you can you have Links at the description for PayPal YouTube thanks and Patron all right so let's begin now this device is way too big to cover on a single video like I usually do I will walk you through most of what you can do with the 404 but I will be uploading other videos just to cover very specific topics still if you're starting with your SP 404 this video is where you need to be how this unit works is by holding projects you have 16 projects where you can store patterns and all the samples if you go to shift press and hold and then go to subad notice at the bottom it says projects is going to give you or Flash the project you have selected in this case I'm standing on the project number one but if I wanted to go to the project number 16 just tap the 16 and then you're standing on this the project number 16 in this case I'm going to be going back to the project number one it's going to take a little bit more because I have a lot of samples and then one inside the project each Bank can hold up to 16 different sounds right and if I tap it again it's going to go to the second bank which is in this case is going to be the F and right there you have other 16 sounds so again you have 10 different banks you can go to all different banks but just by tapping and from Factory the project number one comes with comes with projects and pattern pattern loaded so if I go to the number J the number J by default it's empty if I press something I get just nothing and right here the colors are super important because when you're standing on this orange type of color it means that you're in Sample mode it means that you play press a pad and it's going to be playing whatever sound but then if you go to pattern select now you're standing in pattern select mode and it's going to Blink a purple type of color maybe the camera is just not picking it up but it's uh purple and this means that you now you're if you're standing on Bank a you can select one of the 16 different patterns that you can create and store on the bank a or maybe on the bank F or maybe on the bank D I'm going to go to the bank uh a if you press a pad is going to be playing a pattern and by you know from Factory you get uh a lot of projects and demos that comes with the unit on the uh the project number one all the different all the other projects are just completely empty so I'm standing on the a it means I have 16 different patterns if I go to the next one it's going to Q to the next pattern and that's normal when this is done it's going to play the next if I go to four for example is going to wait for for this to be over to go to the number four still what you can do if you don't want to wait you can hold the sub pad and just tap a pattern and it's going to go and play that pattern it will not cue to the next one if you're playing a pattern and you tap it again is going to stop but when you tap it again it will always start from the beginning you can also go to shift just hold it and then press the hold it means that you are pausing the playback it's not stopping tapping the pad so if I press it again shift and halt it will just continue the playback if you want to stop the playback without tapping the different pattern you just press exit and it will stop and it will take you back to the pattern select mode when you're standing on pattern select remember this needs to be on and this needs to be purple flashing or steady uh the display is going to give you a lot of information of the pattern that you're playing back if I play the first one it's going to tell you right there on the display the position the current position length of the pattern bpms and which pattern it's playing back like I said before on the project number one uh from Factory you get the 16 different patterns for a track and if you notice this is a performance if I go to the next one it's using the 16 sounds that we have on that bank on Bank a but if I go maybe to a different bank maybe the B and I play that maybe uh the pan number one is going to be a different track right it's a completely different track so if you think about this you have a lot of different patterns on a single project that you can use and of course a lot of different samples again exit to stop the playback to get out of the pattern select mode you just need to press the pattern select and it will go back to the default uh mode which is going to be the sample mode when in Sample mode remember the orange pads you just play the different pads and you will be getting a sound that is what what is called sample mode if you go to the J which is the last uh Bank you have nothing this me this means that you don't have any sounds uh loaded and the same things uh the same thing happens with the pattern select if you go to the pattern select and then go to the bank J it's going to be completely empty if I go to maybe to the bank number a and I st stand on pattern select and maybe I just play a sample um actually I'm standing on the f so I'm going to go to the a you can exit the pattern select while this is still playing back you can go to maybe a different bank it doesn't matter which bank and you can play the pads on top of the pattern now if I go to the bank number a which is where the pattern that I'm playing back exists it will show you or light up when that pad is playing how the tempo works is very interesting you have the tempo of each individual sample and you can see something that says BPM sync this has to do with each of each sample we're going to talk about that later when we get to sample edit but then you have the project Tempo and the bank uh Tempo the bank bpms so you can go to shift and press the 11 it says tap Tempo it will take you to this screen and it it says project and Bank D if I go to pattern select and I play you know maybe a pattern it doesn't matter get out of here go to pattern select I play the first pattern I can do remember shift and then 11 which is the to Tempo and I'm going to go down in volume it's just a little bit too loud and this is going to tell you okay so the tempo is 84 so you can use the encoder to modify the tempo and of course it goes fast or you can go slow now the thing is right here you can choose between Bank Tempo and project Tempo you can maybe the a be playing on a 6 and maybe you can go to the D Project D or Bank D play a pattern that lives inside the bank D and be playing you know a different Tempo like it's right now so yeah it's just completely up to you each of the banks can have different Tempo but you can go to the controller number one which is this one and just select project so now all the banks will use the same tempo then again just completely up to you if I go to the bank when I go to different BS L is that the tempo is changing now another thing that you can see right here at the bottom it says that sub pad to tap this is to tap Tempo on the screen you just need to tap whatever Tempo is that you want and of course is going to do it now when you change the tempo depending on which samples that you're using on that pattern well they're going to sound a little bit funny or not it all depends on the samples we're going to again talk about this much later all right so this is how this unit works you have samples the different banks that you are where you're going to be hosting those samples and then you know you go to the bank where you're going to be hosting that uh pattern now if I go to the F and I play this pack is going to play a performance and this is how it comes from Factory and how this unit wants you to think if you're standing on the bank F and you host 16 patters you're going to be getting in this case a performance that belongs to the bank F and this Bank F it's using the 16 samples that live inside the bank F now do you really need to use it this uh way you can only use 16 sounds to create a one pattern no when you create a pattern you can use samples or sounds that live within other uh different banks because mainly this works by project you are working on the project number one so all the samples that you can you can use are inside the project number one and it's not just per bank and it's again completely up to you the internal memory of the unit is 16 GB and when you want a sound from the outside you need to import it from the outside but only to those 16 GB of local memory and then you assign it maybe to an empty pad right here let's say we're going to put a sound right here and that that sample is going to live within those 16 GB this unit will never read maybe uh information maybe data from an an SD car live right you need to import it first so when you play back a sample like the one that we have right here it's because it lives within those 16 GB now you can import sounds from an SD card I have one right here or you can do it from your computer if you just bought this and you don't have an SD card and you want to load your sounds don't worry I'm going to show you in a minute how to do it with the application now when you have an SD card loaded right here first what you will need to do is you need to format the SD card how can you do it well when you when it's loaded on your device you need to go to shift and then the pad number 14 is going to be Import and Export if you go right there it's going to give you a few options the display and the value will let you navigate the different options you can import but first again remember if you never formatted the card you need to format the SD card once you're ready you just push this and it will do the format once you put your SD card in your computer this is what you're going to be getting the backup export and import and every time that you export from your SP it's going to go to backup and Export but if you want to import sounds you need to put them inside import if I go if I go here it's going to show you a directory called sample and here is where you uh put all your samples in this case I have some Amon brakes if I double click I have a lot of different am brakes now that I have some samples in some some sounds inside that sample directory I'm going to put the SD card inside the sp44 now I'm going to do shift and remember is the 14 the Import and Export I'm going to tap it and it's going to give you that menu again so right here now we can go to import uh from SD card or we can export to SD card uh we need to push the value to enter to import and it will ask you what do you want to import in this case I want samples and right here you know we can see the same directory that we see on our computer if I go to sample it will let you know what you have inside and you can just push to enter and now if you I'm going to go down volume if you scroll through different samples it's going to let you audition the sample now how can we assign it to a pad so if you want let's say that I want to you know assign that sample I need to select an empty pad or I need to select a pad if you uh have a pad right here and remember we are in Sample mode uh if it's orange kind of a dim orange it means that you already have a sample it's not empty if I go to the J we know that that bank has nothing so they're going to Blink this means that you don't have a sample assigned to that pad you can assign it if you assign it to something that you where you already have a sound is going to be replacing the sample