The Story of Job (Ayoub), Peace Be Upon Him

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful When we spoke about the story of Abraham, the friend of God, we mentioned that he had two sons: Ismael and Isaac and that Allah, Almighty, blessed Isaac with two sons Esau and the Jacob, peace be upon him Esau had a prophet from his progeny We all know him This prophet is mentioned when we speak about any calamity that we endure This prophet came from the offspring of Esau to call his people to Allah He was in Harran, in the Levant This prophet was Job, peace be upon him Whenever we mention Job, we remember his patience We cannot hear a story about patience similar to the story of Job, peace be upon him Allah blessed this prophet with knowledge, understanding, religion, calling people to Allah mending relations between people and he provided him abundant wealth It is even said that God blessed him with five hundred acres of crops And more than five hundred servants and slaves He possessed so much livestock, wealth, and abundance that he was envied in those times God blessed him with a righteous wife and many strong, healthy children who assisted him Job, peace be upon him, remained blessed He taught and advised people, worshipped his Lord, and remembered Him constantly. He was devoted to much worship Allah tested him with the most severe of afflictions It is said that Satan himself envied this prophet, which was the reason for his affliction How? A prophet with all these blessings? Gardens, farms, slaves, wealth, and children It is said that Satan at that time eavesdropped and heard Allah praising this prophet So his anger and envy intensified, and he gathered the demons around him he asked them to harm the Prophet of Allah, Job, peace be upon him The demons began to gather around him, his wealth, and his children, attempting to harm the Prophet of Allah The first trial that Allah afflicted His Prophet Job, peace be upon him, with was the loss of his wealth His wealth and crops began to burn and perish He started losing his farms, one after another So when he lost those farms, his wealth and source of income came to an end His servants left him, and he released the slaves because he could no longer afford to support them He lost all his wealth What remained? His wife and his numerous children remained His children began to die, one after another Nothing was heard from him except patience and praising Allah We will certainly test you with some fear and hunger, and some loss of possessions and lives and crops. If one loses just one child, he could lose his mind He may endure hardships throughout his life Some people wouldn't be able to live if they lost even one child The most precious thing in the world is children So how can someone bear losing their children, one after another? When he lost all his wealth and became poor, at least he had his children to help him However, he began to lose his children, one son after another And mention Our servant Job, when he called out to his Lord, “Satan has afflicted me with hardship and pain.” All his children died, one after the other He had at least 10 children What did he have left? He lost all of his wealth All of his slaves are gone All of his children died He was the only one left alongside his wife She was a patient and a steadfast woman just like Job And people are astonished by what is happening to the Prophet of God, Job He lost his farms, his wealth, slaves, and servants and became bankrupt Now, he is losing his children one after the other What is happening? This is certainly a punishment from Allah! Look at how people percieve this The perception of people is harsher than the afflication itself They started to backbite him until he got sick The illness gradually intensified until he became bedridden Boils began to appear on his skin To the extent that people found him repulsive and distanced themselves from him They distanced themselves from the Prophet of God, Job How can you find Job repulsive? May Allah punish you! Until he fell onto the bed and his hands and feet stopped moving He became completely paralyzed If we want to talk about affliction, this is the real affliction Some people, when they lose some money, can't bear it He lost all his wealth after being wealthy, lost all his children, and his servants left him Now, he lost his health How old was he at that time? He had 70 years He was not young He became bedridden, only his tongue was left to remember God alongside his mind, which he reflects with, and his heart, which beats His wife was taking care of him That righteous, devout woman He used to say in his supplication: 'My God, I am a humble servant.' He used to make a lot of supplications If I do good, it's to Your credit, and if I err, then my punishment is in Your hands He heard people's words saying that Job had committed a sin because of what happened to him And that God does not love him and has inflicted punishment upon him He used to say: 'I seek refuge in Allah from the neighbor who sees me, if he