[Music] Allahbarbll [Music] Allahbar Allahbar abar abbar illbar. Allah abar. [Music] Allahbarb Allah abar. Allah abbar. How is everyone doing today? Alhamdulillah. How was your week? How was your week with the Quran? Good. Alhamdulillah. Great. Alhamdulillah. Excellent. It's good. Alhamdulillah. Alhamdulillah. Everything was good on this site as well. Trying to catch up. So, I think there are some new students as well. So, welcome uh to our course. Inshallah. we can we're here to help you any way you need help. Uh but easiest way to get help is to join a group and inshallah connect with your classmates um on telegram as well. Okay. Inshallah. Okay. Trying to keep up. Yes. So it'll take some adjustment uh but inshallah um you will get there. So may Allah make ease for every single one of us in studying his dean. u may keep us as students of knowledge uh for our entire lives. Okay. So um let's get started with a reminder [Music] inshallah. Okay. So uh yeah so let's take a look at this hadith and then inshallah we'll have some discussion on it. So Abu Hurah reported the messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam said he who keeps a horse for Allah's cause having faith in Allah meaning having iman in Allahhaala and relying on his promise will find that its fodder drink droppings and urine will all be credited to him in his scales on the day of resurrection. Okay. So now this is an amazing hadith. So here the person is keeping a horse for the sake of Allahh. That means he's going to use the horse for Allah's sake, right? And he has iman and he's relying on Allahh's promise. Meaning that Allahh will reward. Allahh will accept all these sacrifices and will reward. And so what will this person find on the day of judgment? Subhan Allah. They will find that the fodder meaning all the food that was fed to the horse. All the drink that was given to the horse and then because of that all the droppings in the urine all of that subhan Allah will be put on the scales and he will be rewarded and equal to all of that. Now isn't that amazing? Subhan Allah. Because the food and drink is what causes the droppings in the subhan Allah but it's counting as double right so from this we can understand another aspect so whatever is done for the sake of Allah subhanaa tala right so having iman in Allah believing in Allah's rewards then what will they find that everything they put into It will be a source of reward. So now let's think about this class. Right? So alhamdulillah you registered. What did you need to register for the class? You needed a device, right? You needed some money. You needed to be able to um have internet access, right? Yeah. You needed time, intention. What else? What are some tangible things that you are putting in? Tons of notes. Yeah. So, subhan Allah. If you're handwriting those notes, then you're using uh paper. You purchase that paper, right? Or you purchase that juz uh you purchase that pen. And subhan Allah, you're going to have ink um tons and tons of pens of ink that are going to be used, right? Uh yes. And if you uh purchase your musaf, excellent. Yes. And then you had um your space, right? So mahalabar beautiful study areas, bags, boxes, baskets. Amazing. Alhamdulillah. very very motivational because I think everyone was able to see that you know it's possible to study in every situation right so your bags your desks the chair you're sitting in uh subhan allah the um the carpets you're sitting on your um notebooks your pens your pencils you know everything your bags the boxes or the baskets every single thing subhan Allah every Yeah, you're stationary. Bought a new laptop for the course. Excellent. What's going to power that laptop? Some electricity. One of your pens already ran out. Hello. What else? Yes, you're giving me intangible things, but what are some tangible things? Right. When you um when you think of it this way, sorry. Um then spending money on books and other supplies becomes easy. Exactly. Yes. Sticky notes, right? So, Subhan Allah. All of these things are going to be Wait, highlighters. So, imagine how much you've used in just the past two or so weeks. And then imagine subhan Allah that over the next four plus years right earphones for listening to the lectures. Yes. So imagine all of that on a scale. So is anything going to waste? Is anything subhan Allah going to be overlooked? No. Right. If subhan Allah if you know uh this hadith is telling us about you know the food the drink and then what comes after that everything is going to be credited right so then what should uh you know how should we feel about this this is exciting isn't it subhan Allah I have an opportunity to get everything weighed and accepted by Allah subhanaa tala Right. Yeah. The car, the gas, right? The wear and tear on the tires. Alhamdulillah. So when you're paying your internet bills or you're paying your electricity bills, make your intention that you're paying these bills so that you can study Allahh's book. So you can study his deed. And subhan Allah, those bills, all of that um you know connection, all of that will be weighed. All of that will be weighed. Subhan Allah. Right? And then all to get all of these things, you have to put in some money as well. And subhan Allah, all of that money will be weighed. So everything we put into this is going to give us a return. So this is an amazing amazing investment, right? So the next time you're purchasing a pen or you're um you know having to download an app and perhaps even pay for that app, you just remind yourself that this is going to be weighed on the day of judgment. This is an investment that has a return for sure, right? Other investments we make in this duny, we may or may not get a return, but this is an investment that is guaranteed a return, right? Excellent. You spend your pocket money. Amazing. Subhan Allah. I know a sister who uh subhan Allah uh asked her husband for her mahar. She said, "I want to pay for all of these things myself." And so she asked her husband to give her her mahar and he did. And subhan Allah she paid for the course through that right so whatever you're investing right know that it is not going to waste it is not going to waste so um subhan Allah when we invest for the sake of Allahh Allahh returns it in this world as well right so anything you make as Allahh returns it equal or even better most likely more than you put Okay. Right. And so, alhamdulillah, you guys all mentioned um tangible things, but you all are giving up intangible things as well that you all have written, right? Your sleep, your time, right? Yeah. The attention for your family members, your health, the sabar that's needed, right? So, all of these things, none of these things are going to go to waste. the energy. Yeah. The food, right? Next time you're eating, especially if you're eating during a break or before class or after class, you know, ask Allah accept it in his sake, right? So, I'm going to get energy so that I can inshallah do my homework, right? That I can inshallah worship you in the better way. So, subhan Allah, everything everything will become a source of reward inshallah. Okay. So now that we know that um alhamdulillah it'll be easier to invest right whether it's something tangible or intangible inshallah for the sake of Allahh and may Allah allow it all to be weighed and accepted by him on the day of resurrection right and you all know very welldam um our faculties our um sorry ears eyes brain hands. Yeah. Subhan Allah. Everything everything being used to take this course, right? Alhamdulillah. Alhamdulillah. So everything is being preserved, right? So don't think that anything is um a waste. Any moment is going uh is being wasted. You know, alhamdulillah, this is a blessing. If we take it as a blessing, we will find even more blessings in it. Right? So this is not um something that subhan Allah is going to be wasted in any way at all inshallah. Yes. Alhamdulillah. And Allahh generosity as well. Right. Who gave us the money to be able to purchase the course or the books or the pens or the devices. It is Allahh's fu. That itself is his ful. And then subhan Allah if you spend from the ful on his cause then again he rewards you. So we see that the generosity is just multiplying. Yes. Allah's risk. Subhan Allah. Right. Yeah. Very true. Guiding us to be here is a huge blessing in itself. Something we cannot um subhan Allah. Thank Allah for enough. Right. Alhamdulillah. So, alhamdulillah. We are very honored um that Allah has chosen us to study his dean and may Allah keep us steadfast um throughout. A mean um very true. We made a dua list for the course and may Allah accept all of that as well. A mean inshallah. Okay. So today's lesson is inshallah going to be lesson number four surah bakar ayat number 8 to 16. So this is your first um little longer lesson that we're going to cover inshallah. Of course every lesson is amazing. So I look forward to um inshallah going over these ayat with you all. So we'll start with our lesson today inshallah and then we'll have recitation we'll have taps and inshallah we'll have our dua session as well today. Okay. So if everyone is ready um are you ready for sister vidad are you ready to inshallah learn some rules of the yes okay so everything you're investing remember it's all being weighed and accepted by Allah subhanaa tala so with that let's pass the mic to uh our dear sister Vidat Listen. Who are everyone? I would like to welcome you all to our session. How are all of you doing? I hope you all are doing good. Okay. Alhamdulillah. Um and excited. Yes, I'm doing very well for asking. Alhamdulillah. I'm doing really well and I'm really excited to be here with all of you. Now, how many of you were able to find the resources for our Tajid rules and our notes? And how many of you were not able to? Okay. Alhamdulillah, that's great. Mashallah. Very good. Excellent. And how many of you actually uh did the work as well where you finished your notes that you had to uh make for the introduction which was you know what is tued? uh we talked about the lan uh the you know the the jelly and the ki okay excellent mah very good so if you did that that's wonderful and if you have not done that I would suggest that you definitely do that because inshallah then you would be good for the first one were we supposed to keep the notes open uh I'm not sure what you mean by that sister if what that means open. So just inshallah please clarify. That's great. We're filling the assignment again. Uh right now we Yes, absolutely. You can use uh the the purpose of the note template is so that you make sure that you have all your notes. Uh so you can definitely you don't have to do it from memory. If you do it from memory that's amazing but you don't have to absolutely not. Uh that is strictly just for you to make sure you are completing your notes. Okay. Oh yes perfectly fine sister Salma. If you are not printing it and you just want to use the template uh and make your own notes that's perfectly fine. Okay. Absolutely. Yes. Absolutely. Okay. Inshallah. So if you don't want to print it and you want to make your own template on in your own notebook that's perfectly fine as well. Okay. Uh the reason why I have given that is just so that you know that how to make what what you need to know which is pretty much everything on the slides but still. Okay. So today inshallah we're going to start with our dua and we're going to go into a set of you know rules in of um this subject. Inshallah we're going to go go over it. So let's begin. Now, as you can see that we're going to go into a subject that is very very commonly repeated in in the Quran. So, we're not really following uh the same way that you know the order that the that the book goes in. And there's a reason for that. uh we trying to make sure that when you're reciting uh you first learn the rules and then inshallah we will cover all the other subjects as well but this will help you inshallah with the recitation of the Quran okay inshallah so what are we going to be learning today we're going to be learning the rules of sakina and tenwin okay sakina and tenwin now you might think well what is noon sakina Okay. So, uh inshah let me have you ever heard of this rule before? Uh if you haven't, please let me know. If you haven't, if you have heard it, that's great. These are very commonly used rules. But if it's your first time hearing it, uh please tell me that as well. Okay. Okay. Not sure. Okay. Okay. So, there's a lot of you who are not sure with that. Uh okay. We'll talk about that. that what is tenwin? Okay, so whenever we're talking about non sakina uh it's actually pretty simple. Okay, so let let me just show you all in and this is this is for people who are not sure what is non sakina. Okay. Oh no problem that's fine. Inshallah our goal will be that you will be very very good at this rule by the end of this topic in okay so let me just pick a different color where it's more visible. So when we're talking about what we're talking about is a noon the letter that has a okay that has nothing on it like it does not have a fat or it does not even have a okay nothing. So whenever a letter is void of you know any of the okay we call it a okay so does that make sense? So what is non sak? It's this right here. It's a noon that has a sukun. Okay. And then when we're looking at tenwin okay now what is tenwin? Tenwin are double harakat. Okay. So for example you have two fatas on a letter. So let's for example let's pick the letter ba. Okay. So I have two fatas. Now whenever um you know we have the fata it always usually will come with a with an al if as well okay so that's ba okay and then so two fatas on top and then let's say we have okay that's not a good ba then we have let's say bad that can come with a kas okay so there's two kasras okay and then we have ba that has a has two dlas or It's also called in Arabic. Okay. So, so what is tenwin then? Tenwin is referring to these marks here. So, two fatas, two kas. Okay. And two namas. So, we're saying rules of sak and tenwin. Okay. Now imagine if I had to say every time, hey everyone, I'm talking about right. If every time I had to say that like oh two fatas, two kas and twoas, what do you feel? Do you think that's very practical of me to say that? Um or does that sound no? No, it does not. Right. So to make it you can say more practical right we refer to these these like or these you know two double fatas two double kas and double das as tenwin okay does that make sense so in order to cut time all of them are referred to as tenwin okay like for example um and to kind of make it even easier for all of you it's kind of like when you're part of one family, you know, like my family is the Hussein family, let's say. So, instead of naming all my family members, you just say, "Oh, the Hussein family." So, automatically everybody knows that you're talking about the whole family, right? I don't have to name my kids. I don't have to name my husband or myself. So, so just think about this as a tenuin family. So, anytime we're saying tenwin, we're referring to two fatas, two kasuras, and two damas. Okay? Is is that does that make sense to everybody or you're thinking oh what's tenwin? So remember if you can you can call tenwin the tenwin family. Okay perfect excellent. Okay now how do we pronounce the tenwin? Again I'm going to be spending some time here even though it might seem like okay well this is pretty basic but inshallah if we are going to learn this we need to understand these a little bit better. So noon is pretty easy because we can see that it's a noon with a sukun. Okay. Now when we're pronouncing the letter ba, right? How would we pronounce it? So whenever there's two fatas, we say ben, right? Ben bin bo, right? Ben bin bo, right? Do do you agree with that? That's how we pronounce that's how we would say it, right? Yes. Now, you might think, well, why am I talking about this? Inshallah, I'm going to I promise I'm coming to I'm going to make a point. Okay? And the reason why I'm doing this is because sometimes when we see notes, then we start reading them. And I want you to just focus on this right now. Okay? Perfect. Okay? Now, you might think, well, why where do you think the the noon is coming from when we say Ben? Do you see a noon anywhere? Like for example, when I'm saying ben where where where did I get the noon sound from? It's hidden. Somebody's saying it's hidden. Well, I can't see it. There is a sukun. Okay. So, for example, when I'm saying ben right bin b, it's coming from the tenwine, but it's inside the sound of tu. Okay, that's interesting. Okay, so do you agree that there is some sound in there? There's a noon sound in there. Okay, very good. Wow, some of you mah are very amazing. Wow, sister Joan, that's excellent. Yes. So, so do you hear that there is a noon sound in there? Yes. But do we see that noon? Like, you know, here we see the noon sakin. I can see it. You know, like my eyes can see it. Yes, you there it's there, right? But here, can I see see it in the tenwin? Yes. But there is a sound right there. So, do you think that the noon is in there? What is the noon in here? Okay. Someone's saying it's hidden. So, is the noon in there? Sister Sandra saying indeed. Yes, it is in there, Sister Hafa. Otherwise, how do we hear the noon sound? For example, if I say ben, do you hear the note? Okay. So now I in I'm going to clear all of this and I'm just going to focus on this. So I'm going to focus on bin. Okay. Let's do bin. Okay. So I have been right. And now do you hear the sound of noon in here? Do you hear it? Yes. Very good. Bin. Excellent. Bin. You hear the sound? But where is anon? Where is it? It's hidden. Okay. Very good. Okay. So, so do you all agree that I can write can I? Okay. So, the way I'm pronouncing bin is it like this. Do you think this can also pass for the same sound? Bin. Is this bin with a and known with a subun? Yes. Very good. Excellent. So this is bin and this is bin as well. Okay. Now this is what you really need to understand inshallah when we are looking at the sake and rules that this is something that the Arabs would do. What did they do? They would in in or right they would say the noon but they would not write it. Okay. They would not write the noon the noon saken. Okay. So what did they do instead? They just added for to show the noon saken they just added an extra har. Okay. So you see like instead of putting the non sakin where we can see it, what did they do? They just put an an extra hara. The second haraka in tan is to represent the noon sakin. Okay. So if you understand that, please press one. And if you don't understand that, press zero. Just so that I know if you're understanding this point. Yes, that's true, sister Aisha. Yes. And there's another reason for it as well. Yes. Very good. So here and we can do the same thing for a fat like when there's two fatas. Okay. So you have bun. Okay. And I can write bun as ba with a fat and then noon with a sukun. Okay. Noon with a sukun. Okay. Now you might think well where is the noon sakin over here in this the first one where is the noon saken can anybody tell me now knowing what you know from here where is the noon saken here when we put ba with the two fatas very good it is represented from the second hara okay the second one so what did the Arabs do what I want you to remember is that Arabs would say the noun but they would not write it. Okay? And to show the sakin they would put an extra har. Okay? They would put an extra fat or an extra kasra or an extra. Okay? So I hope that that makes sense. Right? So now maybe you can see that why these rules are put together. You have no s and so why is that? Because in the first case you see the noun. You see it very clearly you know it's like you know an you know the word an the is right there but in right in the fat the two fatas in the two kas and in the in the two dhas right where is the nonak then can we see it can we see it in the tenwin family no very good we don't see it right but where Is it how is it represented? It is represented in the second paraca. Very good. Excellent. Okay. So that's why we call them rules of non and tenwin. Okay. Because they are basically there the nun. It's just that we can see it very clearly. But in tenwin it's actually hidden. It's hidden but we pronounce it. Okay. We don't see the nonaken visible. It's not visible to us, but it's still there. But because the way we pronounce it, okay, do you think that's okay for everybody? Are you all okay so far, or is this too much? Please let me know in. Okay. Okay. Perfect. So again, this is very um this is very very um Yes. Because you know sometimes you might wonder well where is the noon sound coming from? Like you know when we say right? Um okay so okay so you mean like this way and this way like that there's different reasons for that. Okay so that again has to do with the rules sister Shahina. So that that is to identify the rules if you're just looking at it through that. So there are are it helps us to know. Yes. But inshallah maybe we'll come come to that later. Okay. So now this one I don't know why my screen is going dark here. Okay. Um now this was I kind of gave you the answer before. So you can all answer that now. Now that you know the answer actually. So let's see if you're able to uh respond to this. Why is a rule called noon saka and tenwin? Why is this named noon sak and tenwin? Any idea? Uh yes, I'm going to try to see if I can open it again and hopefully that will resolve this. Okay, just give me a moment, please. and try to open that again. Okay, now you now you should be in able to see it. Please let me know if you can see the the question more clearly. Okay. Uh Okay. Very good. Because they both it applies to both. Excellent, Sister Shamila. Yes, because they both have the noon sound. They're rel related to the noon sak. Excellent Sister Johan. Okay. Very good. So um um extra I don't know what extra it's just there. Right. So now the rule is called this is because now why okay why is the rule called? Because this is related to. So there are multiple rules that come under whenever you see a sak orin there are rules that come uh under that. Okay. So for example is kind of singled out. Okay. Why? Because there are multiple rules that follow it. Okay? Does that make sense? So the reason why we're studying and because there are rules that pertain just to this letter in particular you can say it's quite special because you know there won't be rules for um ba like basakina you can say or like um you know you can't say there is a rule for gene sakina or something like I mean actually there are for both but not too many there's just one thing but for no sakin okay there is um there is multiple rules. So that's why we have to single this letter out and study it. Okay, does that make sense? Because on one page you will find so many rules that pertain to this. So why is the rule called nonaken and because again it is related to nonaken okay and now you know why they are um together right? Why are why why is this rule called and that's a good question and there inshallah when we go into more detail you'll see why okay why why so many rules come under maybe inshallah once we are at the end of the rules then I can then you can come back to this question so write it down and then ask me once we are done and then inshallah you will understand why okay why this this letter in particular has so many rules Okay. So, we'll come back to that at the end inshallah that that question. Yeah. I mean again that quality just it's innate in that in this letter right uh sister Zena but it's not necessarily due to that. Ah okay you're you're you're good mah keep those ideas inshallah. Okay. So now you have all kind of come to very nice uh understanding of you know noun and now let's look at my notes here that what do we have here for like how do we understand okay so is again it's a noon that does not have a vowel okay and what is a vowel it is you know the fatha right it doesn't have the two fatas it doesn't have the two kas or two dhamas so that is non vowelled it it has nothing on it right it