so you need to be careful with this so okay I'm standing on the J I know that uh this uh pads are empty so if I tap the number one I'm going to be selecting that pad where I can be uh putting the sound and just to confirm I'm going to be pushing enter it's going to take a little while and now this has that sample if I go maybe to a different pad and notice now it's red and this is because I'm selecting a pad where we already have sound right that I'm break but now I'm going to go maybe to a different pad different sound and I'm going to be loading it on the number two I'm going to push push enter and then maybe I go to a different sound it doesn't matter right now and I go to the number three and I'm going to be pushing to confirm when you want to exit from this screen you just keep tapping exit and it will go out all right so once you import your samples to your to the pads that you want you're importing it to the Local 16 GB of memory right I play this and it's playing back if I remove the SD card the SD card the only thing that this does is going to you can use it to import sounds to those 16 gigb you don't read information or sounds from the SD card that is that I'm still doing it and you know it plays even though I don't have the SD card loaded now if you stand on maybe an empty sample this one is empty and I hold the remain and just tap the sample at the top is going to let you know the storage avaal is going to be 14 of 16 gigb right and again it's just important that you remember that you only have 16 so you need to be very selective when you import samples if they are long and heavy samples well it's going to eat up your your 16 gbt of memory now if you hold the remain on an empty pad again it's going to give you information about your storage but if you select a pad I'm going to be selecting a pad and do remain it's going to give you a lot of information about that sample the name of the sample the uh length of the sample if it's stereo the original BPM that is going to to uh recognize when you import sample and a lot of other things that got to do with that specific sample but always at the top it will let you know how much storage you have available what if you want to delete the samples that you already have right here well in Sample mode the only thing that you need to do is to go to delete just press it and notice that they will go purple so let's say I want to delete this I'm going to be pressing this is going to select it or let it up and when I do delete it's going to say operation completed and it's going going to remove that sample now remember this is removing the sample from those 16 G gigaby of memory so it's very destructive if you remove it you don't get it back but you know that you imported this from your from your SD card so you can import it again all right so what if you don't have an SD card you can use the application this is now connected to through USB so you can download the companion app right from Rolland and then right here you can maybe uh choose uh one of the 16 different projects I'm going to go maybe to the 16 and now notice that all the pads are just empty right so now what I want to do I need to do I just need to drag and drop the different sounds I'm going to go to the bank number a and the pad number one just dragging and dropping a sample it's going to take just a minute and once it's done it's just going to show you that it's done I'm going to be dropping maybe a second sample it's going to take just a minute and there you go now right here on my project on on this uh you know on the device it's uh standing on the project number 16 is going to let you know right there so if I go to the bank a you know I have the samples right here so you don't really need an SD card to load a samples and to you know do the backup and everything else you can do it if you connect it to your computer now the SD card is super useful so you can use this device on the go right you don't need to connect it to a computer that's the whole point I guess yes right so let's do something a little bit more fun let's create some patterns on the sp44 universe you have two ways of creating patterns it's the live recording and the trre I'm not going to show you trre on this video it's the classic step sequencer type of type of sequence uh I'm going to be uploading a new video just expanding on that alone now to record a pattern you need to stand on pattern select I'm going to go there and of course we need to do some recording once you do rack before it starts recording you you need to select the pattern uh all the red ones are just pads inside the banks that already have a pattern in this case if we keep moving forward you know everything is occupied because I'm using the project number one that already has a lot of information if I go to the bank J they will blink if it it's blinking it means that it's empty so we can select a pattern so I'm going to be recording on pattern number one of the bank J once you do so once you select it it's going to give you this screen now the screen it's really important to is the record settings everything that you do on your pads when you record is going to be using this now the controller one can change the bpms we can hear the metronome at the back and if you do shift you can of course do tiny little amounts I'm going to still go to back to zero right so that's dbpm then you can select the length of your recording by default it's going to be two bars but you can go all the way up to 64 I'm going to be just doing one single bar and then is your quantization with the controller tree three if you go all the way down it's going to be uh pretty much not quantized it's going to do less effort to quantize but as as you go up uh is going to quantize it more so if you suck at finger drumming like I do maybe using U you know high value on the strength it's a good idea now still right here with the encoder you have the grit with the quantization settings by default is going to quantize it to 16 steps but you can choose different values 30 seconds or you can even turn it off and if you go to the other other side eight and if you go to the other side you're going to find the shuffle and right here you can find tune the shuffle so you have different ways of quantizing on this device which is you know great still I'm going to go to 16 and again I suck at finger drumming so I'm going to be going all the way up on the strength another thing that you can do if you hold shift press and hold shift is going to give you two new options which is the metronome volume all the way up to five or you can go all the way down to nothing I'm going to leave it on maybe two another thing you can do you can change the time signature from here and we can do some Walts 3 four right and you have a lot of options I'm going to leave it in 4 four and I'm going to just release the shift and once you're ready with all the settings right here at the top the only thing that you need to do is just press wreck and it will start to count in it will count in one measure it will start recording I'm going to press wreck and counts in one measure and then it starts recording and now it's actually recording so I could go in the bank J Bank J I have no samples so I need to navigate to a different a different bank and then I can record [Music] something there you go that's not simple you just tap away and it's going to record and since I'm using a hard Quant ation is going to you know do it for me now notice that the rack is on when it's on it means that your recording but if you press it again while recording it's going to Brink blink and Noti it says when you tap it it's going to say recording on the screen or it says rehearsal and it means that when you're in rehearsal you can play some other tabs and just practice before you record it now one thing that maybe you didn't notice is that maybe some sometimes I'm going to be if I tap it very softly or very hard the veloc this is very sensitive to Velocity I'm going to give you going to give you a couple tips about how setting up the velocity but if you want to you can do shift and tap the number one and then it says fix the velocity on so whatever whenever you play a pad it will always be 127 which is going to be pretty loud so let's say I don't want what I did well when you do shift you do Pann select you need to hold the shift notice at the bottom it says undo so you can undo whatever is that you recorded right and right here it will show you the amounts of undos that you have left this case you know I have room the thing is that this is not a computer it cannot remember all the undos can remember all all the history so you have a certain amount of undos that you can do now I'm going to be turning the velocity on fix velocity on so every time I play it's going to be Max velocity I'm going to start recording back again and we're going to be doing pretty much the same thing there you go notice it's much louder and I'm got to go down in volume and it's because of course the velocity one just max so all the pads are just full volume now let's say I didn't like the hats I recorded so well you can do undo but maybe you recorded some other things and just to get to the Hat you need to delete the other things what you can do you can go to Dell and notice that when you press it the pads go kind of a blueish and it will show you right here bling it will blink the things that you recorded now when in standing standing on the Dell you can do playback erase meaning that meaning means that whenever this is playing back when you press and hold it is going to delete it delete steps as you play back right this case just erase the whole hat if I do maybe one tiny little part of the snare that it just erased one single snare now if we we can hold just several pads at the same time and whatever is that you recorded is gone now and of course you cannot get it back notice that you don't have an Indo for this so make sure that when you delete something it's because you really want to delete it now to get out of the delete mode I'm going to be pressing delete and remember that if you are recording you can record something then and now we do have something now what I want to do if I want to stop stop recording I just need to you know if you go press wreck it will not stop recording but if you press exit it will get out of that mode and we are back to the pattern select I can go to other patterns and just you know play other patterns all right if you want to stop the playback you just press exit again and it will stop now let's say that this pattern is really cool I would love to to take it to maybe the pad number two to the pattern number two and expand it right there well right here you have the copy when you're pattern select you can press copy select the one that you want to copy not it says J1 I'm copying this one and then I need to tap where I want to uh paste it so I'm copying this I'm pasting it on the number two and to confirm you just need to go right here and just press it and the operation it's complete now if I play this is the same pattern than this one right all right so that's how you can copy a a pattern if you want to delete them well you just need to go to Dell in pattern select when not recording go to Dell and just select the patterns that you want