in economic development I think a lot of countries have many different priorities but in our minds there are just three most important priorities and these are jobs jobs and jobs it is imperative for the government to create jobs because jobs give people a sense of purpose they have a livelihood for themselves they can raise their standard of living and provide for their families absent jobs there are industries you can lead to disquiet it can lead to a break in the peace and of course the government's burden in terms of welfare also rises to create jobs government must get two things right number one make it easy for companies to get set up to get running so jobs are created and number two human capital development to make sure that the population of the countries are well trained such that when they are of working age they are readily employable the key success factor to any economic development strategy it's to ensure that we have an environment that is easy for companies to do business in and when I mean doing business I mean three factors I mean the ability to set up the business easily in a day if need be through a one-stop shop full licensing requirements all done second to for them to be able to find the workers and manage the workers easily so unions ought to be well managed any militancy the Union ought to be also well managed and third their ability to grow the business and here if governments can can afford their companies access into free trade agreements access into economic zones that enables those businesses to grow and to hire more people we believe that you can't really look at economic development merely in terms of GDP numbers it is a good measure but insufficient we came up with an this notion of not just wealth but well-being and the sustainable economic development assessment is all about capturing a holistic sense of how that country's economy has grown so we measure things like civil society we measure things like governance we measure things like health we measure things like education standards we measure things like of course income levels taken together we believe that any economic development project that fulfills these KPIs or these methods in a holistic way are those projects they're really in the long run benefit of society
