let's get one thing clear I did not go to Amsterdam to go see the FL in Our Stars bench I didn't go to Amsterdam to go to the red light district I didn't go to Amsterdam to go smoke weed legally I didn't go to Amsterdam to go do mushrooms in the anrank house it did sound like a good idea at the time though and I definitely did not go to Amsterdam for the culture all right I went to Amsterdam so I could visit the set of the Boom Clap music video thank you so much to B for sponsoring today's video one of the things that I am most grateful for from my family is teaching me polish when I was a child growing up knowing two languages has benefited me so much in life I am not going to lie though me moving away from home and not speaking polish constantly with my family has made me lose a little bit of my polar skills however me being able to have Babble right on my phone and being able to learn wherever I am in order so that I speak a little bit more fluently around my family so that my grandma can stop making fun of me is definitely a big plus and that's why Babel is one of the top language learning apps in the world so here we are we're about to start Lesson 12 of polish on Babel so we're learning the word for juice sock yes yes yes them prto yeah blisco blisco and thanks to babble now I can say cotlet sa to my mom which means pork chop cotlet SA yeah that's what I thought so bab and I are able to give you guys 60% off of your subscription the link will be on screen and also in the description and you guys should leave a comment down below what language you'd like to learn next and why thank you Babble love hey R girl summary yay unfortunately this album has taken over my entire Consciousness when I'm going to sleep all I hear is bu bu I cannot sit still like I am literally rubbing my feet together in bed at night like Little Cricket to bum that bum that bum I've been thinking living breathing drinking eating brat pretty much and the best part about this all is that I know that you have been too it is impossible to escape the brat Universe it's probably your favorite artist favorite album right now and I'm not saying that in like a chaperone trying to be cheeky kind of way like I genuinely mean it I met Ben plat the other week and I asked him what his favorite brat song was and he said 360 for anybody who wants to know you guys can put that like on his like Wiki not Wikipedia I'm not [ __ ] stupid well you guys can put that somewhere 360 has been Platt's favorite thank you some may say I'm behind on this I don't think so I was giving Charlie the time that she needed to roll everything out okay Charlie said okay bye on the brat wall I said okay I'm allowed to make this video now want I get started from the beginning of Charlie xcx's lore the impact she is now having on me as like an adult little girl maybe 25 and 2 months and most importantly talking about brat because it's very important and it's a lot deeper than you may think or maybe you know how deep it is because you're a [ __ ] smart human and an intellectual also if you're one of the people on twitter.com that said that I'm killing media literacy this video is not for you you know what maybe I am killing media literacy maybe I do get some of my information from reddit.com and what about it what are you going to do about it did you know that Charlie X's name isn't even Charlie it's Charlotte Charlotte Emma aeson can you imagine like her parents saying that to her Charlotte Emma aeson come here anyway so Charlotte Emma aters was born in Cambridge on the 2nd of August 1992 she's the only child of nurse and flight attendant Shamir and entrepreneur of the show Booker John aters so something that a lot of people did not know but a lot of people are finding out now is that her mom was born into a gutti Indian family in Uganda and her father is Scottish so she grew up in Essex but like from a very early age she was very interested in music her favorites growing up being Britney Spears Spice Girls and she started writing songs at the age of 14 we have similar upbringings like posting content on the internet at way tooo young of an age so she began posting her songs onto my face in 2008 which led her to be discovered by a promoter who invited her to perform at warehouse Raves very casual 16 years old getting invited to Warehouse Raves it's England I feel like crazier stuff happens and then in 2010 she signed a recording contract with sylm records releasing a series of singles and mixtapes throughout 2011 and 2012 when she was 16 she did this like badass interview where she has like fully decked out in her little costumes and stuff and she used to like wear this wig that looked like Maria Anette she did her makeup like really really fun and colorful and she did this interview where she was saying at the moment there's so much stuff going on underground everyone's throwing secret Raves everyone's getting up there and jumping around dressed up in bubbles and tinsel and I think that's wicked there's always oh I should probably do this in like a British accent right cuz every time I do that my British followers definitely don't get very offended when I do that there's always something different going on I don't know if I'm a part of the movement you only realize that once it's over nice and one of the coolest things that Charlie said as a 16-year-old which is so relevant to her life today is when she said I I want to prove to people that you don't have to become this big commercial pop writing machine to be successful you can just do whatever you want and it will be fine I'd like everyone to live a little and go a bit mental when they hear my music and just cover themselves in balloons and dance all around that would be brilliant and I think it's safe to say Charlie kind of lived up to that so in 2012 she Rose a prominence collaborating with Swedish Duo icon a pop on I love it not to be confused with I love it I love it I love it I love it but I don't care I love it you know it which became an international sucess you could literally not walk into an aop pastel without hearing that I remember I had friends who worked there and they said it was like legally binding that they played I love it on the speakers around like every 17 minutes or so I think that's what their contract said so in addition of solo Work Charlie has also co-written songs for other artist including a gaza's Beg For It celena Gomez's same old love Blondie's tonight and Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabo's collaboration on Sorita I will never forgive you for that Charlie XX maybe just maybe there is a very