to delete and then you press delete and they are gone and again this is a very destructive type of thing so make sure that you really want to delete them now I'm going to give you some tips when recording some additional things that you really maybe need to use because this can do a lot it has a lot of options so you really need to decide what what is VE best for your workflow for example if I just go to shift and hold it the number nine is going to be the metronome so if we are recording you can turn off the metronome on off and I'm going to be doing that I'm going to stand on pattern select remember we are you know we have we are pattern select I'm going to do wreck and I'm going to be going to the J just the same thing we did a minute ago and I'm going to be standing right here if I do shift and go to metronome nothing happens because we are in this screen I'm going to be recording just one single bar and I'm going to start the recording right now it comes in that's fine if you want to turn off the metronome just shift and number nine and it will turn it off now another thing that you get and I'm going to exit here is going to be the count in when we hit record when we you know we are ready with that screen and we press wreck and we are start we're ready to record is going to count in one measure and that it's fine if that is what you want to do but you do have options I'm going to hold the shift and I'm going to go to the 10 the 10 it says count in I'm going to press it and it says two measures that it's going to say count in weight then off and then one measure by up from Factory it's going to be one measure so you press wreck it's going to count one measure and then you can record but you can wait for two measures or you can wait or you can just turn it off meaning that you press wreck and it will start recording immediately now the one I like is going to be the weight the one that says count in weight and I'm going to show you why I'm standing on pattern select I'm going to press recck to record a pattern and I'm going to be selecting this pattern and I'm just using pretty much the same the same configuration so now when I press wreck if I'm counting in it will count in one measure and I will quickly need to go to maybe other Banks to play samples from other Banks so maybe there's no it's not enough time so when you select the weight the recording will begin when you start playing just a different way of starting the recording so now notice it's just not counting in so I could go maybe to I don't know the bank b or G or whatever and then when I start record start playing then it will kick in there I go just much easier crappy playing what if you're just playing back this pattern or maybe what whatever other pattern and you want to start recording well the only thing that you need to do to start recording recording on top of this pattern is just to press wreck now notice that it will not give you the configuration screen so but you are standing on the same mode right we can record and it will just do it and you can use your rehearsal and everything else but what we don't get is the record settings this doesn't mean that you don't get it you still have it right here it says record settings so when I press it it will give you a version of you know what we have when we start a new recording so you can still alter your BPM right that's fine you can still alter your quantization and the mode that you're going quantizing so maybe you're recording something or you have something really uh on the grid and now you want to record to 30 seconds well you just go right here to the record settings you change your settings and then you just go to the pad and record something and the shift will give you the metronome volume is still you know if it's still still a little bit annoying what you lose right here is going to be the time signature and you lose the length of the of the pattern because you are you know you're recording it so you cannot change it still much later you know couple minutes we're going to talk about the pattern edit we can change it from there from Factory the configuration of the pads has a has a certain curve maybe the pads are way too sensitive you can configure this you have different profiles so if you go to shift and then go to pad number 13 I'm going to go there is going to take you to the main menu now this is like the you main menu like the main settings of the whole device you have a lot of options right here but right here on the pat settings the number 16 it says Pat settings so if I go there it's going to give you different options to configure uh the sensitivity of your pads right here you have different profiles you're going to need to navigate with the value encoder and whenever you want to enter to a value to modify it you can just press and just push the value encoder and then notice that it has different curves and right here um and notice you can even just make them all fixed for good right here you just need to uh experiment just a little bit and select the profile that you like the most also at the top and maybe this is the topic for a different a different video because it's just way too long you can configure the lets which is the color and the brightness of all your pads the bus color and you know different colors uh we guess I'm going to be uploading a new video going through the to the settings right here you know the 13 the pad 13 and showing you what you can do with the settings now I guess I didn't show you the 16 velocity I'm going to show you show you right now I'm going to go to here to shift and number two and you have the 16 velocity and this one is really cool when you enter to this screen it will tell you the bank uh that you're uh using and the pad that you have selected and this is because when I did shift and then number two I was you know selecting a pad and for now I'm going to be doing maybe some claps right and make sure the velocity is off the fixed velocity I'm just going to press some some some uh snares or claps when I go to fix to 16 velocity all the different pths and it's showing you right here that we play will be playing that sample that we selected which is on the back B the pad 14 so all the different samples will have different velocities and when you recording you can just record different pads and it will record different velocities that's that's why it's called 16 velocity all right so now I'm going to go to pattern select I'm going to be recording something I'm going to stand on the oh of course I need to do wreck I'm going to stand on the J select an empty pattern I'm going to be maybe going a little bit faster it's just way too slow and then I'm going to go to one single bar and I'm going to quantize it as hell so now again I want to record something I'm going to go to the number a and I have the Velocity fixed on that's why you know it's just you know all the way up but now I'm going to be turning this off and I'm going to be using this pad and I made a mistake right here because this recording I need to undo how how useful the undo is I'm going to select that one and I'm going to be doing record again and now I'm going to go to the 16 velocity so whatever we record right here is going to be with different velocities right so this is quiet and this one is just much uh you know louder uh to get out of here you just need to do exit so whenever you need to really record something with different velocities the 16 velocity it's something you know super useful all right so now what I want to do I want to use a sample as keys so we need to use the chromatic mode now you need to stand on the sound that you want to use I'm going to be using the bank C and then this sound by default fault it's a pretty long sample this is what comes from Factory and it's because this is part of a whole performance if you want to see how long the sample is going to the start end will show you the whole waveform but we're going to talk about this much later I want you to use this as keys so since this one is selected now is the last one I played shift and then pad number four will take you to the chromatic mode now when you're standing on the chromatic mode right here it will let you know which pad you have selected which is you know the seven of the back SE and notice that the pad colors they change you have a kind of a seon or maybe bluish light light blue color and then a purple color so this is the octaves this is going to be your root and it it says zero every time I play it so this means that you can go 12 up and 12 down so 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 and the value encoder will offset the root so if I go up it will show you the rest ones right here so 1 2 3 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 well actually it's 12 this one right if I go to the other side uh it's going to be going down this is the rout but then it's going to be 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 and 12 you can go 12 down so this is how you can transpose or is you know play different pitches of a sample now there's more to this if you hold shift instead of trans transposing or just moving the scale or the grid up and down like this you can go by once holding shift notice that it's now moving by once this is the root this is down and then maybe I can go right here and just make this one the root and this one one down and so on and so on and so on so you can by holding shift move by One semmit Tone now when you stand on the chromatic mode by default it's going to say chromatic so you're standing on the chromatic mode which is fine if you tap it you're going to get three more options which is going to to be the major the minor and then the Dorian and then the frien four different options if you push it again it's going to go back to Chromatic so you can choose a different scale you don't have the Exotic scales you just need to work with what you have so if I wanted to go to maybe the E minor scale right here is going to turn off the uh nodes or Keys the values that don't belong to that scale and it's going to be a little bit easier to play another thing that you need to do is that when you change it or select the scale you need to select your root by default is going to be C to change the root you need to press and roll this button roll and just press and hold it and then move the encoder and notice it's just changing the root note if I wanted to go to a D Minor there you go so it's minor and then D so [Music] now and all this of course depends on the sample this is a sampler it's not a synthesizer still I'm going to be going back to the C and I'm going to go back to the chromatic scales because this takes us to the play modes the remain button will let you select the play mode if I press it is going to be mono mode legano mode or poly mode so what the f is the difference so in mono mode since this is a exampler not a synthesizer when you play a key remember that the samples are just really long if I play a new one while holding this one it will stop the playback of this one and play this one just like a mono synthesizer I would say you can now play two keys at the same time now then the other modes if I go to Legato the Legato is a little bit different if I play this and play a new key notice that this one is not