Overview

  • Purpose: Introduction to Mind View 5

Getting Started

  • File & Map Views

    • Start by selecting the File button, then New option.
    • Choose from six map styles: Mind Map, Top Down, Left Right, Timeline, Outline, Gantt.
    • Example: Begin in basic mind map view.
  • Interface Layout

    • Central Idea (Root): Starting point for all branches.
    • Ribbon Tabs:
      • Home Tab: Common tools and options.
      • Insert Tab: Multimedia content (text notes, pictures, file attachments, hyperlinks).
      • Review Tab: Spell check, document statistics, narrate feature, managing sources/citations, find/replace.
      • Share Tab: Online workspace, Microsoft SharePoint integration.
      • View Tab: View and detail level adjustments, map navigation, legends.
      • Design Tab: Customize overall map appearance.
      • Format Tab: Customize specific branches (color, shape, font style).
    • Right Side Panel: Task timeline, multimedia catalog, calculation module.

Building a Mind Map

  • Creating Branches

    • Use Branch Icon for first idea, continue adding branches clockwise.
    • Sub-Branch Icon for sub-ideas.
    • Keyboard shortcuts: Insert (sub-branch), Enter (duplicate level).
    • Right-click menu for advanced options.
  • Organizing Content

    • Reorganize by dragging and dropping branches.
    • Convert sub-branches to main branches and vice versa.
    • Use standard Office shortcuts: Copy (Ctrl+C), Paste (Ctrl+V).
  • Templates

    • Access free templates (business, education, personal).
    • Create custom templates in "My Template" section.

Advanced Features

  • Branch Hierarchy

    • Radial order starting at 1:00, clockwise.
    • Important for exporting to Microsoft Office (section/slide/row order).
  • Text Notes

    • Insert via Home or Insert Tab.
    • Text note editor similar to Microsoft Word.
    • Editing and viewing functionality.
  • File Attachments

    • Attach files to branches (PDF, Excel, etc.).

Customizing Mind Map

  • Adding Images

    • Use Multimedia Catalog with over 2000 images.
    • Drag and drop images onto branches.
  • Branch Customization

    • Design tab affects overall map.
    • Format tab for individual branch customization.
    • Change colors, fonts, styles for clarity.

Exporting the Mind Map

  • Export Process

    • Logical order (clockwise or top-down) dictates export order.
    • Export to Microsoft Word: File button -> Export -> Microsoft Word -> Quick Word Export.
  • Export Outcome

    • Conversion to linear format in Word with table of contents.
    • Includes images, headings, text notes, and attachments.
    • Embedded files accessible directly from the Word document.
