hello everybody my name is Arthur calling the director of project development engine I'm here to tell you more about the 10 application questions for the electric vehicle manufacturing value chain program once the engine team passes an application past the screening stage that's when project teams will gain access to the full application the requirements for the final application include answers to 10 comprehensive application questions with a maximum of seven thousand characters per question I'm going to go over each of these questions in Greater detail in subsequent slides the 10 questions will need to be complemented by five supporting documents firstly we're going to be looking for a project plan which will essentially essentially be a Gantt chart that can be attached as an appendix next we're going to expect a risk register which will also be attached as an appendix we want to note that templates for the project plan and the risk register will not be provided engine assumes that applicants will have their own templates and their own project management practices thirdly iptables applicants will need to provide a list of the expected background IP that project Partners will be bringing into the project and the expected foreground IP that Partners will recruit that will be created during the project list of background and foreground IP will need to be populated in the form of tables and attached as an appendix the template for iptables can be found in Section 3 of document titled IP plan template found on the evmp program website sections one and two of the IP plan template are optional for the application stage and we'll only we'll only need to be completed during the Contracting period if your application is recommended for funding for the purposes of this final application you only need to complete Section 3 of the IP plan template fourthly you can also upload additional documents like letters of support and finally Financial workbooks each partner will need to submit their own Financial workbooks directly into the Salesforce application portal the deadlines is complete and submit the final application will be on November 15 2023 at 5 PM Eastern the application question will be assessed on the 10 application questions each will have a limit of 7 000 characters to ensure that the process of spiritual applicants information provided beyond the 7000 characters along with external links will not be permitted consider using graphs and charts as they will not count toward the total character limit assassroots when grading each application will have to answer two yes no Gateway questions firstly is a project in scope for funding secondly it's the project recommended for funding so 10 questions are ordered in a way such that they tell the story to assessors keep that in mind when responding the first two questions are summary or overview questions that set the stage and provide a foundation for the rest of the application the second set of questions deal with commercialization for the evmp these questions are critical as they will demonstrate to assessors whether or not the project team has a compelling and comprehensive commercialization plan in place the objective of the avmp is to support the scale up and commercialization of made in Canada Advanced manufacturing capabilities into evaluations so commercialization is definitely top bind the third set of questions are related to the expected impact and benefits as a result of the project assessors will want to see that there are sufficient economic and broader ecosystem benefits and last but not least the final four questions are related to execution assessors will want to see that there are the necessary plans consideration capacity governance structures and budget in place to deliver the project on time on budget and according to specifications now let's move on to the 10 application questions make sure to read and respond to the guidance bullets provided underneath each question one asks what is the opportunity the project addresses this is a chance to lay out your project of the 30 000 foot level and provide assessors with the overall big picture motivation make sure to describe the EV project area that you are targeting provide an overview of the business and technology impacts and how it will strengthen and grow Canada's EB value chains outlined what the big the project needs to do to achieve the desired project objectives also outline the challenges faced along with the potential challenges and barriers of entry into Canada's electric vehicle value chains along with how these challenges will be overcome tell us more about the roles of each project partner and how everyone will collaborate toward achieving the project objectives question one is an excellent opportunity to set the tone for the rest of the project by summarizing in one question different engine pillars what is the project about how is the project transformational for Canada's Advanced manufacturing ecosystem how is the project collaborative essentially how projects Partners work together to help achieve project objectives last but not least all the Project's outcomes be commercialized and have a long lasting impact question two asks what is transformative about the advanced manufacturing aspects of the project key pillar for all engine projects is that they need to be transformative in nature not only here in Canada or North America but globally projects not adequately transformational will be deemed out of scope regardless of the quality of the rest of the application remember the application should focus on the process Innovation or Advanced manufacturing aspects of the project unless so on the product make sure to clearly Define how those Advanced manufacturing aspects are transformational and Innovative in nature both from a technical and Commercial perspective help answer questions such as are the Technologies new or are you applying existing Technologies to develop unique transformative manufacturing Solutions also outline the current state-of-the-art manufacturing processes and Technologies your industry or sector and describe how this project pushes the boundaries in the context of its Advanced Manufacturing will the project lead to technological and business advantages that will allow Canadian companies to LeapFrog local competitors also describe how the project could be recognized globally as strengthening Canadian leadership and advanced Manufacturing make sure to quantify these technological and Commercial impacts with estimates and actual figures where possible also make sure to back up the statements of why the project outcomes are globally transformative by providing evidence such as the results to patent searches literature reviews and competitive competitive analyzes also make sure to summarize in the body of the question any background IP rights plan and rationale to manage and protect the foreground IP that will be created in the project outline any novel research