high chance that maybe you were not around for like the aeropostal craze I don't know why you're legally allowed to be on the internet but I know that somehow you are I've never heard of Charlie XTX I've never heard of her until brat like she's like literally an industry Planet you [ __ ] know boys unlock it vroom vroom Boom Clap yuck fancy Royals I'm just kidding but a little bit more on that later I think something that sticks out about Charlie is the evolution of her and her style the different sounds that she's tried the different looks that she's tried the different kind of groups of artists that she kind of tried to fit in with I remember during like the early 2010s we saw her around quite a different crowd of musicians and people than we see her around now and I think that just attests to how much she has really found her sound especially in like the last few years because it's very clear to see now that Charlie does belong in the hyper poop space she's very very good at it and when you listen back to some of her old pop songs you're like there's something missing here and it was the hyperness of it okay I remember a few months back when Charlie first started teasing out Brad this was like early towards 2024 and Von Dutch came out and then the I almost said Ariana grand that is who Charlie's talking about when she says I want to dance to AG she talking about Ariana Grande when she first did her remix with Addison Ray I was like telling my friend Jake I was like you guys know who Jake is listen to our podcast thank you very much I was like she's taking forever to drop this album Like It's actually kind of crazy because a lot of people are now just announcing albums and then it comes out within the next month or so and I was like I feel like brat is taking forever to come out or whatever album she's coming out with next because people are going to be bored with it by the time that it comes out and I've never been humbled so fast because that is just simply not the case because it is 100% one of my favorite releases of the year I think it's doing something that a lot of different other albums aren't doing and I think the marketing behind it makes it all the more fun I think the community around it makes it really really fun I think if it wasn't a community favorite I don't think as many of us would love it as much as we do sonically it's great like I I love the sound I love the lyrics I love everything about it but I think the community and like the memeification of brat has made it way way way more fun to be like oh yeah like this is the [ __ ] time like I'm trying to get tickets for a soldout brat night tomorrow like not a concert like brat night at a bar so we have to talk about how genius the roll out of brat really was first of all when the album cover was released like this lime acid green color with the low res aerial font people hated it people [ __ ] on it so hard like where the hell is Charlie xx's face that was like a very very common criticism like where is her face on this cover she should be on the cover of this where is Charlie where's her face where's her [ __ ] body in an interview with Vogue Singapore AES let's just call her what her real name is Miss XX explained that the cover is a response to the sense of ownership that fans have over female pop figures removing their own image and replacing it with a script adding that the green is a reference to media and fashion love it Charlie even chimed in on Twitter to say I think the constant demand for access to women's bodies and faces in our album artwork is misogynistic and boring especially in the light of AI and deep fake controversies surrounding actors this topic is especially hot right now for the album even came out just because the album cover was released it already garnered controversy and attention this engaged fans and other people in larger discussions about the objectification of women's bodies especially pop stars also a lot of things in the news right now about deep fakes and Ai and how that is affecting a lot of celebrities right now with their bodies and their image being violated so much I think it was a cool ass thing to literally make your cover without you want it to make a statement because Charlie has had some amazing artwork covers in the past like she has this awesome photographer and literally all of the album covers are so badass and like cool and like pieces of artwork within themselves I think this is so different and sticks out and it's almost like an ey it's like I wouldn't want this anywhere but people people are eating this [ __ ] up okay like you can't go anywhere without people's profile pictures being this with their own names because there's this whole website that's like the brat generator I mean I [ __ ] did it I did it myself chronically online girl my why is falling off don't look and it's so easily memeable but all in all it was just genius to make something so hatable and so easily talked about before the music had even dropped yet I mean field Roose literally dropped their ad using the the brat font and the brat color for promoting their BR worst is it brat worst or BR worst it's brat worst to me I Love Field roast they're vegan makes even cooler okay even Grimes queen of AI who she has her own little chronically online girl video about herself her pictures currently reside under my bed not in a weird way but in a storage kind of way and she says the analis is L I'm sorry I had to just for a moment okay I had to get in like the Grimes mode I'll stop the analysis is less that it's a sexist thing I love my list Community I did not mean to say it like that I'm sorry I love my Lis Community the analysis is less that it's a sexist thing but rather that the album art is aggressively anti- athetic and fairly provocative it's the kind of art that elicits outrage online but I assumed that that was on purpose it's your most memorable album cover and the vinyl will look very good up as art on a wall I suspect an toast is more of a reaction to the fact that the art is explicitly poking the viewer and declaring its intent to be as loud as possible at which point a certain number of people will always always be annoyed which usually is a good thing overall Charlie has just done a really really good job at promoting this album I feel like kind of unlike we've ever seen her promoting her albums before and kind of honestly different than a lot of artists were doing I mean we kind of saw similarly when Olivia Rodrigo's sour album came out you know she was doing a lot of Gorilla Marketing such as the sour car wash or the Sour Patch