starting again it will continue from where this one is pressing hold press the new key is not playing it again it's just continuing from where that sample is at that point in time you can do you know generate sounds like this so this is the Legato mode now if I press it again now you're standing in poly mode so now it works like a polyphonic syzer if I play a pad and all pads it will play it in a polyphonic fashion now remember that this device has 32 voices so maybe you should be a little bit careful when you use the different modes and you create your kits one more thing when you select the mode the remain will let you know what you're doing if I go to Mono mode the remain steady if I press it again the Legato mode it's Legato mode it's like on fading in and fading out the other one it's more pulsating right it's just on and off on and off let's say that I want to maybe use the mono mode I'm going to be going outside to exit and I'm going to go to Pann select and then go to the J I have a panel right here I'm going to be playing it it's just a four in the floor something simple I'm going to be going to wreck and I want to you know use that sample but I want to use it in chromatic mode so you just need to do shift chromatic while recording and just just record it and there you go now on this screen the chromatic mode will let you know a little bit more information how many undos you have right here at the Top If you want to undo and then at the bottom the uh measures because you're recording and that's it that's how you do it all right so now we need to take a look into how to edit patterns right here at the top you have a button to test pattern edit this is the one I have a four in the floor I created a couple of seconds ago on the back J it's just a four in the floor something very simple that we can you know hear and tell apart of the different parts so kick snare and hats and this is going to be important in a few seconds so if I stop it whenever you it's stopped the playback stopped and you have this one selected you can go to the pattern edit you know what I'm going to go out and go to pattern select if I select the different pattern and go exit and I go back to the J right here I'm going to go to pattern edit much disable uh the quantization and you know what I'm going to be going all the way off now if I get out of here remember I'm still recording I'm gonna be recording something and is it of course soon as I'm not quantizing and I'm a I did did did this on purpose it's just sounds a little bit off it's just crappy I'm a good guitar player exellent guitar player I'm a you know good bass player I'm an okay drum player uh drums player but I suck at finger druming that's that's the truth now what I want to show you right here and I'm going to just stop the playback is that you can quantize after you record something and you feel that it's a little bit off now you need to go to pattern edit again I'm going to select this pattern the one I just recorded and now you have this screen if I press record settings while standing on uh pattern edit is going to give you something very similar but it's a little bit different on the screen notice that right here if I just get out it's going to go back to the pattern but when I select this it's going to show you to highlight the samples that you used for that pattern is the kick the snare and the crappy clap now the screen will let you know what you can do if you want to adjust to 216s or maybe you know the strength of the quantization and right here you just need to quantize now the thing is that before you can quantize you need to select what you want to quantize so now we just need to select which samples or sounds we want to quantize in this case is the crappy claps if I select it notice it's high highlight it uh and I'm right so you tap it and it's going to apply that effects to the whole sound now when you enable an effects and it's on right here the controllers will just let you control whatever property or settings that you have for that very specific effects so in this case of the filter we have the residance we can go up and drive and so on and so on and so on now most of the effects they have a second screen so by tapping or pushing the encoder will let you see and you need to press and hold will let you see the second screen for the settings different settings now when you release it's going to take you back to the screen now one tiny little thing is that when you enable an effects it's going to apply it but this is going to show you the screen and then it's going to go off after a few seconds if you want to latch that screen you can hold the remain right here hold it and then enable that sound and it's going to lck lock you to that screen so I'm going to enable it and I'm going to go to the uh filter and drive and now notice it's not going off if he wants to get out by holding remain is going to get out notice that this again doesn't turn on and off the only thing that it does is going to show you that screen and latch you to that screen another thing that you can do is that if you hold the value just press and hold the value and then you press the effect it's going to apply that effects as long as you're pushing and holding the value encoder all right all right so you get the filter Drive resonator delay isolator and then Looper and these are you know effects the thing is that this unit can do a lot of different effects and you're not just locked to the ones that you have right here so the M effect is a multi effect if you press it it will show you a screen and then will go off and it will kind of show you the different screen and this is because when you hold it you press and hold it's going to show you all the different effects that you have available and right there at the top you can see that you have three different pages of effects if you want to see the next page while holding the MX you can go and press the uh Looper and it will just just show you the second screen and you release it it's going to go back to the one or you can move the encoder right here the encoder and it's going to go to the different effects and notice all the different effects you have equalizer this Distortion overdrive crush a lot of different effects and right here you can even go to the last of the pages and yeah this is what you need to do when you want to use the mfx you just first need to uh select the effect that you want I'm going to be using a course because it's just pretty obvious and now if I play a pattern the mfx is going to do that course if I turn it off it just works like the other ones when we enable it it's going to do the course and right here just like the remain and the mfx is going to lock you to that screen so you can change the settings of the course in this case and if you push and hold it's going to show you the second screen of the course now another thing with the mfx is that the first time that you tap it or you press it hold it's going to show you the PS notice that they are lied blue and it's because you can tap it and then select the different effects without scrolling right so this is another different way of just toggling through the different effects and remember if you want to go to the second page hold the loop Looper and then you can go to the other effects [Music] cool when you apply an effects what you're doing pretty much you're sending the whole Bank to that effects so if I again play the pattern back and I do a filter in a drive I'm sending everything the whole Bank to that effects but you can't choose which samples you want to send to these very specific effects and everything right here works with buses we're going to talk about that in a minute so I'm standing on the pattern select I'm going to get out of the pattern select and I'm back to the sample mode now the sample mode I'm standing on the bank C and we can see that you know I'm playing the kick the snare and the clap just like we did before so students all this is orange when when we apply an effects we are sending whatever we have on this bank to that effects the filter and the drive in this case but you can change this if you go to remain notice that the pads they light up right they go Bright Now what you can do you can just tap it and notice it goes white so when you're turning them white it means that it's sending everything on the on this uh on this uh bank but it's not sending the 13 14 and 10 if you want to send maybe the clap it will send the clap and if he wants to send the clap and the snare it's sending the clap and snare and it's not sending the kick because it's white and if you again want to go back you're sending pretty much everything so if I just disable everything maybe you can send everything else that you're using on your pattern and then at the bottom none none of this will go to the effects this is how it works now this case I'm just going to enable all of this now using the filter and the drive on the bus one and if I go to the bus two and maybe I'm going to be doing a delay on the bus number number two by pressing the bus effect you can toggle between the different buses and notice it blinks so bus number two means blinking and steady means bus number one now I'm going to be playing a pattern and notice it's super crowded and I'm going to go back to the sample mode and right here the remain will still work you can decide which samples or which sounds will go to bus one or bus two but it's a little bit different if you're sing on Buzz one remember steady and you hold the remain when you tap it remember it's white white or orange so orange means Buzz one now if I stand on the buz number two I'm going to be going to remain and now it's going to be a little bit different I'm going to hold it like that I'm going to remove the this one and this one and the kick as well so what it's going on is that now this is only sending to the bus number two and it's not going through the bus number one and it's go green green means bus number two if I tap it again it goes white so we are not sending anything to you know bus one or bus two if I just tap it again just bus two if I tap it again it goes back to White so this case you just need to go to the bus number one and then just enable to send to the bus one and I know it's a little bit confusing because again it's just super crowded but that's fine one more tiny little fure if I hold the buz effects it tells me that on the one I have a filter and on the other one I have a delay if you want to swap them what you can do is hold the remain and tap the bus effects and now the one has the delay and the two has the filter and the drive right so you can swap the different effects now there's a lot more to this okay so how this works from Factory how it's configured from Factory is that when you sent to bus one Whatever sound that you sent to that bus we'll get processed by whatever effects and that sound will flow into the second bus so if you have a distortion on the one and a delay on the bus number two the distorted sound will go into the delay but when you send something to the bus two alone that will not be processed by the number one it will only go to the delay but you can change this this is how it works from Factory you can go to shift and I'm going to be showing you something first if I'm playing