Now, once Mexico gains independence, in order to attract market activity to its northern frontier, Mexico opened its borders and allowed American immigrants to come into Texas. Why? Because Texas was Comanche territory. Texas was controlled by native peoples. And so Mexico needed help in colonizing the region.
Americans came in waves to take advantage of the cheap land that was made available. However, Mexico and its lax policies provided opportunities to people who had no interest in honoring the Mexican Constitution, who had no interest in becoming citizens of this new nation, who had no interest in becoming Catholic and speaking Spanish. So Mexico stopped its immigration policy. yet did not provide sufficient funds to create an effective border patrol because Americans, border or no border, were coming to occupy the land.
These undocumented aliens or these illegal aliens of white people then protested against Mexican rule, especially when Mexico abolished slavery, the central government abolished it. So how does one want to remember the Alamo? Land, borders, slavery, and territory. This is what the Alamo erupted over, these issues. Texas is going to declare its independence, but the historical record reveals the Texans had no interest in nationhood.
The nation was funded by the South. in its nine-year existence, desperately awaiting a U.S. administration willing to annex it. And that administration will arrive in the 1840s.
So let's go to a film clip that appreciates the Alamo.
