In-Depth Samsung Galaxy S24 Review

today I'm going to be sharing my thoughts after using the Samsung Galaxy s24 for the past 3 weeks now there's a lot to like about this phone but there also some things that I don't like and that I think you should know before buying this video is going to be covering everything you need to know all right so the s24 comes in Violet yellow black and also the gray version that I have here uh with 128 GB for $799 or $799 lb now one of the big changes that the s24 brings compared to last year's s23 uh lies in the design the s24 is noticeably more comfortable to hold and use and this is thanks to the fact that the s24 Now features a flat frame with rounded edges uh as opposed to the s23 is rounded frame with more sharp edges and it really is the edges that make the difference and the more rounded feel uh of the s24 is just much more pleasant to use and is in fact very similar uh to Apple's iPhone 15 by the way I am currently working on my s24 versus iPhone 15 comparison video so be sure to subscribe to not miss out on that the display on the s24 is great with just one disappointment but first the positive it is now actually slightly larger going from 6.1 in up to 6.2 in however thanks to having even thinner and still symmetrical bezels going around the display the dimensions are actually almost identical to the previous s23 meaning that the s24 is still a compact phone that can easily be used with one hand the oet display is also much brighter going all the way up to 2600 nits uh meaning that when you're outside the sun may not blind you but this display just might colors are also really fantastic I help bring your content to life and then of course on top of that you get that one to 120 HZ refresh rate which means motion on screen is just buttery smooth but what did disappoint me is that the s24 still uses Gorilla Glass victus 2 and not the far superior gorilla glass armor that the s24 ultra has which does a much better job at resisting scratches and also hiding Reflections come on Samsung anyway uh the unders screen ultrasonic fingerprint sensor remains to be the best fingerprint sensor on any phone it is super fast and reliable uh the s24 is also ip68 water resistant so you can use it in the rain with ease when I review phones I normally don't dedicate a whole segment of the video to AI but some of the biggest features of the s24 are actually AI based for example you get Circle to search which lets you Circle and look up any object on screen whether it be a plant in a photo an overpriced candle you name it this feature Works quite well AI is also integrated in the voice recorder app where you can not only transcribe your recording but it can also identify the number of speakers within that recording and tell you who says what and this is really cool but unfortunately for me it has not been accurate enough to really count on there are often mistakes in the transcript uh particularly around names and at times it will confuse and mislabel people within the recording in photos you can generate fill when rotating images and can even resize move and remove objects from a photo and interestingly here uh the AI in some instances were works really well but then in others less so it's kind of a hit or miss now there are more AI features uh but these are the ones that I find myself using most and I think it is important to say that yes these AI features are cool but are also overhyped by some especially here on YouTube there is no uh chat GPT level of AI integration here yet though these are steps in the right direction but what may be a step in the wrong direction is Samsung says these AI features will remain free until the end of 2025 while at this stage it is not fully clear what exactly that means what this sounds to me like is a monthly subscription to access your phone's full operating system and features maybe on the horizon in which case I very much hope Samsung reconsider this move but what do you think I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments let's talk about the camera so the s24 packs a triple lens camera system with the same Hardware as last year uh I'll leave the specs on screen but the improvements here lie more in better image processing thanks to the newer processor and in certain areas this does show the 50 megapixel wide lens remains impressive uh it is sharp and has high dynamic range capturing details in the bright and darker parts of the photo I also notice that the main lens now does a better job at interpreting colors for each part of the frame independently for example on the s23 this bright red screen would have applied a red tinge to the whole image including the sky where on the s24 the sky remains true to life and you can see it here too with this bright blue sign and yes scary headline indeed unfortunately the ultrawide and telephoto lenses form almost identically to last year meaning the difference in quality in terms of sharpness uh and colors between the lenses is now bigger and images are less consistent when switching between lenses and as a result I found myself using the ultrawide and telephoto lenses less I would have liked to see Samsung improved these lenses even if just a bit to keep up with the main lens on the front the selfie camera is good with not too much skin smoothing it is sharp and has depth night mode on the main lens has also improved uh it now more accurately retains colors even in very low light situations and this is where we see the improved post image processing shine 4K video looks a bit better compared to the s23 uh it is a touch less noisy slightly better dynamic range and is still very smooth but video on the s24 still falls short of video from the iPhone5 especially when it comes to how it adjusts the exposure white balance and focus now overall the s24 still has a strong camera system albeit with only minor upgrades compared to last year I would have liked to see Samsung do more especially when it comes to the ultrawide and telephoto lenses let's talk about performance now with the s24 Samsung went back to using two processors depending on which region you buy so for example uh in the US China as well as Japan you will get the Snapdragon 8 gen 3 chip by qualcom where here in the UK uh like in rest of Europe as well as India you get the exos 2400 chip by Samsung in the past the exos chip has typically performed worse in terms of performance as well as battery life compared to its Qualcomm counterpart however today thankfully uh this difference is less drastic showing around a 5 to 10% difference both in GPU as well as CPU test and even less difference in battery life for me in the UK uh with the exos version of the s24 my experience has actually been great it feels Snappy and fast as I would expect it also keeps up well in games and never got overly warm all this is to say that while I don't like that Samsung went back to using two different chips after all the Snapdragon chip is still better the difference is now small enough to where I wouldn't worry about it and wouldn't let it impact your purchase decision thankfully both the Snapdragon and the exos variants of the s24 will get up to 7 years of software support and security updates now this I love to see the battery inside the s24 is slightly bigger now at 4,000 Milah hours and battery life for me has been good and also consistent with around 7 hours of screen on time which I would say is slightly better than on the s23 and similar to the iPhone 15 I do wish Samsung had improved the charge spe speeds as the s24 is still limited to 25 watts unlike the s24 plus and also the ultra which can go up to 45 watts and this means that charging the s24 from 0 to 100 will take around 1 and 1 half hours now don't get me wrong this is not an issue at night but if you ever do need a quick top up well that top up won't be so quick so should you buy the Samsung Galaxy s24 well to me the s24 is a compelling and generally well-rounded phone with some good improvements uh and welcome new features that I don't think you'll regret Buy but still I can't help but feel that Samsung could have done more and this makes it now more affordable s23 look quite attractive too now I do have an in-depth comparison between the s24 and the s23 coming very soon so be sure to stay tuned to not miss that and in the meantime let me know if you have any questions at all I'd love to hear your thoughts on the s24 and if you haven't seen it yet I highly recommend checking out my s24 top tips and tricks video to get the full potential out of your s24 thank you so much for watching and I'll see you in the next video take care