a sample right if I'm playing a pattern I can do shift and then go to the utility but no no is it it's telling me please exit pan and select so I cannot go there I needs to go out and then and only then I can go to the settings but notice it's also not letting me so when you're using or playing back a pattern you cannot go to the settings of the device if I stop the representation of what I've been you know I told you the buzz one everything goes to the buzz one and whatever that comes out from the buzz one flows into the buz two but you can send things directly to the bus too now this is the default configuration and it's called the type A if you press the encoder you change type A to type B and what this means that now the buses they are parallel you're not sending the one to the two the one is going to the one and the two is going to the two and at the end they will get Blended together and they will go out uh to whatever is that you're using headphones speakers now if I play the pattern right now I'm going to ex said maybe you don't see the screen the delay is using the bus two and the buz one it's default of delay but it's just you know it's not super you know aggressive if I go again to the settings and change it whatever goes to the filter and drive it's also going to the delay so again all this just completely up to you and depends on your workflow and how you want this to to work so you also have a bus number three and a bus number four but they are different it's not like the one and the two the three and the four are Master buses so they uh will use an effects they can apply an effects to your master whatever that comes out all right so number three and four apply effects to your master and again you can manage how this works remember that if you're stopped you can do shift and go to the settings and navigate if you're not on pattern select but in my opinion is much useful to stand on a pattern and have a pattern ready and then go to the patch settings because you can play your track and then just use bus three and bus four and you know he how it sounds sounds when you make the changes all right so right here you have a couple of options interesting options you have the favorite which is the bypass and also you can use the controller 3 and you will go to other options we are not going to go to uh talk about the other options you're just going to talk about the bus number four and the bus number three now first of all I'm going to stand on the one now this one says a favorite and it's because you have 16 different like let's say presets uh or combinations of the bus number one and the bus number three for example I'm going to be using this knob the value if I turn this on it's equal equalizer and the buzz number four is using a vinyl type of distortion so if if I go back and just play the pattern so let me just remove the effects that we have on the buses and I'm just going vinyl Distortion or vinyl effect reverve and down a and I guess you get the idea of how this works the different profiles or favorites will give you different combinations now if you keep moving up on the you have up to 16 when you go to the 13 the 13 is completely empty so what you can do with the controller 3 you can go to the bus number three and then with the encoder push to enter and you can select an effect and then again push to maybe get out and if you scroll stand on the first line and with the one and the three sorry not you don't need to push with the one and the three you can change the values of the first row and then change the values of the second row if you have any so you can create your own chain your own Master chain I'm going to do something else maybe I'm going to go to going to do something else maybe you know what I'm going to leave the vinyl so this is my bus three if I go to bus four I can add maybe I don't know a a compressor or something like that if I you can find it I low five F it's fine so it's super low F I'm going to stand right here now if I go to the favorite now we have our own configurations for the favorite 13 is what we use which is the turning on and off the three and the four right it's a very cool feature all right so let's talk about recording the EFX and then the motion so we can record something that we do right here on the Fly and this is something very common these days right I'm going to be going to pattern select and I'm going to be playing that dumb pattern that we have been using and now if he wants to record a motion notice that this is four bars I need to go to wreck so we needs to be on recording Now what turns on the uh motion record is going to be the Mark if I press it it says motion wreck stop and motion that's you know pretty much how it works it just enable the mark you're starting you you record and then you record if you want to use the effects without recording you can press the mark and now the motion wreck stop stops and if you want to use it you can use it and you will just not record it now also notice that besides the mark when we start recording the Motions the start and end will blink so when we are we have a motion record recorded or something going in terms of motion the start and the end it will turn the motion on and off so you can play your pattern with no motion and then maybe at some point in your performance you want to enable the Motions then you press on and it will just you know play back whatever is that you [Music] recorded all right so right here I have to give you a a tip and a warning uh on the previous version the firmware of this device we could delete while playing back and recording the Motions so by doing shift and holding the mark shift and Mark we can play back erase whatever motion we recorded and I guess on the current firmware something is wrong it's a bug and I checked with Roland and some users and they are just all maybe uh complaining about the same thing there's a bug and you cannot erase a playback erase the motions you just cannot do it but maybe you're watching this and you have a newer version than me or maybe an older version uh and you can't do it it's just shift and hold the mark and that's it it will just delete uh the uh motion while you're playing it back it's motion it's called motion erase if I wanted to delete the motion how you know how can I do it I'm going to go back to you know pattern Ed going to exit stop the playback and I'm going to send on pattern edit remember we get this screen so we we can edit everything about the pattern so we can delete it from here if I go to Dell and just hold it is that the Mark is just blinking so if I tap it it's going to say operation complete and if I play it back you go to that mode when you go to remain it says pad mute mode and then it says motion play right so it's playing back a motion if you record if you get out it's going to say the same but off so now I'm going to be going to that mode which is the motion play and I want to record some mutes and on this one you need to be on record if not nothing is going to happen but you also need to be on the white uh on the White Pats which is you know the same mode we just discussed going to get out and we go back to motion play and we are recording now and I'm going to be recording some pad mutes going to wait for a little bit and I'm going to be muting it and then unmuting it muting it and unmuting it and when it plays back we can hear the mutes really cool now of course this is going on because we doing the same thing than before but now I'm going to be holding or just pressing the dell and notice that right here everything goes blue but we still can hear the mutes so now what you need to do is just to tap whatever is that you want to erase and just play back erase it all right sometimes uh when you just tap it you kind of a need to do it right before the mute starts it just needs to press and hold and it's you know kind of a hit and miss and I did just the 14th now I'm going to go to the 10 I'm going to wait until the whole thing starts over and I'm going to just do it going to just hold it and see if this works sometimes again it's just a hidden Miss I'm going to go out and let's see if the mute it's no longer there so this is again one way of deleting the pad mutes now then you have the all way and for this I'm going to need to exit you can go to Dell again we are standing on wreck and we are standing on the pad mute mute so I'm going to be recording some mutes just you know just to delete it on on the other way and if we play back we confirm that we do have some pad mutes cool so I'm going to stop it and I'm going to get out of this mode I'm going to go to pattern select and I'm going to stop it because we need to go to pattern edit so I'm going to be going to pattern edit and we select the pattern that we want to edit just like we did before and now everything works again just like we did before with Dell with delete the Motions with the mark but when we go to Dell we can go to reverse and reverse is the pad mute motion I'm going to do reverse and it's going to delete the pat mute motion if I play it back we just don't get it and I'm going to get out and just maybe play the pattern and go back to the pad mutes notice that nothing happens and if I go back to the pad mutes the white mode uh we don't have that motion we just erased it all right so it takes a little bit of practice just to learn all this and remember all of this um I wouldn't say it's just super easy because you need to enter and get out but yeah it's something that you need to commit practice and then commit it to memory it's just the way it is all right so what if you want to copy paste a sample or maybe all samples from a bank to a new bank or maybe copy paste a pattern to the next pad all right so make sure that you're in Sample mode first begin at work with samples and remember that the day it's completely empty I have nothing so I want to copy maybe the kick and the snare or maybe some other sounds to the bank J I'm going to press copy and whenever you press copy the screen is going to give you some options the controller number three can choose a different project this is the project so you can navigate and paste it on one of the 16 different projects in this case I'm going to be staying on the project number one so now I'm going to be selecting the pad or the sample I want to copy is going to be that one and I'm going to be going to the J and I'm going to be pasting it on and out right here and it's going to say copy a to j13 and whenever you want to confirm you just need to press the value to confirm and that is it now that sound is right here and of course it's right here remember how this works you know the storage uh it's going to copy make a copy of that sound and just paste it on this pad so you have it on two locations two different slots now I'm going to be doing the same I'm going to be going to the A I'm going to copy I don't know the snare whatever and I'm going to be going to the J and I'm going to be pasting it right here and push the value to confirm and we have a snare and we have a kick and I made a mistake I wanted to put the kick on the 13 and the snare on the 14 don't worry you have a function that's called that's called exchange I'm going to go to shift hold the shift and now the five notice it says exchange I'm going