just has a sukun Now when we look at the letter non with the sukun right it remains unchanged in written form and in pronunciation when we're continuing reading it or stopping on it. Okay. So for example uh let's say this um I'll give you an example. Let me just change my color here. So for example, I I'm going to pronounce this as um actually this one an right with a with an okay so now imagine I want to read this word. Okay. Okay. Now if I'm if I'm continuing will I read the noon second? Like for example, if there's another word following this, am I going to read this noon second? Yes. Right. I have to. Right. Now, if I'm stopping on this word, I want to stop on this word. Will I read this? I won't, sister. Yes, I will. Right. I will read it in both cases. Whether I'm continuing in my ayah, right? or whether I am stopping this moon sucking is not going anywhere right it will always be red and trust me you might think well obviously this is this is one of those points where you might think well obviously right what's what is something new about this but that's the understanding that I want you to have of sakina it's non vowel number one okay and number two it remains the same right whether you are continuing whether you're stopping you will always read it as a noon sack. Uh that that's not important for us right now. Okay. Yes. But right now we're just focusing on the noon itself. Okay. We're just looking at the noon. Okay. Or nonvowed noon. Okay. Now let's look at penween. Okay. Tenwin. Okay. And this is something that I spoke to you informally earlier and now here it's in written form. Tenwin as you said as I remember I said tenwin family try to remember it as a tenwin family name. So fat or two fatas two kas or two dhamas can be called you know part of the tenwin family. These are nonvowled noon used by the Arabs on the end of the nouns when continuing reading but not stopping. So it is pronounced but it is not written. Okay, it's written symbol is doubling the hara. Okay, so I want you to take this in for a little bit. So here they're saying what is tenwin? So we just looked at the understanding of what is non sakin tenwin is a nonvowed noon okay used by the Arabs on the end of nouns okay so tenwin comes when when there's a noun right so when do we read that non vowel noon only when we are continuing Okay. But when do we not read that non vowel noun? When we are stopping. Okay. So for example, if you look at this word, right? Or actually let's look at this one. Okay. It's a little bit easier. So you have Okay. So here we have right. Okay. So if I'm continuing I'm going to read it. I'm going to say right and then whatever word that comes after it. But let's say I want to stop here. Will I say the noon uh second in there? No. Right. What happens when I'm stopping? And again if you're a beginner you're not sure. Don't worry. Inshallah you will catch up with this you will say right you will say b right h yes exactly what happens to it the the both of theat they go right and you're left with you're left with just with a okay when you're stopping on this word you're left with a right Now tell me is this something different than the actual sakin we learned earlier right? What's the difference now between tenwin and anun that you see? That's right. Yes. Yes. There's a difference. Right. So here when you're stopping what happened to the noon second? Did it stay or was it removed? It's gone. Right. it it's gone. So that's why is separate. It's mentioned separately from the because if you think about it, we could have said no in our rules, right? Why was there a need to separate from that? Okay? Because in when we're continuing, you're going to say, but if you're stopping, you're going to say, right? you are stopping and then the noon is gone. Okay? So versus sorry. Okay. Does that make sense? And that is the case for all of the tenwines. Yes. The stopping rules are different compared to if let's say we had a noon sackin like a visible noon sackin. Okay. So let me just quickly show you the noon before. I wish I had some examples here. Um, is this? That's a good question. So again, we have to look at does it change the meaning, right? Okay. So, what did we say about the noon? Will the nonaken ever ever be removed if you see it in a word? No. Right? We gave the example of the word, right? Uh whether you're continuing, whether you're stopping, you will always always read the second, right? But in the case of right, what happens that when you're continuing, you are reading the noun, right? That's represented by the second hara, right? But when you're stopping, then it goes away. Okay? And that's part of the reason you can you can say that Arabs are very smart, right? They didn't put the in here like they didn't because see if you were to say like this. Um, sorry, I'm going to write it a little bit more clear. Let's say this word was written like this in the Quran. Just giving just give you so let's say it was written like this. Okay. Okay. So instead of like two two double right you have on the meme and a second. See what do you think the problem here is when I'm stopping. Can I uh can I just remove the noon? Yes. Exactly. I can't just remove the noon. Right. I would have to read it exactly. I have to read it as I see it. Okay? You can't just not read letters without any like you know specific reasons. So if the noon with the sukun was there then you would have to read it as is. But you see because the way tenwin is written right because the way tenwin is written what happens these these harat they are removed and then you have a sukun. So then you say okay. So uh that is okay. Tenwin has different rules of stopping uh than if let's say you had seen the noon uh the noon that was there. Okay. Okay. Any questions so far regarding trying to clear this. Um yes. Uh so the the difference between the two is uh compared if you compare it to the noon saken is first of all the way they're written. Okay. So noon you see the noon it has a sukun very nice tenuin. uh we pronounce the noon but we don't write it. All right? And we pronounce we read it when we're continuing and we don't read it when we're stopping. Okay. So that that that's very that's going into grammar but yes m very nice and interesting ideas there I think. Uh so is everybody clear on that? Right. So for example um we look a little bit more details. Uh yes sister I definitely can repeat it again. Okay so in when we're looking at we have to look at a you know any word in the Quran right that has a sak what do we do? We read it right? We see it we read it. Okay so hold on. I'm going to try to see if I can get um a word uh so that inshallah um just just so that you can see an example in front of you. Okay. Okay. So let's say you just did the word um in ia number four. Okay. So this is the example I'm going to give. Okay. But again uh sister Maren like just in one second. So what you're saying, you know, the noon would not have a sukun right away, right? It it's only when you're stopping. So just give me a moment. I'm So we have the word unzil. I'm not going to apply the rule here. That's on the noon second. Okay, here we go. Okay, so what now? There's a second here, right? So, am I going to read the second? Definitely. Am I going to um ever remove it from a word if I'm stopping on it? No. Right. Um I think uh we talked about another word as well uh where it is coming at the end. Right? I'm going to try to see if there's an example here from your your lesson perhaps. Yes, I have an example. Right? Right. I'm not sure if you have done ay number eight. Right? So you have man, right? the the word men. Okay. So, if you can uh Yes, very good. But I'm I'm just trying to see a word that's at the end. So, men. Okay. So, if if I'm continuing, will I read read the second men? Right. Yes. Right. Now, if I stop on this word, oh, sorry. Okay. Sister. So, you will see this example today. Now, if you're stopping on this word, you will say men, right? So, in both cases, whether it's coming in the middle or whether it's coming at the end, you're going to be reading the noun and it's never going to go away because you see it. Okay. Now, in the case of tenwin, okay, in the case of tenwin, what did we learn? That we we can hear the sakin, right? We can hear it but we don't see it. Right? And the and the second hara tells us that there is a noon sack in here. So in the red. Okay. And what happens to that noon sacken when we are stopping? In the case of tenwin it is gone. Yes. It's gone. Right. when we're stopping uh you don't hear the noon second. Okay, very good point sister Aisha. Inshallah I'm going to show that to you in the next slide. Okay, you will get your answer. Okay, so for the sister who was asking the question, do you understand? So this is this is what the Arabs did. Okay, this is this is how the Arabs uh you know that's what they did for nouns, right? Nouns that are you know uh words that are nouns. this. Yes, absolutely. Okay. So, right now we're just looking at a default version will become if we're stopping it will become and so the stopping for the two fatas is a little bit different. Okay. um uh it's the only one that has you know that we stretch uh but the others will take a sukun when we're stopping okay so that is tenwine why so that sister s comes under the rules of stopping okay that's how we stop for fat two fatas okay that's the rules of stopping for the two for for fat or two fatas okay it's it's very unique It only happens for fat. Okay. So, here we are. I have actually I have actually um changed this to you know the way you would pronounce it. Okay. So, you can see it where the noun is. So, again, we're still talking about tenwin. A single letter is not vowelled by more than one vowel at the same time. Okay. So this is in I'm going to come to this point what what that what that means when we see two haras on a single letter it means the first hara is of the letter and the second represents penwin. Okay. So let's go ahead and look at what they're talking about. So let's look at this one. Okay. Actually let's look at Yeah, that's fine. We'll look at this one. Uh so don't worry about the al if for now. Just remember that fat is whenever there's two fatas it's mostly written with the al if okay we'll talk about that inshallah in in our upcoming classes. Um it always does that. Okay. Now when we are going to be because it it doesn't do that for the case of Hamza and there's another reason for that but in any case we are going to not look at that right now we're just focusing on what makes this a tenwine okay so what they're saying is that anytime you see two two harakas on a letter so for example which letter would you like to pick we'll take that take that as an example any letter can anybody give me a letter Okay, letter. Okay. Okay. Meme is nice as well. Okay. Scene. Okay. I'm going to pick meme because we've already done ba. So, so meme. Okay. Now, if I put let's say uh two dummas on it, right? So, I have two dummas. Okay. I mean, let's let's just try to copy this one here. So they're facing the same direction. So I have moon. Okay. Now does that mean that I'm going there's two das on it? Like because I'm saying there's two das on it. But what about the sound? Right? It's not going to be like m like it's not like adding an extra sound to it. Do you get it? Like for example, if you're saying, right? So let's say you have me with a right. What's the sound here? What do we say here? we say moo right very good now if I've added another dma to that right it's not going to be like I'm saying moo right something like that I don't know or I'm not saying move right if I put like an extra dhamma to that right it doesn't mean that I'm like kind of saying the sound again does that make sense so what they're saying is that the second hara is not like adding another ooh sound to the me that That's not happening. Okay. So, all they're saying here is that the first hara is the actual sound. It's is the actual hara for the letter. So, moo, right? So, when we're looking at the letter me, the first hara is is the actual hara on the letter moo. Okay. Now, if we're adding the second hara, which is second dma, what does that dma represent then for us? The second one. Yes, very good. Not just not just any any non but a no with a and here it's it's being it's representing the tenwin. Okay. So that's how it's classified. So I'm going to use a different color here. So the second is for what? It is to show that there is. Okay. or a noon with a sukun. So if I was to write this the way we the way we pronounce it, we would say uh sorry just give me a moment. So it would be so meme uh the the first hara is for the actual meme moo and then the second hara tells us that it is a noon with a sukun. Okay, does that uh make sense to everybody? So equals, right? But we uh so that that's it. That's it everybody. That's all the lesson we're going to do today. So that way inshallah you so this is the basically the foundation of uh the rules of and okay. So if we look here is right. So now you know right that and mah actually I was very impressed that a there was like few of you here who knew this already which is I I don't come across many people who know this from before. So very nice but I hope that this concept is clear to everybody. Okay now now that we have now we understand no I mean I don't know I don't know if they have done it that's right so it might be from different courses but now we learn that we have also um once we know what noun and tenwin are then we are going to look at different letters. Okay. So we have each Arabic letter you know in the Arabic alphabet that gives us different information. It gives us information on what rule to apply for the orin. Okay. So each Arabic letter from these 29 Arabic letters. So we have and so all these letters uh gives us some clue not all of them some of them are stretchy letters so we we they won't give us clues but anytime any of these letters come after then we have to apply some sort of rule and inshallah we're going to cover that first rule next week okay um but inshallah before that we're going to look at the articulation point of the letter noon. For example, where does the letter noon come from? Okay, sister zoh in I will uh I will explain that. Okay, lamb alif. The reason why it comes like this is because to show the al if okay so it's it's really written here for the sake of the al if because al if cannot come on its own is always written with some other letter okay so that's why but in we will just ignore that one we will just look at the slam okay very good tip of the tongue excellent so here you will see that the letter noon inshallah I want you to in if you can please try to make a diagram diagram of this this is in your notes I mean it's uploaded so please in your notes please make this diagram for the letter noon so the letter noon is our tip of our tongue will touch our gums here the you know the top gum area and there will be nasalization there will be sound coming from our nose as well yes so tip of the tongue touches the top gum excella and sister Megan And sister Aisha, yes, you can do it any way you like as long as you have put in these two things that our tip of our tongue is touching the gum area of our top gums. Okay? And there is nasalization from our nose. So there's two places that the sound is coming from. Okay? So this is the um and this is very very important to remember. Inshah if you can please try to memorize this that would be amazing. the articulation point of the letter noon. Okay, sure. Um, a dot like for example, do you want me to circle it or something? So, inshallah. So, this is the main area right here. Point of contact. Okay. So, letter noon, you have to take your tongue and touch your gums right here. And then there is sound flowing from the nasal passage as well. So there's two things that are included in here. Number one, tip of the tongue with what lies opposite to it of the gums. Little below letter lamb. Um again, you don't have to put this part if you don't want to, but you can. Okay? Because it's very close to the letter lamb uh in terms of articulation point and it's accompanied by from the nasal passage. Okay. So, uh there are two things that go into the articulation point of the letter N. Okay. Not just the tongue but also the nose. So, tongue and your nose. Okay, sounds good. So, everybody for your participation and again you have this template already uploaded onto your portal. So please go ahead and look at that. Yes, that's fine as well. Sister Z, you can say that too. Absolutely. See you all next week. Asalamu allayikum everyone. How are we all doing today? Alhamdulillah. Alhamdulillah. I'm fine for asking. Alhamdulillah. Mashallah. Alhamdulillah. Alhamdulillah. Mashallah. Zaka pray sister for that amazing pract practical session. Mashallah. Alhamdulillah. Uh how is the recitation going on? I'm coming on. Alhamdulillah. Alhamdulillah. Good. Mashallah. Excellent. Alhamdulillah. So inshallah we'll begin. Today's lesson is surah bak ayah 18 8- 16. Um inshallah we'll begin everyone may put lot of baraka in your time. Amen. Okay. So today's lesson so we'll start with um is the basah. So are you ready with the mus and pencil? Yes is ready. Okay. So inshallah we'll begin and you can everyone. So repeat after me and press one once you're done. Okay. Shim Bismar. Raheem okay everyone. So inshallah we'll start from ayah 8. So I have marked all the counts. So what we are going to do is uh we'll uh we have nine um ayat right? Um so inshallah what we'll do we'll do the recitation first of all these um uh verses then inshallah we'll go through each ayah and see why we are doing these counts and also alhamdulillah today sistera talked about known noon and non sakin and rules right so inshallah we'll go through that also inshallah okay sounds good okay so inshallah we'll start from ayah 8. So we'll uh we'll do it in one stretch. Inshallah we'll try to do that. So when we are stopping here we are going to do four counts because we are putting a sukun here. Okay. And today's lesson right noon noon sakin right there is no uh only there is no har on that right. So when you're stopping we do it m but we are continuing we are doing my my okay and also here also there's a rule coming so okay and nasalization of noon we say it okay we are pausing for some time like an okay we'll do ayah Eight. [Music] meaning now I am nine. So ay n what we can do is we'll stop after okay then we'll continue from again wama okay so when we are stopping here uh what do you think what how much stretch how we going to do this one yes mashallah because of the sukun right yeah two when we are continuing because then we are not putting any sukun here right sister gazala okay so inshallah we'll talk about it after we are done with the recitation. So we'll stop here. When we are stopping, we are doing four. And we are continuing we are doing two. Yes. Mah. Very good. Alhamdulillah. Moon and start from OM. [Music] Oh, it's G, not nine. It's G there. Like G. Okay. So next ayah ay 10. So ay 10. Alhamdulillah today right. So this is a so when we stop it it'll become like a two count. Okay. It'll be mar like that. Okay. So we stop here then complete the restation after that. Be him. I continue. Which one? It's two. It's like a natural lengthening. Inshallah, we'll talk about it after our recitation. Now I 11. Again I 11 we can stop here after palu. So when you stop we are doing it two. Okay but when you are continuing because of the hamza right we are going to do it four. So when you stop it is two but continuing it'll be four. We do fill out the continue. Now I add 12. So there is a WA here. It's G WA. So you are going to do nasalization here. And because we are stopping, we are stretching for focus. Yes. Now ay 13. So I 13 is little big. So what we'll do? We'll stop again. Again the same rule. When you're stopping it is two. But when you are continuing it's four because of the hamza. So after that you can see again a madwave and hamsa. Right? Again we are doing it for because of the hamza. Okay. And oh can can you hear me really? Okay then can you hear me? Okay. Alhamdulillah. Uh then um when you are stopping here we are putting a sukun on hamsa. Right. So we are going to raise um your voice a little bit more so that the listener can uh understand that there is a hamza. Okay. So when you stop here you do okay little bit of voice raising. Okay. So we'll stop here. Uh then then again complete the recitation. [Music] Okay. Now continue. When you're continuing it's four. Okay. for [Music] an okay continue [Music] Now I am 14 again same we'll stop at Aloo and you're stopping you're doing two and continuing you're doing four count or because Hamza okay and there's a good here in here also there's a good Amen when Continue. We do four count of stress here. Yeah, we can we can we can it's better to stop at and continue. Okay. A ayah 15. Oh yeah. Him last ayah. So what we are doing here is we are going to stop it. Right? Can you see uh two same ts right? Two same letters. So what are we doing? We are going to completely merge this T to here. So from H we completely completely merging to T after bilhuda. Yes. Yes. Of course. So stop here then continue. Uh not from here after stop it. Okay, this is the better place to start. Inshallah. [Music] Then start from FMA. Daddy. Alhamdulillah. Mashallah everyone for the participation. Alhamdulillah. So, so now we'll go through uh why we are doing uh two in some of them and we are stretching more than two in others. Okay. So, the the two is called a natural lengthening. So, so when we see the letters right alif, wow or yeah, yes. So, these letters there is no haraka on on them. Okay. There is no haraka on them. And you can see a fata before al if a bhma before wow and a kasra before yah. What are what are we going to do? We are going to lengthen it for two counts. And alhamdulillah sister talked about the timing of the counts, right? It's depend upon the speed of your recitation, right? So just follow the reciter and uh practice the timing. But when you see these letters right without haraka and the matching the without haraka matching signs then you are going to do a natural lengthening. Okay that's two counts. So like here can you see a wow without a hara and before that a dhma right so how would you do it two counts here alif without an sign and before that a ka right? So a then uh yeah no sign and before it there is a kasra. So the z the right. So these are called natural lengthening. So whenever you see yes whenever you see these letters with the matching huraca you're going to do two counts. But but having said that there are other reasons why we do more than two counts. Even though this is a natural lengthening letters right alka mud letters they are called mud letters when there is no sign on it. Okay. So what what is the reason why we are doing more than two counts. One reason is that when you stop the recitation we are going to put a sukun right then this sukun becomes the reason for this knee right otherwise it is two right we are going to stretch stretch it for four because the reason is sukun got it all good sukuna yes even though the second last letter is a madya letter but we are putting a sukun at the last letter. Got it? Alhamdulillah. And there is another reason that is alhamdulillah sister already said in the last week's session. It's about this uh letter Hamza. So remember this Hamza is a special guy in our Tajit class. Okay. So uh so when you see a Hamza Oh, your audio's unclear. Can you can you hear me now? Okay. Alhamdulillah. So when you see um a hamsa before I mean after letter here this alif, right? What are we going to do? We are going to do four counts. Okay. And uh uh this is one reason right? So Hamza is the reason. All right. Okay. So two reasons now, right? One is sukun and the other one is hamsa. But so here can you see um madw and hamsa here and for letter on the last letter then four. Yes. And another sab is hamza. Yeah. It is in mashallah. Very good sister. another. Yeah. Because uh you can see the mother letter in one word and other one is on the