that's being undertaken as part of the project make sure to answer the questions clearly from the perspective of all Partners involved not just the lead partner question three asks what is the nature and size of the potential markets that the project will address a key objective of this program is to scale up and commercialize made in Canada Innovations across electric vehicle value chains projects will need to demonstrate a clear and comprehensive understanding of the target markets that they wish to enter the markets that they're currently operating within and or adjacent markets in other Industries where their advancement Advanced Manufacturing Technologies be applied for this question make sure to respond from the perspective of each partner involved describe the segments of the evalu chain that the Project's seeking to enter and or describe the existing markets that you're currently operating with it and how the advanced manufacturing opportunity will help strengthen the company's uh competitive position within the electric vehicle value chain make sure to include the details of the product or platform within the EV value chain that the advanced manufacturing technology is targeting the details of the target market including size growth rates margins Market leaders and key competitors along with market differentiators for the project the expected share of the market that the companies expected to capture as a result of the project the timeline to which the company plans to capture these opportunities as well as your the expected impact on existing or and or future customer relationships along with any adjacent markets in other industries that the IP can potentially be commercialized make sure to provide evidence for your statements and provide Quantified estimates where possible question 4 asks how will the results of the project be commercialized this question along with question three will be very important and will be critical questions for the evmp program a key objective of the evmp is to develop and strengthen Canada's electric vehicle value Chain by scaling up and supporting the commercialization of made in Canada Advanced manufacturing capabilities please ensure that there is a compelling and comprehensive commercialization plan for each partner by describing how the benefits will be achieved beyond the scope of the project 3 addresses the markets that the project Partners want to Target or the where question four on the other hand addresses the how and the roots that each partner plans to take to get to those markets the commercialization plan should highlight how each partner will will take their expected outputs to Market and commercially integrate them into the electric vehicle value chain along with other potential business opportunities for each partner for this question make sure to highlight what project outputs you are commercializing this should be aligned with the foreground IP listed in your IP plan describe how these outputs will be commercialized in the markets that were outlined in question three provide insights into your sales and marketing plan also describe the plans to manage and protect Nea and how do you plan to share the IP amongst Consortium members and potentially engine members describe any commercial spillover opportunities also how the evalu chain will be impacted down an upstream from the project again make sure to highlight the role that would be played by the market pull industry partner that will be providing support to the project I want to note that a more detailed commercialization plan will be required once you enter the Contracting stage if the project is recommended for funding question 5 asks what type of economic benefits is the project expected to deliver to those inside and outside the Consortium and over what time scale as with most government funding programs projects must deliver economic benefits for this question please outline the economic benefits to the participating project partners and others as well and how the partnership will help each partner achieve greater economic growth we ask you to describe and summarize in tables three economic development metrics over the Three Time Crisis during the over the duration of the project zero to two years after the project and three to five years after the project the three economic metrics include additional revenue generated by each partner with three time Horizons direct and indirect jobs created and maintained or safeguarded by each partner over the three-time horizons and the types of jobs that each partner will create as well as additional direct indirect economic benefits examples include the ability to implement the advanced manufacturing solution and multiple factories or facilities efficiency gains reduce downtime reduce material usage and higher quality output make sure to use Quantified estimates for economic benefits where possible describe the economic benefits that the project can have on the whole EV value chain the one with any spin-off business opportunities question 6 asked what is the impact on the broader Advanced manufacturing ecosystem and for Canadians a core engine pillar is that all projects need to have an enduring impact on the broader Advanced manufacturing ecosystem benefits cannot accrue to one partner only projects must have widespread positive impact the lasting Legacy for advanced Manufacturing in Canada beyond the partners involved it throughout the entire supply network if not described adequately the project will be deemed out of scope for funding regardless of the quality of the rest of the proposal so it's important also important to highlight any Workforce Development and Equity diversity and inclusion or EDI opportunities practiced by all partners for the body of the question please describe the impact of the ecosystem across three metrics firstly social benefits examples include metrics related to diversity and inclusion as well as health and safety the second metric is on environmental benefits examples include ghg Mission production and better energy management lastly the response could also benefit from highlighting other benefits such as Workforce Development industry knowledge and the fostering of collaborative Networks again where possible please use Quantified estimates questions 7 through 10 will focus more on how you will execute the project so question seven asks what is your overall project method this question has three parts in narrative form please describe your project management approach as well as any project management tools and mechanisms that you're going to use to control the project to ensure that it's delivered on time on budget and according to specs and also describe your metrics of success secondly in narrative form please also provide a written summary of your overall project plan including descriptions of work packages key milestones and deliverables along with any resource and management requirements for successful project completion