you guessed it the one see these ancient texts didn't just expose the LIE of the world they revealed how to beat the system and Ascend Beyond it are you ready to see the world as it really is then let's begin all right first things first what the hell is gnosticism if you're not familiar with it don't worry that's kind of the point most people aren't because they were some of the very first Christians that were actually a secret society but see they got branded as heresy and they were nearly wiped out nosis means knowledge in Greek now this isn't any kind of ordinary knowledge but mystical secret knowledge into the true nature of reality and according to the gnostics reality as we know it is basically a cosmic scam an illusion a lie sound familiar Gnostic Gospels basically read like a matrix script that were written 2,000 years ago in The Matrix Morpheus straight up tells Neo that his everyday world is a prison for your mind you are a slave Neo gnostics 2,000 years ago were saying the exact same thing that this world is a prison for the Divine spark inside you a fake reality that's made to keep you ignorant it's not actually where you're from you're from another world entirely but you forgot but here's the thing these texts they were hunted down seized and destroyed by the early church the Council of NAA the Bishops the Emperors they worked to rewrite history to make sure that only their version of Christianity survived now think about it in the Matrix the machines wiped out any trace of Zion in every cycle because they didn't want people to know that there was a way out the church did the exact same thing to the no they tried to erase them from history because nothing says Eternal truth quite like a bunch of dudes setting people on fire for having a who crafted this material world but here's the thing he's ignorant and believes he's the only God in town in the secret book of John the Demi urge says I am God and there is no other God beside me now demiurge and his archons just like the machines the architect and the Agents the programs in The Matrix but how do we escape The Matrix well we'll get to that in a minute but remember that each of us has the spark of true Divinity a piece of the one hidden within us well how did that spark get there remember the Demi urge trap these pieces in material bodies like batteries to power his creation but this is a catch 22 the Demi urge needed this light to get his world up and running but he didn't realize that it also means that Humanity secretly gets a soul that is a fragment of the true God the one and when the Demi urge and the archons create create the first human they realize there's a big problem since Adam contains a spark of the one he's smarter and more powerful than the dark spent his life looking for more Morpheus for morpheus's truth see that Restless feeling that splinter in the mind was driving neoc crazy that's the spark of nosis trying to ignite is that something you've ever felt see the wowski use the term architect for The Mastermind of the Matrix and this is a direct nod to the demiurge which literally means Craftsman now here's where gnosticism gets really fun if the whole world is an illusion set up by a fake god well then how do we escape the Gnostic said through nois which means knowledge Enlightenment but not just any kind of knowledge a kind of Awakening a realization of one's true origin and nature just like in The Matrix how do people wake up they have to have knowledge of what the real world is and that everything around them is fake the Gnostic Gospels aren't about worship Blind Faith or sin the Gnostic Gospels were more like an underground Manifesto about how to hack your way out of this reality in other words revealing Hidden mystical and self- knowledge that's the key to Salvation knowing that your true self is beyond this physical shell and that you actually come from the true real of light in the Gospel of Thomas Jesus says when you come to know yourselves you will realize that it is you who are the sons of the living father basically this means to know yourself is to realize you're a spark of the infinite not just hellish it might be and boy does he get an eyel fields of human batteries machines controlling everything his entire life a computer construct talk about a traumatic Enlightenment and Gnostic initiations at least as portrayed in their myths when someone gets nosis the experience can be just as jarring the Gospel of Mary describes the Soul's Ascent after death passing through terrifying powers that try to drag it back down into the material world into another cycle of incarnation the soul has to basically confront and defeat the archons the archons of Desire ignorance wrath basically inner demons in Cosmic agents and as the soul defeats each of these archons they even call the soul Slayer of men and conqueror of space meaning that it's transcending the physical body and the material world at one point the soul declares its Victory by saying what binds me has been killed what surrounds me has been overcome my desire is gone and ignorance has died from now on I'll receive rest in silence this is like Neo at the end of the film after he dies to his old