Kids collab I was an advertising major for like two solid semesters okay I know a thing or two about advertising not really really cuz I didn't I didn't graduate with a degree in advertising Charlie's done like a lot of unexpected appearances doing interviews a lot of different Tik Tok interviews as well in February she played a boiler room Warehouse DJ set in Bushwick Brooklyn sharing her music Snippets of new tracks from the album Addison Ray performed Julia Fox performed all the cool people were [ __ ] there and like that was the biggest deal to be there like I remember watching some of my friends stories and being so envious that they were there I was like what the [ __ ] how did you get into Charlie xx's Boiler Room set like how did you even know about that but like the range of Charlie because then she's doing this recess therapy interview it's so unexpected but so funny it's it's you know from the kid that's like it's con I love it and it's so touching and cute to see especially now that we know about things like you know the song I think about it all the time I mean literally her crying in this interview talking to a child it's very moving so on the official album The Green brat she doesn't have any features on it however her Von Dutch remix with Addison Ray first of all sounds like a completely different song but also Addison Ray adds so much to that song honestly and like she herself has become like this hyper poop Mogul in a sense when the song first came out she shared a video of Addison in the studio recording an ad lip scream she does on the song which has accumulated over 31.8 million views [Music] and the cover art for each single from brat and its remixes also have like a stark aesthetic being a black and white photo where a small color band is just on the side with like very very tiny little letters with the track name on it it's like a very cool Stark Duality like you see the black and white photo and you're like oh yeah that is a remix from a single similar to what dojacat did when Scarlet came out Charlie has also changed all the album covers on streaming service says to have the same aesthetic as this with the low reses aerial font with like different colors like very in your face I think that's such a smart strategy what doic cat did was basically change all of her album covers for like a short amount of time a shade of red it's like these little marketing touches that in the grand scheme things you're like oh this doesn't make a difference like this makes absolutely no difference but it does because it gets people like me [ __ ] talking about it cuz we're excited about it and then one of the coolest things is the BRAT wall oh my God following her Boiler Room said she uploaded a cryptic post to X on May 2nd with an address in Bushwick Brooklyn that featured a time basically being like show up here at this address at this time and you can still go there and the green brat wall is still very much so up but what this was the epitome of is like literally making her fans watch paint dry and everyone ate it up her fans gathered at the spot and she began to play some music and dance on top of a car in a swarm of hundreds of fans in front of a lime green wall with the word brat on it this later became known as the brat wall so there was a live stream for the brat wall and after the album had released it was changed to a white background that announced the deluxe version brat and it's the same but there's three more songs so it's not only 3 days after Brat's initial release since then the brat wall has had some upgrades for example when Lord was featured on the album which we'll get into Charlie also made a brat 360 burner account to engage with her super fans it's a Spam account that's like super super selective because when she was posting on it it would be public for only like a limited amount of time and then it would go private it's like oh my God so it created this urgency to go be a part of brat 360 and it was able to build excitement on a personal level with her super fans I honestly think without this like genius marketing I really don't think that brat would be as big as it is I think sometimes when it comes to albums it just takes like really badass marketing to get people really hyped and I think her and her team absolutely killed it so let's get started with the BR album 360 so first of all the music video for 360 is just like the coolest collaboration of all time the whole song is about being an IT girl and that's all she had in the music video was it girls Julia Fox Emma Chamberlain quen Blackwell Rael Senate Alex consani just like this running list like you could watch this music video and be like I know that person I know that person holy [ __ ] I follow her too like it was very very cool to watch ch's asking you to take a 360° turn and look at how not only she's everywhere her influence is all over in fact even on your own reflection in the mirror as in you're also inspired by her subconsciously through her being everywhere she's like what I imagine Jesus Christ to be like as a little kid like when I used to go to Sunday school they're like Jesus Christ is literally everywhere I'm like everywhere Charlie saying that she's like that she's like I'm literally everywhere I'm in your walls and brat has this party girl Persona while also having this duality of being very personal and vulnerable and insecure but this first song definitely like sets the tone like this is a party girl song like we're having [ __ ] fun and I'm confident being the it girl and I am everywhere I'm in your walls the next song on brat is Club Classics [ __ ] love I I'm going to say that about every song I love every song okay it's a vibrant celebration of Club Classics and Club Music she mentions various artists on it such as AG George her fiance Sophie and hudmo Hudson Mohawk indicates that Charlie xx's appreciation for her contemporaries and the influence they have on the club scene these references Also Serve to create a sense of community and shared musical taste among listeners who are familiar with these artists the repeated lines of I want to dance to me could be interpreted as celebration of self-love and individuality where Charlie XX is both the Creator and the consumer of the music that makes her feel the most alive and you're like oh my God this album is so fun like these first two songs are so [ __ ] fun like with you know literally like a single like Von Dutch and you know you're like holy [ __ ] like this is really setting the tone like this is a very [ __ ] fun album and then you get hit and literally stabbed in