Achieving Your Goals in 2024

we are officially halfway through 2024 and I want to ask you how many of your goals have you accomplished so far what on your vision board has actually come true now the fact that you clicked on this video tells me that maybe you have not gotten very far maybe you didn't even start and that is the case with a lot of us we create our resolutions and our vision boards at the beginning of the year but then as the days go by we just forget about them and then at the end of the year we wonder why we have made no progress at all so if you don't want this to be another wasted year you have to keep on watching because I am going to teach you how to set out on a journey where you fearlessly pursue your goals you do the things that you really want to do and you become the best version of yourself in the next 6 months I want you to overcome your self-doubt break your habits of mediocrity and truly create a life that you love and the six steps that I'm going to give you in this video will help you do exactly that so grab your notebook grab a cup of coffee if you're watching it during the day and hit that thumbs up because that helps the algorithm and let's get started the reason that you are not able to achieve your goals is not because you are not disciplined it's because you don't have Clarity on what to be disciplined about tell me if this resonates with you you want to earn more money you want to get get fit you want to eat clean you want to have great relationships you want to spend your weekends with your friends you also want to focus on your hobbies and you also want to start a side hustle all at the same time and so you do not end up making progress in any single Direction this is because your attention your focus is divided attention is like water when it's loose it's unstructured it's like rain it's falling you can probably fill a bucket with it but it's going to take you a lot of time and it's harmless but when you turn it into a jet and focus it on a very small surface area you can even cut through Stone and steel so your first step is going to be to pick one or at Max two goals to focus on for the next six months this is going to become your narrow field of vision so of course you will need to sit and sift through your goal list and pick the most high priority goal right now what is your top priority right now what is that thing that if you do or accomplish in the next 6 months is going to impact or change every aspect of your life so one of my goals for the next 6 months is losing weight because my health has an impact on every single aspect of my existence and my second goal is achieving the income number that I set for myself at the beginning of the year because if I achieve that that will give me so much leverage and freedom of choice in the next few years to truly pursue whatever ever I want to pursue now one of the biggest objections that people have when they try to zero in on one or two goals is that they will miss out on fun stuff they will miss out on weekends with friends they will miss out on parties or they will miss out on traveling that fear that other people are going to have more fun than them or will be doing better than them at things but just take a pause and ask yourself if you feel unfulfilled at the end of the year and you feel like you've not made any progress will that make you feel like you've missed out on [Music] life if you can resist the temptation of an immediate reward for a more substantial reward in the future nobody can stop you from achieving what you want and the best part is that you can train yourself to do this but how exactly one is use loss aversion to your advantage now loss aversion is a concept in behavioral economics and psychology which suggests that the pain of losing something is psychologically more impactful than the pleasure of gaining something for example if you lose out on a promotion it's going to be more painful than the pleasure of actually gaining a promotion because that will get lost in your sea of goals and you'll just want to accomplish another goal after that right isn't that how it works so if you are concerned about missing out on life while you pursue these one or two goals for the next 6 months quantify what is the pain of losing out on your goals going to look like for example if you don't work on your side hustle right now for this next 6 months if you don't lose this weight right now what will you lose out on write down the most extreme harshest possible scenario of losing out in your goals of not fulfilling your goals and these will then act as a better motivator for you as compared to the motivation of that pleasure when you get when you don't miss out on stuff I know that this sounds extreme but it's super effective and sometimes when we are giving ourselves too many excuses the only way to cut down on them is to take Extreme Measures and the second thing you want to do to delay gratification is tie a substantial reward to your goal let's say that your goal is to make 50 lakhs by the end of the year tie that achievement of that goal to a substantial reward like you get to travel to your favorite destination if you earn 50 lakhs in this year or you buy your parents something that they've always wanted but couldn't afford delaying gratification helps you eliminate feelings of Shame and guilt and regret and instead they help you take pride in your choices you know that if you accomplish this goal today in the next 6 months you are going to be able to afford that thing that your parents want you are going to be able to afford that trip that you want to take to Iceland to see Aurora boreales so instead of feeling sorry for yourself for not going to a party or on missing out on fun in the moment you feel empowered by your choices you feel empowered in doing so because you know it's it's taking you closer to that thing that thing that you really want to achieve now most of us set goals that are result based right I just did it multiple times in this video I said that I want to lose weight or I want to get to my goal income gaining muscle gaining a million subscribers all of these are examples of result based goals right and these are important they tell us what we truly desire what we need to focus our energy on but the reason that most of us are never able to achieve these goals is because one they are vague and two they are not measurable so for the next 6 months what you want to do instead is quantify your goals and then break that large goal down into a series of actions that are actually measurable for example let's say that you want to lose weight step one how much weight do you want to lose let's say that it's 10 kilos right great now what actions do you need to take every day to get there in 6 months you will need to eat in a calorie deficit obviously you will need to work out regularly