to press it and on this one you can specify exchange you can CH Exchange different pads so the 13 is going to go to the 14 and the 14 is going to go to the 13 and again just to confirm you need to push and now the kick is on the 13 and the snare is on the on the 14th pretty useful right so paste them on the J so what you need to do is to copy hold the copy and then press exit at the same time just like before you can use the controller 3 to change a different project to select a different project but I'm going to keep it on the one and right here it says pad will be overridden so make sure that you really want to do this because whatever you have on the other bank where you're just pasting to is going to just going to remove it and paste the new information so I'm going to be selecting the bank a right it's copying the bank a and I'm going to be pasting it on the bank B notice if I select it it's going to stand still standing on the on the back a oh I'm sorry on the first position so when you selected then with the encoder you need to move to the other side go to the J and select the destination J destination thatti it blinks because it's empty so I'm going to be pasting it F1 to J1 if you want to confirm I'm going to say confirm and when I play the pattern it's going to be that you know the pattern from the a from the F if I want to delete this we already know I'm just going to stop it I'm going to say delete it goes It goes purple I'm going to select it and press delete delete again to confirm now what if we want to copy all the patterns from a bank well I'm going to go maybe to the bank F since yeah we did that one and in Pann select we need of course to be in p on pattern select it's the same thing than before copy and then exit we need to select what we want to copy you know all the patterns of the bank F and then go to the other side and select the day and once you're ready you push to confirm and all all the patterns that we have on the f are going to live inside the J just like we did with the samples if I want to delete all the patterns of a Bank Of course remember this is super destructive I'm going to do delete and I'm going to do exit and as do do have something like this it's BN andj which is bank and J and we are standing on the bank J I want to delete them all I'm going to be going right here and it's going to delete all the patterns for the bank J and again make sure that this is what you want to do and be sure that you're standing on the right Bank all right so we have one more instead of copying the whole Dam pattern what we can do and I'm standing on the a uh we can select which parts we want to copy and it's pretty much the same thing I'm going to be doing copy and selecting the pattern number one from the bank a and it says right there A1 and I'm going to be uh going to maybe the J and I'm going to be selecting that one so we are copying A1 to J1 but at the bottom right here it says something else and it says remain samples to copy so when you press the Remain the pads will go white and it says select samples so now I can select the pads I want to copy I'm just going to copy the kick at the snare once you're done you selected the pads or you know the uh yeah the pads that you want to copy you press the value to confirm and if I go to the day and I play it back notice that we only get the kick in the snare maybe it's just a little bit too quiet yeah we just get kick in the snare nothing else and this is a nice way maybe you have a different pattern and you want to copy some very specific Parts you can choose what to copy all right so let's talk about chaining patterns and it's a pretty simple task if we go to pattern select we have of course all the patterns on all the different banks I've created three different uh patterns we're going to use it in a minute but we do when you do pattern chain you can chain whatever patterns in whatever fashion you want now when you're standing on pattern select what you need to do is to hold the hold once you do so you need to select one of the slots that you have available per project and per project you have 16 and it it says right there please select chain 1 to 16 so if I go to the one this will hold some information on the project number one because it comes from Factory of the chain that you get for the for maybe the bank a or the bank B and so on and so on but still if you go to the number 10 the number 10 is empty and 11 12 and so on and so on they are completely empty once you select a pattern chain and you release it it's going to stay right here and it doesn't matter if you want to chain a pattern from the bank a and then the next one is going to be one from the bank e and so on and so on you can do whatever you want right here for example if I'm standing on the a my first pattern is going to be the number a and it maybe the camera it's not so generous but it's the first the first one this one and maybe I can go to I don't know the bank C and it's going to be the number seven of the bank C and it's going to be playing in that order and just you know just keep chaining patterns and keep chaining and chaining and chaining still if you made a mistake and you want to delete them right here with the encoder you can just navigate or position yourself on some of the uh the patterns and by standing there and just pressing the delete is going going to delete that pattern from that chain and uh if you wanted to may maybe play three times the B1 you you can do so it all depends on your pattern and the length of the of the uh of the pattern now this Cas I'm just going to delete all this and I'm just going to get out and I'm going to go out and go back to go back to the bank J which is where I have my three patterns and I have first just a kick this is my first pattern and I did this on purpose so we can uh tell the difference between all the different patterns if I go to the two is the kick snare and then if I go to the three is the same kick thereare but with something else on the top so when we go to different patterns on the Chain we can hear the difference it's okay so we are standing on pattern select I'm going to be going to hold and oh I'm going to go to hold and I'm going to be selecting the chain number 10 and it says right there at the top chain 10 and then I'm going to release the halt I'm gonna be doing maybe the first pattern then I'm going to be doing the second one and then I'm going to be doing the third one so this is going to be my chain now when you create a chain at the top it's gonna you're G to get an asteris so this means that the chain is not saved how can you save the chain so by going out or just pressing exit is going to get out of that chain and automatically it will save your chain if I go back to hold and go to the number 10 we can see that the chain is there if I do something else like maybe adding this one it will give you the asteris right there telling you that the this new this there is a new version of the chain still if you go to shift and you go to delete it will roll back to the uh known last known version of the chain and okay so to play the chain you just need to press the sub pad and remember I said they all they repeat and they all matters I'm going to play it it's going to start and show you the progression go from one and then this one is white it means that it's going to queue to the next one this one is Blink and this is how it works this one is going to play next that's why it's blinking now it's playing and so on and so on and so on so repeat all means that when the chain ends it will loop back to the beginning that's how it works now you do have other modes uh within the repeat and if you want to stop it just pressing the sub pad will just kind of a stop right here now I'm going to press the subad to play the chain again and now I'm going to be changing the repeat by default you have all but you can change between between different modes which is current and then you have off if I stop it and uh you know press the sub pad and start from the beginning this will start from the beginning and repeat off it means that it will play the whole chain and when it ends it will not Loop to the beginning it will just end and there we go it just ends then if I play it again the other mode is not all we already now all it's going to loop back the other mode is going to be current when we are standing on current it means that it will just stay on that pattern and play it over and over again until we say so so for example if you're are playing on a performance maybe you just can tap it it's going to go to the next one and then you can stay on current and it will not loot back to the beginning if you can do whatever is that you need to do on this pattern and then when you want to move forward you just tap it and it it it's going to go maybe to the first pattern or it's going to go off just completely up to you and okay so now we need to discuss the different playback modes that we have available and it's this options the BPM sync the gate Loop reverse and then we're going to disc cause the roll now when playing back a sample like for example this one and this one and I'm standing on the E maybe I'm going to go to the a so if I'm playing this sample all the different samples when you add them to a pad and you import them by default the device will detect the BPM of the sample and it will just you know use that so on each bank or each project you might be using if you go to shift and then you go to the 11 which is the tempo remember we discussed this much earlier you could be using the project Tempo or the bank a Tempo so whatever uh sample that you play is going to be in sync with the tempo of the bank or the project whatever Tempo is that you're using that's what it's doing by default now if you have this sample and you just tap this and you remove it this sample it's going to go faster maybe it's going to go slower in this case since this sample I'm playing it's the whatever Tempo that we have right here if I modify the tempo it's going to sound very differently because it's not going to be ins sync with the tempo and I can easily just prove this if I go to the shift and I go to tab Tempo I'm going to modify the tempo by default this pattern the pattern a uh is going to be 884 so if I change it to 100 to play it faster maybe 100 bpms something like that and now I get out and I'm going to be playing this this sample it's just the same right just the same the same thing if I do BPM sync now it's going to be in sync with 100 and the natural BPM of this sample is 8 was 84 so now it's just sound much faster it's because the BPM sync adjust the will adjust the sample Tempo to match whatever temp tempos that you're using if I do this if I remove it and go to pattern select and I play the pattern it's going to go much faster and this sample let me just get out of here this sample is just not going to be in Tempo maybe you can hear it if I do BPM sync it's going to be a little bit more in sync with whatever goes in the background so at the end of the day what you care about this BPM sync if is that what is the tempo the real tempo of the sample and if it's going to match whatever is that you do right here and if you really need a BPM sync or not maybe a perfect example for this is going to be a kick or a snare this