self and wakes up with Godlike Powers calmly saying no to the bullets and stopping them midair he even returns to the silence at the very end of revolutions where he lets himself be absorbed into the source but we're not there yet let's talk about the one both in the context of the Matrix and the philosophical concept of neoplatonism and gnosticism Neo's title like the one isn't just a cool sounding gamertag it's loaded with meaning in The Matrix Universe the one is the liberated human with the ability to reshape The Matrix within the story it's a role tied into the machine's cycle of control the one actually turns out to be an anomaly that the architect manipulates to reboot the system which is a sneaky twist but on a symbolic level the one is like the Savior figure kind of like I don't know Jesus and he's the Gnostic logos the word that comes from the true God to save souls and interestingly in real world philosophy the one is also a concept from something called neoplatonism referring to the Ultimate Reality the source of existence utterly Transcendent the wowski surely knew this Neo is an anagram of one after all and Neo is the one it's probably a playful nod to NE platonism and the one now the gnostics also called their Ultimate Reality the one but they wouldn't say that the one itself comes into the world rather it emanates Christ to kind of do the Dirty Work of saving souls in Christian Gnostic texts Christ is kind of like the Avatar of the one in the sense of that he's unified with the supreme god in other words Jesus is the Neo of gnosticism in The Matrix Neo has a lot of Christlike qualities think about it resurrected from the dead power of Miracles Etc but the story also subverts the typical Messiah Trope by making him one of several anomalies a system glitch but still Neo is different and fulfills the Gnostic savior role almost to a te he wakes up realizes his divine nature as the one and his presence in the Matrix lets him wake others up too by The Matrix Revolutions Neo literally sacrifices himself to defeat ancient Smith to save Zion like Jesus dying on the cross it's equal part Christian symbolism and hacker heroism but here's the real kicker gnosticism isn't about worshiping Christ not at all guess what it is about becoming Christ see this is where traditional Christianity flipped out and hit the emergency heresy alarm the gnostics didn't believe in bowing down to some Divine authority figure instead they taught that Jesus came to show you you and Christ will be one and the same this isn't some vague metaphor about being a good person this is a radical blueprint of Awakening for realizing that the divine power Jesus had is inside of you that whole Son of God thing yeah it's not exclusive just to Jesus from 2,000 years ago it applies to all of us and this is exactly Neo's Journey he doesn't spend the movies worshiping a savior or even the idea of the one he realizes that he is the one he becomes the one that's gnosticism in a nutshell meanwhile Christianity went yeah let's not do that and turned Jesus into some authority figure that you have to obey see if people realized what Jesus was actually saying the whole system of control would collapse because the real message is not bow to Christ Jesus would probably think that was power in the climax of resurrections Neo and Trinity together confront the analyst Trinity even surpasses Neo's powers and and flies which is a nice subversion where she becomes the one as well well in gnosticism Jesus is Neo and Mary Magdalene is Trinity the Gospel of Philip doesn't beat around the bush about this it says the companion of the Savior was Mary Magdalene he loved her more than all the disciples and used to kiss her often on her mouth see that kiss wasn't just about making out it was symbolic for representing Christ and Mary's equality and unity the disciples were jealous as [ __ ] when the other disciples whined about it asking Jesus why he loved her more his comeback basically boil down to because she actually gets it and you guys don't like Mary Trinity wasn't just Neo's romantic interest she was his guide Confidant and ultimately his savior remember she literally brought him back from the dead with a kiss in original Matrix a textbook Bridal chamber moment likewise and Power couples like Neo and Trinity or Jesus and Mary they're the ultimate symbols of spiritual powerhouses Mary Magdalene wasn't just some passive follower she actively continued Christ's Mission becoming the teacher of the other disciples in the Gospel of Mary Peter even throws a fit about having to listen to a woman this is also similar to the Gnostic story of Adam and Eve in Gnostic texts Eve actually isn't a sinner at all but the heroine who wakes Adam up just like how Trinity is the one who finds Neo wakes him up with that iconic follow the White Rabbit tip and then brings him back from the dead with her love in fact in many Gnostic texts Eve is actually the one who gives life to Adam in resurrections Neo and Trinity together form a balanced whole Neo had the will to resist the Matrix but Trinity provides the passion and creative spark to actually change it together they remake the false world and this fits