Basic Rules of Volleyball
Court Dimensions
- Size: 18 meters long x 9 meters wide
- Free Zone: At least 3 meters wide on all sides
- Divisions: Two equal halves, with a front zone of 3 meters on both sides of the net
- Net Height: 2.43 meters for males, 2.24 meters for females
- Antennas: 80 cm height, must pass the ball within these antennas
Teams
- Composition: 2 teams, each with 6 players
- Roles:
- 2 Hitters
- 2 Blockers
- 1 Setter
- 1 Libero
- Row Division: Players are divided into front row and back row
Scoring System
- Sets: Each set consists of 25 points
- Winning a Set: Must score at least 25 points and have a two-point lead
- If tied at 24, play continues until one team leads by two
- Match Format: Usually best of five sets
- Fifth set consists of 15 points instead of 25 if necessary
Winning Points
- How to Win a Point:
- Hit the ball into opponent's court
- Opponent fails to return the ball or commits a foul
- Serve:
- Executed from behind the end line
- Must hit the ball over the net between antennas
- Faults: stepping on the line, ball going out, or touching the net
Ball Handling
- Return Rules:
- Opponent must return the ball within three touches
- Ball must remain airborne; touching the ground results in losing the point
Essential Techniques
- Passing (Bumping):
- Basic skill using forearms to pass the ball
- Absorbs serve energy and reduces speed
- Setting:
- Used to place ball for hitters
- Requires precise hand placement and timing
- Hitting (Spiking):
- Powerful technique to score points
- Involves jumping and hitting with an open hand
Blocking
- Technique:
- Stop opponent's attack and deflect the ball back
- If blocker hits the ball into the opposing court, the team scores
- A single player cannot touch the ball twice in a row
Rotation and Positioning
- If serving team wins the point, server remains in position
- If receiving team wins the serve, players rotate clockwise