is a very short sound you maybe don't need to notice it's not BPM synced by default from Factory the Ki The Snare the hats we are not it's not using BPM sync because you don't need to but since this is you know a little bit longer you need to sync it so you need to use your BPM sync now one thing you can do you can go to shift and once you do shift and you go to maybe I'm going to do it on the bank bank e notice that some samples are not BPM synced if you do shift and you tap the BPM synced now all the different samples have the BPM sync it is like a fast enable for all the all the samples in the group if you do the same if you do shift and you tap this all the samples are not going to be BPM synced next in the list is going to be the gate so this is uh simple if I just press whatever maybe I'm going to use the same one than before if I do gate and just press it now we are not gating it when you're in Gate you need to press the sample in order to play so as long as you're pressing and playing it it's going to play When You release it sorry for that when you release it is going to stop the playback if you turn it off right here I'm going to be playing this and the sample and you can go to start end to see the waveform is going to start it's going to play from the beginning all the way to the end and when it ends then and only then it's going to stop and I know this is way too simple but there's a a lot more to this if the gate is off and I press a pad the playback will begin so you know without stopping until it ends we know this what happens if I tap it again it's just not stopping what it will do if the gate is off is going to restart the playback of the sample it will always restart the playback of the sample now if you do exit you hold it and you tap it you can stop it even though the gate it's uh off and it's going to of course stop it without re-triggering that's the whole point right you tap it again it will re-trigger go back to the beginning and then hold exit and tap it and it's going to kill it now I'm going to be doing hold I'm going to be pressing this this uh pad I'm going to hold and just tap that and as the gate is is on so when you're whenever you press and the gate is on this is going to play back like the gate is off it's going to play back all the way to the end and when it finishes is going to stop the playback now still like before you can do exit and tap the pad again and it will stop it now within the gate universe you have the one shot what you need to do is you need to hold the value and then press the gate so I'm going to be going to the value I'm going to be pressing it pressing hold and now I'm going to be tapping the gate notice that now the gate is blinking so this means one shot now if I play the simple what it does is going to start right here and go all the way to the end this is one shot and if you think about this it's like you know having gate off right it plays from the beginning and then it's going to start at the end and that's it well the the main point of one shot is that if I play it and if it's playing back if I tap it again notice that it's just not restarting this is what the one shot will mean when you start it it will will go all the way to the end and it will never stop right so that's the main point of one shot now still the killer you know the one that kills kills everything is the exit and then the the pad right so you can always just kill the one shot or gate or the non gate or whatever is that it's play back holding the exit and then pressing the pad and then I'm going to be sending it to just gate and then you have the old ones the loop and the reverse and this one are just pretty simple to understand I'm going to remove the gate for now I'm going to go to Loop and I'm going to be playing this sample and I'm going to be going to the start and the end now maybe you can see right here when you enable the loop the control tool you don't see it it's just moving around maybe you can see it right there moving so this is the loop point it means that when playback starts and I'm going to start it from the beginning it will start and when it enters the loop whatever we have right here is going to be looped now this is a very long sample notice that right now it's looping and this is a you know kind of a very long sample but it's going to Loop Forever Until you of course you stop it if I tap it it's going to stop the playback which means that you can stop it by playing by pressing the pad if I do something a little bit more normal maybe I'm going to be going right here we're going to talk about this I'm using the controller two and the uh three to adjust the starting and the ending this is actually the the topic of the next next section I'm going to play it it's going to go and when it enters the loop that is what it's going to Loop over and over and over now you can simply maybe just loop everything go to the beginning on the controller to and then you know just press it and it will Loop over and over and over that's the main point of loop now then you have and I'm going to just top it then you have the reverse and the reverse is the same idea but it's going to play it back in reverse and I guess you know I just don't need to explain this he's going to play it back in Reverse this is very useful when you have some hats or maybe some snares right so now the thing is that you have combinations you can use combinations for example if I use Loop and reverse that I have the loop right here I'm going to be adjusting it maybe there and now we have Loop and reverse so when I play it back it's going to go into reverse and when when it ends is going to Loop this part you can see that it's looping so we are using both reverse and loop and you of course have combinations you can do gate and then reverse when I just play it back only when I'm pressing is playing because we are on gate on if I release it stops and then when I press it again it will start playb you also can do gate and then Lube which is again the same idea I'm going to be playing this and maybe I'm going to just make the waveform a little bit shorter so gate and loop it means that as I'm holding is going to keep looping and it will only stop when I release the pad and as you could guess you get the gate the loop and reverse on all at the same time so now you can you know do reverse do gate and do Loop and it will only play when I'm you know pressing because gate is on it's going to do in reverse and then it's going to Loop so we have the best of the three now I'm going to go maybe to the loop all the way at the beginning and if you notice right here I'm going to disable this this one uh below the the loop it says pink pong so if this is like the gate when we do the one shot if I do shift and then tap on the loop now it's going to be blinking so now we are on ping pong mode this is what it means is that instead of looping back to the beginning is going to play force and reversed right so it's just back and forward that that's pretty much it that's what Ping Pong means now everything that I'm showing you right now it uh completely depends on you know what you want to do with the samples and the sounds that you're using to create your pattern maybe some of the of the sounds needs to be on syn or and some of the sounds are going to be just looping some parts and again all of this just completely up to your Loop or your performance and okay so now it's time to talk about the role I was not going to cover this because it did this is just a very small feature but if you go to the web a lot of the questions you know a lot of questions are about the role and how you can make this work and of course a lot of the complaints are about the role as well so the role is a performance feature you cannot record rols and I'm telling you this again because this is the most common question on the web now each of the PS can remember its own Ro value so if I go to the kick the kick is going to to remember its role so how you can set the roll is by going to roll and then just tap it and notice that it's just going this is again how it works maybe just a little bit too loud so this is how it works so how can you set the roll while you do shift and you tap the roll while you're holding shift you keep tapping roll and you're going to be selecting different values it's the one/ fours then eight then 16 and then you know 30 seconds 64 and so on and on and on the thing again each pad can remember its own role so I can go to the kick right and on this one I'm going to be making I don't know half I'm going to go to the snare and this one is going to be and we have different values so this one is going to be I don't know something like yeah I'm going to be doing eight this one is going to be maybe I'm going to leave it on 16s and this one I'm going to do it do it uh eight and you know what I'm going to do 64 now what is the point of all this is that when you pressing and holding roll and this one's of course remember its Ro value when I play this is going to do of course the roll but this one it's on a different division because they remember their own rooll value and this one is going to be much faster and this one is going to be super fast now when you release the roll it's going to stop rolling now I'm going to select this one and change the roll because it's just a little bit maybe too annoying I guess that is fine I guess you get you know you get the point of how this works as long as you're rolling there are going to be a playing back now something that you need to remember is that you can only do four different roles so only four if you have a four and I do a new one that is a test Max roll so you cannot do it right now what you can do still holding the roll you can go to exit and you can tap this one and it's going to remove the roll and remove the roll then you release the exit and then you have you know maybe a space for two different rolls and you tap it if he wants to remove it you remove it and you tap away again all right so you know this is the role and again if you do something like this you cannot record it on a pattern the only way the only thing you can do is that you can sample whatever is that you play back so the role on this this device is a Performance Tool now you have a different way of rolling I'm going to show you right now this uh Works especially well when you are using maybe a sample that has a loop I'm going to be maybe just doing one not beinging pong just Loop a looping this one I'm going to tap the roll that is what happens it's taking this and it's just like rolling it over and over again now whatever roll value that you have right here is what you know at the end of the day is going to do if you tap the roll again is going to exit that if I play it again and tap it notice that the value is different I'm going to tap it going to change it to something faster and if I tap it again and tap the roll now it's much faster let me show you something else for this pad all the one that we've been using I'm going to do shift and I'm going to do I'm going to select the low value something slow not so fast and I'm going to press it I'm going to be rolling it at this point and now I'm going to be pressing the roll I'm going to hold it and this is going to speed it up or it's going to slow it down it works