hi guys Luke here from Alex consulting back with another video in order to get where I am today I had to undergo as well as other courses an ISO 9001 lead audit of course what I want to do today for those of you who might be considering going on that course is give you a brief overview of the structure the cost the duration of the course just so that you have got a running head started so as mentioned before this is about the ISO 9001 lead or its of course a question I get asked a lot is how do I become an auditor or I like the sound of a job you do how do I go about doing that now one vital part of becoming a lead auditor so that you could do supplier or third party audits or even managing internal auditing is that you need to have or it's best practice to have undertaken and be certified as an ISO 9001 lead auditor now this is specifically for quality and it goes without saying that if you want to be an environmental leader auditor you need the 14001 if you wanted to be a health and safety unit the 18 / 45 thousand one which is in the horizon so what I've done I've made a PowerPoint presentation to talk you through the kind of brief structure outline costs things that you'll be doing during the course just to settle your nerves of it and if you are looking to become a lead auditor and you're interested in the course give you kind of a head start so you know what to expect now course is obviously very dependent upon the training company that you go with but in general they should stay the same the structure should be the same so this please do watch this video will be valuable okay so as I previously mentioned this presentation is entitled what is the ISO 9001 lead orders of course and what I want to do during this presentation is kind of tell you what the course is about give you a bit of a head start hopefully create some value for you so let's jump straight in the auditing course is actually aimed at individuals who undertake either second party or third party audits so by second party remaining a supplier or vendor and by third party we could mean working for a certification body as a lead auditor so the auditing course really is aimed at them two PI's that's not to say it's better not better practice as being a lead auditor in an organization and having a team underneath you it may also work for that but it's a higher level than that internal course which will come across later first question are there any prerequisites to the course is there anything I need to do to be ready to enroll on the course and the answer to that really is that you need to have a basic or working knowledge of the ISO 9001 standard what I actually did before I went on the lead auditor course I went on the internal audit course now that was a - I think it was a two-day course and we'll cover that on another video and let me know in the comments below if you're interested in that and that basically gave you a basic knowledge told you some more than techniques how to have some auditing skills how to deal with people that type of thing so there were two what I would consider prerequisites of going on the lead auditor course next question how long does the course take that's a good question and it's something that you'll need to factor in if you need to get some time off work which may be paid or unpaid in order to conduct this this course so the course is actually a five day classroom talk course so there'll be a tutor with you for five days taking you through the process and it is a full on five days I've gone through the course myself and if you want any recommendations for training companies do drop a comment below and I'll be more than happy to give you them but it is a full on week and to be honest it isn't a pushover course it's quite difficult but if you stay with it you take it seriously and you do the work I wouldn't imagine you had any difficulties getting through it next question what is the general structure of the lead auditor course that's another good question so that if you're going on this course you need to know Luke what what does it involve going on this course what will I need to cover in order to become an ISO 9001 lead auditor so the main areas that this course will cover first of all it will cover audit skills so it may actually allow you to deal with people or people are getting aggressive or angry or you know it will teach you how to and give you the ability to maneuver around different situations which you may not have come across before which all present themselves if you're doing a live audit people are generally very receptive but sometimes you do come across areas or people where it's a bit more difficult and you've got to know how to do them situations the lead order of course will hopefully begin to prepare you for that it'll teach how to develop audit checklist so they'll develop in order checklist what is the procedure how am I going to ensure that I do my internal audit or lead order in this case and cover all the relevant areas so this example if you're working for a certification body and you lead all it in against ISO 9001 2015 how are you going to make sure that you cover all the relevant clauses and requirements of ISO 9001 2015 the way you're going to do that is you're going to develop or use a pre-existing audit checklist next thing developing written procedures it may ask you or may help you develop written procedures within your organization it may ask you to develop a purchasing procedure in my case ask me to decipher a procedure from that generate that audit checklist as we were speaking about before so it could eat do either of them I've just repeated auditing skills my apologies for that but that is very important so that's what I repeated it audit terminology so terminology uses an audit when they use the terms nonconformity correction or corrective action we may use observation or opportunity for improvement all these different pieces of terminology is your understanding they've well great that's a piece of terminology what does it actually mean to me and how do I use it and what do I do in order to use that term all that process so explain from start to finish an opening meeting you may have a discussion with the client you may then conduct the audit you may have a closeout or follow-up meeting so it's explaining that audit process to you II as part of an audit team next thing is alive audit so it's part of my course I actually went on a live audit and as part of a team of around 10 people and we all split up and looked at different procedures with different oddities and it was a very good experience for me I'd never experienced that before I'd only done some small level internal audits this actually was a big live audit and it really made you focus and understand the process around for a formal opening and close out meeting we raised our issues to the personnel explained what they need to do to cover them or follow them up and yeah it was it was really value-adding experience and I thoroughly enjoyed that and the final thing is there is an exam but it is an open book written exam I think it was a couple of hours long but it's not too hard as and you'll be prepared for it I was myself I was prepared to it we the mock questions after every day of the course we were graded on them so by the time we came to a live written exam we had the techniques we kind of knew what sort of questions would be asked and we knew how to answer them in order to gain the top marks on that and ensure we passed the course let me go back on there the next question how much does the course actually cost good question if you're considering going on the course that will be an important part of that and the answer to that really is it depends upon the training company that undertakes the course and I know that goes without saying and I don't mean to be funny here but that is really the case costs can vary from between a thousand pound and two thousand pound for the five-day course if they are my course was certified by the CQI or chartered quality Institute and also Ayoka so that's the Institute of registered certified auditors so it depends on the course you're going on have a look around make sure it's certified by a body so that when you do finish that course you can roll on a membership and roll on the CPD scheme to show that you're a qualified lead auditor and finally thank you for watching I always say if I appreciate your support LH consulting we try and make