hamsa right. Yeah. So we are separating. So when we continue because the reason is hamsa we are doing four but we are stopping we it is like a madya letter right like a natural lengthening. So it'll be two. Got it? Okay. Alhamdulillah. And sometimes we don't um do the stretching we like here Phil ar right phil stretching why because there is no um harakon right and here there is something going on and there is a lamb there is only sukun so these two you cannot connect right only a letter with the haraka can connect to the sukun right that's why we do phili not feel phils yeah So whenever you see a hamza you know before a a mud letter like this all these letters right then you are going to stretch it for four times okay that's because the reason is hamza did you get it is but when it is in the two like you know mad letter is in one word and hamza is in another word what are we going to do when we are stopped popping this will become natural lengthening but when we are continuing because we are reciting Hamza it's going to be four did you all get it okay alhamdulillah uh f okay so f just for now to make it simple make sure that for the you are connecting the haraka letter that is free to the lambsukun all others we cannot connect it Okay. Um who's the in this class we are um asking you to um follow uh shake I'm sued right this ra alhamdulillah um I think we our time is up so uh inshah inshallah um f so it's f yeah fe fill out fe fill out not fe we are not um stretching it Okay, the same right there right we are not saying we are from we are going to lamb okay alhamdulillah yeah that inshallah we'll be studying the rule that time you will know why we are doing my instead of why we are not pronouncing the no okay everyone for the participation mashallah Uh so uh do your homework inshallah and I'll see you all tomorrow inshallah uh subhan allah form. Alhamdulillah. How did you all enjoy your and recitation lessons? So I see that of for some of you it's a review. Alhamdulillah. And for some of you you're learning for the first time. Alhamdulillah. Yes. That's going well inshallah for everyone. Yes. Alhamdulillah. And did you notice that even if you studied beforeh there's always something new to learn. Uh each teacher has their different way of explaining and something will click. Alhamdulillah. Yes. Always. Right. So, Subhan Allah. Uh the blessing of gaining knowledge is that uh you always gain when you put in the time. Alhamdulillah. Yes. Excellent. Yeah. It's a little bit longer. Yes. Um but inshallah um you'll find that some of the words have repeated and uh so you already know them. Alhamdulillah. And um inshallah as we go forward these will become words that you already know and when these words come up in the next lessons you won't have to um spend so much time on them inshallah. Yes. Alhamdulillah. Yes. A little bit challenging but not impossible. And so may Allah make ease for everyone. Um and remember that every second that's being spent right is being recorded with Allah subhanaa tala right and there's no loss so when you're studying the Quran subhan allah you have the presence of angels right um it gives baraka in your day in your time and um subhan allah some of us you know sometimes we haven't studied for a long time so our brains have sort of um you know become stagnant But subhan Allah, we really wake up our brains. Alhamdulillah. Right? And the more we study, the more um our brains are able to, you know, absorb and hold, right? That's one container that does not fill up. Right? When it comes to food, you can only eat a certain amount, right? But when it comes to our brains, there's no limit, right? There's no limit, right? So inshallah let's continue to fill it with uh you know with things that are going to benefit us inshallah in this duny and in the okay perfect um no we have not had any quizzes don't worry about quizzes right now okay um inshallah I think we have enough on our plates for the moment so let's just inshallah focus on that we'll talk about quizzes in a few weeks inshallah uh Um no this class that the tips sessions are recorded. So no classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. So today's we have class and then tomorrow we have class in okay so let's come to our lesson. Alhamdulillah lesson number four. Okay. So we are going to inshallah cover surah al bakar ayat number 8 to 16. Um have you all had a chance to take a look at the class timet so you know um exactly what time is break and what time u which lectures we're going to be listening to. Yes. Okay. Good. Alhamdulillah. So it's a good idea to take a look at that so that you are um uh you know you know what's going on inshallah. Okay. So uh just a heads up sometimes the break time can be adjusted slightly depending on um you know the length of the lessons um just you know by 5 10 minutes it could uh fluctuate okay so just keep that in mind um the schedule if you go to the course portal u you go under course resources you'll find the schedule okay perfect so yes translation word analysis of right now so in we'll in uh sisteria will also cover different forms of verbs right so you have the slides you can download the slides from Quran resources um she will be going over different forms of verbs so um inshallah it'll be an interesting lesson and then you'll also have the word analysis of bakar ayat number 8 to 16 and then inshallah we'll take a break and after break we'll have the taps lesson in okay Um okay so I I see a couple of questions regarding the course so we'll do that at the end so let's get started inshallah translation first and then word analysis along with uh some discussion on verbs so let's begin ayatah bakar ayat number 8 to 16 with sisterah [Music] Inshallah we will begin lesson number four bakar 8-6. So let's do the translation first and then we will look at the word meanings and among the people is who he says we have believed in Allah and in the day the last while not whom they are at All ones who believe they try to deceive Allah Allah and those who they have believed and not they deceive except themselves. While not they perceive in their hearts is disease. So Allah increased them in disease and for them will be a punishment ever painful because they used to they lie. And when it is said to them, you all do not cause corruption. In the land, they say indeed only we are ones who reform. Verily indeed they whom they truly are those who cause corruption. But not they perceive and when it is said to them you all believe just as the people have believed they say shall we believe just as the foolish ones have believed verily in whom indeed they whom they truly are the foolish ones. But not they know. And when they meet those who they have believed they say we have believed. And when they are alone with their satanic ones, they say indeed we are with you all. Indeed only we are ones who mock Allah. He mocks back him at them and he extends them in their rebellion. They wander blindly those are those who they have purchased the misguidance in exchange for the guidance. So not it was profitable to whom their transaction and not they were ones who obtain guidance. So alhamdulillah today we are doing eight verses and like I mentioned earlier the division of or rather the length of the lessons is not based on just the number of verses but it is based on the content the theme. So even though there are more verses about this topic, this section of verses completes one discussion or one theme and this is why it's important that we study them all together. If we don't study them all together, then we won't be able to get a full picture and I want you to understand that you know the Quran Allah subhana t has made it easy for learning. Of course, it is a bit intimidating to see that all of a sudden there's so many verses, but you know, comfort yourself, assure yourself by reminding yourself that the Quran is easy for learning. And I want you to notice that you see over here, these are basically the verses that we are studying today, inshallah. And you can see over here how words are repeating over and over. So for example you have the word but then you have a very similar form. So the translation is going to overlap. You have the word and then again it comes. You have the word and then you have and you have the word coming two times. You have the word and you have the word and so yes there are a lot of words but you don't study a language by just looking at every single word on its own. You have to be able to recognize patterns so that you can recognize the different forms of the words and once you understand how you know certain patterns are then it's easy to learn the language. So here I just want you to see how the words are repeating in different forms. And here you can see for example just the word he says. So he says this is from which is to say and you can see in red how different forms of the word are coming again and again. So if you know the base meaning of the word and mashallah now you understand the concept of root letters. So once you recognize the root letters, once you recognize the base word, then all you need to know over time is the different structures, the different forms and inshallah you'll be able to recognize the word quickly. So means he says means it was said means they said it was said they said. So the words are coming repeatedly. Now one thing I mentioned to you last time is that inshallah I will introduce you to the different forms of verbs the different types of verbs over the previous classes. Alhamdulillah we have learned that verbs are make reference to time in Arabic. So you have the action happening either in the past or in the present future tense. And we also learned about how a verb also gives us the pronoun. Meaning it also tells us who is doing the action. So for example, he says who is doing the action over here? Who is speaking? What is the pronoun? He. Exactly. Right. He is singular or plural. Singular. Right. Is it first person, second person or third person? First person is I. Right. Second person is you and third person is he. Exactly. It's third person. Excellent. Is it active or passive? Meaning is someone actively doing the action or is the action being done on them? He says, he is saying active. Exactly. So, mashallah, you know, keep these things in mind. And now, let's look at all the different occurrences of this root in the passage that we are studying today. So these are the different forms of the word. The root of all of these words is and means to say to say. Now means he said. This is of course said so it's past tense. It's he so it's singular not plural. It is he not she. So it's masculine right? It is he so it's third person. Right? and it is active. Now is they said very similar. The only difference is that this is now plural. The pronoun is plural as opposed to singular. So he said they said what about means it was said very similar to the only difference is this is passive because it was said not that someone is saying the verb is telling us that something was said. So it is passive. Now this is not past tense. He says this is present. So you have present tense over here and is the plural form of that. So past tense present tense. Now you can see over here the root letter to believe. So we have over here we believed. meaning believers they believed. You all believe we believe. So different forms, different occurrences of the same root in different shapes and forms. So let's look at this word. The root is and from this you have the word eman. Eman is to believe. Now we have for example the word am he believed. This is past tense because he believed and it is he. So it's singular. It is masculine. It is third person. It is active. Right? The plural of amu. They believed. Very similar to ama. The only difference is this is plural. Now we also have ama. A means we believed. So what's happening over here? Instead of third person, it is first person because we believed and it is plural. Not I believed it is we believed. So it is plural and in Arabic this is used for both masculine and feminine. All right. So all past tense. Then we have means we believe. So this is we believe now. This is not past tense. This is present tense and we believe. So it's first person. What about amu? See this is slightly different. This is you all believe. So what's happening over here? Is this a verb of past tense or present tense? You all believe. This is not present or past. This is a command. Exactly. So now one thing new that you are learning about verbs in Arabic is that there is a third type of a verb which is called exactly imperative right or of command and this is also something that we will come across a lot in the Quran. So amu you all believe this is a command. And a very easy way to recognize this in your book is that you just see the exclamation mark right? The exclamation mark typically after a verb means that this is a and then you have the word. What is this is a noun and mashallah you are familiar with this now especially because you can see the sign of noun. What is the sign over here that we have been observing? How can we recognize this exactly? It begins with the mem. Excellent. And how do you know it's a plural? How do you know it's a plural? It ends with the yanon. Excellent. So now you can see over here in green, these are verbs of present tense. Okay? He says they deceive. They perceive. They lie. Right? So, do you see something common in the words that are in green? Do you see something common that many of them begin with the Yah, the letter Yah, [Music] right? Right. So they all begin with the yah right with the letter yah. Now some of them end with woon and some of them do not end with woon. When they end with woon what does that mean? Like for example plural. Excellent. And when it does not end with won what does that mean? Like singular. Exactly. If it was then what would it be? Would be plural. Exactly. So one thing now that you can make note of regarding verbs of present tense, okay, is that you will see that they begin with the letter Y. But one thing I want you to understand is that every word that begins with the letter Y is not necessarily a verb of present tense. Okay? Typically that you will see this that they begin with Yah. And the yah is a sign of third person. Okay? Yah is a sign of third person because you see this he says they deceive they perceive. They lie. So what do you see over here? It's all third person. Look at the word means we believe. So this is not he believes, we believe. So the noon at the beginning is an indication that this is first person plural. So basically you can see in the words that are in green, they're all verbs of present tense. And the beginning letter, okay, the beginning letter tells us about the pronoun. Okay, it tells us about the pronoun. Is it first person, second person, third person? Now inshallah I will tell you about these letters. Okay, over time I don't want to overwhelm you with too much information. For now, you can make note that when it begins with yah, yah means he. Okay, y or you means he. And if the verb ends with won, then the he turns into he turns into they. Exactly. So now when you look at a verb okay like you you understand the pattern that you he turns it into they. So they are doing something. Now what is it that they are doing? They're doing the action which the root letters are indicating. You see that they're doing the action that the root letters are indicating. So for example you have if you know that means to speak to say then he is doing the action of saying he says right you have if you remember that means to perceive. When you see the word you will know that they are doing the action of perceiving. They perceive. If you know that means knowledge to know means they know, right? So, alhamdulillah, Arabic is very easy to learn. Especially the language of the Quran is very easy to learn and be patient with yourself. And what I would encourage you to do is do your best in memorizing the word for word translation. Do it to the best of your ability. Do it consistently. And I'm telling you by the end of Bakar, inshallah the translation will be very easy for you. Inshallah. And then you will also be able to understand the words of the hadith and you'll be able to, you know, pick up words from everyday Arabic as well. Inshallah. So gradually you will recognize these patterns and I hope inshallah that we will also study grammar separately so that you know you can study these rules independently and you know you can practice more. Right now I just want you to be able to understand the points that I'm telling you so that the memorization of the translation is easy for you inshallah. Okay. So we covered the words in green. Now let's look at the words in blue. Now the words in blue are all verbs of past tense. Okay? They're all verbs of past tense. Now you see here we believed they believed. The hamza is of the root. It was said he believed. So these verbs you can see that they don't begin with yah. Okay? Even though many of these verbs are of third person, they don't begin with yah. So when you see the yah you know it is present tense. All right. Now the verbs in pink these are verbs of command. Okay. These are verbs of command. So you have you all believe this is a positive command. You do this. You do not cause corruption. Right? So this is a prohibition. Do not do this. So we have three kinds of verbs. Okay, we have three kinds of verbs basically in Arabic. You have which is the verb of past tense. Okay, we have which indicates present and future. Okay, so doesn't just tell you about now. Sometimes it is also used for future. And then you have which is a verb of command. And there is an exclamation mark at the end to make it very clear that this is a command. It doesn't mean that someone's yelling, okay, or that someone is speaking very loudly. It's just an indication that this is not just a verb of past tense or present. This is a verb of command. Okay? So far, you can see the examples over here from your lesson. You can also see the examples from your lesson. And you can see the examples. Okay. Now a quick recap. Earlier I told you about nouns, right? I don't want you to forget the nouns. I want you to notice the nouns over here as well. I told you that one sign of a noun is that it begins with al if which means the. So you can see over here some words they begin with al the an the people. Al the day al the last right al the land. So you can see many words in our lesson they begin with and then you have over here they end with so when a word ends with double okay like also I forgot to do this one this is also an indication that it is a noun okay and then you have the words in red meaning these are people, ones who believe, ones who do, ones who cause corruption, ones who mock, ones who are guided. So yes, the quantity is a lot, meaning there are lots of words in today's lesson. The length is a lot. But if you try to understand every word and you understand, you recognize the rules, the patterns, then inshallah, learning the lesson will not be difficult for you. But be patient with yourself. It's okay if you struggle and allow yourself that you know what, we are only on the fourth lesson. If I don't understand everything, it's okay. Alhamdulillah, I'm going to learn more and with time it's going to get easier inshallah. Okay, so let's go over the word for word again. W and among min means from and it also means among. So among an people anas this is from the root letters or hamza and inshallah we'll talk about what it means right now during this session. I want you to write down the root letters in your book. Okay? So that inshallah when we're doing the tap and I tell you the meanings all you need to do is just fill in those blanks or you know make note right next to the root letters. So ask the people. So among the people is who says now men look at this word min means among and man means who there is a difference right? So mean from or among and man is who there's a difference with a means among and me with a fat means who now this is why you know that it is so important to recite the Quran properly right because if you change just one right you just change one not even the letter you just change the sound you change the And one of the best ways of making sure that you are reciting correctly is to recite slowly. Especially these days in Ramadan, you know, we have certain goals that every day I want to be able to recite a certain amount of the Quran. And sometimes we rush to complete and in rushing we start making so many mistakes. So to avoid those mistakes, don't just wait for that time when you will be perfect. All right? Rather go slowly. Recite the Quran with measured recitation. Meaning pay attention to every letter, every sound. So who says this is from the root letters? What do they say? They say we have believed. Now means he believed and we have believed. You see the difference? The na means we. And this is from the root letters. We have believed in Allah. Okay. The question, why are there two sets of root letters for the word anas? This is a very good question. In Arabic, you will notice this that sometimes for certain words there are multiple opinions. Okay? Why? Because both convey a different meaning. So for example, anas it is said that it's from the root letters. Nasia means to forget. So anas this is the category of the creation that tends to forget. All right? Meaning human beings naturally forget. Okay. And then an it is also said this is from Hamza and un means to be sociable. So people by definition need to socialize need to interact and engage with one another. So basically the root origin helps us understand the meaning of the word. Okay. And for some words there are different opinions. Some linguists say that the word is from a certain set of root letters and other linguists have a different opinion and both are correct. Okay. And by the way there are more understandings as well of the word anaz that it's from a different set of root letters but for now two are sufficient inshallah. So among the people are those who say that we have believed in Allah and mashallah you recognize this letter B in they say that we also believe in the day the last. Now the last this is a description of the word in the day which day the last day. So this is the adjective the last. All right. So the last day and which day is this? The day of judgment. Right. So this is from this is from. So they say we believe in Allah and the last day. But the fact is that while not. Now you notice that we are translating as while. Okay. We are translating W as while not and. And. This is also something that you should know that the letter W does not always mean and sometimes it also gives a sense of the present state. Okay, the the present condition. So they say that we believe in Allah in the last day while in reality the present state is that not they are at all believers. They're not at all true believers. So while not whom they are at all believers. Now is a singular of the word and over here gives a sense of at all. Right? So they are not at all ones who believe or believers. In your book you have ones who believe. Same thing believers. And this is from they try to deceive. Now he deceives or he tries to deceive and they try to deceive. You recognize now where the they is coming from and this is from the root letters. Who do they try to deceive? These people they try to deceive Allah. Who else? And those who which people they have believed they try to deceive Allah and they also try to deceive those who have believed this is he believed they have believed from the root letters. So they try to deceive Allah and the believers and not they deceive except and themselves. So not they deceive except themselves. They only end up deceiving themselves. Now do you notice over here that this is and previously at the beginning of the ayah we read the word What is common in these two words? In the translation of these two words. Okay, good. They because we know the pronoun. We see the and the w. All right, so this is common. The second thing is deceive, right? Is to deceive. So