a little bit better when you have a low or something slow and not so fast like 64s but yeah you can do this now remember and let me just get out of this uh that you can do four rolls at the same time so this is a long sample I'm going to remove the gate so if I tap it it's going to be super long and you know what I'm going to Loop it this one is already on Loop this one is a little bit long longer I'm going to Loop it and this one again it's just a pretty long sample I'm going to be playing them and just going to be tapping this one I'm going to roll it I'm going to tap this one I'm going to roll it some point I'm going to tap that one and I'm going to roll it tap that one and I'm going to roll all the different four at the same time and remember that they roll for each oh each pad remember its own roll uh division so you can manually change it and then when you need to roll tap the Roll and Roll It All right so you know this is just what the roll can do just tap roll to get out of that one I'm going to select that pad I'm going to tap roll to get out tap this one tap roll to get out tap this one tap roll to get out now they're on Loop so I'm going to just tap them to get out of the mode all right so now we need to talk about these sample edit and I'm going to give you a quick introduction to these buttons because they can do do a lot you can do a lot of things right here I'm going to be standing on the project I don't know a yeah it's e I'm sorry and I'm going to be playing this sample and I know that you have this sample too so you can use it if you didn't erase uh the uh default project that you get from Factory all right so when you go to a pad again I'm using uh the E and the three so when you go to that sample and you play it back and you see the name of the sample you can set the start and the end that's why it says start and end so you can just decide when it's going to start and this one is going to decide when it's going to end so you just can you of course adjust whatever sample is that you're using and since I'm using gate I'm pressing it it just will end right there right and I guess all of this just pretty uh pretty simple and understandable now if I go right here and I enable the loop then the loop Point appears so this is going to be the controller number two and you just need to move it around I'm going to go there and if I play it then and only then is going to be looping that point so you set it with a controller too and again makes sense and we already used this now then what you get is going to be the zoom and this is the zoom if you scroll notice that it says right there at the bottom how much you're zooming in you can do up to 11x so if I go all the way down you can see the whole thing and if you scroll down scroll up it's going to zoom it now the things that you need to be uh maybe right here if I move the starting point when I zoom it's going to zoom based on whatever param I just moved in this case it's going to be the starting point if I move the ending point and then you assume it it's going to assume the ending point right and if I move the loop and then Zoom it again is going to zoom around the loop I'm going to go all the way down if you want to kind of a reset this whole thing and it's the whole All sample you can do delete and it's going to say initialize points of A1 pad yeah it's just going to initialize the points if you want to do so you just press okay and it's going to take you back to the beginning with the starting and the end now I'm going to enable the loop and I'm going to put uh maybe I'm going to put it right here and then I'm going to put the loop right right there now notice that the remain it's blinking so with this one is blinking it means that if you move the starting point in this case and I'm going to do it with the other hand if you move it and if I go over the loop it's going to drag or it's going to take the loop and then if I keep moving it's going to take the end so this is why what it does by default but what happens if you don't want this uh Behavior so what you can go to the remain and now is steady so this means that when I move the starting point it will never go over the loop point or the end point yeah this is you know this is actually useful when you're editing Ting uh whatever sample that that you need to edit I'm going to be going maybe right here and I'm moving the starting point and I'm going to go all the way in I'm going to assume it 11x so when you move the starting point you can see that it's just moving super freely right so we can really freely move it um now this is when the resample is blinking when the resample it's steady it's going to snap to the grid which is actually zero curve snapping so now if I move it it will not let me let it let me move uh the Turning Point really freely it's going to kind of a look for the zero crossing point of the waveform so you can avoid the clicks and the pops so this is what the remain uh the resample T um it's again it's completely up to you and how you want to uh resample or just adjust the and starting and the ending point uh you can do it by ear or just disable this and just do it manually and just check if you get any click or any pops now I'm going to go all the way down I'm going to maybe put it right here and just put it right there now if I go to Value you have something that says menu right here well this is the menu if I go there you have three options I'm not going to I'm not going to use it because they are uh destructive if you go to truncate and you push the encoder and you confirm the truncate it's going to take whatever is that you did right here and it's going to make it permanent so it's going to write it to the dis to the internal memory so whatever is that you're doing on this pad now this is going to be permanent which means that you lose the original sound the original sample so you need to be really sure that you want to truncate to whatever is that you're doing right here then you have normalize now this is especially useful when you sample something to this device when you uh sample or resample something and the volume is maybe a little bit too loud well this is going to normalize it's going to take the volume as loud as as it can go or maybe the last Peak it can go so again it's just like using a doll for example and the option that where you use an option normalize and it just goes up and then you have emphasis and this is just a little bit weird and I guess it's it's attenuating the lows and Ultra compressing or exciting the high frequencies so when you uh push the encoder and you choose emphasis is going to of course modify the original sample and you cannot go back and it's going to kind of a hype the higher frequencies so if you have a very dark sounding sound it's just going to make it brighter it works uh it really works it's a little bit weird but you know it just works so if you have something super dark you can just make it bright by going to the emphasis and you can do it many many times uh as you uh do it over and over again it's going to start breaking the sample so you need to kind of be careful with that all right so I'm going to be going maybe here and I'm going to maybe select the end right there and for now just going to leave the loop right there so once you adjust your starting and your ending you can start messing with the pitch and the speed and the envelope that you see right there at the bottom I'm going to go to pitch to pitch and speed so when I play the sample it's going to play whatever you I selected as starting and ending and this will change the speed but also will change the pitch of the sample it makes sense this is a sampler this is how it works if I go down this speed speed will go slower but also will go down in Pitch the same thing for this control this one will go up in pitch and as a as a result will the speed of the sample will be modified there's this again how it works okay so that's it then you have the volume and you can go down volume of the sample or you can go all the way up and make it real louder if you go to shift you can pan it all the way to maybe the left oh I made it mono there we go so now it's going to be on the left and again it's going to be on the right and again if you go all the way down you're just going to make you're going to make it mono right so cool options uh I'm going to go maybe back to the center and this is the fine tune it's the same thing as the pitch but you can of course fine tune it if you must for now I'm just going to leave it at zero now there's a lot more to the screen for example have the BPM set which is auto manual manual F so and if I even do shift you have more options like the vinyl mode or the VAR mode and all of this options got to do with how the sampling playback engine works and I'm going to be uh deep diving into all of this options on a future video going to be releasing it in a couple of days so stay tuned now once you select your starting and your ending let's say that this is my perfect starting and ending you can hold the shift and you can change the envelopes and right here what it does when you play it you can change the attack of the waveform just to do a tiny little bit and you're going to hear that it's going to kind of smooth in this is again just like an adsr is the the attack you can select how much hold you want to do which is going to be just that and if you want a little bit of release I'm doing way too much release is going to of course do the release now notice that when you are uh doing a long release and especially especially if you're standing on the gate even though if you press it let me just adjust the camera if I press the sample and release it even we are in gate it's going to take some time for the sound to die because the release is just long right so you need to bear that in mind another thing that you cannot do right here is just assume you cannot do it here because you can do it on the start and the the end so you if you need to adjust your starting and your ending you just do it from here first and then when you're ready then you go and you change your you change or modify your envelopes now if you uh decide that whatever is that you did on the uh on the start and the end the uh pitch and speed and the envelopes and everything else you decide that you don't want to keep it when you go out you can do shift and of course I'm standing on that that pad you can go to the pad number six and this one is going to be init param it says right here at the bottom so I'm going to press it and it's going to say current sample parameter in it yeah I'm going to say okay and now when you go to the start and the end and the uh pitch speed and the envelopes are just you know back to the beginning all right so that's pretty much it I'm going to be uploading some other videos just to expand whatever is that you did we did right here for example I'm going to be uploading a new video covering the trre which is the alternative way of recording param I'm sorry patterns uh I'm going to be uploading a new video to talk about the mute groups and Link groups I'm going to be doing some sampling and resampling and just give you a lot of different examples and this is why I didn't uh do this on this video because I want to give you good examples I want to record