sees something good, he conceals it, and if he sees something bad, he mentions it.' Even his freinds left him and abandoned him Job remained in this state for years Job remained afflicted with this illness for eighteen years Who supported him financially during this time? His wife was working for people for hours to buy some food to feed her husband She was the one who washed him, cared for him, and attended to his needs As for Job, his tongue remained remembering his Lord He never despaired, neither over the loss of wealth nor of children, nor over his health We found him patient. When we speak about patience, we mention Job We found him patient. What an excellent servant! He was obedient. Even his wife went to him and said, O Job, you have worshipped God Almighty, and your prayers were answered It's as if his wife was slightly annoyed by this situation Eighteen years in this condition O Job, if you supplicate to God, He will answer you, for you are one whose prayers are answered You are a prophet, ask your Lord to restore your health She became upset with this situation after she was in prosperity, served, and had wealth, children, and servants Now she works for people She asked Job to pray to his Lord, but Job became angry with her Why? Because she was not patient Have you despaired? Can't you bear this affliction? He said that God had blessed him for seventy years Is it not my right to endure his affliction for another seventy years? He told her that they had no right to despair until after seventy years of affliction Then he said to her, 'if God heals me and restores my health, I will strike you one hundred times because of what you said.' Job had three close companions They visited him that day at his house So they entered upon him, and there was a young, healthy man sitting with them He was lying on the bed Imagine, years passed and he remained in this condition, unable to move except his tongue Do you know what Job's faithful companions said about him? They said: "O Job, you have committed a sin that no one else has committed." That's why the punishment hasn't been lifted from you All this affliction and punishment, and you say this to me? You failed and your efforts failed Job did not respond to them, but this young man is the one who replied to them He became angry with them and reproached them for their words Then he said, 'Do you really know who you have belittled? Whose sanctity you have violated? And whom you have slandered?' Do you not know that he is Job, the Prophet of God, and the best of His creation on that day? You're talking about a man who was the best of God's creation at that time? It's as if Job's heart was relieved Then he looked at the young man and said that God implants wisdom in the hearts of the young and the old alike You said wise words The affliction upon Job intensified, and people continued for years to speak ill of him He could only move his tongue, remembering, worshipping, after he had lost everything in this world His wife worked from morning till evening to bring him his daily bread and attend to his affairs All this while he remained patient We found him patient. What an excellent servant! He was obedient. His heart and tongue only remember God Almighty What an excellent patience! The patience of Job! Ayoub's wife was working as a maid to bring him food Once, people started to spread that Job's disease could be transmitted to them and infect them What should we do then? We do not visit him! We do not approach him! His wife who works for you could infect you with his disease Whenever she goes to a house asking for work, they close the door in her face and expel her Imagine where the condition of Ayoub and his family have reached So she came sad and broken, and told him the news that people had refused to hire her We are going to die out of hunger together Look at the level of afflication that Job reached His wife had an idea She had long hair with braids People in their time used to buy hair to adorn themselves with So Job's wife cut her braids and went with them to some of the women in the palace, who bought the braids from her She took the money and bought food She hurried to Prophet Job so he could eat due to extreme hunger She was afraid for her husband She gave him the food He said where did you get this food? She said eat and I will tell you He said, “No, by God, I will not eat until you tell me where this food comes from first.” She tried to persuade him, but he did not want to eat She removed her headscarf and revealed her hair to him She said that she cut off her braid and sold it to some women So Ayyub was deeply saddened that day Here, after eighteen years of affliction, while lying on his bed, he prayed to his Lord And Job, when he cried out to his Lord: “Great harm has afflicted me, It's now that the great harm has afflicted me He was satisfied and patient with all of the previous afflictions He was accepting everything coming from Lord of the worlds But when he saw his wife in this conditon, Job was broken And