Starting YouTube Videos with Ease

I guarantee that you're overthinking this process why because I overthought this process for 9 months before I made my first video back here on YouTube and so today I'm going to show you the most simple setup you can use so that you have no more excuses and I'm not saying that you're full of excuses I'm saying that I was full of excuses and I needed to figure out the simplest easiest fastest way to post so that I would actually just get started because let's face it posted is posted is better than perfect right you can work for so long to make a video perfect and never post it or take so long to post it that the information that you even put in the video is now irrelevant and now today today the day that we both we both stop this okay so I'm going to show you my setup I'm going to talk you through how I'm even creating this video because I promised myself that I was going to simplify this process it is like a trauma response to overthink everything to be perfectionist to to not put something out until we think it's professional enough and this is because we grew up in the 80s and 90s right before the way that we are rearing kids today letting them be imperfect from the start we were raised to be perect perfect to be better than other people's kids and guess what that is holding us back now because it's taking us so long to just try we have so much built up in our conditioning about feeling cringey about feeling embarrassed about needing to look a certain way the right way to do things the right way and today that stops okay today that stops I am creating this entire video using my phone that's it I'm just using my phone I'm using very very simple equipment to be able to film myself to be able to create a thumbnail and then to be able to post this video on YouTube the video that you are watching right now so here's the only things these are the only things you really need to create a quality video notice I didn't say a perfect video I mean a quality video what is a quality video a quality video has a few things number one it's going to provide value to the people who you're speaking to meaning the person who is watching your video needs to like come to the end of your video thinking wow I learned something wow I feel better about myself I feel seen I feel heard I feel a connection with a Creator like this is what we're looking for when we're watching YouTube right so that's what you want to be giving as far as value goes to to your audience and what else do we need when we uh when we watch a video we need to be able to hear the person clearly actually you've probably heard this time and time again that sound is more important than even the quality of the visual aspect of the video and then we need to be able to take a still image and that is actually something that the YouTube Studio can do for you if you don't have the ability to take a still image you can choose a still from the video so that might be something that you could even uh you could even bypass like you don't really need to take a separate image for your thumbnail and then you need you might need a really simple editing app okay something simple to hold up your phone something to potentially see the quality that you're getting from your back camera or you can even use your front camera all right so let's get started talking about what this simple process actually looks like I'm going to show you the equipment that I am using and I'm going to give you some Alternatives that you can use if you don't have this equipment okay so first things first I am using my DJI mic I am connecting it to my phone why because I want the sound quality to be really good but if I didn't have this mic and if I wasn't using one of my other mics because they weren't working or I don't have them like if you don't have it you don't need to go out and buy it if you have these I'm I kid you not if you have these these will provide such better sound quality than if you were to just use the microphone that comes with your phone why I'm why am I saying wired uh wired headphones instead of like Bluetooth headphones because a wired connection still produces higher sound quality than a Bluetooth headphone connection does as far as the microphone phone goes so if you are looking to improve the quality of your sound on your videos and you don't have the money or you don't have the means to purchase a separate mic just yet use a pair of wired headphones and I guarantee you're going to hear the difference in the sound quality of your mic okay next if you are somebody who is wanting to use the back camera of your phone I am actually using a device that shows me what the back camera of my phone is recording I'm going to show you the the device I bought it from Tik Tock shop I don't exactly know the name but I'll put it somewhere in the description it's actually like a small battery operated monitor where I could recharge the battery and it goes on with a magnet to the little phone the phone holder on the back of my phone so this is the little device I was telling you about this device is a little monitor that is showing me exactly what I'm shooting on the back camera of my iPhone 14 pro and as you can see if something shows up on the back camera I can see it on the Monitor and this is connected via this little phone holder and so my phone is on this phone holder and it's shooting me and this little monitor is what I'm using so here's the name of the little monitor I got this from Tik Tock shop omn I'm pretty sure you can find it on Amazon as well if you do not want to purchase this I have something even better to show you and you can rig something like this up not this setup but what I'm about to show you so that it's actually cheaper and it's it's the connection is much faster you'll know what I mean when you see it one moment okay so this here this is what I'm talking about if you get this here see it has a little clamp attachment and it can clamp to even a tripod as skinny as this one like singular pole tripod if you get this attachment and this mirror what this mirror is for is that this mirror faces your screen when you're shooting on your back