the heart with a song sympathy is a knife what the [ __ ] I cannot emphasize you how called out I felt when she said why I want to buy a gun why I want to shoot myself she wrote that song about me she literally wrote that song about me not actually she probably wrote it about Taylor Swift but so some fans and media Outlets theorize that the song is inspired by Taylor Swift because of the lines in the second verse that described her connection to Charlie and Charlie tweeting the song named The Day That Taylor's album The tortured poets Department was released in this context Charlie is comparing herself to Taylor I just want to clarify none of this is confirmed okay she has not said that this is who it's about or anything this is simply just speculation by a lot of her fans and also I think it is kind of badass to be like I am insecure about this one girl who is very successful and I can never be her I think that's a cool [ __ ] thing to acknowledge and say not saying that I don't think Charlie XX is [ __ ] cool but what I'm saying is it takes a lot to make a song and be so vulnerable like no one wants to admit that they're like comparing themselves to someone else all the time and like kind of resents them for that I I think that's one of the things I appreciate most on this album is that everything is so St forward and kind of laid out for you trust me I'm a big fan of being like the curtains are blue and what the [ __ ] does blue curtains mean I'm a big fan of that okay believe it or not even though there is this conspiracy that I am ruining media literacy but I love that I think that's very cool I think it's also really cool to lay it out all on the table be like this is exactly how I'm feeling this is exactly how I would describe to some of my friends and I'm going to make media out of this and I am not going to be elusive about it I love that so Charlie hints at the reasons why Taylor might trigger her insecurities and other confessional lines on brat they have some key similarities they're female pop stars around the same age they start musical careers as teenagers and they're singer songwriters so even in the song rewind Charlie questions her worthiness of success I used to never think about billboard but now I started thinking again wondering about whether I think I deserve Commercial Success it's clear that she's talking about someone in the industry with lyrics like I don't want to share the space I don't want to force a smile this one girl Taps my insecurities don't know if it's real or from spiraling one voice tells me that they laugh George says I'm just paranoid says he just doesn't see it he's so naive I'm embarrassed to have it but need the sympathy cuz I couldn't even be here if I tried I'm opposite I'm on the other side I feel all these feelings I can't control oh no I don't know why all the sympathy is just a knife Charlie is very successful however she is not on the same level as Taylor Swift one of the most awarded and commercially successful musicians literally ever while they have two different goals and are two very different type of women who make very different type of music Charlie even acknowledges that on the song but once again insecurity is often irrational and doesn't make any sense and often times does stem from paranoia however the history behind Taylor and Charlie is that Charlie was actually an opener for Taylor on her 2018 reputation tour which may also contribute to jealousy over Taylor's higher profile career in a 2019 interview with pitchfork Charlie said that the experience made her decide that she never wanted to open for anyone ever again which may have something to do about why she is not like opening for choice saon and choice saon is not opening for Charlie on the sweat tour but it is a joint tour char even said especially around monolithic artists I sometimes feel insecure about my position and Taylor is perhaps one of the most monolithic artists of the present time so Charlie being insecure around her would make total sense the phrase sympathy as a knife is alluding to sympathy hurting Charlie deeply similar to the phrase Cuts Like a Knife receiving some doesn't make Charlie feel comforted but instead makes her feel like it is disingenuous it's just a lie and you could hear all of that and be like okay well that could literally about anyone that could be about any pop however the line I don't want to see her at the backstage of my boyfriend show fingers crossed behind my back I hope they break up quick people were like oh yeah that's probably about Taylor from May to June 2023 Taylor publicly dated Maddie Healey the frontman of the band The 1975 who is Charlie engaged to other than George Daniels one of the band mates on the 1975 and if she was writing this back then back when George was her boyfriend the timelines kind of add up it does make sense that she would be talking about Taylor according to concert archives in 1975 played a handful of shows while Taylor and Maddie were dating including BBC radio's On's big weekend on May 27th where Charlie could have encountered Taylor backstage Taylor also performed in a surprise appearance at the 1975 show before she and Maddie publicly dated at their January 2023 show in London another occasion where Charlie may have seen her backstage which may have inspired some of these lyrics it's also important to note that gabriette one of Charlie xx's friends is now the fiance to Maddie Healey because Charlie XX did introduce the two of them together however Charlie has made it very clear that she is not not standing for people [ __ ] on Taylor Swift at her shows at all there was this trend at her shows that people were chanting Taylor Swift is dead at her gigs Charlie said on her Instagram that she will not tolerate it anymore can the people who do this please stop online or at my shows it is the opposite of what I want it disturbs me that anyone would think that there is room for this in my community now Charlie has said relationships between women are super complex and multi-layered you can like someone and dislike them at the same time you can have the best time of your life on a night out with somebody but not be super close to them at all she also said there's an unrealistic expectation in the music industry that if you support women you like other women then you're a good feminist the reverse of that is if you don't like all the other women who exist and breathe on this Earth then you're a bad feminist if you're not a girl's girl then you're a bad woman and this anger towards Taylor Swift from Charlie fans is speculated because Taylor Swift