the Gnostic idea that salvation is a collaborative act a re Union in Gnostic terms each person's soul has an inner counterpart and in the bridal chamber an actual ritual they practiced the two are united so the person can Ascend as a complete being by the way this isn't just a gnostic thing it's psychology Carl Young The Swiss psychiatrist said that everyone has an inner feminine or inner masculine called the Ana and animus and that they need to unite with them to become psychologically whole and healthy and you don't even need to talk in terms of gender that's just a symbol here you could just say inner opposite but speaking of gender we need to talk about Matrix was always on some level a transgender allegory about feeling reality is false and Breaking Free to live as your true self did you know that the Matrix films were created by Two Sisters Lana and Lily wowski who were publicly known as brothers at the time of making the original trilogy they themselves proudly transitioned I'm glad that people are talking about the Matrix movies uh with a trans narrative I'm glad that it has gotten out that was the original intention but the world wasn't quite ready the corporate world wasn't ready for it so many people even believe that the red pill was inspired by estrogen pills to represent transition they were literally red in the 9s want more proof the wowski initially envisioned the character switch as gender fluid appearing as as a man in the real world and as a woman within the Matrix but the studio wouldn't let it happen we had the character of switch who was like a character who would be a man in the real world and then a woman in The Matrix now this is a really beautiful layer of meaning here because this means that the Matrix resonates with anyone who sensed that the identity Society gave them is a lie and who seeks to find their true identity in that sense the film is both deeply Gnostic and deeply personal to the wachowskis now fast forward to the 2010s and have this bizarre spectacle of red pill becoming a meme among right-wing and anti-feminist groups who claim they've awakened to the truth and say that feminism is evil or some other nonsense they completely missed the point that the creators of the film are two trans women who Infuse their journey and Progressive philosophy into the DNA of the movies it reached total absurdity when in 2020 Elon Musk tweeted take the red pill and Ivanka Trump replied taken basically appropriating the term for a reactionary agenda and Lily wowski tweeted back [ __ ] both of you isn't that crazy it's as if the archons themselves hijacked the Matrix imagery to keep people in yet another layer of delusion turning a symbol of Liberation into a weird alt-right dog whistle talk about the Matrix within the matrix it's like watching people used the handmaid's tail as an instruction manual instead of a warning hm where's that happening the film is literally about how the world is an illusion imposed by a false Authority and how you got to find your authentic self to be free but this was co-opted by people pushing conformist patriarchal ideas the very thing that the film was rebelling against it's like someone using Jesus's words to justify doing the exact opposite of what Jesus taught oh wait are you starting to see the truth here gnostics would shake their heads and basically say yeah the ignorant will always twist truth into a new trap in fact get this the Gnostic texts say that's exactly what the archons do they take what is good and twist it the Gospel of Philip says the rulers archons wanted to deceive man they took the name of those that meltdown kind of like to paint the sky with rainbows idea so what do we have we have the Matrix which is a kick-ass action Trilogy now a quadrilogy and we have gnosticism an ancient set of beliefs that says the material world is a fake and evil and Enlightenment nosis is the only way out the correspondences are almost too on the nose but you might be thinking did the wowski actually intend all this I mean were they sitting around reading the nagadi library and saying let's put this in a blockbuster well the wachowskis have been fairly private about their exact thought process but they've openly acknowledged drawing from mythology religion and philosophy very widely so we know that the Matrix makes a lot of references like to Boulder Lay's simulakra and simulation this is the book that Neo keep keeps his illegal software in Lewis carrols Alice and Wonderland and a lot of Iber Punk literature they also mention Buddhism and the Matrix has that spoon bending kid in it who basically quotes Buddhist ad philosophy there is no spoon try to realize the truth there is no spoon but the Gnostic Vibes here are way too strong to be coincidence the wichowski being the well- read creative Geniuses they are were almost certainly aware of gnosticism the convergence of ancient and modern of spiritual and digital is what makes the Matrix feel so profound to so many people even if they never heard the word Gnostic it triggers that feeling that maybe you too are asleep in some ways that maybe you need to wake up to your own potential in The Matrix what saves you is knowing the truth