camera so if this mirror is shooting the screen while you're shooting on the back camera what that means is you'll see in the mirror's reflection exactly what the back camera is shooting so this mirror actually acts as a monitor for what's going on on your back camera without you having to do all the connectivity that this little device requires so this little device requires you to set up on Wi-Fi it also needs to be charged and the battery goes pretty quickly on this thing the reason why I like it is because sometimes I just like it better sometimes I want to use this sometimes I want to use this this I guarantee you is much more coste effective and it's it's just so easy to set up and make sure what you're doing is you're angling this mirror correctly so that you can see what's going on in your back camera while the mirror is showing you what's going on on your phone screen cuz that's what shows you what's on the back camera that way you can see whether you're in Focus you can see if you're centered you can see perfectly well on this mirror or you could use something like this moving on to this super super simple tripod this is by the brand ulanzi thank you to the subscriber who actually corrected me on that I've been saying the name of this brand wrong for so many years this is a super simple tripod you can use it for your phone you could use it for an actual camera and it folds up really really really small it folds up super small like this so it's pretty portable and the reason why I'm using this today to film myself is because I wanted to be sitting in some good lighting because I wanted to show you how simple this could be here's the light source that I'm using and then here's the chair that I'm sitting in and really the light source is just coming in directly to my face I have a couple more pieces of equipment that I want to show you before the end of the video but I definitely wanted to show you that window because in this video we're all about simple fast easy inexpensive and I did not want to show you my lights I did not want to be using my lights today I wanted this video to be as easy for me to create as for you to follow the directions from and go recreate it on your own so that's my light source just make sure that the light is coming from in front of you instead of like don't use your overhead lighting okay if you don't have like any soft box lights you don't have to use anything special just use your window put your chair back a few feet and make sure that the light is coming from in front of you not behind you that is the best lighting tip I think you'll ever hear so don't turn on that overhead light thinking that you're lighting yourself well just open the window and let yourself use the window light all right couple more pieces of of equipment number one is this shutter you have probably seen me holding it throughout the video this shutter is so that I can control the camera the back camera from away from the camera so I don't have to be running to the other side of the camera to turn the video on or to the turn the video off I can just use it straight from here and then last but not least I have my script I talked about this in another video I just write bullet point notes on a little Post-it and then I stick it to the back of my phone so I don't forget there it goes floor so I don't forget what to say what I'm going to do after I'm done recording this is I'm going to put all of this footage into cap cut I'm going to use the free application cap cut on my phone to just like piece together all the little pieces of video that I created I'm going to chop off me like waiting to take a breath before I start speaking in the beginning of the video I'm going to cut it off at the very end of the video and then I'm going to post that the way I'm going to create my thumbnail is I was using before I started shooting the video this little shutter button I was using this little shutter button to take still photos of myself using portrait mode on my phone so I did it on both the front and the back camera so I can take a look at which photo of myself I like the best for the thumbnail and the reason why I like portrait mode especially for a thumbnail is because it really blurs out the background so you'll more easily read the words that I'll put on my thumbnail rather than having the thumbnail look super busy so these are the quick and simple steps that I'm taking today to create this video to show you that you could have the most simple setup right if you're anything like me I am an overthinker I'm a perfectionist I'm a procrastinator and that's why it took me nine months to get back on YouTube I was making these long and complicate complicated vlogging videos which I still love and I still want to be able to do but I knew that I wanted to get a message on to YouTube and it didn't require me to do these long and complicated edits on Vlog Style videos so I needed to figure out a way to get past that hurdle of mine to get past that overthinking like it's too complicated I need to make sure it looks right I need to make sure that it looks professional that people whatever right like all of those thoughts were just a waste of time and so I wanted to show you what I was doing to cut all of that nonsense out so that I could just get to posting remember posted is better than perfect let's go for the imperfect Beginnings let us all start at the very beginning that's the step that I'm on right the experience that I've had with media has a little bit to do with potential success here on YouTube but in order to get myself into the habit and the process of producing quality videos I need to do high quality videos meaning I I need to perfect the process I need to build the habit I don't need to get the perfect equipment the most expensive equipment hire editors I don't need to do any of that I just need to allow myself give myself the permission to do this simply easily and quickly and that's the way that I'm planning to build my channel build my personal brand here on YouTube so if you're down for that follow along for the journey hit subscribe let me know in the comment section I'll see you in the next one
