history why don't we open with a word of prayer together father we thank you for this time uh we just ask that you would Minister to us in a powerful way that we would see maybe some of us for the first time that we would see how essential how important this resurrection message really is we give you this time in jesus' name amen so the resurrection is essential I mean Paul says it's essential you're sitting on a park bench and you're discussing the cross now that would be an easy cell for you why is the cross needed well you would say Jesus had to die you know for our sins he had to pay the price he had to take away our sins through a blood sacrifice I mean it was a fulfillment of the law I mean the cross that is easy to explain but I would argue that the average Christian really doesn't know a lot about the resurrection at least why the resurrection is important for us personally of course you might say well I know what the resurrection is Jesus proved his power over death well remember he had already done that with Lazarus he said Lazarus come forth and he had already shown that he had power over sin and death so why is the resurrection of Jesus so important to you and me that's what we're going to talk about today in the two acts of God now with a laser focus on Jesus rising from the dead first we need to see that Resurrection means you're saved now you might have heard that the cross saves you that's only a partial truth you're not Sav saved by the cross you're actually saved by the Resurrection the word of God puts it this way in First Peter it says blessed be the God and father of our Lord Jesus Christ who according to his great Mercy has caused us to be born again to a Living Hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead do you see that do you claim to be born again are you born of God's spirit do you have a new heart and a new nature does Jesus live in you well if you are born again the scripture says it is through the resurrection that means that God took that singe and he infused you with his resurrection life and that's how you were born again to a living hope you are not saved by the cross alone you are are saved by the Resurrection Life of Jesus Amen Romans 5 puts it in such clear terms oh my goodness it could not be any clearer look at this for if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of his son much more having been reconciled we shall be saved by his life do you hear that what does the death do the death of Jesus reconciles you that means it brings you near it brings you close it brings you into relationship but look at the truth you are saved by his life Wow all right how about uh the idea of you being saved forever did you know the resurrection assures your salvation forever well in Hebrews chapter 7 it says Jesus has become a priest not on the basis of a law of physical requirement but according to the power of an indestructible life Jesus's indestructible life means that he is your priest forever which means that you have a representative always which means that you are always forgiven which means that you are always saved you have an eternal priest the problem you know the problem in the Old Testament the problem is those priests they would die on you yeah you knew the guy he lived down the street right and when he hit a certain age he would die and need to be replaced and then there'd be another and another and another the book of Hebrews is highlighting that this never happens to Jesus he has an indestructible life he is your Eternal priest and therefore you are saved forever now Hebrews goes on to make this point it says therefore Jesus is able to save how long forever all right those who draw near to God through him since he always lives to make intercession for them oh my goodness what a radical message this is if you've ever debated law and Grace if you've ever debated faith and works if you've ever debated whether you're safe in your salvation if you've ever debated if you could do something to lose it well here it is staring Us in the face Jesus saves you completely now look at this truth it's because he always lives to make intercession for you it's about the length of his life so I want you to say this with me this morning morning I will be saved as long as Jesus Lives all right say that with me I will be saved as long as Jesus lives do you hear that Jesus lives forever therefore you will be saved forever all right now how about the resurrection pulling you out of your sins did you know you're not in your sins anymore look at this 1 Corinthians chapter 15 it says and if Christ has not been raised your faith is worthless you are still in your sins all right so that means of course that Jesus did rise from the dead which of course means that you're not in your sins anymore so this funny business where we start talking about other Christians hey have you heard about so and so she's living in sin no she may be sinning she may be struggling but she's living in Jesus not in sin she has been taken out of her sins and she has been placed in Christ and she's not acting like who she really is location location your location has changed you are no longer in your sins you are in your savior now that is something to celebrate but there's more Resurrection means you're United with Christ oh my goodness the pages and the hours of teaching that have been devoted to the false idea that you need to be closer to God little by little if you just read the Bible enough if you just go to church enough if you just do enough good stuff then God will say come on you can be a little closer now and then next week and next month and next year if you keep on growing the theory is you'll keep on getting closer to God but you know what the father doesn't work that way you have an amazing perfect and permanent closeness to God because you were United with Christ and you know what it's not about what you've done it's about what he did look at this Ephesians chapter 2 it says even when we were dead in our sins God made us alive together with Christ by Grace you've been saved and he raised us up with him and seated us with him in Heavenly places in Christ Jesus he did it it's his agenda he got it done I hope you hear the word of God this morning what a crying shame it would be for you to celebrate Easter and only recognize the resurrection of Jesus did you know that you've been raised up did you know this is about his resurrection and yours yes you need to allow this to be about you if this is not about you then you have not engaged with the message of Jesus Christ Jesus Christ has engaged you by causing you to be raised up and seated with him right next to God a perfectly clean and close connection forever so Jesus isn't the only Resurrection we're celebrating today we're celebrating yours in him for you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God when Christ who is our life is revealed then you also will be revealed with him in glory now I ask you can you get any closer than that I mean come on en enveloped