we have in the translation deceive. But for we have additional meaning try to right we have try to and for just they deceive. So what is the difference in the Arabic between these two words and in there is al if there's a standing fat exactly. So remember this rule additional letters more letters. Okay. Means more meaning. When there's more letters, there will be more meaning. And what I mean by more letters is letters besides the letters of the root and the letters of the verb. You need the form of the verb. So here we have the al if extra. So that gives the meaning of try to. So not deceive and except themselves. is the plural of nuffs means oneself together themselves. Okay, they perceive. This is from the root letters and while not they perceive. Now notice over here first we have and not. The second w is while not. Is there a difference? and not while not. Okay. Question. Does the standing al if on a verb always give the meaning of try to? Not always. Okay. Not always but many times. Yes. Okay. And inshallah because you see the Arabic language is so vast. If I tell you about you know what the standing alif always conveys or the different meanings that it conveys then that would be too much right? So I will tell you based on what we have in the verses, okay? Because our goal here is to understand the meaning of the Quran and learning Arabic, appreciating Arabic, that is a side benefit. Okay? In this course, the goal is not to make you Arabic experts. The goal is to make you understand the meaning of the Quran, inshallah. So here we have and not and while not. Even though the word in the Arabic is the same but the translation is different. And that shows us that when we understand the meaning of the words of the Quran, we cannot look at the words in isolation. Okay? We have to look at the context. Yeah. So I'm explaining the meaning of why not that you have to look at the context. The context will tell you whether a word is giving one meaning or another. And this is true in every language. And this is the reason why especially when you are translating you know expressions from one language to another. You cannot do a literal translation. If you do a literal translation it'll turn out to be very funny. Right? It's not going to convey the right meaning. You know, like that um sign that someone shared of a chicken slaughter house, the chicken murder place, something like that. So, instead of the word slaughter, they had the word murder. It sounds so brutal. And I'm sure you have seen things like that, you know, where there's a poor translation. Somebody literally just opened a dictionary or an app or Google translate, put the word, looked at the, you know, translation and they put that in. You can't do that with the Quran, right? So this is why you will notice that the translation is not always identical because we have to look at the context. So here why is the first wa and not because they try to deceive Allah and those who believe and the fact is that they're only deceiving themselves and while they are deceiving themselves they don't even perceive that they don't even realize. So is from is the root hearts is disease is a plural of is hearts is the root and disease. So now do you see in parenthesis there is an is over here and I mentioned to you earlier about how the ending of the words of the nouns tells us what the place of that word is in the sentence. So we're not asking you to figure that out in the parenthesis. have done that work for you so that you understand how the words connect with each other. How the sentence is coming together because we have to look at the words and we also have to look at the sentence. So in their hearts is disease. What happens to that disease? Allah increased them in disease is the verb and it's from the root letters. Zada means increase. So zada he increased. Who increased Allah who? So Allah increased them in disease and for them will be a punishment ever painful. Now here is describing remember in the previous verses we have a great ever great punishment. Here this is ever painful punishment from and from why a painful ever painful punishment because now look at this be and ma. Earlier we learned be means in or with. But here we are translating it as because again we cannot look at the words in isolation. The meaning of the word is determined by context as well. If we were to say with what would that make any sense and for them will be a painful punishment with what they used to lie that would actually give a very wrong meaning. It seems like the lying is the punishment. So this is why you have to pay attention to how the words are translated and can they used to can means he was canu they used to they lie. Now you see over here they lie is bolded that's what you're expected to memorize not what is in the parenthesis. What is in the parenthesis inshallah I will talk about this at another time. Be ones who why is it there? We will talk about that. It's going to come a lot. And this is also something that I want you to understand that it's possible that I don't explain everything in one class. Okay? Like there's a lot of grammar etc that I'm overlooking here because knowledge has to be learned gradually. Okay? And the words of the Quran are such that they are often repeated. So if something gets missed now, don't worry. If you don't understand something right now, don't worry. Inshallah it will be covered again. Inshallah it will come again and you will learn at that time inshallah. This is from and when it is said now do you notice something strange over here? It was slash is said is something strange and it is said is bolded. So remember that you know we've established something which is that the meaning of words is also determined by their context. Okay. The meaning of words is also determined by context. Now on its own is actually a verb of past tense. It literally means it was said. So it is actually a verb of past tense. It's very mildy. However, when a verb of past tense comes after either, you see, it changes the tense of the verb from past to present future. So, not when it was said, but when it is said, meaning every time that it is said to them. Okay? So this is why we have done this in the translation that the literal translation is there but then after the slash the contextual translation is there. It is said what are you expected to memorize? You are expected to memorize the contextual translation meaning that which is in bold because it's not fair if you were expected to memorize both. The goal over here the goal of the translation is to understand the meaning of the verse. So the contextual meaning will take a precedence over literal meaning. And you know there's two types of translations. One type of translation is literal word by word. The other type of translation is contextual. You know that when translation is done word by word it can come across as completely incorrect. If you are bilingual, I'm sure this happens that you know sometimes poor translations give completely, you know, opposite meaning or a wrong meaning. So the contextual meaning will always be given preference over literal meaning. Okay? And whenever you'll find it confusing like what's going on over here, you will notice that in your book at the bottom of the page there is the running translation as well. So you can read the full sentence to understand what's happening. So when it is said to them, you all do not cause corruption in the land. Now one question, where's the you all coming from? Why is it plural? How do we know it's a plural? There's a trick question. We haven't done this, but you should be able to recognize. Excellent. Mashallah. The wow, right? The plural is coming from there. Where is the u coming from? To the at the beginning. The root letters are okay. So do not cause corruption. You all do not cause corruption in the land from the root letters. Okay. Is there an assumed pronoun in it? Are you asking about the it as opposed to he? Remember I mentioned earlier that every verb gives you a pronoun. So basically you know things in Arabic have a gender even inanimate things. And this is common in many languages in French even in Udu and I don't know about other languages but you know even inanimate things have a gender. So the table you know when you refer to it it's either a masculine or a feminine right based on that you will use the verbs. Okay. So technically this is masculine but we translate as it to indicate that it's not referring to a person. So when it is said to them, do not cause corruption in the land they say. Now you notice again over here technically is they said it's past tense but in the context it means they say because it's coming after. So when it is said to them when it is said to them do not cause corruption in the land. They say indeed only we are ones who make reforms. Now indeed only this is a common word you will come across this many times and it basically gives the meaning of that only this. So indeed only we means we and this is a pronoun and the singular of this is means I we. So they say indeed we are only ones who make reforms. This is plural of from the root letter verily indeed. This is and whom remember the word from same from the beginning is applying to the verb that's coming after. So they truly are those who cause corruption plural of is the root. But they [Music] perceive. We did this word earlier as well. And when it is said, now you see the same words are coming again. And when it is said to them means he said, they said, he says it was said and it is said. When it is said to them, you all believe. Now notice over here amu. What if the word was with a fat on the mean? What would that mean? Au means they believed. All right means you all believe. So again the difference is just of one or the meaning changes. So notice the as well. Okay. You one person believe you all all of you folks believe just as the people have believed. Okay. Now literally means he believed but here is doing the action of this is why we have put this together. The people have believed they say. Now why is this being translated as they? Because this is coming again it's connected with okay then they say shall we believe look at the word a shall this is a question we believe is the root so when they're told that believe just as the people have believed they say shall we believe just as the foolish ones have believed So ammon is the plural of the word is the root. Now you notice this sometimes the plural forms are very simple. Okay? You have a w at the end or a yan at the end. Very easy. But other times, you know, there's a huge difference between the singular and the plural. You have and so there's simple plurals and then there are complicated plurals. Okay. They truly are the foolish ones. Plural of they do not know. They know this is from and when they meet. Now again you see what's happening. Why is they met being changed into they meet? Why are we changing the tense? Exactly. Mashallah. because of the and they meet it's plural. Okay means he met they met. So when they meet who? These people who say that they believe but they're not actually believers. When they meet those who have believed they say now again this is the meaning is changing from said to say because of it's connected with they say we have believed okay and when they are alone with why is it they are and not they were because of good and means means they were alone. Okay? And this is a preposition in Arabic. And you will notice that sometimes the prepositions are with the verbs. Why? Because they give a certain meaning to the verb. So is to be alone with literally means to or to words. But we don't literally translate it or we don't give it the meaning of to words over here because in Arabic makes sense with in English the word to words does not make sense with to be alone with. So this is why we've put it as they are alone with and this is from the root letters. So when they're alone with their is a plural of and this is from the root letters and as in they're satanic ones they say why is it they say because of they say indeed we are with you all. Look at the word ina. We looked at just on its own that means indeed. Means indeed we like indeed we have given you the. So with an al if means indeed we. So they say indeed we are with you all. Means with means you all. Like in What does that mean? Peace be on you all. You say means you one person means you all plural. So they say indeed we are with you all indeed only are ones who mock is a plural of and the root is all right. So one who mocks ones who mock Allah he mocks back him at them. Now look at the word this is a verb and this is a noun right? So Allah mocks back at them and he extends them is the verb over here is the root means and whom means them. Mashallah you know that. So he extends them in their rebellion is rebellion him theirs. So their rebellion this is the root letters. Yeah, they wander blindly. The w indicates it's a plural means he wanders blindly. They wander blindly. Is the root are those who they have purchased. How do we know it's they? Because of the wow. If it was, it would mean he purchased. They have purchased. And this is from so they have purchased what the misguidance remember the word. So same root. So they have purchased misguidance in exchange for the guidance. So with is giving the meaning of in exchange for over here. And that's why you have to memorize what's bolded and from the root letters meaning they gave they gave up guidance so that they could take misguidance it was profitable is from to be profitable. So it was not profitable to whom their transaction trade transaction is the root and not ones who obtain guidance plural of is the root. So alhamdulillah we've gone over all of the words inshallah in the I'm going to tell you more about the meaning of the words and of course the meaning of the verses as well inshallah. So let's listen to the recitation of these verses before we begin the taps. And um while the recitation is being set up, you can all stand up where you are so that you can freshen up. We've been in this class for almost an hour. So stand up and quietly listen to the recitation and try to understand the words to recognize the words to the best of your ability. [Music] [Music] Why? [Music] Fore! Foreign! Foreign! [Music] [Music] for [Music] [Music] Allah [Music] [Music] Hey. Alhamdulillah. Um, yes. How did you enjoy the lesson? A bit much. Easy. Enjoyed it. Good. Alhamdulillah. Good. Alhamdulillah. Clear. Alohab. Okay. So, I know um good but fast. Yes, it was a little bit fast. Alhamdulillah, it was helpful to understand the grammar. A little bit hard. Yes. So, if you found it hard, I'm going to really encourage you to relisten to this lesson, right? Just this at least this part of the recording. Uh just relisten to it. You have the slides. Alhamdulillah. um just relisten to it and inshallah it'll be much more understandable the second time, right? You'll understand it better the second time. A first time uh especially if they're new concepts, it's a little bit hard to understand. Okay? But uh listen to it again. Okay? Just make it a point to listen to it once again before you start to memorize the word to word translation. Okay? And then you'll find that, you know, you're going to pick out patterns and you're going to be able to um inshallah find little um clues and tips for you to be able to inshallah um you know, translate much easier. Yes, it will be repeated and definitely it's going to get easier once you listen to the taps. Okay. So, one thing I would highly highly um you know emphasize is that if you try to memorize the word to word translation without listening to the taps first, it's way way harder. Okay? It's way way harder if you you know if you try to sit down and just memorize word to word translation without listening to the taps. So whatever it is um you know whatever you found a little you know complicated or difficult if you found something in that way inshallah when you go through the taps right then these things will repeat and it will clarify right it'll clarify everything and then you go back and listen to this recording and inshallah um it will be you know much much more clear okay so you know pro tip I don't know what you want to call it do not try to memorize the word to word translation without listening to the tsia There's a huge huge difference in how you can retain it if you've heard the taps because then it becomes uh you know like a passage that connects together versus individual words that you're trying to memorize um like a vocabulary list, right? Okay. Yes. Alhamdulillah. Yeah. So, everyone had to start somewhere, right? Every one of us were new to this at one point and um then it became easier. Alhamdulillah. Absolutely. Yes. Be kind to yourselves. Yeah, very good point. When you first start, you don't even understand where the words begin or end, right? Alhamdulillah. So, um and another thing is do take full advantage of our study channel, okay? Uh you have the recordings, the word recordings. So play those over and over until you know they become very very familiar and inshallah all of these resources are there to make it easy for yourself. Okay. So take advantage of every single resource and inshallah with you know you'll look back in a two or three months and you know you're going to be surprised inshallah at how much you've uh retained how much you have progressed inshallah. Um the taps, yeah, the taps assignment is open book. Okay. But the translation quizzes that are basically similar to your group sessions, you know, where you have the word toear translation and root word, singular, all of these things are closed book. Okay. Yes, they are typed. Yes. Okay. No, they're not oral. They're uh they're going to be multiple choice questions on the portal. You're going to open up a quiz and you're going to inshallah take the quiz. Okay? Don't worry about the minutes right now. Okay? Don't stress yourself out over something that is not here yet. Focus on now. Focus on today. Okay? No quiz today. So, don't worry about the quiz. Inshallah, are you feeling like your kids, Michelle? Alhamdulillah. Um, Maria, are you new to the course? Yes, absolutely. So, enjoy the learning. Don't worry about the exams. And the exams are only there uh to help you. Okay? The exams are there to help you so that you know that you have actually you know memorized this and you know where do you need to put in a little more effort and inshallah it'll help you retain and when you listen to those ayat anywhere anytime inshallah it'll all come flooding back. Yes. Inshallah, inshallah, Allah will um inshallah be with everyone. Okay. Alhamdulillah. Yes. Inshallah. Okay. So, if you're new um please do listen to or watch we can say our orientation class recordings. Okay. And join a group. Okay. Join a group and inshallah everything will make sense very quickly. Okay. Um yes, please uh do both of those things. Inshallah you'll be right on track with everyone. Okay. Um so recordings will be posted within a few hours inshallah. So you know maximum say 12 hours after class is over inshallah. Okay. So you can just plan around that. Okay. Perfect. Okay. So who's ready for a break now? Yes. Okay. Alhamdulillah. So let's take a break. Um inshallah when you return from break um then we will have our taps of these uh lessons of these ayat and then inshallah everything will become clearer and we'll also have a recap of uh the lesson. Okay. Okay. Okay. So 30 minutes uh from now. So check your clocks. I believe it's 30 minutes after the hour and so um inshallah it'll be easy to calculate. Okay. Okay. Perfect. Alhamdulillah. Okay. So um Okay. So if you're new just inshallah when our next for now take a break and when our next session comes up just uh take notes on whatever you find um to be interesting something you think is important just make a note of that and inshallah once you listen to the orientation recording and then you will join your groups then inshallah everything will be um much easier. Okay, perfect. Welcome, welcome to the course. Um, don't worry, just enjoy today. Um, just and then inshallah once you do the uh recordings and join a group inshallah everything will become clear. Okay, so don't stress. Okay, just enjoy. Okay, everyone. See you back in 30 minutes. Happy. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Alhamdulillah. Alhamdulillah. [Music] Alhamdulillah. Inshallah you're going to pray soon. Okay. Subhan Allah. So we see different time zones. Someone's praying. Someone's having breakfast. Subhan Allah. Amazing. Alhamdulillah. That Allahh has united us here together uh from all corners of the world. Subhan Allah. Alhamdulillah. Okay. So, who is ready to inshallah dive into the taps of these ayat? So, mashallah, you learned the words, you learned about um the various you know structures of the words, the roots. Yes. Okay. Alhamdulillah. So let's get in. Yes. Let's get to work. Yes. Now we will have taps inshallah. No sunnah is on the on the schedule for tomorrow. Okay. So today we will have duas inshallah. Okay. Alhamdulillah. Okay. So let's begin. We're going to have the tap of these ayat that we've studied already. Bakra ayat number 1 to 16 with sister. Let's begin. We ask Allah subhana t for guidance. that oh Allah guide us to the straight path. Guide us along the straight path. And the straight path is the path of those people that you, oh Allah, are pleased with, that you have bestowed your favor upon, people that you are happy with. We want to be on their path, on their way. We want to follow their footsteps and reach the destination that they reached. Inah right at the beginning Allah subhah tells us that this book is for guidance. If you want if you want haya then believe in this book follow this book because there is no doubt in the fact that this book is it is guidance but it is guidance for [Music] who? So we learned about the first category of people who are the true believers those who are conscious of Allah and these are the people who are upon guidance and they are the people who are successful. Then we learned about the second category of people who are deniers. Those who disbelieve, those who reject. And we learned that such people will have a great punishment. You are not successful at all. They're not upon guidance at all. And now verses 8 onwards we learn about the third category of people who on the outward on the surface they appear to be like the believers because they say that they believe but in their hearts they are like the second category meaning the disbelievers because in their hearts they don't actually believe. So they're kind of a mix between the first and the second group. On the outward they show iman. They say that they believe but in their hearts they don't actually believe. So the next set of verses and you can see that there are so many verses over here that are talking about this third category and this is the category of the hypocrites. Those who pretend that they believe but they don't actually believe. And people are of three kinds. Either they are believers or they are disbelievers or they are pretenders. And these pretenders the word is hypocrites. And remember that hypocrisy is worse than hypocrisy is worse than disbelief. Because for disbelief any it's very clear a great punishment right but hypocrisy is worse because in the Quran we learn that the hypocrites will be in the lowest level of [Music] hell. So hypocrisy is very dangerous. Very dangerous. And because the danger is greater. This is why so many verses talk about this concept. We see that only two verses talk about disbelief over here. Just two verses and then the next verse. But for hypocrisy, there's so many verses. Why? To make us aware that we need to be very careful. We need to look inside of our hearts and we need to make ourselves more sincere because it is not enough to just say that we believe. It is important that we believe with truthfulness that we truly believe. So Allah subhana t [Music] says and of the people are some who say that we believe in Allah and the last day. They claim that they believe in Allah and the last