thirdly as part of appendix 1 please create a Gantt chart using software such as Microsoft project that will detail the tasks timelines Milestones deliverables dependencies between the tasks the assessment and scoring for this question will consider both the written narrative answer and the Gantt chart appendix one in evaluating the project plan assessors will consider the following is there sufficient detail provided in relation to the complexity of the project is there sufficient detail to understand the tasks involved and the resources required to successfully complete the project it's a timing of the key Milestones realistic and is there a demonstration of sufficient resource commitments and capability to undertake the project and is the project plan online with the costs that will be described in the response to question 10. question 8 asks what is the overall risk management plan engine recognizes that r d projects are inherently risky in nature and therefore we want to see that projects have adequate Arrangements in place to manage these risks the question will be in three parts firstly please describe your risk management approach including the management tools and mechanisms used to identify and manage the risks secondly please prepare a risk register including a risk analysis you can do so in a software like Microsoft Excel in this risk register please firstly identify the risks key risks within the project please provide an analysis of the likelihood impact of the rating for each risk also for more complex projects it would be advantageous to address residual risks after the initial risk management plans have been applied at the very least please provide the following risk categories or risks technical commercial managerial resource financial and IP risks strengthen the Response and Analysis consider other risks such as freedom to operate safety regulatory legal environmentals and Supply chains assessors will be looking to see that all the main risks are identified and that there are sufficient risks within the project of warned engine funding and that these risks are appropriately controlled key risks thirdly key risks identified in the risk register can be elaborated upon in narrative form as part of the response to the question I asked does the collaboration and the partner skills experience resources and access to facilities that delivered the identified benefits collaboration is a key pillar of engine projects projects must demonstrate meaningful collaboration between all departments involved projects that do not adequately do so will be deemed out of scope for funding regardless of the quality of the rest of the proposal for this question the keys to describe the collaborative nature of the project and how the Consortium working together will achieve more than if they were working individually consider using the IP plan to describe the nature of the collaboration power companies coming together with their individual background IP to collectively create new foreground IP for True collaboration every partner should benefit by having foreground IP coming out of the project also consider describing how Partners will develop and grow relationships and trust and increase knowledge sharing also describe the track record of each member in undertaking r d projects when responding also consider explaining whether the team has the right available mix of skills whether there are appropriate management reporting and governance structures to manage and deliver the project and whether there's access to facilities and resources to successfully deliver the project last but not least question 10 question 10 asks why is tension funding being requested and what is the financial commitment for the project this question is a two-part question firstly please describe why engine funding is being requested projects must adequately describe how when Gen funding will benefit the project why it's critical and demonstrate that the project activities are in addition to the regular business undertakings of the companies involved secondly please use the body of the question to explain in narrative form the financial commitment being made in the project as outlined in the financial workbooks please provide a breakdown of the costs per work package showing how it aligns with the project plan and the milestones consider also providing supporting information of any extraordinary or specialized project costs please refer to the project guide under question 10 for considerations underneath each cost category also specify other government or private funding store private sector funding sources necessary to achieve the project goals in evaluating the project the assessors will consider the following questions as the project presented a clear case that these activities are in addition to regular business undertakings has a realistic budget breakdown been provided and is the budget realistic for the scale and complexity of the project and is a financial commitment from other sources demonstrated for the balance of budget costs also have the cost of work packages breakdowns been described in Justified adequately and is the project providing value for money for engine funding considering the Project's total potential impact return against the amount of funding being requested please make sure that the Project funding is not subsidizing the multiple commercial production in terms of key dates the screening or expression of Interest deadline is on October 11 2023 this will give projects approximately five months to work out the engine team to develop their project idea and ensure that the idea is in scope we'll work with the engine team to find potential project marks I want to note that we are launching an online app collaboration or a matchmaking that will allow projects to post their project ideas and connect with potential partners virtual collaboration days will also be taking place in late June and early September the formal application program will be open for applications on June 30th 2023 after the collaboration days once the engine team passes a project through screening the applicant will gain access to the full application between the time when this between the screening submission and the final application deadline projects will be able to work with ngen staff to get feedback on their responses and required documents the final application deadline will be on November 15 2023. a decision on whether or not a project has been recommended for funding will be made by December 5th if a project has successfully been recommended for funding they will move on to the Contracting funds which is expected to go until February 2024. after which projects can begin in Korean expenses the additional questions feel free to email us at eb-challenge ngen.c for the official guides resources and templates please visit the main website of the evmp program at ngen.ca funding slash challenge slash EV manufacturing thank you have a great day