Job, when he cried out to his Lord: “Great harm has afflicted me, and you are the Most Merciful of the merciful.” When his wife saw his sadness, she left and abandoned him Job's grief became intense, and he called upon his Lord with this supplication “Satan has afflicted me with hardship and pain.” And then, our Lord, the Job, inspired Ayyub, who was alone in the room Allah told him to move his foot My foot? It didn't move for 18 years But now it's going to move! Move your foot, O Job! His wife was not with him, she left He began to move his foot Allah told him to hit the ground with his foot He began to move his foot in the room Water started to pour down from his feet This is the day of miracles! This is the day of relief! This is the day of glad tiding! This is the day of the lifting of afflictions! He began to move his foot Health started to return to his body bit by bit Water started to spread in the room, touching his body “Stamp with your foot—here is cool water Water started to touch his body When water touches a part of his organs, they began to move And he was cured of the apparent affliction Until his body started to move, and God commanded him to drink until the internal illness was gone “Stamp with your foot—here is cool water to wash with, and to drink.” Ayyub began to drink, and all his internal illnesses disappeared, and all his external illnesses went away As soon as he bathed, his appearance changed What happened? God restored his youth by washing him with this water Water that contains life God restored his youth, health, and well-being And behold, he rose up immediately Job stood up His wife didn't know what happened yet When she returned, she did not find Job on the bed, and there was water in the room She began to scream, believing that dogs and wild animals had entered the room and taken her husband She ran and searched for her husband, calling his name And then she saw in the house a young, strong man standing So she covered herself from him and said, "O man, haven't you seen that afflicted prophet?" "Haven't you seen Job, that afflicted man?" She is afraid for her husband He told her: you didn't know me? She told him: No, I didn't know you But you resemble my husband more than anyone else did before the affliction He smiled and said: I'm Job She said: Are you mocking me? Are you mocking me? I spent 18 years with this man and now you're saying that you are Job? He said, "No, by God, but Allah has restored my health and well-being." Then, they hugged each other So We answered him, lifted his suffering, and restored his family to him, and their like with them And on that night, God restored his wife to her youthfulness Imagine the relief First, the illness faded away, Allah brought back his youth Youthfulness returned to his wife After this, he lived 70 years Allah granted him 26 children They say the double of his previous children and restored his family to him, and their like with them—a mercy from Us, This is the reward for patience a mercy from Us, and a reminder for the worshipers. Look at the happiness that Allah granted to Job, peace be upon him Job said to his Lord that he sweared that he will whip his wife 100 times with a stick How can I fulfill my commitment? After he got nervous against nervous against her because she asked him to pray his Lord Oh Lord, I swore that if God restores my health, I would strike her a hundred lashes with a stick So the Lord commanded him to take a bundle of palm fibers containing a hundred inner fibers Take a bundle and strike her lightly as if you had struck her a hundred times “Take with your hand a bundle, and strike with it, and do not break your oath.” The prophets do not break their oathes “Take with your hand a bundle, and strike with it, and do not break your oath.” What an excellent servant! He was obedient. God restored his wife and children and restored his health One day, Job, peace be upon him, was bathing naked Suddenly, golden locusts descended on him from the sky Imagine! A large number of locusts enter his stock All these locusts enter the warehouse of Job, peace be upon him When Job saw some locusts of gold that were gone So he started running after the locusts that were leaving He wanted all the locusts and did not want any locusts to go away from him God said: O Job, are you not satisfied? Did I not enrich you? I gave you enough locusts Are you chasing the locusts that are coming out? He said: Yes, Lord, You have enriched me, but I am indispensable to Your blessing This is a blessing from heaven that I will not waste After that day, God blessed him with another seventy years of bliss and worship of God Almighty Do you know why? For one reason We found him patient. His tongue never stopped mentioning Allah, being patient and content We found him patient. What an excellent servant! He was obedient. His story is mentioned in the first generations and the last ones, and whenever patience is mentioned, Ayyub, peace be upon him, is also mentioned. Job and patience are a sign among the signs of God