day, but the fact is that they're not truly believers. So among the people, meaning from humanity in general, not all people, but some of them, there are those who are like this. They say that they believe, but they're not in reality believers. They're lying when they say that they believe. Inah ayah number one Allah subhah says when the hypocrites come to you they say we testify that indeed you are the messenger of Allah they say this to the face of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam Allah subhah responds Allah already knows that indeed you are his messenger And Allah testifies that the hypocrites are lying. They're lying when they say that they believe. They're not actually believers. So Allah subhah does not accept their claim of iman. Why are they not real believers? Because iman faith is not just a verbal claim. We learned about this earlier as well that iman includes action, right? We learned in the qualities of the believers that they pray salah. They believe in the unseen. They believe in all of the revelation. They spend out of what Allah has given them. Right? So there is action and faith together. So faith includes action. Right? There is the beliefs that you hold in your heart but then those beliefs affect your behavior as well. They affect your actions as well. So these people are not truly believers because they don't do the actions of im or they are simply lying when they say that they believe. Inah Ali Imran ay 167 Allah subhah says they say with their mouths what is not actually in their hearts. So they say that they believe but in their hearts there isn't actually belief. So the thing is that their hearts are empty of any faith. Now we don't know what is really in the heart of a person. Only Allah subhah t knows that and Allah subhah ta is exposing such people over here. And why is this being mentioned over here? So that we know that every person who claims that they believe is not necessarily a believer. Not everyone who testifies to the shahada is truthful. Now we have to deal with people based on what they show to us because we don't know the state of people's hearts. We are not supposed to judge or assume regarding the hearts of people that you know they don't actually have faith. So why is this being mentioned over here? This is being mentioned over here for two reasons. First of all, so that we introspect. We reflect on ourselves on our condition that when I say something do I actually mean it or is there a discrepancy between what I say and what I feel what I show and how I truly am what I show in front of people and how I am in private. So this is for the purpose of introspection. Secondly, this is also as a warning meaning the believers are being made aware against deceptive attitudes of people that there are those who come and say things to you on your face but they're not actually sincere. So you should be aware, you should be careful about such people. You see when the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam migrated to Medina initially all the people of Medina did not embrace Islam. Many did but everyone did not. Especially the people who were wealthy, the people who were of status and honor, you know, many of them stayed away. Among them was, for example, Abdullahb. Abdullahb was supposed to be crowned as the king of Medina because the city of Medina which was previously known as they had been embroiled in civil war basically for many many years. The and the were constantly at war. And what had happened over the years is that all of their elders had been killed. All right? Because if you're constantly at war, then the population is going to decline. There is going to be a lot of death. So Abdullahb was actually one of the few elders who had survived. And the people of YB had, you know, finally come to the realization that if we keep fighting, we're going to end up killing ourselves. So we need to stop fighting. We need to have one unanimous leader. And they had thought about the and the were the local tribes of the city of Medina. Okay. So they had you know thought about making Abdullahbn their king. But while you know these discussions were happening these ideas were popping up. Around the same time the people who had embraced Islam in Medina they invited the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam. They went and they gave him the pledge which is known as the pledge and the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam migrated to Medina. When the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam migrated to Medina now all of a sudden he was the leader. He was not only the religious leader but also in a way the political leader. So at the beginning we learned that Abdullahb was very hostile towards the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam. was very jealous, very angry, very hostile, very rude. You know, once the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam was going somewhere, he was riding a donkey and Abdullahb was, you know, sitting with his friends, they were talking and, you know, of course, in the desert when an animal would run or walk, there would be a cloud of dust. So, when there was a cloud of dust behind the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam, he was extremely rude. He put his you know cloth on his face and you know he's like don't bother us and you know he said very derogatory words. So this is how he was at the beginning but then what happened that after the battle of Badr remember that was the first battle against the Mushikim and the Muslims won and that was an amazing victory. 300 people just a little over 300 are defeating an army of a thousand and that also of the people of Makkah the Quraysh any the best of the best among the Arabs. So what happened is that after the battle of Badr many people embraced Islam just on the outward. Why? Because they wanted the perks of being Muslim. It was the popular thing to do. And if you wanted to be safe, if you wanted success for yourself, security for yourself, you wanted more money, then you have to side with the right people. This is how that society worked that people would not, you know, live in isolation. You had to make alliances with the right people. So Abdullahb he outwardly embraced Islam and what he would do is especially when the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam would be giving the you know in the masid when he would come you know give the to address the people would stand up all right and you know he would start praising the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam in front of everybody and he would start saying you know things like we bear witness that you are the messenger of Allah uh you know things like that and it wasn't just him it was also his followers you know his friends so Allah subhanaha exposed the hypocrisy of such people and you know eventually there were circumstances that came about that showed the true colors of these individuals so for example when the next battle came along the battle of you must be familiar about what Abdullahb did initially He went along with the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam but then he decided that he was going to go back. So he left with 300 people. He took 300 people back to Medina. So at that time the hypocrisy of Abdullahbah was revealed. So when verses like this are mentioned in the Quran, yes they are and we discussed this earlier as well. The application is not general. The application is specific but there is lesson. What is that lesson that we introspect and secondly we should not be naive that there are people who do a lot of flowery talk who try to satisfy you who try to you know make you happy with just their words. Don't fall for their words. Actions speak louder than words. So among people there are those who say we believe in Allah in the last day meaning the day of judgment. But the fact is that they're not actually believers. So who are these people? These people as we learn elsewhere from the Quran that they are the hypocrites. Now what is the word is not mentioned in these verses but the concept has been explained over here. Hypocrisy is basically to show goodness and hide evil. Okay? Meaning basically a person is being pretentious, right? That on the outward on the external they're being very nice but on the inside they're hiding a lot of evil. Okay? Now when it comes to hypocrisy remember that there is two types of hypocrisy and we should be familiar with this. The first type of hypocrisy is that which is in belief. Okay? Where literally on the outward a person is showing iman but they're lying and they know they're lying. They're just faking. They're pretending. In the heart there is no iman whatsoever. And this is something that existed in the time of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam. But in the mi era. So people like Abdullah and his friends they were pure hypocrites. Okay. Because literally they showed ean but in the heart there was no eman and Allah subhah exposed them. The second type of hypocrisy is what we have to be very careful about and that type of hypocrisy is okay which is in actions. Hypocrisy which is in actions which is in behavior. So for example the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam said that the signs of the hypocrite are three that when he speaks he lies when he makes a promise he breaks it when he is entrusted with something he betrays. Right? In another hadith we learn when he argues he is very vulgar. Okay. So meaning hypocrisy in belief and the second is hypocrisy in action. So the first type of hypocrisy yes it existed at the time of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam and it only exists in certain situations. Okay. But is more common and it is something that we have to be very careful about because in hadith we learn that whoever has any of these quality has a trait of hypocrisy. So we have to work on that. Now literally means to leave to leave quickly or to escape rather. Okay. And basically is a desert rodent. Okay. which is called the jerboa and it's very interesting what it does is that the hole or the tunnel that it makes for itself is such that it has multiple exits. Okay, multiple exits and what this rodent does is that it covers those exits you know it plugs some of those exits with light obstructions. So for example, a snake is chasing it, right? It's going to go hide in its tunnel and when the snake is coming from one side, it's going to escape through an emergency exit that the snake never thought about or noticed or saw. So this way the jerboa escapes, right? And this is what the hypocrite does that it comes into Islam through one way but then he leaves. Okay. He leaves whenever there is some kind of difficulty, some kind of, you know, sacrifice and any kind of hardship, he leaves. So they're not truly believers. How are they not truly believers? Allahh explains in the next ayah that that they think to deceive Allah and those who believe. Meaning when they say that we believe, they're not speaking the truth. They're just saying this in an attempt to deceive Allah and the believers. This is what they're trying to do. Now, in their mind, they think that they're deceiving Allah. Okay? But in reality, they don't deceive Allah because nobody can deceive Allah. Now, the word, this is from, okay? Okay. And is to fold one part of a cloth upon another. So when you fold, for example, a pillowcase, you fold it and then you fold it again and then you fold it again. Every time you fold, you make the size smaller. So when you fold, then what happens is that what was visible before is no longer visible. Right? The inside part is now hidden. Every time that you fold there is part of the pillow cover that's going to be hidden. Okay. So this is why also means to hide. Okay. Now is to deceive. How that a person is actually hiding something inside but on the outward they are showing something very different. So a person is showing something but they're hiding its opposite. Why? To achieve a certain goal, right? So, and they think, they desire, they strive to deceive Allah and those who believe, but they don't actually end up deceiving Allah or the believers. Why? Because even if you hide something in your heart, does Allah subhah know about it? If you hide something in your heart, absolutely Allah knows about it. Inah ay 7 Allah subhah tells us and if you speak aloud then indeed Allah knows the secret and what is even more hidden because there are some secrets that you share with people and there are other secrets that you just keep hidden in the deepest part of your heart that you will not even share with your closest friends. So some things you say out loud, Allah knows them. What you keep secret, Allah knows that as well. And what you keep even more hidden, Allah knows about that as well. In Alan ay 29, Allah says that if you hide what is in your chests or you reveal it, Allah knows about it. It is all the same. Whether you express something honestly or you don't, Allah knows about it. So they try to deceive Allah. They attempt to deceive Allah. They think in their minds that they're deceiving Allah. How? By pretending that they believe. By saying that they believe. By taking oaths and by testifying, you know, by saying to so many people over and over again, we believe. We believe. We believe. But in reality, they're deceiving themselves. They only end up deceiving themselves. At the end, it is they who suffer the consequences of this deception. How? Because the believers don't suffer because of the deception of these people. The religion of Allah does not suffer because of the deception of these people. They become victims of their own plot. and they become victims of their own plot. How? Because they think that by lying you know they are benefiting a great deal. How? Because you see at the time of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam someone said that they were Muslim and they were with the Muslims and let's say there was a battle and the Muslims were victorious. Well, guess what? We're good, right? We were also victorious. We will have a share of the victory. we will have a share of the fame right and if you know they were not Muslim they were on the opposite side then they would suffer so they think that they are getting some kind of advantage by pretending to be believers they're not actually because very soon their hypocrisy was revealed so for example later on you know they went and They made alliances with the enemies. By the time that the battle of Kandak came, the battle of the trench came where the Muslims appeared to be in great danger, they switched sides. So they're not actually saving themselves with this deception and in reality they will not be saved and they don't even realize is to realize something by you know through his meaning through your senses that you see something you hear something you touch something so you realize but there's such a disconnect between them and reality that they don't even realize that they're actually harming themselves, that they're actually deceiving themselves. You see, for example, when a person lies to get out of a problem, they think that they escaped the problem by lying. But sooner or later, when their lie is exposed, are they actually saved? Did they actually get away from trouble? No. They find themselves in much greater trouble. So in this life they think that they're deceiving Allah and the believers by pretending to be Muslim. But the fact is that they're actually deceiving themselves because in the world Allah will expose them on the day of judgment. Certainly Allah will expose them. And there's a hadith which I want everyone to reflect over. The prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam mentioned this is a hadith in Sahim Muslim that on the day of judgment Allah subhah will call a person meaning when the judgment will begin Allah will call a person and Allah will say to him oh so and so did I not honor you did I not make you a leader of your people did I not provide you with you know your spouse and did I not subdue for you horses camels and Allahh will mention to him you know the different blessings that Allah bestowed upon that person in the world and the person will admit that yes yes and then it will be said did you not think that you will meet us and that person will say no I never thought I never believed and so Allah subhah will say we forget you as you forgot us so that person will be thrown into hell then another person will be brought and similar things will be said to him did we not bless you with this with that and the person will admit and Allah will ask him did you not think that you will meet us that person will say no Allah will say well I forget you today as you forgot us and then a third person will be brought and similar things will be said to him and the person will say yes I believed oh my lord I believed in you I believed in your book I believed in your messenger I used to pray I used to fast. I used to give charity and he will begin to talk about all the things that he used to do and Allah will say to him that we will bring our witnesses against you and the man will think in his mind that who can testify against me. So that person's mouth will be sealed. He will not be able to speak on that day. His mouth will be sealed and his body will be made to speak. So his legs, his skin, his bones Allah abar they will testify against him and in the hadith it is mentioned that that person will be a hypocrite and Allah will be angry with him. So a person can pretend all they want in this life but the fact is that this lying this pretense this you know two-facedness a person is only deceiving themselves. They don't even realize. And this is the problem, right? That when a person has built a world of lies, they're living in a world of lies. There comes a point when they don't even realize. There's such lack of self-awareness that a person doesn't even realize. You know the first time that a person lies there's something that makes them feel bad but then there comes a point where a person is lying and lying and lying and there's no bad feeling. They don't even realize what is the problem with these people. The problem is that in their hearts is disease. So Allah has increased their disease. Now what's happening over here? There was disease and Allah made that disease grow increase. What's happening over here? The thing is that the punishment, the consequence is always similar to the action. Okay? They lie and they lie again and again and again. They pretend and they pretend again and again and again. So they have a disease and Allah makes their disease grow and grow and grow. Inah Muhammad ay 17 we learn those people who follow guidance then Allah increases them in guidance. Inah ay 125 we learn those people in whose heart is diseased their filth increases more and more filth more and more disease in ay 69 those who strive in our cause we will guide them to our ways so the person who seeks guidance remember Allah subhah facilitates ates guidance for that person and the one who seeks misguidance then misguidance is facilitated for them. So they lie and they cheat and they deceive and they pretend they try to deceive Allah. Well look at the punishment. Their disease only grows. Their problem only worsens because that is what they seek. Now disease mut is basically a state that is not the normal temperament or the normal you know constitution right so for example when there is a disorder that means that there is impaired functioning everyday life is being drastically impacted because of the disorder there is an imbalance you know something is not functioning the way that it should be functioning. So in their hearts is a disorder. In their hearts is a disease, a sickness. Now what disease is this? This is of course the disease of hypocrisy, right? In their hearts is the disease of hypocrisy. But basically the diseases of the heart they are of two kinds. The first type of disease of the heart is that which is related to shahawat desires. Okay. Desires. So inah 32 we learn the person in whose hearts is disease will begin to have desire. Have desire for what? For zena. For illegal sexual intercourse. So the disease is what? It's the desire to do something prohibited to do something wrong. Okay. The second type of disease is that which is related to shubhat doubts that there is no faith there is no conviction there is no certainty so if you think about it the first type of disease that impacts a person's behavior person's suk it's behavioral any there is such desire longing for wrong things it impacts a person's behavior so a person pursues those base desires and they end up disobeying Allah. And the second type of disease is that which is related to doubt. You can say it is cognitive. So there is disease at both levels. There is a problem at both levels. In the mind there is doubt and in the heart there is extreme desire for wrong which causes them to disobey Allah. So Now, how is it that hypocrites have immense desire for wrong things? You see, it was the love for worldly things, for fame, for victory, for money, for power that initially caused them to embrace Islam. They didn't embrace Islam for the right reason. They embraced Islam just to get the perks of Islam, just to get the benefits of Islam. And eventually it was their love for the same thing that led them to switch sides to go and you know side with the enemies of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam. So inah ay 143 we learn the hypocrites are constantly switching back and forth like a pendulum going side to side wavering between the two. They neither belong to this group of believers nor do they belong to that group of disbelievers. They're constantly wavering. Why? Because they're following desires. Right? So there is no commitment. There is no loyalty. There is no honesty. Why? Because a person is pursuing desires, the things of the world. And then because there is shook, there is doubt or they don't care about the consequences of their actions. Because you see when a person is dishonest you there's something that bothers you in your heart. But when you have doubt like yeah who knows if it's even going to happen, right? Who knows? I'm not that confident. Then a person doesn't care about the consequences of their actions. So now why would Allah subhah increase their disease? Because like I said earlier the punishment is always similar to the nature of the action. They deceived. Okay. They deceived and so in consequence their disease was increased. You see when a person lies to himself when a person deceives himself when a person refuses to admit what's going to happen? They're only going to get deeper in their problem. One crime is going to lead to another which is going to lead to another which is going to lead to another. So Allah is not wronging them. Allah is not being unfair to them. No, this is the path that they've chosen for themselves. So Allah lets them go on that path. And this is a very important rule that we should remember. When a person seeks guidance, they're increased in guidance. When a person tries to be patient, Allah gives them patience. When a person strives in the way of Allah, Allahh helps them. And when a person does wrong, then one wrong leads to another. In we learn that right. And on the other hand, the person who believes and confirms and gives sodak, then Allahh facilitates the path of ease for him, facilitates Islam for him. And the person who is stinging, who rejects, then the path of difficulty, meaning the path of hell is made easy for him. So why is their disease increased? Because this is the path that they chose for themselves. And Allah attributes this to himself. And this shows us Allah's power that Allah does not need these people. You're not doing Allah a favor by pretending. Allah doesn't care any it doesn't harm him. And another reason why disease is increased is because the nature of disease is that when it is left untreated, it worsens over time. So yes, a disease might start small. It might be a tiny tumor, a very small tumor. If you think about a