has won yet another chart battle with her album The tortured poets Department securing her sixth week at number one in the United Kingdom after she released new versions of the album with exclusive bonus tracks but some fans believe that the new versions aoy to block Charlie XCX and Bon Joy who previously led the race to number one people were speculating that this is something that Taylor also did to remain at number one when Billy ish's new album came out hm hard and soft with releasing new albums with these bonus tracks regardless Charlie shut that [ __ ] down and was like okay we're not doing this in this community like this is not allowed we are not going to be screaming Taylor is dead at concerts or online or any of that however Taylor Swift did release new UK exclusive editions of the tortured poets department on Thursday afternoon featuring live recording and acoustic versions of of the songs which were only available for sale until 11:59 p.m. Thursday evening the end of the chart tracking week and it's like damn okay brat like sounded like it was going to be like a fun party album but now we're like oh [ __ ] she kind of got real and now we're going to get sad in an interview with rolling stone Charlie revealed that the song is about existential dread after an industry party it's about what have I [ __ ] said did I belong in that situation did I amplify elements of my personality because I felt that I couldn't be myself especially when around monolithic artists I sometimes feel insecure about my position I think a lot of feel that but we don't talk about it because we're all supposed to be strong and confident I feel this very much so with any situation revolving around my career YouTube when I am in situations where I'm meeting other YouTubers or you know people in the industry I'm like holy [ __ ] like why did I act that way like why was I like that and I have the biggest impostor syndrome and I also regret every single interaction I ever had ever not only that but I have this feeling with myself with every interaction I have with other girls every interaction that I have with like long-term friends all of a sudden I never really consider myself like that socially anxious and then something weird happened to me over like the last year I'm like oh my God why can I not leave every single situation feeling like I need to text everyone an apology message like I'm writing like a notesap apology like sorry if I was weird tonight guys sorry about that when I was literally just like existing and she like really stabs you in the gut with lines like cuz I don't know if I belong here anymore this line in the song represents the duality of Charlie's philosophy behind brat she stated that although brat reflects a confrontational and [ __ ] Persona you can also be a brat when you're feeling vulnerable or self-conscious the self-conscious side of being a brat could be reflected in the song where Charlie feels out of place or as if she doesn't belong at a house party so you act like a brat when you're feeling insecure you know Charlie is this like party girl Persona right but sitting here and reflecting and talking about how she suddenly feels uncomfortable at a party where she has to feel like she has to perform and be this version of herself so that she is in line with this Charlie XX Persona she also feels like she needs to perform to avoid being perceived as boring which she discusses on the therapist podcast this is also reminiscent of a conversation she had on an episode of recess therapy in which she talks to Children about partying and resonates with the feeling of not enjoying parties she tears up and expresses her desire to do her own thing and spend time with herself I'm famous but not quite Charlie is a very well-known artist okay we all know Boom Clap however she's still considered like this underground and Indie artist even though she's made hits throughout her whole entire career part of her feelings about that could be because she has not reached success such as you know like we talked about mainstream Taylor Swift one of my favorite things that said about the brat album is I'm over the idea of metaphor and Flowery lyricism and not saying exactly what I think the way I would say it to a friend in a text message I think that is so valid I think often times with songs with these like very simple lyrics or very straightforwardness of it and you know without all of these metaphors unless she says flowery lyricism it's seen as weak songwriting or weak lyricism however in reality I feel like this album hits hard for me and is very touching regardless of how simple it is I felt similarly to hit me hard and soft a lot of people said like oh the lyricism is so [ __ ] simple and boring in this like it's so straightforward like it doesn't leave anything to the imagination and I like that I do like that while yes I do want to read into things sometimes but it is also very nice when an artist is vulnerable and is like this is exactly how it is I think we've grown to appreciate that especially on social media there are definitely social media influencers out there who are very brutally honest with you and tell you how it is and we're like oh my God I [ __ ] love that I love that a little bit more than the frilliness and like the beautifulness of like a very artsy fartsy Orion carlot Instagram photo and while some may argue well it's not artistic this is an art I am one of those people who can appreciate both I'm like this this song hits just as deep if not deeper than a song that has that flowery lyricism that I I often love like I [ __ ] love songs that have flowery lyricism but Charlie talking to the audience as if how she would to a friend in a text message and being like this is exactly how I'm feeling this is what I'm experiencing these are the thoughts that are running through my mind this is a conversation between me and me in my head I really really appreciate that a lot because Charlie has called the album her most aggressive and controversial record to Charlie being a brat is about being a complex character you can admit your flaws and recognize that makes you human but you can also do whatever you want in the way that you want to Charlie success over a decade in the making is a testament to not needing to be the biggest pop star in the world or selling millions of Records to be deemed successful a core fan based solid music and an off-kilter but accessible aesthetic can carry a pop star to Heights that are typically only resolved for Titans in the industry we always talk about wanting influencers to seem relatable and and