sounds more structured but this is still vague so quantify it further how many calories should you eat so let's say you do your BMR calculations and that comes down to, 1500 calories daily now this is super specific you know that you need to eat, 1500 or less calories every single day to be able to lose 10 kilos in the next 6 months right and then you can actually track it on a food tracking app you can measure your food intake every single day to know whether you are taking that action that you need to take every single day similarly instead of just saying a workout regularly you say I will do strength training three times a week and do cardio two times a week and then you go on the internet figure out a 12 week plan which gives you 3 days of strength training and it has structured workouts that you can follow from one step to the last without getting overwhelmed that is super specific and measurable you are able to track your progress you're able to track whether you did those exercises every single week how much weight did you lift did you progress every single week and that is extremely important when you do this this just means that every single day you can track your progress you can focus on the action without getting overwhelmed by your overarching goal sometimes when we just look at the result and when we don't uh account for the system of the actions it can seem more and more daunting every single day to get to that goal because we are reminded that we've not done anything today to get closer to that goal so doing this which is setting action-based goals for your daily steps and tracking those actions every single day basically takes away all of that overwhelm and if you're the kind of person who feels overwhelmed by the concept of consistency if you feel like being consistent is being restrictive or something like that remind yourself of the butterfly effect Butterfly Effect is the theory that small insignificant changes in a complex system can actually have large unpredictable consequences over time so put your faith in the these tiny changes and just try it out for the next 6 months it's not your entire life it is an experiment that you're doing for the next six months doing things even if you're not good at it our perfectionist Tendencies stem from our fear of failure our fear of being judged and this fear just keeps us in the same place over and over again it becomes an excuse to not take action because if you never take action you are never going to fail and you are never going to be judged fear is the driving force of mediocrity and it's a learned behavior you have to remember that if you are not working towards your own future you are working towards somebody else's if you do not invest time and energy into an identity that you want to create for yourself you will invest that time an energy into an identity that has been assigned to you and that is why action imperfect action becomes so important everything we do in life from walking to eating with a spoon to driving or riding a bicycle has been the result of imperfect actions done repeatedly till they became second nature so for the next 6 months I want you to take action on everything that you set your mind to be purposely imperfect tell yourself that you want to make these mistakes that you want it to be imperfect that you want to be criticized for your mistakes because for your mind if you want it then it's not something to be afraid of if you want it that means that there's no space for doubt or hesitation the action doesn't have to be delayed and you do not have to wait to be perfect so now one objection or one query that people can have here is that they're not afraid of failure they don't want to be perfect but they're still struggling to take action and that is because we take actions that align with our concept of self or our self identity if if you do not fundamentally believe that you are worthy of a great life you will not act in accordance to it your actions follow the beliefs that you have about yourself so you have to start by believing that your ideal life is possible do whatever it takes affirmations meditation mindfulness practices daily journaling writing about yourself in the present tense that reframe your mind into believing that what you want is actually possible one of my favorite ways to shift my negative self-perception is to remind myself that the reason I want something is because a version of me already has it that thought that desire would not come into my mind if I was not capable of taking the actions to fulfill that desire in the first place if you have the vision of an ideal life it has come into your mind because it is meant for you and you have to continuously work on this belief this mindset because we are constantly bombarded with things that fuel our self doubt we are constantly given so much information that goes against our belief system our belief of wanting the best for ourself and that is why you continuously have to work on this mindset especially for the next 6 months and simultaneously you also need to start taking action acting like your ideal self start taking the actions that your ideal self will take and do it on a smaller scale if you feel overwhelmed if you feel like you need time to build up start small but start taking action right now for example if your ideal self is a writer they are going to be writing every single day right that that's what writers do but if you're not there yet and you want to get there what is the first step that you need to take you need to start writing it does not have to be for 4 hours a day it can just be for 10 minutes a day but you need to start incorporating that action into your life right now because it also creates that identity shift for you plus taking continuous action makes you invest mental energy towards your goals right this basically makes you want to continue making effort in that direction for example if you have been eating clean for a month you will want to continue eating clean because you do not want to ruin your progress by one Temptation or one craving now this is the positive effect of the sunk cost fallacy it helps you build momentum and that momentum takes you to your goals so for the next 6 months you are going to commit to taking the smallest possible action towards your goals every single day so if your goal is to do strength training three times a week and do cardio twice a week you are going to get up and get out of your house and go to the gym every single day even if it is just for 10 minutes even if you just go to the gym and come back that taking that action of showing up is extremely [Music] important romanticize your routine and gamify your hard work instead of thinking of everything that you have to do all the actions that you have to do to get to this goal instead of thinking of them like a chore like a