cancer, how does it begin? Cells, right? So it might be very tiny, but when it is left untreated, it increases. It grows, it spreads. So when they pursue their desires and they hold on to these doubts, these desires and these doubts only get worse with time. You see, wrong desires are supposed to be tamed. Doubts are supposed to be countered. You're supposed to remove them. And if you don't remove them, if you don't control your desires, then what's going to happen? It's going to get worse over time. So, this teaches us a very important lesson that the moment you recognize something wrong in yourself, stop it right there. Pull it out right there. Remove it right there. Seek forgiveness from Allah subhana t. Ask Allah subhah for strength. Ask Allah subhah to give you the ability to leave it. But the first step is to recognize to acknowledge. Do not pretend like everything is fine. So why is the disease increased for them? Because first of all that is what they chose for themselves and secondly because they did not treat that disease. They did not stop it. they did not do anything to fix it. So when they did not fix it, it got worse over time. When bad actions when we don't repent from them, then eventually they turn into habits. So and for them is a painful punishment. Alm is from alam and alam is to feel pain, ache and ale ever painful meaning continuously painful continuously causing hurt. But why? Why a painful punishment? Because they used to habitually lie. They used to lie a lot. And lying is not just in words. Yes, they lied with their words when they said that we believe whereas in reality they did not believe. Lying is also in one's actions, in one's behavior, in one's lifestyle. So this whole life of you know pretense and deception that in the heart is one thing and on the tongue is the exact opposite with one group of people one way and another group of people completely different. Changing switching one's identity based on where a person is. This is lying. This is not being honest with yourself. This is not being honest with Allah. So And notice painful punishment because of lying in 28 we learn indeed Allah does not guide the person who is you know extravagant and kadab extreme liar lying is something that the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam detested he did not like at all any when someone's lie was exposed the prophet sallallahu alaihi behavior with that person would change any the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam would avoid that person until that person left that lie repented from it changed his behavior. So for this lying is a painful punishment and again we need to think that what are those times places situations in which we end up lying and do we belittle those lies? Do we think that oh it's just a small lie because small lies eventually become big lies and they eventually lead to painful punishment. And when it is said to them that do not cause corruption on the earth, they say we are only reformers. You see a disease does not just sit there. There are symptoms of that disease. So what is the first symptom? The first symptom is that hypocrites cause corruption on earth. What is corruption? What is when something goes bad, when something is no longer good. when something is no longer the way that it should be and you know facad can be intangible things. So for example, when food gets spoiled, right, it's been sitting for very long, so it goes bad. It could be, for example, on a piece of land that there's a forest fire, for example. So these are all forms of facad. But facad can also be in the intangible sense. So for example, when a person is lying, then the relationship is going to go bad. The actions of that person have gone corrupt. So do not cause corruption in the land. And this could be literally do not spoil the earth, right? Do not cause physical facad on the earth. And secondly, this can also mean do not cause problems in the inhabitants of the land. Meaning through your corrupt behavior, through your lies, your breaking of promises, your cheating, your vulgar speech. So a symptom of hypocrisy is that a person disobys Allah and his messenger that a person commits sin and sins are not just morally bad. Sins actually cause problems. How? That for example lying is a sin. Backbiting is a sin. Making fun of other people. This is something that we have been prohibited from doing. They're not just morally wrong. They actually lead to problems between people, between relationships. So for example, if someone finds out that you were backbiting them and how would that affect your relationship with them? If someone finds out that you said something really negative about them or you'll find out that somebody said something really negative about you, this would hurt your feelings and this would impact your relationship. So you see the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam mentioned the actions the traits of hypocrisy that when he speaks he lies and lying is something that causes problems between people. When he makes a promise he breaks it. This is something that causes problems. When he is entrusted with something he betrays. This is also something that causes problems. So at an individual level they cause corruption on the earth. They do things that are problematic. when they disobey Allah they cause disruption and at a greater level also the hypocrites what they would do is that they would go and make alliances with the enemies of the Muslims they would go and you know tell them about the inner matters of the Muslims. So you see for example Abdullahb the same hypocrite eventually what did he do? He even you know accused the wife of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam. He accused her of committing zah and he slandered her the incident of ifk that was the result of whose false accusation whose lie it was. So did that not cause problems? Absolutely. Can you imagine the hurt that that caused to the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam to the Muslims in general any even now when we hear about that story if you ever read that hadith if you listen to that account of any it is something that makes you sad it makes you angry it makes you upset so these actions of hypocrisy cause problems but then at a greater level also you for the entire Muslim society you the hypocrites would do things that would cause problems like what they would go and side with the enemies you know for example at one occasion there was a certain tribe of the Jews you know who had openly betrayed the Muslims they had made you know an agreement and they broke it so they were given a warning that you know what leave from here because you have shown that you cannot live in peace you cannot you know keep true to your word so we cannot trust you you just leave from here so Abdullahb went to them. And he said to them, "No, no, no. You're not going anywhere. You stay right here. I've got my people who will come and defend you. If ever there is some kind of a battle, you stay right here. You don't go anywhere. We are together." So this is something that would again cause problems. So in ay 52 we learn you will see that people in whose hearts is disease they hasten to the enemies. They rush to the enemies meaning to be on good terms with the enemies. They say that we fear that some kind of problem might affect us tomorrow. So we're just preparing for the future. They say that we're doing good things here. We are setting things right. We're just, you know, making these alliances so that in the future when we are in trouble, these people come to our aid just as we came to their aid today. So what's happening over here? They're doing wrong things, but they think they're doing good. is one who does islah is the opposite of fad is to cause corruption islah is to set things right. Yes, these verses are about hypocrites but we need to introspect as well. Right? Think about it. Do we ever justify our wrong actions? Like for example, sometimes we're backbiting and we say, you know, it's very important to talk about this because I want you to be aware. I'm just warning you. Whereas half of that conversation is just gossip. Maybe it's just venting. And you say that it's just, you know, to warn you. So we need to be honest with ourselves that we should not justify our wrong actions and we should not pretend that we're doing good by doing wrong things. You don't set things right by doing what is wrong. You set things right by doing what is right. So they're so unaware, they're so disconnected that they think that they're doing right, whereas in reality they're doing what is wrong. Unquestionably, it is they only who are the corruptors, but they perceive it not. You see, there's four emphases over here. Allah first of all Allah means unquestionably this is to draw attention and to strengthen the meaning of the sentence it gives a meaning of meaning verily indeed no doubt unquestionably then you have the word in means indeed and then you have whom you see them them it's coming again and again that is also adding emphasis and then the corruptors so the fact is unquestion ably indeed, verily, no doubt, it is these people, hypocrites, who are causing corruption. They're not setting things right. And the fact is that they don't perceive. They don't even realize that they're doing things wrong. How come they don't get it? You see when it comes to certain cognitive disorders and we know this in psychopathy for example that a person does not even recognize anymore may Allah subhana t grant healing you see spiritual sickness is very similar and I'm not saying that a mental sickness is spiritual sickness no there is a huge difference but a spiritual sickness like hypocrisy There comes a point where a person does not even realize what they're doing. They don't even realize that they're doing something wrong. They are in such a web of lies that they're confused themselves. They don't even see their actions as wrong. They think that they're doing really good. Like for example, if a person is backbiting, same example of backbiting and when you start the backbiting in your heart, you know this is wrong. I should not be reba this is reeba clearly but then you say to yourself no it's okay it's okay this don't think about it this is important I have to tell them I have to inform them and even though it's none of their business it's none of my business but I have to inform them and you know a person then is so engrossed so busy in backbiting they're having so much fun gossiping that there comes a point where they don't even realize they're backbiting they actually begin to enjoy thea they begin to enjoy the gossip. May Allah subhah protect us. In ay number eight, Allah subhah tells us think about the person for whom his wrong actions are made to appear good. He thinks he's doing something good whereas in reality he's doing something terrible. You the mind is so messed up that a person thinks he's doing good whereas in reality he's doing something wrong. Inah ay 103 and [Music] 104. Shall we inform you of those who are greatest losers in terms of their actions? They used to think that they were doing great work whereas in reality they're doing horrible. And we see this at so many levels. any within families there are people who are so unaware of their own crimes of their own misbehavior you know for example a husband and wife you know they're having a huge problem relationship issues because each person is so focused on the other it's his fault it's his fault it's her fault it's her fault that they don't even realize the problems that they're causing to the relationship right you have even at a political level subhan allah We have leaders, people who are supposed to be in positions of leadership who are clearly doing wrong things, but they refuse to acknowledge, refuse to accept. And it's very easy to point out the mistakes of other people. Very hard to look in the mirror and recognize your own flaws. May Allah subhah give us that ability to be honest with ourselves and to recognize our flaws. And when it is said to them, believe as the people have believed, meaning you should believe in the same way. Believe properly. Show with your actions. And how come your im is not the same as the im of other believers? How come you're like your own kind of Muslim, right? Your own version of Islam. What's going on over here? So, as the people have believed, this is referring to the Sahaba, the companions. So when it is said to them believe as they have believed they say shall we believe as the foolish have believed? You want us to become foolish like them? So basically the hypocrites think that the believers the true believers are foolish. Why? Let's look at the word sufah. Sufah is the plural of safi. Okay. And safi is someone who is unwise. A person who has poor judgment, bad, you know, bad in their opinion. Okay? Why? Because they don't know much. They don't understand much. They're naive. Is when something is so light that it is easily picked up by the wind, right? And blown away. So some people are like this that in their mind they're very naive. They get easily affected by others. They're very quick in you know getting brainwashed. Okay. So this is Safi. Now they say that the believers are they call the Sahabah foolish. But you know what? This is not something new. The people of they said to him in ay 66 we learn that they said to him we see you in foolishness. We think that you're being foolish when you say that we should worship only Allah and you say that we should leave our you know way of life. Inah 38 we learn about how the people of made fun of him at the time of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam in Makkah also was very common right. So we learn inah about the criminals used to laugh at the believers whenever they pass by them. They would wink you know they would make signals with their eyes. So they would make fun of them. The question is why did they say that the believers are foolish? What did the Sahaba do? Because the Sahaba they were true in their faith. Let's take the example of Abu Bakr. Abu Bakr aldahh was a wealthy man of Makkah, a man of status, a man of power, a man who was very well respected and very wealthy. What happened when he believed? He spent so much of his wealth for the cause of Islam. you know the enslaved Muslims who were being tortured, persecuted by their masters, Abu Bakr would pay for their for their freedom right and then when he came to Medina whenever there was a battle what would he do you know about the famous story of how he brought everything that he owned everything he didn't leave any wealth so for people who follow shahawat for whom worldly things worldly fame any or a big deal for them. This would be foolish behavior that hey you're spending your money like this you should invest it you should grow your money you should use it save it for your future save it for your children why are you wasting it all for the cause of Islam and then the Muslims the people of Makkah especially the muajun they had to leave their homes they migrated to Medina again for the people of the world this is foolish why would you leave your family your country, your home, the comforts of your life. Why would you do that? That's foolish. So they said that the believers are foolish. And this is something that happens today as well. You know, for example, if a person is not shaking hands with someone of the opposite gender, any this is considered foolish. But then these days now all of a sudden, nobody should be shaking hands with anybody because that's the right thing to do. So now we see that the hypocrites they would say Allah subhah says unquestionably it is indeed they who are the foolish but they know it not they don't know that they don't know that in reality they are foolish and this is important the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam said that there are two qualities that do not come together in a hypocrite, good manners and the understanding of dean. A hypocrite does not know he's actually foolish. Why? Because he is headed to the fire, but he does not even realize that he's foolish because he's giving preference to the temporary benefits over eternal benefits. And you think about it, the wealth of Abu Bakr, we know about that today. We know about his good deeds. how the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam said to him how he would be called from all of the gates of Jenna and the good deeds of who just for the one night that he spent with the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam in the hijra there's so many as the number of stars in the sky what about the wealth of you know who cares about that what about the efforts of abdahbay who cares about that so this is the thing when a person gives preference to the the worldly desires over the yes in many people will say smart decision but that's not really a smart decision the smart decision is that a person gives preference to the hereafter over the even if that appears to be foolish in the eyes of people but we have to think long term [Music] right his wealth did not benefit him what he earned did not benefit him Now they're their double-faced life. When they meet those who believe, they say, "We believe." When they come to the Muslims, they say, "We believe. We believe." And this also very annoying. You know, when some people keep saying to your face, "I'm here. I'm here." You know, "I love you." And you know that they don't. It's so annoying. So when they go to the believers constantly, they're saying, "We believe. We believe. But when they're alone with their satanic ones, who are these satanic ones? These are their leaders. Okay, their friends who are called over here because what does shaitan do? Shaitan urges you, encourages you to do wrong. So these are referring to their leaders, their misleading leaders who would encourage them to oppose the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam who would basically discourage them from being Muslim. So and these were you know people like the elders of the mushik you know the idoltors the elders even among the Jews. So when they're with them alone, when there is no Muslim around they say to them, we are actually with you. In reality, we are with you. We are loyal to you. We are on your side. And when we said to the Muslims that we believe, we were only mocking. We were only joking. We were only kidding. We didn't actually mean it. Is to make fun of someone. How? by fooling them, you know, in different ways. So, we were just pretending and they fell for it. We were just saying that we believe and these Muslims fell for it. Allah mocks them and he leaves them. He prolongs them in their transgression while they wander blindly. Allahbar. They think that they were kidding. They were having fun, you know, fooling the Muslims. The fact is that Allah mocks at them. How? Because Allah is giving them restbite. You see, ma is to stretch, to lengthen. So Allah gives them more time, more restbite so that they can continue when they're wrong. So that they go deeper and deeper into this trap without even realizing is to exceed the proper bounds. Okay? So it's rebellion. So for example, when water overflows, it's exceeded the proper bounds. So he gives them more time in their rebellion. So they commit more and more crimes, more and more lies, more and more betrayal. They wander blindly. And the greatest form of mockery, how they will be made fun of, how they will be deceived will be on the day of judgment. We learn in surah had about this in ayah number 14 that how on the day of judgment you when only the people who were Muslim will be left in the place of the gathering because what will happen is that each people will be told that follow the one that you used to worship. So the people who used to worship a certain idol they will follow that to hellfire. So one after the other every group will leave until only those who were Muslim will be left and among them will be sincere believers and also hypocrites because they did not worship the hypocrites outwardly did not worship any idols. They did not worship any other god but Allah. So they will be with the Muslims. Then what will happen? There will be darkness and each person will be granted their own light and with their own light each person will go over the bridge which is suspended over hellfire. So we learn in surah had that the hypocrites of course they will not have any light they will be in darkness because that light will be in proportion to a person's faith. So they will not have any light and they will say they will then call out to the believers were we not with you? We used to be with you. You see right now what are they saying? They say to who? To their not to the Muslims. But on the day of judgment they will say what liars. The Muslims will say yes you were with us. But you put yourselves in tribulation. You exposed yourself to situations where you fell and you waited and you doubted. So there will be a wall that will come between them and the believers and they will be left in complete darkness. So any they could have been taken directly to hell before but remember the punishment is always similar to the crime. So Allah he extends them in their rebellion and right now their condition is that they wander blindly. It is said that is the blindness of the eyes and with the is the blindness of the heart. Where a person is in confusion, they are going about puzzled. They're, you know, going about clumsily. They're in doubt and confusion. This is how they go about in the world. any the behavior of a hypocrite is very puzzling because the person is so unstable there is no commitment you know two-faced lying deceptive any from the you know when you look at the behavior of this person like what's wrong with them they're confused who are they those are the ones who have purchased error for guidance. You see is to purchase something. How do you buy something? In order to buy something, you have to give up something else, right? When you buy something, you have to give your money. And in the barter system, you have to give up something tangible. But when you make that exchange, so for example, you give the money to get the ice cream. What does that mean? You like the ice cream more than the money, right? When you trade, let's say, your phone for another phone, what does that mean? That the new phone is more important to you than your present. You're willing to give up what you have to get something else. So, what you're purchasing is more important to you. So, they are purchasing misguidance in exchange for guidance. Allah abar. Look at this. They got the opportunity to see the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam to be with him to pray with him. Any what a gift. What a gift. But they gave that up for what? For misguidance. Because misguidance was more important to them. So their transaction has brought no profit. They made this trade. You know when you make a trade, you get some kind of benefit. They made they got no benefit. No profit. whatsoever. Why? Because on the day of judgment, this exchange is not going to help them. Nor were they guided. So these people are not upon guidance. You see, when you make a trade, when you make a purchase, when you shop, you know, sometimes you realize that you made a mistake, right? When you realize that you paid too much for what you got. But what happens is that, you know, when you fail, you learn. So the next time that you are in a similar situation, you are more careful. You learn from your past experience. But these people know they did not profit and they did not even learn. They're not rightly guided. So every time they make a mistake, their mistake is exposed. Their hypocrisy is exposed. And Abdullahb his hypocrisy was exposed multiple times. But he never learned. He never admitted. He never changed. they're not rightly guided. So what does that show us? that when it comes to the actions of hypocrisy like for example lying and cheating even having doubts and even having you know extreme desire for wrong things okay we are human we're not perfect