll be looking into binder that um will be considered okay to give marks for your part one okay by the examiners okay so we have content ca organization and language okay so you know when you want to write you make sure all these are present all these are used in your email so that you that is given to you okay just now in the question uh the situation or the scenario is you're going for a picnic right so you can just like maybe going for a picnic or let's go for a picnic so here i wrote that as let's go for a picnic okay and then okay remember we are going to follow gimmies okay so what is the first thing the first step that you have to do for game is g great thing what do you write for greeting hi or hello okay so hi betty oh hello betty okay so you write that as g so in your i say in your actual essay you don't have to write all this g-i okay this is just for you to remember the steps okay so when you do this practice when you see this so you can have that in your mind okay what i need to have when i want to write an email okay so that i will follow all the second one is i remember introduction so just now i give the sample introduction the sample phrases okay you can write how are things okay or how are you or how is it going so it's up to you which one you want to write given you want to use and then okay this one the green uh the green highlighter okay here the green is actually to show that it is an informal email because i use the contraction here short form okay okay because if you write an email normally we can use the short form or contraction to show that it is an informal okay so it's so i use it okay it is from the words it is so it's good to hear from you so this is the introduction enough just one sentence or just one line okay how are things it's good to hear from you so this shows that you have already mentioned your introduction okay okay now go on to the next line okay the second step okay now we are the third step sorry after g i and i now we want to start okay doing with our main ideas okay how do i start the main ideas okay first look at the first sentence here i know the right place for our picnic okay so you see now how i um start the phrase so how i like want to to keep the tone to a friendly tone here okay so i know the right place for our picnic so it shows that you are now like talking to your friend okay you are like conversing with your friends so in a friendly manner so that's why i decided to activity for main idea number two okay now this one the blue color highlighter is what this is the cohesive device furthermore okay uh this is a cohesive but furthermore we can indulge okay so maybe you want to like use one or two uh bombastic word or good vocab or less common use vocab here you can but not too many okay okay we can indulge in jet skiing this is another activity that you can do at the beach okay for a picnic so you can do that you can indulge in jet skiing or okay or here why i underline oh because this is the linkers the normal linkers so i underline okay the link is one of the linkers or watch the sunset okay this is another activity you can either uh induct in jet ski or if you are not that extreme type of person you can just watch some the sunset okay this is also another activity okay just like we always do still not i wrote that just like we always do so this is also another part where you include the friendly tone here just like we always do i mean this is what the i think that you always do with your friends okay so we want to you know like to to to show that we uh um we are giving we are constructing sentences that showing the friendly tone okay we are using the french tune here so that is already mentioned i mean already explain our main ideas number two okay what are the activities okay okay now we are going to explain or we are going to uh write on the other the next main idea which is on what are the things that we can bring okay okay now let's see okay now i start my sentence with the word more sorry uh it's okay another is so this is also the contraction okay to show that it is an email so it's better to bring along extra clothes okay so i already mentioned one of the things to bring extra clothes and so i underline n because this is normal linkers okay normal linkers and a mat okay as well in case we need those okay so you explain the thing that you can bring is extra clothes or a mat okay then next line okay moreover this is this email is written in a friendly tune okay using all the informal informal phrases and so on okay so at the end of that sentence i wrote that as m i three main that is the main idea number three that means we have already mentioned what are the things that we need to bring for the picnic so make sure the things and the activities that you explain and you give here make sure it relates to going for a picnic so that is also very important okay to see that your communicative achievement is uh following the uh the format of writing an email to a friend okay okay and then now after mi like the normal word like beautiful and so you try to use something that you call you less that people commonly uh use very less okay that they use very less so try to include okay one or two or a few words here in your essay okay so if you see that okay in your essay and you use it appropriately means when you have the word make sure the word is appropriate uh in that sentence maybe you want to explain about um maybe you want to explain about the thing that you want to buy for example you want to explain about you want to buy a laptop and you said that laptop is very beautiful maybe it's not appropriate to be used for laptop they were beautiful maybe okay so i just give an example uh that is what is meant by appropriate okay so you have to make sure that although you have the words but it's not appropriate it is also not uh going to be uh i mean we're not going to look back as one of the language that we will award you with good marks okay okay so make sure it is appropriate and use some less common words okay and we also have we also need we also look into your simple and some complex structures okay just now if you can recall did you not mention this in part one remember not in part one only vocabulary grammar and spelling okay but this one that's why i told you although it is five marks for language but here the expectation is different the vertices is different okay we want to see that you be able to write some simple complex or compound sentences okay complex structures that mean you have in center you have maybe two or more main ideas in a sentence okay so that is where we will look into for this language in part two okay and for errors okay just now in part one they'll talk about spelling okay this one then not always on spelling of course you have to make okay so errors if you have errors make sure it do not impede meaning that means meaning can still be determined okay so it is very important in your essay for part two if you have errors make sure um very small errors very simple errors again not that severe okay so that we can still understand what you're trying to say and the errors do not change the meaning of that sentence if you have that so your chance of getting five five or four for this element is there okay so it's not that you cannot get five but you can get five but you make sure that you follow all the requirements for this uh paragraph you want to introduce the topic of money and the importance of money okay so please remember that do not you do not um learn everything in the first you must give your introduction first okay so that people will continue to read your essay so the examiners will see that okay i need to go on further to see how the candidates are going to express the ideas okay so that is your t your