you know accessible and I think right now people are really looking for the accessibility with the musical artists that they are listening to I love seeing the success of so many young women who have like worked really really [ __ ] hard in the industry and are just getting their flowers now like for example Chapel Ron Serina Carpenter Charlie like we've talked about all these women before they have worked for like a decade and their hard work pays off and while some people may argue like their aesthetic is boring and their aesthetic is very simple their aesthetic is very plain it's not it's just accessible and that's why people love it but there is so much work that goes on behind the scenes doesn't mean that their work prior wasn't good sometimes it just requires a right marketing team or a bigger budget something that Charlie arguably got after her resign with Atlantic for two records because back in 2020 Charlie did say that her latest album crash would be her Fifth and final record with Atlantic however she did resign so anyway continuing on with the album talk talk the context for this is actually about her fiance George it starts off with I've been looking at you putting holes in your head and Charlie gives context to this in a Tik Tok where she says you know when you just feel like someone's watching you you can feel like a hole burning in the back of your head cuz that's exactly what she was doing she was literally staring at him from across the room this was actually based off of a real life experience between her and George talk talk is about a very specific moment where me and my fiance we were not together but we were definitely very into each other we were at the 2020 nme Awards we were both sat on different tables and we were like texting each other but we weren't hanging out but we were both looking over at each other it was very like one of us would look and then the other one would look away and then just vice versa in the song I say I followed you to the bathroom and then I felt crazy I did actually do that I saw that he went to the bathroom so I was like oh I'll like go to the bathroom and then and I like got halfway there I was like this is insane and then I went and sat down again the song is so literal but how [ __ ] cute is that story I think it's cute and all when when artists are like the song is yours now I don't want to tell you the meaning of the song because it's personal to me and like whatever it means to you is what it means so like the song is yours like do with it what you will I will never tell you the meaning of it yeah that's fine and great but something that Charlie's doing and being like this is exactly what the song is about I'm like H this is a [ __ ] wet dream for me when discussing her album Charlie did say that there are no diss tracks on it except for Von Dutch before Charlie's iconic Boiler Room set in New York Charlie was interviewed by the face and set the tone for a six album saying I kind of missed the time where pop music was like really volatile and crazy I missed the Paris Hilton days everyone is so worried about everything right now how they're perceived this art they create is going to offend February 21st 2023 Charlie did tweet yes this is a sub tweet don't ever be fake to me ever again at a party in the street wherever I see you I know what you say Von Dutch is a very confident song and addresses jealousy and gossip that often accompany Fame and the song cleverly uses the early 2000s fashion brand Von Dutch as a simple not just for its nostalgic value but also to signify Charlie's ability to remain relevant and classic the everchanging world of Pop music similar to 360 she's everywhere everywhere you turn she's there you look in the mirror she's there she's in your walls everything is romantic Charlie shows the symbiosis of beauty and ugliness primitive and elitist man-made and divine can be assumed that these lines refer to the unsuccessful desire of the lyrical heroin to become the framework of materialism in order to find platonic love Charlie basically talks about how everything can be appreciated through the lenses of Love even if those things are ugly she does mention that none of the songs are about romantic love on this album I mean arguably talk talk might be one but that was like you know the pining and and and wanting for George but I like thinking of this song as not even being about a romance song even though the song is called Everything Is romantic and then we have another [ __ ] sad song like rewind if you've never listen to brat and you're like oh I'm going to listen to this and you hear rewind and you're like Nicole this isn't a sad song yes the [ __ ] it is I'd go back in time to where I wasn't insecure to when I didn't overanalyze my face shape nowadays I only eat food at the good restaurants but honestly I'm always thinking about my weight damn relevant I literally talked about this in my last video where I talked about why do I not weigh the same that I do at the age of 16 I as a 24-year-old I used to never think about billboard but now I've started thinking about it again wondering about whether I think I deserve Commercial Success the song is about Charlie's difficulty with Nostalgia and looking back at how time has passed and how she thinks differently on things now damn if you've been around here for a while I'm the queen of that literally like Nostalgia eats me alive another song So eye like a literal tear Jer the song was first spoken of after a listening party that Charlie held for fans some of those who attended sh that one of the songs is very personal it might be dedicated to Sophie on March 6 2024 she debuted at the billboard women in Music Awards announcing this song is about a person who's really really special to me who's no longer with us it's called so I and the song is supposedly about the artist Sophie who had passed in 2021 Sophie was a very close friend of Charlie and also kind of a mentor to her helping her with music and she was very much so in the hyperpop space and so this is kind of an Ode To Her the song opens up with your star burn so bright the lyric has somewhat of a straightforward meaning as it describes Sophie and her Legacy as a star that is burning bright however it can also be noted that in 2021 as a result of change.org petition the asteroid 1980 re1 was named Sophie Exon in her honor the original petition to name toi 1338b a circumbinary exoplanet in Sophie's honor was co-signed by Charlie XX so she is literally a star Charlie also sings it's okay to cry so I cry this is a reference to Sophie song it's okay to cry