enveloped hidden hidden with Christ in God fused and bonded to him him in you and you in him Jesus calls it Vine and branches he prayed for it that prayer got answered do you see this please hear my heart this morning this was God's agenda agenda your closeness with Jesus is God's agenda and he got it done and it's perfect he did it perfectly so you've been looking at how you're doing you've been looking at all the stuff you're not doing you've been looking at you and your track record to determine what you deserve and what you're allowed to feel with God what I'm saying is you're allowed to recognize the f finished work of Christ he qualified you this is not about you it's about him and he made you perfectly fused and bonded to him forever this is real it's not about a feeling your feelings come and go they EB and flow they're up and down and all around welcome to planet Earth your feelings but we're talking about what Jesus did for you 20 years ago he made you clean on Friday he made you close on Sunday all right Resurrection also means that eternal life is his life now growing up I thought eternal life was I don't know a gift package in heaven you get to the Pearly Gates and they hand you a ticket and it says admit one right well done good and faithful servant admit one Welcome to the hurly Gates Welcome To The Kingdom I mean we talk about eternal life like it's a thing like it's a gift package awaiting Us in the gift shop you know and yet eternal life is really Christ's life think about it whose life has no end but that's not the definition of Eternal eternal life is life with no end and also no beginning Eternal has no beginning and no end so I would ask you if you have eternal life then whose life do you have now look at it Jesus puts it this way after a little while the world will no longer see me but you will see me because I live you will live also because I live you will live also sound familiar you'll be saved as long as Jesus lives and because he lives you live so your salvation is tied up in the length and the quality of Jesus's life I used to think my salvation was tied up in the quality of my living but it's tied up in the quality and length of Jesus's life you'll be saved as long as he lives and that's forever first John says this life is in his son he who has the son has the life he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life please hear me the life is a person and just beneath your skin and bones and everything that you call you Jesus literally lives there what if the only reason you end up bearing fruit what if the only reason that you behave is because Jesus rose from the dead and res Ides inside of you this is real you believe that part about God speaking the world into existence you believe that you believe that part about a man being swallowed by a whale and then spit up on the beach you believe that you believe that part about Jesus being crucified buried and raised and then he floats up into heaven amidst many people who are watching you believe believe that how about believing one more incredible thing that he's alive today literally and actually living inside of you he gave his life for you on Friday he gave his life to you on Sunday so that he can live his life through you every day Resurrection also means you'll never die the fear of death it's a pretty big one it ranks high but it doesn't have to for you Jesus said to Martha I am the resurrection and the life he who believes in me will live even if he dies and everyone who lives and Believes In Me will never die do you believe this the New Testament calls it falling asleep I'm not scared to fall asleep especially when I know that I'll wake up face to face with my God and my savior and my daddy father you will never die because of the Resurrection it's said this way in Luke chap 20 for they cannot even die anymore because they are like Angels Jesus says they're sons of God being sons of the Resurrection oh my good goodness do you see how important the resurrection is it's your identity it's your label the label that God has for you is that you're a child of the Resurrection that's who you are you're a product of it you're born of God's spirit now I just want to ask you if the holy spirit gives birth to you what do you look like who are you what kind of heart is in there what kind of nature we keep talking about ourselves like we're dirty and distant and we think that's oh so humble that is not true humility true humility is saying the same thing that God says about you no more and no less let's not sell the gospel short you're born of God's spirit and you're a child of the Resurrection all right here's one that you're really righteous because of the Resurrection I know what we've done with righteousness have you seen it you can hear it on the radio watch it on TV or read it in Christian books we've told people that God is looking at you as if you're righteous you know he's faking himself out he's pretending he's putting the wool over his own eyes or here's one he has Jesus glasses and he's looking at you through special lenses so he doesn't actually have to see you you're not really righteous they say you're just positionally righteous you're not really righteous God's just pretending you are so when's the righteousness coming when we hit heaven and where's that verse we're making stuff up the gospel is better than you imagine and if you take one truth away today I hope it is this one that that you have Resurrection righteousness watch this Romans 4 verse 25 it says Jesus was delivered over talking about his death he was delivered over because of our sins and he was raised because of our righteousness that word justification to be justified means to be made righteous which you might say is being rified I made that up but you've been rified by the resurrection Jesus died because of your sins but he was raised to rify you do you see it you have Resurrection righteousness that means it's real that means God's not pretending that means Jesus rose from the dead to make you write at a core level it is a heart transplant it is a DNA swap your righteousness is not positional it's actual now here we see another verse if a law had been given which was able to impart life then righteousness would have indeed been based on law all right so if you're following with me no notice the middle of this verse it really packs a punch it is saying that the law could not impart life do you know what that means no syringe the law has no syringe the law has no injection qualities it cannot Infuse anything into you it cannot give you life but Jesus can and Jesus did and when he imparted life to you that's how you became righteous do you see it well if you don't see it there's one more time one more chance to really catch this Resurrection righteousness in First Peter chapter 3 we see the solution to an evil conscience a dirty conscience Peter says corresponding to that baptism now saves you but he wants to clarify he says not water baptism not the removal of dirt from the