remember we tend to forget this is our nature right but the thing is that one way is of hypocrisy that a person pretends everything's good everything's fine a person justifies their wrongdoing. A person does not learn from their errors. And the other is that no, you acknowledge this was wrong. This was not okay. I need to fix this. Ya Allah, I turn to you. Ya Allah, you help me. Ya Allah, you heal me. Ya Allah, you allow me to be better. And you strive. When you seek guidance, Allah grants you more guidance. But when you justify your sins, when you become stubborn on your wrong actions, then Allah subhah does not force guidance on people who refuse it. So the main lesson from these verses is that we have to be honest with ourselves, with Allah. Honesty means that we are sincere. Honesty means that we stop pretending. Honesty means that we have we have conviction. We don't let doubts fester. We don't let diseases of the heart fester. We counter them. We tame them. And we turn to Allah every time we fall. And we seek refuge with Allah subhana tala. That ya Allah protect us against hypocrisy. Because these people while they appear to be Muslim, they're not actually Muslim. They're not upon guidance. May Allah subhana t guide us all. A mean inshallah we will conclude over here for today and we can listen to the [Music] recitation. [Music] [Music] Foreign [Music] [Music] for superche. Foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Subhan Allah. [Music] Okay. Alhamdulillah. We've completed our of the ayat. Okay. So, let's go over them together inshallah and extract lessons for ourselves. Okay. So, ayah number eight. And of the people are some who say we believe in Allah and the last day, but they are not believers. Okay. And so, who are these people? There were three categories of people, right? And which category are we studying in these ayat 8-6? Yes, hypocrites. We're studying about the hypocrites. And which uh which category did we study last time? Um when we studied ayat number um six and seven. Yes, the disbelievers. Good. Alhamdulillah. and 1 to5 were if number 1 to5 were about yes the believers okay so there are three categories right there are three categories believers disbelievers and then the hypocrites who has the most amount of ayat so far which category yeah the hypocrites subhan allah what does that tell us when there's more explanation about something. What does it tell us? Perhaps they're the worst. Yes. Be careful. Need to focus on it. More c need more caution needs to be taken. They're dangerous. It's important to know. Yes. Be careful. Important to avoid warning us. Dangerous. Be careful. Don't be deceived. More complications. Stressing out. reflect on ourselves precautions to take most painful punishment for them. Don't be one of them. It's worse. It's worse than kufur. Avoid being one. Um, show goodness and high evil. Yes. More dangerous. Plus, they may be more people are hypocrites than they realize is possible. Yeah. Need time to reflect. Be careful of our actions. Don't just believe. Reflect. Easy to fall into. Yes. Mashallah. Introspect. Yes. Allah is warning us. Don't be one of them. It's for all of us. Yeah. Worse than kufur. Check. Learn. Avoid deception. Get to know more about them. Reflect. Yes. On ourselves. Subhan Allah. Learn what to do, what not to do. Yeah. Something only Allahh can truly identify. He gives us the signs. Yes. Prevent. Subhan Allah. Yes. Lowest level of hell. Protect us from having any of these traits. Yeah. Recognize your disease to have a cure. Absolutely. Subhan Allah. So there's more explanation because they're more complicated as well to figure out, right? A believer, you know, right? You see a believer, you speak to a believer, you see their actions, you understand, okay, this is a believer. A disbeliever, you see them, you hear what they have to say, you say, okay, this is a disbeliever. But a hypocrite, you can't tell. You don't know which category they're in, right? They're very complicated and so subhan Allah, they need more explanation, right? So may Allahh prevent us from having any of these qualities. Right? So what are we learning from ayah number eight? The hypocrites what does not match? They're saying they believe in Allah but what does Allahh say? Yeah. Their actions do not match their words. Yes. They are not in sync. Right. And number nine, they think to deceive Allah and those who believe, but they deceive not except themselves and perceive it not. So, subhan Allah, people get to a point where they think they're fooling everyone and they think they're fooling even Allah subhana wa ta'ala. So they think that subhan Allah their words are enough to satisfy everyone even Allah subhana tala but Allahh is saying here that they think they're deceiving Allah subhana tala and they think they're deceiving the believers but who is it that they're actually deceiving? themselves. Yes. They're just deceiving themselves. Yeah. They think they're right and they can't see that they're wrong. Subhan Allah. They're fooling themselves. They don't realize. Yes. Yes. So, they're actually fooling themselves. Now, when you are dealing with a person who's always lying and cheating and deceiving, but maybe you know they're a relative or maybe you know they're a close family friend or maybe you have to work with them or maybe they're at school and you have to interact with them all the time. You have to be kind. I mean, you have to be polite, right? Because you have to deal with them. You have to deal with them in a respectful manner. Um because that is the relationship that's there. But do they truly fool you? No. Right. You know, you know, so it's a deception, right? They think they're deceiving everyone, but just because you have to treat them a certain way, it doesn't mean you're actually being deceived. Yes. It's true. Allahh will show. But they think no one knows. They think they're getting away with it. Subhan Allah. And this is very, very scary. That if we think just because we didn't get caught for something that we will never be caught for it, then we are in deception. And this happens and this is a mercy of Allahh. Sometimes we do something very wrong but nobody finds out. Now there's two ways this can go right. Either subhan Allah we can deceive ourselves and think no one knows it's fine no worries. Or we can recognize the wrong seek forgiveness. Ask Allah to continue to hide it and fix ourselves. Right? So it's a mercy and if we seek forgiveness, Allah will not expose it. If we truly truly seek forgiveness, inshallah, we have that hope, right? We ask Allah to erase our sins. Even if it is exposed, if we seek forgiveness, then we're good. We don't need to worry. Inshallah, right? But to think since no one knows, I have nothing to worry about. That would be a very big big deception. And so Allah tells us about the hypocrites that in their hearts is a disease. So Allah has increased their disease and for them is a painful punishment because they habitually used to what? Yes. Used to lie. Now lying is so common. People lie and don't think twice about it. Okay? They lie to just get away with something immediately. And some people are such good liars that you can't even tell. They're smooth liars. Subhan Allah. and they get away with things and they keep getting away with things. So Allahh is calling this a disease and Allah is telling us that it in he increased their disease. Now when you look at lying yes it's common and dangerous subhan Allah. Yeah exactly it's become a habit. So Allah says he increased their disease. So when you when someone tells a lie, they tell one lie and then what do they have to do to cover up the lie? They have to tell another lie, right? Yes. And then subhan Allah, maybe someone else comes into the picture and now they have to fix the situation. So then they tell another lie and maybe it's not even the same lie. And perhaps another third person comes into the picture. And so now they have to tell a third type of lie. And what are they doing? Now they have to make sure that these three people don't meet. But if they do meet, right, that there's a fourth lie that covers all of their lives. And so, subhan Allah, what happens is a person who lies just gets better and better and better at it. So Allahh is telling us this is a disease in the heart and this disease will increase and subhan Allah what are they going to get a painful punishment. All of these lies do they have an effect on people? Yeah, they ruin people's lives sometimes. They're so huge. Yes, there are consequences. Subhan Allah. Absolutely. Hurt other people. Not just one person, multiple people get affected because of that lie. And so Allahh says there's a painful punish for punishment for them because why? They habitually used to lie. This was something they did constantly. This wasn't something that happened once and they realized it and they sought forgiveness. Right. Yes. Used to. Subhan Allah. And so lying, yeah, absolutely. It can bring anxiety into other people's lives. It brings anxiety into one's own life actually as well. Right. So these people who lie are never truly happy because they can't be. They don't have time. They have to just constantly keep track of all of their lies. And so subhan Allah, this is a disease. So what should we do? Because like you all are um typing um mashallah that um you know um really good um points here that these are things that cause um desensitization. Yes. And so yeah they will be exposed one day but subhan Allah sometimes people get away with it right. Yeah. They continue lying it becomes a habit. It just increases. The hesitation finishes. Yes. They become smooth liars. Yeah. It breaks relationships. It hurts other people. Yeah. We need to treat the disease then and there. That's why lying is the mother of all sins. Subhan Allah. Yes. They're called pathological liars. Yeah. As assess our actions, our words. Right. Absolutely. So that's the thing, right? That there are no white, black, green, gray, purple lies. Either it's the truth or it's a lie, right? So that's that's the problem, right? So sometimes people lie to, you know, so they don't hurt someone's feelings, right? But that's a problem because now perhaps you know you've actually done that person a disservice, right? Somebody sometimes someone says um you know how does this dress look? Does this dress look okay and you know it doesn't look good on them. You know it's not a good color for them or whatever it may be, right? But you just say, "Yeah, it looks great." And then they walk out in public like that. Subhan Allah. Right? Instead of saying, you don't have to say, "No, that's an ugly dress." You don't have to hurt their feelings, right? But you can you can be kind. You can say, "You know that purple dress that you had that you wore the other day? That one looks nicer than this one. That one suits you really well." Right? So, you don't have, we're not saying you have to go hurt people's feelings, right? But at the same time, yes, you can find a positive point, right? So don't hurt people's feelings, but find a kind way to tell them the truth, right? Because by lying, you've actually done them a disservice, right? because perhaps someone else is going to tell them at the event that that's a terrible dress and you could have saved them the pain of being humiliated in public. So be kind but be truthful, right? Be kind but be truthful. Yes. So, but do it in a nice way, right? We're not all going to just um leave class and say, "Okay, that's it. I'm g I'm going to tell the truth. Um regardless of who it hurts, right? But be kind. Even moms don't like to tell their kids why they don't pray. So every time they cannot pray, they make up something. Yes. It's a Subhan Allah. It the reality of life is that women can't pray and it's going to happen every single month. So you might as well tell them that you know Allah subhanaa tala gives women um a a you know a week off every month when they get older where they don't have to pray. Um you can say they um they have a tummy ache. You can say whatever you need to say for that child at that age, right? So at you know some way. Yeah. But you can say you're sick, but yeah, be careful because you don't want them to think that, you know, women are get sick every month. But yes, find a way to um find a way to say it in a way where they aren't worried about you, right? Um but they understand that this is something that happens every month and they won't even ask you, right? Yes. So, we need to stop lying. We need to stop lying. Subhan Allah. Um, what to do for in a situation where people around you lie and if you distance, they say you're ignoring us. Isn't distance a way to avoid being like them? Is as distancing from their liars from the liars and cheating traits because uh traits cause peace of mind and heart and being with them keeps one in constant worry. Yeah. So, um the thing is when you try to distance yourself from someone who lies, it makes them uncomfortable, right? So, they're going to call you out on it, right? But you should know that what you're doing is it the correct thing and then don't worry about their comments, right? Because it makes them uncomfortable. They don't want to face the reality of it. So instead of taking the blame on themselves, right, they will put it on you. Yeah, make sense, right? They don't want to face the reality of their wrong. And so they don't even look at their own wrongs. What they do is they look at what other people are doing and point those things out instead. Yeah, maybe they'll start to think they can skip prayers when they're sick. Um, lies. Yes, absolutely. It starts somewhere. Subhan Allah. What about lying by emission avoiding the truth? Yeah. So it depends on the situation, right? Um, so you have to give more of an example to um for we can um so depends like sometimes like let's say someone um you're talking to someone about something private and a third person walks in and you know they weren't there so you were having this private conversation and they ask you you know what what was that about and you say oh nothing it was it's nothing you don't need to worry about it right so people say something like oh it's nothing that doesn't mean that it's nothing they're just telling the person um don't worry about it. Right? So if it's words like that that are commonly understood um as you know uh being interpreted in the correct way then that would be okay. Yes. How do you politely tell someone you don't want to backbite when you're having a conversation with them? Yeah. So um there's two ways to do it. You can either well actually there's three ways what you can do in a situation where um something like that is happening. You can um say something positive about the person. You can say something positive about the person to shift the conversation. Um you can say that you know I'm not comfortable um with this conversation. But if it's a situation where there's like a bunch of people and you can't speak out, then you should just leave that area, right? Leave the area. make an excuse. Um, you know, I need to sorry, I have to make a call or, you know, I need to get some water or, you know, something. Make some excuse. Go do that thing that you're saying you're going to do and then come back, um, after you're done and hopefully that conversation is over by then, right? So, usually when someone leaves, um, the conversation kind of gets broken up anyway. So, um, yeah. So, don't stay there, right? Um for the sake of good sometimes we can say minor no minor lies major lies they they all are lies right but they're all lies. Yes. What if someone is cheating and you your friend comes and asks you about it? Okay. So I think then we need to figure out you know why do we know about it right? Um, it depends, right? It depends on the situation. If you can say, "I don't want to get involved." If it's a situation where you don't need to get involved, but if it's affecting your friend, if they're cheating is affecting their your friend, um, then, you know, something needs to be done. You need to maybe sit everybody down and talk about it or something, right? So, try not to get yourself in that kind of a situation, right? If somebody is cheating, um maybe you need to distance yourself from that person, right? Because they're going to get you in trouble. Um subhan Allah. Is it okay to ignore a question when you don't want to answer? But we So it depends on the person who's asking the question, right? Is it okay to ignore? It depends. Is this person someone who's always nosy? Um or is this someone who's genuinely interested? Right? So, um, if it's you don't have to answer anyone's question, but you can just say something like, "Yeah, I'd rather not talk about this, you know, and change the subject. You don't have to, um, give this them the silent treatment, right? It's talking about an issue we're facing to get advice also backbiting." So, it would be backbiting. Um if you are telling everyone but if you're talking if you have a problem and you speak to the person who can help you right who can help you that's not backbiting right but if you're talking to every single person who calls you who you know about this situation then that is going to be um backbiting it. Um, what if it's over something small like someone cooks something and they ask you how is it but it tastes terrible. You can say something good about it. You can say I I love the effort you put into making this. Thank you so much for putting in so much effort um and making this for us. That was so nice of you. You were so thoughtful. There's positive in everything, right? We focus so much on the negative that we can't even think positively, right? So just um make sure that you focus on the positive. Um what if one of our parents is cheating? We know the truth and we advise they still choose to lie. What can we do? You can just advise and then try to distance yourself from that um situation um as much as possible in Right. Is it backbiting when you don't mention their name? No. But a lot of times people can figure out who it is. right? People can figure out who it is. Um so make sure that it's not a situation like that. What if your aunts are backbiting and you can't say anything to them out of respect? That's that's the thing, right? It's not about respect. It's about um what is correct, right? And what is not correct. Okay. So this lesson was about lying. You guys have moved to backbiting. So let's bring this back lesson back to the ayat that we are on. Okay. And when it was said to them, do not cause corruption on the earth. They say but we are reformers right and when it's told to them don't cause corruption what do they say what do they say they say we are actually fixing the situation doesn't this happen subhan Allah that there are people who are actually making things worse but when you tell them that this is not fight they tell you that they are fixing the this situation right and so subhan Allah they don't even see their own wrong after some time yes subhan Allah some leaders are like this may Allah protect they cause so many problems but subhan Allah they claim that they are fixing the situation yes very difficult to make them understand right and so Allah says that unquestionably it is they who are the corruptors but they don't perceive it so may Allah protect us from this our job is to now analyze right everything that we say we have said if it's caused any problems with uh people and their relationships and to make sure that you know if moving forward that if we do lie that we immediately correct ourselves Because if we want to know, if we want to fix ourselves, Allahh will show us our mistakes. So what happens if you lie and you immediately turn around, you say, "I'm sorry, that was not the truth. This is the truth." Right? Then it won't happen again. Is it easy to turn around and tell someone that you've you've made a mistake that you've lied? It's not, right? So what will you do? You'll self-discipline, right? Because you won't want to do that again. You won't want to do it again. Right. So you've basically self-disciplining. Yes. We have to fix these affairs. May Allah not make us among those whose disease is increased. Okay. And then it when it's told to them to believe like the other the people have believed they say should we believe as the foolish have believed. Unquestionably it is not they who are foolish but they know it not. Right? So subhan Allah they are considering the believers to be foolish. Why? Why do the people why do the hypocrites the people who lie why do they think that the believers are foolish? Because they see that they're in loss, right? They didn't lie. So they didn't get this um deal. Subhan Allah. Right? they missed out on all of these opportunities because they didn't lie, right? People lie, people bribe, people um do different things to get uh you know, something free, some something extra. And then the believer, they're telling the truth and so subhan Allah, they only get what they paid for, right? So they think this is a loss, right? They think this is a loss. Subhan Allah. So they think they're foolish. What they don't realize is there's a painful punishment coming up for those who lied and got ahead. Okay? And when they meet those who believe, they say, "We believe." And when they're alone with their evil ones, they say, "Indeed, we are with you. We're only mockers." So what are these people then? Hypocrites. They're also two-faced, right? Yes. They they're happy. They think they're winning in the duny. Subhan Allah. Exactly. So believer um the hypocrites are two-faced depending on which group they are with they behave in that way. This is also very scary like am I a completely different person with a one group of people and am I a completely different person with another group of people? Right? A lot of people have this type of um you know groups of people where they behave differently with each one right and this is selfish right because they're only meeting with this group because they get this benefit but then they change their personality and they go to this group because they want that benefit so this is something that is problematic right this is selfish yes it's confusing Right? So a believer is a believer everywhere. But Allah mocks them and prolongs them in their transgression while they wander blindly. Right? So it they think they're winning. They think they're getting ahead. But subhan Allah, they're actually just blind to what is the reality. What is Yes. They're lost. They can't see what the truth is. They cannot see the truth. Can you imagine being blind to the truth? Subhan Allah. Those are the ones who have purchased error in exchange for guidance. So their transgression was has brought no profit nor were they guided. Right? So this was very beautifully explained in Tapsier as well that you basically you're making an exchange. Right? When you get that ice cream, like sister Damia had mentioned, right? You that means you like the ice cream cone better than your money, right? And a lot of us don't think about it this way when we're buying something, right? Cuz if you had a choice, you'd always pick money, right? But subhan Allah, you like that item more than your money, right? So now, is that the reality? Do you really like that item more than your money? Not always if you understand, right? If you um really think and you know analyze what you've just done. So what have these people done? The same way. Subhan Allah. They have purchased misguidance. They gave guidance away and they took misguidance for themselves. They preferred misguidance for themselves. Right? And so, subhan Allah, there's no prophet and this transaction and because they've they've made this transaction, there's also no subhan Allah guidance for them, right? So, they have uh you know made a terrible terrible transaction here, right? It is something that is not going to bring them benefit in any neither in this world or in the hereafter. Yeah. Sometimes we make the wrong exchange. Right now I'm sure everyone's rethinking everything they've purchased especially in their maybe their