from her 2018 album oil of every pearls on insides in addition to the reference the song is sampled in so I this one made me especially sad when I was writing this video but things you suggest make it faster would you like this one maybe just a little bit funny enough Sophie would almost always speed and Pitch Up Charlie's tracks by a semitone when playing them live in her sets immediately after seeing this line Charlie takes Sophie's previous suggestion and speeds the song up several beats per minute as she sings the chorus One Last Time one of the most talked about songs girl so confusing obviously this is basically Charlie overthinking and reflecting on all of her interactions with a certain person it highlights her insecurities and the confusion she feels about the relationships particularly with this one person that she's addressing she questions whether they genuinely like her or Harbor negative feelings illustrating the complexities and self-doubt that come with trying to understand each other's true intentions and feelings people say we're alike they say we got the same hair we talk about making music but I don't know if it's honest this is where people started to speculate they're like who the hell is she talking about there was you know some speculation like maybe it's about FK twigs and they heard the line about like we have the same hair and people were like oh it's definitely about Marina from Marina and the Diamonds but a lot of people really said on the fact that it's about Lord it has to be about Lord Lord and Charlie have a very long history with one another considering that they were confused a lot for each other when they were both coming up into the music scene in an Instagram story posted on her private account Charlie replied to a fan who asked about the possibility of Lord collaboration and explained that while she's talked with her about writing a song together but the talks never lead to any actual songs being finalized and she doesn't know why that is you're all about writing poems but I'm about throwing parties think you should come to my party and put your hands up well some people also speculate that this song makes a reference to Marina diamonds and Lord's song team she famously sings I'm kind of over getting told to throw my hands up in the air and people think that this is a direct response to that in the song literally Charlie says maybe one day we'll make music the internet would go crazy and the internet went [ __ ] crazy this is a screenshot that Charlie posted of what Lord had sent her the lyrics to the remix song the girl so confusing version with Lord is an alternate version of the song girl so confusing by Charlie XCX Lord's lyrics read I was so lost in my head and scared to be in your pictures cuz for the last couple years I've been at war with my body I try to starve myself thinner and then I gained all the weight back lord is basically talking about the epitome of girlhood we as women are often so obsessed with our own thoughts our own bodies Our Own selves that we are not taking the time to think how our actions may be affecting others and what they may be thinking about that girl you walk like a [ __ ] when I was 10 someone said that that's me literally I I still get told that it's you and me on the coin the industry loves to spend Lord and Charlie chickley comment on how this remix was manufactured as all things in the music industry are resolved miscommunication between two singers it's just as much of a genius marketing move featuring The Artist the original song is literally about because they literally said the internet will go crazy and it did and literally Lord ends it off with I ride for you Charlie like that's beautiful it's become kind of like a meme online and be like what girl would I work it out on the remix with I might say something that's going to be a little bit controversial you know when like a very famous athlete dies and then boys will always come out of the Woodworks and start texting you and be like hey I've just been thinking like this athlete just died and just made me think about how like I don't want to treat you poorly in this life time we never know when our last day is I just feel like a lot of guys did that like when Kobe died this is literally just the girl version of that like texting a girl and being like I saw Lord and Charlie work it out on the remix so I really want to work it out with you the other day I was at the gym and I was in the zone I was very much so in the zone I'm scrolling through Twitter trying to distract myself and I saw someone had tweeted damn the Lord and Charlie remix makes me want to reach out to old girlfriends and like work it out with them and I liked it cuz I was like oh my God girl I feel the same it's a girl that I do not talk with anymore and I think we have beef with each other it's a miscommunication I don't know I was like [ __ ] I unliked it but then I had to reike it cuz I was like they already saw that I liked it they had to have seen that I had liked it anyway embarrassing I want Sabrina Carpenter and Olivia Rodrigo to work it out on the remix that's what I want the Apple hey you know the Tik Tok dance you know it right I think the app's run right to the cor I think the apples rot right down to the core from all the things passed down from all the apples coming before in an interview on the podcast last C teres does Charlie described the song as being about her at times complicated relationship with her parents Charlie wonders what traits would have been passed down to her including the ones her parents possessed that she doesn't love while this song is like really fun and like a Bop and everything it has people especially on Tik Tok talking about like generational trauma like damn I didn't think Charlie XX was going to make me want to like work it out with my ex-best friend and rethink the relationship with my mother his song Mean Girls in an interview for the face Charlie states that mean girls is inspired by Dasha nekrasova and an interest in succubus looking dead-eyed women she notes herself and gabria as examples of this archetype you said she's problematic in the way that you say it's so fanatic think she already knows that you're obsessed Dasha and other people associate with the dime Square art movement have made remarks that align with their alt-right beliefs which many believe are bigoted and problematic despite this the mov has received significant attention and cultural press Sasha herself has landed roles in mainstream media such as succession Charlie also reflects on the effects of like stand culture