  • Purpose: Regain control with intention.

Protocol Overview

  • Three Steps: Preparation, Execution, Restoration.
  • Goal: Real growth, improved focus, and mental clarity.

Part 1: Preparation

Purpose

  • Importance of Regaining Focus: Understanding the consequences of inaction.
  • Key Questions: Why is it important for you to regain focus? What will happen if you don't?

Cutting

  • Four Non-Negotiable Categories to Cut:
    1. Binge Tech: Social media, TV, video games, forums, political news.
    2. Unhealthy Sex: Pornography, masturbation, dating apps.
    3. Consumables: Alcohol, recreational drugs, junk food.
    4. Thrill-Seeking Behaviors: Gambling, shopping sprees, extreme sports.

Duration

  • Suggested Time Frame: At least 7 days. Can extend to 30 days but not necessary for longer.
  • Biological Basis: Resting the brain to return to a state of balance (homeostasis).

Part 2: Execution

  • Expect Emotional Challenges: Anxiety, discomfort, loneliness, frustration, boredom.
  • Three Daily Practices:
    1. Self-Reflection: 10 minutes of meditation, journaling, or gratitude practice.
    2. Exercise: Any physical activity for at least 30 minutes.
    3. Connect: Real conversations with another person.

Part 3: Restoration

Reintroduction

  • Careful Consideration: Reintroduce cut-out activities based on values and goals.
  • Key Questions: What do you value? What kind of person do you want to be? Do these activities align with your values?

Anti-Fragility Concept

  • Origin: From Nassim Nicholas Taleb’s concept of anti-fragility.
  • Goal: To become stronger and more intentional after detox.

Personal Examples

  • Social Media: Limited reintroduction with intentional use and time limits.
  • Technology: Thoughtful reintegration based on value and purpose.