groceries or you know when they were on a trip and now you're thinking really didn't like that more than my money. Okay. Alhamdulillah. So a little um money tip right on how to inshallah manage our spending as well. Okay. Alhamdulillah. Okay. So let's come to our dua inshallah before we conclude class. So um we will learn this dua and then you will be inshallah memorizing this dua for this week. Okay. Yes. Reflect before spending. Absolutely. Absolutely. Okay. So, bismillah, if you have your the duas of knowledge uh bookmark, we have the PDF uploaded in the dua section as well. So, you can open it up from there. Okay. And then this will be uploaded for you as well. Okay. So, today's dua is um the dua of Misam. Okay. So, it is Okay. So you hear um us saying it in the beginning of class as well. So let us take a look at this dua. What are we asking for? Yes, in every class, right? So we're asking, oh um my Lord, open up or expand for me my heart, my breast, my chest, make ease for me in my task and untie the knot from my tongue and so that they may understand my speech. Okay. So there's so many um parts to this dua. So this dua was taught to uh Mus Alisam when Musa Alisam had to go and face right and Fyon is subhan Allah was the greatest super power of the time. Okay. Um he was the greatest superpower of the time. Um and so Musa Alisam is very nervous, right? he has to go face um Fyon and tell him about Allah subhana wa ta'ala, right? Fyon himself thinks he's Allah. So he's very nervous. He turns to Allahha and he makes this dua, right? And so this um dua has four parts to it. So the first one here on the screen is asking Allahh to open up their chest. It says breast, you can say heart, right? Sadi can mean any of these. Chest, heart, breast, right? Right? So asking Allahh to open up our chest. So what does it begin with? What does the dua begin with? Begins with right. We all remember us. So subhan Allah. He's the master. He's the originator, sustainer, creator. Subhan Allah. There's so many words, right? So you're my r. I'm turning to you, right? You're my rob. If you don't take care of me, who's going to take care of me? Right? Yah, you brought me here. You created me. So, I'm turning back to you. Right? So, here we're calling out on our before we even start to seek the rest of the dua. Right? So, we're saying, we get our attention and then we say, "Open up my chest. I'm going to go seek knowledge. Open up my chest. Right? Open up my heart. Why are we asking Allah to open up our hearts? Because knowledge, what is actual knowledge is in our hearts. It's not in your notes. It's not in your J. It's not on your device. It's not in the books that are on your shelf. The actual knowledge is what is in your heart, right? That's true knowledge. So we really need Allahh to help us retain and absorb this knowledge. So alhamdulillah, we're coming here, we're learning and then we're going over our homework every single day. Subhan Allah. So we make this dua and we ask Allahh to open up our chest, remove the constrictions, remove the burdens, remove the heaviness, right? And sometimes, subhan Allah, we're so nervous um you know when we have to speak in front of someone for example, right? So rubbishi also has a meaning of ya Allah calm my heart. Give me relief so I can focus. So with the heart functioning properly then the body will function properly. Yes. Like you're nervous in groups. Exactly. Right. So subhan Allah. We need good spiritual health to be able to understand the knowledge we're speaking to be able to convey the knowledge that we're speaking. Right? So here we ask to Allahh to open our hearts. Now imagine if you have a jar, if you have a jar, even if it's a clear jar, if it's closed tightly and you try to pour water on it, what's going to happen to the water? It's just going to fall over all over the place, right? It's just going to roll off the cap and Yeah. make a spill. Exactly. Just going to be a puddle, right? So here we're asking Allahh to open our chest, right? We need it to open so that we can absorb or else it's just going to spill over. It's just going to flow over. Right? So we don't want to pour knowledge over a closed heart. We need the heart to be open so it can absorb. It can become a part of us. That knowledge can transform us. Right? Right? So when we're making this dua, imagine your heart is opening up. Right? Yes, we can understand implement. Absolutely. And then the next part where my task and make easy for me my task, right? And so make my task easy. So why are we asking to make our task easy? Because subhan Allah difficulty and ease they depend on a person's mindset. Not always, but a lot of times if you tell yourself something's hard, it will be even harder than you imagine. If you tell yourself no, I can do this, there's ease in it, it can be easy, it will become easy, right? Then subhan Allah, it will become easy for you. Yes. We give up because we become weak. Yes. So one thing can be very very difficult very heavy on one person and very simple for another person and these two people are at the same level and it's because of their thoughts. They're telling themselves that is difficult. You know our brains cannot handle negativity and positivity at the same time. So your brain can only take one. So if you fuel the negativity, your brain will stay in that negative state. Your mind will stay in that negative state. But if you turn that thought into something positive and you work on that, then your mind will pick up that. Try it next time you're doing your lesson. Right? Next time you're doing your lesson, if you think it's hard and you just sit and mull over that fact that it's hard, it's just going to get harder. And if you tell yourself, "No, Allah tells us in the Quran that I have made this Quran easy to remember. This is easy to remember. Everything takes time. Everything takes practice. It will become easy inshallah." Right? So when we set out to seek knowledge, we face difficulties. Sometimes they're inside ourselves and sometimes they're from the outside. Right? So sometimes our mind isn't cooperating. We memorize. We forget. Right? We get worried. We get disheartened. And then what does this do? Subhan Allah. This gives Shaitan an opportunity to do his job. Right? He starts talking down to us. You don't have to do this. You can quit. This is too hard. this is difficult, you know, change your status, cancel, you know, whatever. Subhan Allah. Right? But here, subhan Allah, when we make this dua, we're asking Allah to make ease in our task. Whatever you're set out to do, ya Allah, make ease in it. And this can be used for any kind of communication, right? It can be a phone call. It can be a text message. Maybe you're typing up. Maybe you're giving a presentation. Maybe you're uh studying for a test. Maybe you're going to groups. Right. Whatever it is, you can use this for anything. Yes. Any exam. Exactly. Next. Next thing is to loosen the knot in my tongue. Right. So untie the knot of my tongue. Right. So we're asking here, right? Is to open something. to loosen to untie. So we're asking Allahh to give us the ability to speak in a way where we're not hesitating, we're not stuttering, right? I want to be able to express what's in my heart. Does this happen to you that you understand a concept, you understand an idea and you have no doubt in it, but you can't explain it. You don't know how to verbalize it, right? You have a lot in your heart, but your tongue doesn't cooperate. Right? So, when you think about it, is it useful to have a treasure that's inaccessible? Right? You have, let's say, you have a beautiful diamond necklace. You want to wear it for your sister's wedding, but you lost the key to the safe. Now, is there any benefit of that diamond necklace? No matter how much you love it, you can't wear it to the wedding. Right? So it wasn't accessible when you needed it. Right? So similarly, if you have amazing thoughts, you have a treasure of knowledge, but you can't use it when you need it. Right? The opportunity passed by you, then it's not the same. Subhan Allah. Right? Similarly, sometimes you know you you purchase something from the grocery store, right? There's a jar and you can't open it. It's a clear jar. You can see the foods inside. You can see the sauces inside, but you can't open it. So, it's useless. Right? So if we have knowledge and if we're thirsty for it but we don't know how to convey it then subhan Allah we have an opportunity and we can't quench people's thirst because we can't vocalize what we're thinking right so that's very very painful subhan Allah yeah you think later I should have said that absolutely right or even you can think of it at this time but you can't vocalize it subhan Allah Right? So untie the knot. Ya Allah make it make complicated things easy for me. Help me to articulate what I want to say. And then the end my speech they under they they understand my speech. Right? That they understand my speech. And so subhan Allah this is so that when we speak the people understand right so who needs to understand whoever I'm speaking in front of whoever I'm trying to convey to right it could be in my group it could be my group leader right my group in charge whoever I'm trying to speak in front of whether they're in front of me whether they're online whether they're going to hear a recording later it doesn't matter whether I'm typing something I'm maybe I have a blog of reflections, whatever it may be, right? Ya Allah, I'm typing this, but make it so that someone can understand it when they read it. That when they hear me speak, they can understand. So they can understand me. So communication becomes easier for me, right? Because what's the point in saying something if no one understands, right? So when you're making this dua, what are you going to do? Firstly, you're going to imagine your heart is opening up right think of your task, think of your tongue, your expression, right? And when you are um saying then think of subhan Allah, pay attention to who you're trying to convey to, right? So make this dua with full attention with full concentration in our hearts and our minds and inshallah our dua will be answered. Right? So this dua we actually learn many things. This dua is telling us that it's okay to be overwhelmed. It's perfectly okay to be overwhelmed and insecure. There's nothing wrong with that. Right? It's normal to get scared. It's normal to feel nervous or anxious before doing something. But Allah subhanaa tala through dua can remove all of this right. We need to make dua and trust on Allah subhanaa tala because he taught these words right? Right? So we ask Allahh open up the constriction of our hearts to remove our stresses and our worries and our anxieties to give us confidence in ourselves to have trust in our right and ya Allah make this journey of seeking and make ease in our journey of seeking ya Allah and not only this but in all of our affairs that come along with this right. Alhamdulillah. A mean okay what we'll do is inshallah we'll post the recording of the dua as well in the dua folder so you can inshallah listen to it and you can memorize it inshallah okay sounds good okay so everyone alhamdulillah we completed our class for today and inshallah we look forward to um having you um in our class tomorrow as well inshallah. Okay. So in we'll conclude here. Okay. Okay. I see there's some questions. So inshallah we'll take your questions and answers now. Um just give me one second. I'm just going to stop the um live stream. Okay. So if you have any questions about the course um you can definitely stay and inshallah we'll answer your questions. Um the slides from today's the slides from today's taps here are already on the portal right? Um yeah they're already there. Tomorrow's are there as well. Um you can just refresh the um portal inshallah find it. Yes, you can have question and answer now. Absolutely. Okay. There's a lock on the supplication knowledge cards. I can't write on it. Um okay. I'm not sure how to remove those locks. I'm really sorry. I don't know the passwords and stuff to remove them. Uh maybe you can um write on a different document, take a screenshot um and put the dua on a different document. Inshallah. Um you have an issue logging in for a group session. Okay. Um can you kind of explain the issue so that we can help you out inshallah? Uh can you tell us what kind of thes and suna questions will be on the test? Is there a lot of writing? Yeah. So uh you know the thing is that it's open book so you can always go back and listen to the recording and then answer the question in taps as well. So try to get the main points. Um you know imagine that you are imagine there's someone you love. Okay, there's someone you love and you want to tell them what you learned in Tapsir class or you're hearing what Sister Tamia is saying and you're like, I wish I could tell this person this. So, then you can write those things down, right? Those are things that you think are cool, that you are finding interesting, that you find are amazing. So, you will note those things down, right? you're thinking, okay, I wish I could tell so and so um you know, my loved per the person I love this this this this this, right? And you write those things down. Um and so that's a kind of a way for you to that doesn't mean that you have to go and present everything to that person, but imagine that if you're going to teach someone, what would you want to capture so you can teach, right? So write those things down. Um inshallah yes there is a lot of writing but don't worry open book quizzes mean that you can even use the recording to answer the questions okay so don't stress about that too much um I'm new in the class I don't know how to add in the groups okay have you um mina have you completed the steps on the portal step 1 2 3 and four um so if you complete the steps 1 2 3 and four when you complete step four it asks you what group you want to select So you select your group. After you select your group, then you go on the portal um and you find the green group folder. Okay, there's only one green folder. So you find the green group folder and you join your group from there. So step one 2 3 4. Fourth step, select your group. Um the what you're going to do after that is find the green group folder and you will join your group from there. Um for someone who's new joined last week, we're supposed to join the group that every week or this week will be the first group session. Um um yeah, it would be good to pop in to your group even if you're not um ready um so you can get an idea of how groups work, right? But um that's fine. Um inshallah you can join from uh this week. Um yes, whatever card you used for your first payment will be the same card that will be um charged monthly, right? If you need to change your card, you can update it. Um you just go to alhudahonline.org and your account and you can update it. Um but yes, whatever card was there. Do we need to know the hadith that were mentioned in the section? Uh no, you don't need to know them. It's a good idea to write down the gist, right? Um just like what's the main idea of the hadith just so that you know you know um for your own reference which hadith goes along with it inah. Um previous week homework asked to read the user guide from the j if you haven't purchased one. Okay. When you purchase it then read it then check mark it. Okay. Um yes we are done. Yes, you always have homework. It'll be on the um we'll put it on the portal. So, ayat number 8 to 16 word to word translation uh the recitation and then sister I think we gave some tajid homework. So, all of that will be um uploaded on the portal inshallah. What is a reflection? A reflection is anything that you found you know very interesting that uh basically you heard something in taps and it you know reminded you of something or it um you know uh basically sparked a thought of some kind that you want to share. I use my iPad to log in for everything. When I go into the group section I try click join meeting. That button doesn't work. If someone senses lonely, I can join from there. And this issue with a few more of your group members. Okay, that's probably an issue with the link itself. So, um, are you using the Moodle app? If you can, if you're using the app, then the app doesn't work well. Or are using a browser? Okay. Yeah, homework tracker on the portal has the homework. Okay, I attended class last week, but I didn't remember to mark um my attendance right after class and now I can't mark last week, so I can only see this week's. Yeah. So, um at the top, yeah, if you click all past uh the past, all of the attendance will show up. So, there you'll see small boxes near the top of the attendance. It says all um all past, right? There's a couple of options. So, click all past for that. Can you give me some tips on reflection? Speak from your heart. All right. Speak from your heart when you um when you're giving a reflection. So anything you found cool, interesting, um you know that really touched your heart, you can just say that you know when sister tamia explained um you know this concept, I thought it was very interesting. Right? So you can start with that as a reflection. Um and then if you can add like a sentence on why you thought it was interesting or what about it was interesting to you that's your reflection, right? It doesn't have to be long. It can be you know a very short reflection um but just something that you know you can share something with other people that you found interesting um from taps inshallah I only see step three not step four for joining groups uh yeah just refresh the page and come back um you'll see step four after you se after you select step three okay so you have to complete each step and then the next step opens up can I stay in a course for three months instead of two before I decide this course not for my main goal to was uh to join was to learn word to word only I two two months is enough time to figure out if this is going to work for you or not right so basically before the third month is charged right so it's almost 3 months so just inform us before the third month is charged and you will um you're good yeah we have a lot more subjects than only word to word for Okay, so here is the reflection answer. Pick an eye of that week's class and just think about it. Reflection basically means that hit you, what struck you as profound, what you took away from the session. Be sure to keep your reflection under two minutes. Okay. Alhamdulillah. Yes. Yes. Absolutely. You could have you can leave at um 3 whenever um class is over in what is the best memor way to memorize um the student portal there's a video on how to memorize word to word um check it out inshallah Quran resources yes so check that out for sure um also to use the recordings the word to word recordings are uploaded in this uh study um sorry our study channel on telegram So you go there, you can just play it over and over and over. Familiarize yourself by just hearing it and then inshallah um you know do the word to word um in your j and then test yourself in your plain musf and whatever you didn't remember you know just use a pencil mark it and then come back check what it is and then test yourself again. Yeah there's a PDF right? Yes. Okay. Yeah. There's a PDF on how to memorize word to word inshallah. I signed up for UDU but I request to switch to English while this changes in process. How can I access the portal? Um, okay. It's better if you register for the English and then we'll cancel the udo because I don't think it can be transferred anyway. So, if you registered for one and you're switching to another one, um what's going to happen is that course is going to be cancelled and then you're going to um register for this one anyway. So, best thing is if you want to get started, just register for the English um and then we're going to cancel the udu one inshallah. So, don't wait. Okay. But yeah, if you've already sent an email, then we will cancel it for you inshallah. When are we going to start? Yes. Um so for the group B um for the beginners for reading um we are working on that program and hopefully we hope to have something out in the next week um so that you guys can um basically we're planning a crash course on how to read so that you can get started and then you can improve on your recitation along with um all of your classmates inshallah. So um we're we're getting there inshallah. And where can we find all the assignments for this week? Yeah, go on the portal and look for the folder homework tracker. Okay, look for the f folder homework tracker and you can find um the homework there, but it's not there yet for this week. Um but you can find last week's there. How to save the notes after typing them up on pages app. When I'm opening the J notes, taking template from portal, it's opening on pages. I don't know how to change the default opening to word because I'm um okay just note making I think you have to change the setting on your Mac to um because you can choose which programs are by default so you'll have to change the setting um or um you can rightclick I don't know if it works for this but for a lot of documents ments. If you right click on the document before you open it, right before you open it, um it lets you choose which program to open it with. Also, when you're saving the program, you can save it in uh different formats. So, you open it up, you work on it, you've we're going to save it. It gives you the option to save it in a different format. Okay. Um I tried both Moodle and browser to join the group meaning it doesn't work. Okay. Um can you ask your group in charge to inshallah let us know so we can fix that. Okay. So there's probably some issue. Okay. Um inshallah step four to join groups isn't showing up even after refreshing. Um okay so you completed step one, two and three like you selected and saved your answers. So step four will only show up if you selected regular student or self-paced student. If you selected listener, it's not going to show up, right? So just make sure um go back to step two, make sure you are a student and not a listener, okay? And then it'll show up in the j assignments. J assignments are um open book um assignments where you have uh the question is there and there are multiplechoice answers to select an answer from. You can use your notes to do that. Okay. So, they're based on sister. Uh I try to make my mark my attendance, but today's date is not available. Um okay. At the top of your attendance, um open up the attendance and click uh all. Click all. Um and then inshallah all the dates will show up. Okay, I think you're on all past. So, make sure you're not on all past, but you're on all so that your date shows up. Um, when is the last day registration to change to be regular students? Um, okay. It's still open, right? It's still open and it'll be open throughout May, inshallah. So, try to get it done by the end of May, inshallah. Um, do we send our homework? Um, not unless it says it in the homework tracker to share on Telegram, right? If something needs to be shared on Telegram, it'll say it in the homework tracker or or if um yeah, if unless the teacher said to specifically share on Telegram, um you don't need to share any homework, right? It's with you. Okay. Um you've sent an email. So, we will have to check inshallah why it's not working. I fear if I close it won't save. I'm new to Mac. So how will I see how I can save? Can open through the other way? Yes. Okay. [Music] Um Okay. You're new to Mac. Okay. Welcome to Mac. At the top um on the very top bar, there's an Apple, right? There's an Apple there. Um and so if you click on pages. Okay, you click on pages. So that's the main window that's open. Then you'll see at the top um corner left corner you see an apple. Then you'll say file click that and one of the options is save. Okay. So click save and then you can um inshallah do what you need to do. Okay. Um are you using the app? Um Alina, are you using the app or you using a browser? Um, which day pulls the payment? It depends on which day you registered. Okay.