flesh but an appeal to God for a good conscience notice this through the resurrection of Jesus Christ now again when I was a kid if you had asked me you know a good Christian kid if you had asked me how do you get a good conscience I would have given you the textbook answer the blood of Jesus the cross you get a good conscience because you're forgiven you get a good conscience because because Jesus took your sins away but that's not what Peter's saying he's going beyond the blood he is now saying you can have a good conscience because of the Resurrection what how do you even put those two together well now you can right because of the Resurrection you're righteous and because you're righteous you can have a clean conscience every day all day long you are the righteousness of God you know he doesn't even say Paul doesn't say that uh you're kind of righteous like God he doesn't even say you have the righteousness of God no like a gift package no he says you are the righteousness of God I mean that is in your face man he's trying to tell you something big you are my righteousness now take that in soak in that for a day a decade we've got something to celebrate don't we Resurrection also means you have victory over sin are you struggling with temptation is it that gossip is it that lust is it that thing that takes hold is it that ego attitude is it that lack of forgiveness that bitterness and resentment is it what what do I do and a constant struggle and a friction well you'll notice here that our Victory comes through understanding the resurrection death no longer is Master over Jesus for the death that he died he died to sin once for all but the life that he lives he lives to God even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jes Jesus all you say okay I've got a real problem all right I've got bitterness resentment lust I've got a real problem and I'm reading this verse with you Andrew and I'm not seeing it like I don't see the answer I don't see what you're talking about I just see a Bible verse staring me in the face and I'm trying to apply give me something practical all right I hear you watch this so Jesus died and rose again and then the app lication is when the sinful thought comes your way you know that angry embittered thought you know that resentful thought or that lustful thought you get to say I'm dead to that thought and I'm alive to my God and right there is the truth for you in that moment see I used to fight Temptation with rules Thou shalt not do it you better not do it if you do it then you're really in trouble with God well the truth is you're not you're not in trouble with God there's no condemnation for those who are in Christ but now I've discovered that I actually hate sin see I heard all the time as a young person that sin was exactly what I wanted but I better not do it sin is exactly what's going to make me happy like the world because they're so happy and yet you better not not do it because you're a Christian now well let me tell you if that's your belief system good luck you're toast the reality is you don't want to sin now if you don't believe that yet you're going to prove it you'll prove it by sinning and being miserable or you'll prove it by bearing fruit and being happy but you'll prove it one way or another that you're different than the guy next door you're different you're made for so much more sin is beneath you you're above sin you're better than sin do you see what God is doing he's affirming you he's saying next time that thought Comes Your Way say that thought is not from me I'm dead to it and I'm better than that because I'm in Christ Resurrection means you have a new way to walk look at this therefore we've been buried with him through baptism into death so that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the father so we too might walk in newness of Life man I don't know if you've figured this out yet but we're aliens we're aliens in this world I mean we are from a different place we are ambassadors and Aliens this is not our home we got a whole new way to think a whole new way to act and it's really because we've been infused with the life of Jesus we got a whole new walk and we got a whole new attitude we're going to finish with this why did Jesus Christ rise from the dead why are we making such a big deal out of this because the resurrection brings us a new attitude you have a new attitude now Colossians chapter three if you have been raised up with Christ keep seeking the things above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God set your mind on the things above not on the things that are on earth all right so first identity you you were crucified you you were buried you you were raised to newness of Life you've been raised and put right next to God you're bonded to Jesus therefore if you're up there think about things like you're up there you know what this situation I mean it's big I lost my job I lost my friend I lost my spouse I lost my 401k I lost my it's it's big it is Big we're not going to deny the pain but we're going to have a perspective where I'm raised and seated with Christ and I'm not going to let the enemy decide my strategy I'm going to let Jesus decide my strategy I'm raised with him I'm on God's team I'm compatible I'm one one with the god of the universe as close as I can get and I've got Resurrection righteousness what did we see today well we saw 10 amazing reasons to be excited that Jesus rose from the dead number one you're saved number two you're saved forever number three you're out of your sins no longer in your sins anymore you're United with Christ number five your eternal life is his life number six you'll never die number seven you're really righteous number eight you have victory over sin through the resurrection number nine you have a new way to walk and number 10 you have a whole new attitude wow the resurrection of Jesus Christ is essential and Powerful it is the very core of our Christian faith you believe a whole lot of amazing things folks and you believe he rose from the dead I'm inviting you to believe that powerful truth that you have been raised up with him and you will never ever be the same let's pray together father we thank you for this message of Resurrection that Jesus rose from the dead and that your life in US is real that Jesus rose from the dead to make us righteous and newe hearted that Jesus rose from the dead to make make us different at the core we believe you that just beneath our skin and bones you live in us and we can't get any closer you did it all behold the finished work of Christ you finished it so we don't have to we love you father we thank you in Jesus name amen amen come on Church let's stand one more time and respond to that I'll cross that River how F life fine no more with pain and then as gives way to Victory I'll see the light of Glory in I know he is Because He Lives I Can Face tomorrow because he lives all fear is gone because I know we hold the future in life is worth the living Because He Lives