burden figure out how you can make them more enjoyable you are not going to do something for the long term if you do not find it fun for instance on my fitness journey I like to make pretty looking food I like to decorate my plate aesthetically because that makes me feel nice I also like to take pictures of my food because that makes me feel invested that makes that process eating clean fun for me I like to close all the rings on my Apple watch and that is a process that I use to gamify my workouts and that makes it a lot more fun I also use the tracking feature to compete with other friends and that's also a huge motivator so I have found these little little hacks that make this entire process more fun for me and that helps me stick to it longer and better similarly when it comes to work I love checking off my to-do list at the end of the day and it makes me feel like I've made so much progress towards my goals I also like doing this level up playing thing which is sort of what happens in video games where when I am on my journey towards a particular goal I think of each Milestone as a level and as soon as I complete that Milestone I level up in the game and if I reach the end goal then I have finished the game and I have won it right so it's a mental shift mostly for me but you can also create like a chart you can give yourself a star every time you level up every time you achieve a milestone every time you fulfill that little bit of thing and that acts as such a huge boost of motivation and you can also tie all of these Milestones to rewards like I spoke about earlier so one of my goals this year was to save x amount of money in the first quarter and if I did then I would buy myself an iPad and so I saved that much money and I went ahead and bought myself an iPad and that motivated me to do the same thing over again so that I can fulfill my next goal now despite everything despite all of these methods that we have put in place there are still going to be days where you have setbacks there are still going to be days when you do not achieve what you set out to achieve there are going to be days when you don't follow your trajectory exactly when you don't take the action that you're supposed to take that day your growth journey is not a linear upward graph like this right it looks something like this the difference between people who get to the top and people who just stay where they are is whether they take failure in their stride or whether they give up at the first sign of resistance so for the next 6 months I want you to focus on just this one mindset shift whenever you are faced with failure instead of just giving up in the moment or feeling like you've given up ask yourself if this thing is not working for me how can I make it work for me if you are unable to reach the destination change the route not the destination this is a very important quote to remember you guys let me give you an example let's say that you set out to do three strength training days in a week while going to the gym because you wanted to build muscle and lose weight but you were not able to go two days in this week right now one thing that people would do is okay I've not gone two days let me not go the entire week I will try next week and let me also binge eat and let me also eat junk that is an example of giving up in the moment but you don't want to do that you don't want to give up right there and then and you don't want to skip out on all of the rest of your progress what you want to do instead well this week I was not able to go to the gym 5 days I was only able to go 3 days but why was I not able to go for all the 5 days how can I adjust my schedule how can I adjust my gym timing how what can I do in my day-to-day life that allows me to fulfill that goal of going to the gym five times a week what is it that I can do to make it work for me and that is the question you have to ask yourself every any time you feel like throwing in the towel you feel like giving up and just losing out on all your progress right see failure on your path is basically a signal that something needs to change it's not a label that stays with you forever if you failed at something you are not a failure it just means that you failed at that thing another thing failure does is it gives you chances to PIV it it tells you what's not working and how you can redirect to actually make it work for you so for example example I have two failed businesses at this point in time I have quit my job over five six times I have had 10 different freelancing gigs before getting to this stage in my life those are all of the things that actually helped me reach here to do what I am doing at present but I never would have gotten here if those failures didn't happen in the first place they would never have let me pivot and figure out what is my actual path in life and that is why failures are so important and to treat them as lessons is even more important step one start by picking one or two goals that you want to focus on for the next 6 months treat these like an experiment you're giving yourself 6 months of your life that's peanuts when it compares to the entire duration of the rest of your life step two you are going to create a list of three super specific actions that are going to help you get to these goals the fastest for instance if you want to lose weight your three actions are going to be eating, 1500 calories per day strength training three times a week and cardio three times a week super specific action-based goals that you can track step three create a list of the smallest possible action that you need to take for you to check it off as something that you've done towards your goal today right so again let's take the weight loss example this can look like working out for just 10 minutes every single day even though you're supposed to go to the gym uh for an hour every day 10 minutes is your Baseline right so no matter what 10 minutes to uh in terms of calories this can look like not going over 1,600 calories no matter what now this is the smallest action that you need to take every single day regardless of whatever happens right step four you are not going to give up even if there is a break in your schedule even if you didn't take that action that day even if there is a setback you are going to ask yourself how can I make this work for myself and then figure out that path pivot and take that action you are going to get back to routine the next day you are not going to skip at the first sign of resistance I am actually going to wait for you to come back and give me an update on this video in the next 6 months about what goal you accomplished and which of these steps actually worked out the best for you now if you want even more motivation go ahead and check out this video next and I am going to see you very very soon in the next one my lovely bye