following an idol and listening to everything they do regardless of controversy that they're in I think about it all the time if you have watched any of my content you know how hard this song [ __ ] hit it's about a baby literally Jake was like maybe don't listen to that song it's about baby but like this song is exactly how I feel about pregnancy and babies to a certain extent I think about it all the time reflects Charlie's thoughts and feelings about the future especially regarding motherhood she shares her uncertainties and existential questions about when or if she should take that step in her life it's a personal and introspective piece that explores her contemplation on the significant life choice human talks about motherhood and wanting to be a mother on Emma Chamberlain's podcast in a rolling stone interview Charlie St that the song was strugly inspired by one of her close friends n ba when she had a child it was crazy seeing her standing in the same cloth she's always born but now she has this completely different perspective on life than I do she's not enforcing that on me it's just a fact she's not alive for the same reasons that I am now my less of a woman if I don't have a kid well I feel like I've missed out on my purpose in life I know we're not supposed to say that but it's this biological and social programming there's a lot of pressure on women to not talk about that stuff openly especially not in pop music or music generally we're supposed to be sexy and free and fun and wild my circumstance often involves me making a decision and being like I'm going to come off my birth control I'm not going to tore I'm going to go see what Georgia wants to do and then we're going to try for a baby I feel like a kid I don't feel like I can make that decision you have to make the decision because we have a clock that's how I feel I talk about this in therapy almost weekly and it's very cool to see Pop Star talking about that cuz I don't think I've ever seen any music about that honestly and I honestly felt like there was something really wrong with me for the longest amount of time for being being like damn I really want to focus on my life first before I have a child and like that's not one of my biggest goals right now but it seems to be everyone else's goals like the other women that I have grown up with I'm like is there something wrong with me am I selfish am I bad person for feeling this way my bad person for not knowing if I ever even want kids is this in my cards is this in my future I don't have all of my life to think about this though like I kind of have to make a decision relatively kind of sort of soon cuz I don't have forever but if I wait too long then I might regret it it's just this like NeverEnding cycle and it's very treacherous it's like damn am I destined to be Barren am I a barren woman is that what I am maybe and then Charlie's like all right now 365 365 links back to the opening truck 360 notably both titles share the same first two digits which is sampled in this song thus hinting at brat being a loop this Motif has also been seen before in Charlie self-titled 2019 album Charlie begins with 1999 and ends with 2099 and of course there are three more songs Hello Goodbye guess which is literally all about [ __ ] underwear somehow I found a way to cry to that song don't ask me how and then Spring Breakers which is apparently her feelings towards the Grammys in early 2023 after not being nominated for her fifth album crash Harley spoke out on an Instagram in a since deleted post me not being nominated for a Grammy for crashes like Mia goth not being nominated for an Oscar for Pearl and only further evidence that proves people don't want to see hot evil girls Thrive true Charlie being a hater in these lyrics could refer to the public comments criticizing the Grammy she may also be implying that they snubbed her music because she's known for being Brash and honest doesn't play the politeness game that is expected pop performers especially women this is coming from a girl who like only listened to Indie and if you've been around for long enough you know I only listen to men I literally only ever listen to male artists and I was like what the hell why don't I listen to any [ __ ] women that's a time of the past okay I'm a born again hyper poop girly okay I see the light now and I think in a time where people are really Desiring hyperpop which for various reasons some people think that you know hyperpop is a sign that we are re-entering a recession but even if that is true and I still do love hyperpop this is like the perfect time for Charlie and her success because there're so many just regular pop girlies that are trying to enter the hyperpop space but no one is quite doing it like Charlie but even Billy eyh with the ending of her song Lam moreo Kim Petrus Katy Perry doat Hy everyone wants to do hyperpop nowadays but will they all do it well debatable like I said earlier the most recent installation to the brat wall was literally it saying okay bye and people are like oh my God brat Summer's over brat summer has come to an end that's it brat summer is over but Charlie was like no no no brat summer has just begun literally like a plane flying over LA today I think that said brat summer there's still rumors of the Remix album coming soon with Kesha being on it for club classic Taylor Swift featured on sympathy as a knife that's a very very bold claim but I don't know I pull a check on the song Apple Karly Ray Jepson on talk talk I personally think that Trisha pis should be on I think about all the time because she's a mom now you know what I mean I think she would be a perfect fit for it and I think she could enter the hyperpop space for sure for sure I mean Katy Perry is literally using her as a vehicle to advertise her new hyperpop song yes that is Trisha pis having a brat summer we always talk about Gamers getting in trouble like we don't know any of these Gamers who do you know oh oh like Aidan Ross and stuff I guess xqc oh yeah Charlie uh XCX is that a gamer I I've had everyone everyone on their mom tag me in the Trisha pis cosplaying Ash taone video and photos give it two months all right give it two months and Trisha's going to be a brat girly okay she's going to be in like lime green on the just Trish podcast she's a little behind okay she's a little behind she just had a baby give her time but she's going to declare it as like a brat summer where she's going to be like it's a brat [Music] fall thank you guys so much for watching this video If you guys liked it please make sure that you leave it a like
