Interview with Kai Havertz and Sophia

Good morning from London, I have a date today with Kai Havertz and his girlfriend Sophia. Two years ago, the two went to London, since then Kai has been playing for Chelsea FC. Who knows him a little, knows Kai is interested in many things, quite profound and also super funny, but in public he rather concentrates on sports. That will change a bit with the video today, because there will be a lot of very exciting interesting private insights. So look forward to the video. I am very excited to get to know the two better today and you take the chance now, because you know otherwise the video does not start at all. Subscribe very quickly to Ehrenpflaume. So enjoy the video. Okay, so the rule, dogs not on the sofa, does not exist, that can be noted. So we are now at the training ground. Of course, I came here and you felt the price tag on my forehead. I always have them in the oven, that they are nice and warm, nice and soft. How are you? Good! Sleep well? Yes, and you? Yes three, four hours, come in. Yes I went for a walk early this morning. How are you? Good how about you? There's so much mud and everything. And then they always put on these bathrobes. Ah here's another one and you look like you're wearing a bathrobe, and have none on at all. We have been living here for 1 year now. We have lived in Wimbledon before, but ten minutes away and have moved here for a good year. And we also feel really comfortable here, I must say. Okay, so the rule, dogs not on the sofa, does not exist, that can be noted. We used to, we used to have like this. But that was Impossible after 7 and a half weeks it was broken and when you start with the first one, the second one comes along That's what they always say, your first and last child always has fur. That's what they say. We always wanted to have two dogs and then always had the combo, because I always wanted a german shepherd and Sophia always wanted a golden retriever. And exactly that was then the first and, then the little man here got in the way. Our neighbor back in the old house, she bought that one. And for them it was just somehow too hard. You know how it is, they get a dog and then after three weeks they say no. It pees and poops inside, they do not understand. And, then when they were gone the dog was given and eventually just became family. Kai was at the DFB when she decided, to give the dog away. And he was like, no, I can't do it, we want to get another German Shepherd and it's all too much and, then he said to me, I'm supposed to find a home for Puch. I then also searched and a woman came, but I had a week with him alone here and was like no way that I am giving him away. Then at some point I only pretended as if I were searching. Maybe three days after Kai was back he was said come on, we keep him. Yeah I mean that is not feasible, you know. Was the house furnished? No, we did all that ourselves. Sophia did all of that. You were able to really live it up for once. Yes she really deisgned the whole house from top to bottom. We can show you that right now. That's really good. You guys want a drink? Coffee? Coffee expert ohh, I am curious about that. Nah now I have too much pressure, we just have a new coffee machine. I'm also not a coffee drinker at all, the only time, that I drink coffee is before the game an espresso. Yeah so kind of before the prematch, when we eat, then I drink an espresso, but that's it. I would never drink black coffee. I always take caffeine shots and stuff like that to get the body going a little bit. Is the caffeine shot more in the form of a gel then? Nah we have these small things, cola, or cherry flavored caffeine shots. That's exactly what I'll drink. Mostly always, before I go out to warm up, so that there is half an hour in between. And otherwise, I think everyone has their own routine, what you need somehow. With me it is rather not such things, but good music and such is actually enough for me before the game. What do you listen to then? Scooter, haha! Sometimes now before the Dortmund game I actually listened to Scooter. Hyper Hyper always goes of course. In the truest sense of the word. And otherwise actually just normal hip-hop, r&b, sometimes german rap and stuff like that. Actually, it really depends, before such a big game, then I would like to also be hyped a bit. Then I like to listen to songs like Scooter. Otherwise, I'm relatively relaxed, actually. Do you watch nutrition at home a little bit? Is that an issue? So honestly, last summer I completely changed my diet and had a nutritionist. And I just wanted to become a bit more professional and everything like that. Did that for half a year actually and we had a cook in London at the beginning, who came every day and cooked for us. And I have to say, I did not feel good at all. This has had the complete opposite effect on me. What did the nutritionist recommend? He said to me, because i'm a total sugar freak. You probably noticed that yesterday, I drink coke after the game and I need sweets and stuff, because that gives me strength and energy and he then said, stop completely, with it. I stopped completely and that had the opposite effect on me. And, then we got a nutritionist at Chelsea and he completely went the other policy and said Kai you need the Fanta, you need the coke, drink one a day. At halftime I get gummy bears, Skittlez or something. And he has completely followed the other policy and, then I said ok, I'll do it again and that moved the push in my body and I was full of energy again. That's why, now the tide has turned a bit, now Sophia is the cook and actually cooks almost every day by now. What's your favorite food of hers? In fact, quite simple, she makes a good tuna pasta. I believe, you learned from your mom? That sounds so gross actually. Most people are like ewww, but it's really so delicious. It is really delicious! Sophia's mom is from Colombia. Colombia is famous for the tuna pasta haha! No, but that's why there are sometimes Colombian specialties, not the tuna pasta. What are the Colombian specialties? Sancotcho is my favorite dish. What is it? It is a soup with a lot of meat. Chicken is in there, oxtail, and so a lot of meat and that comes with rice and we eat a lot of avocado and yeah. That's exactly what I learned, always eat avocado with rice. I'm going to make myself a quick bagel. I haven't had breakfast yet. Do you want one too? What do you like on your bagel? Something like cream cheese. Because we have here. I have already put some things out. Yes, because we have a German supermarket near here and we always go shopping there and buy all this. And they actually have German products as well? Yes, they have German products. It's just like a kiosk, nothing big, or something, but you won't find something like MezzoMix in England. Was it a big adjustment for you to move here? Yes. Unfortunately, we also had the misfortune, that we moved here in lockdown and that was already a big adjustment for both of us, because we both sort of moved away from home from our friends, our family and then Kai was gone a lot, that was also another change. Yes, that always happens and you are on the road a lot. And, then yes, no one here knows you. She has all her friends in Cologne. It always sucks because from the outside, the players' wives are always looked at and told that yes, they have a great life, this and that. But I mean, she gave up her life for me, so to speak. I believe, you would have never moved to London, and you might have studied in Cologne, so you go out of your comfort zone. And, after all, it's a big step for her too. And I have my teammates here, I get to know people and she is just alone at the beginning here that's why I think, it wasn't easy for her either, but the bottom line, I think, it has also brought you further. We were 21 and 20, when we moved. You always forget that, but that's the way it is in football in general and with many players, the development starts so early. After all, it's getting younger and younger now. How old were you when you started at Leverkusen? 17? Exactly, you were also the youngest at the time and yes 17. When you look at what your seventeen-year-old friends are doing and what your life looks like then. And now you are what, 24 now I think. 23 That's right, you'll turn 24. You are still very young and then look at everything that has already happened in this time. I think it was the same with me, I moved out when I was 15 and the whole development just went faster for me than maybe with others, I'd say. And of course it does something to you when you move out at 15, and then somehow with 16, 17 move into the first own apartment with my brother. That's why, I think, generally we have simply developed quickly, have grown up quickly. We live alone, we have no one and are on our own, we have three dogs to feed, one horse. That's just a lot of work and that's why. I would do it all over again I must say anyway. So it's worth it. That sounds good to me, that sounds happy. Yes in any case it is definitely a change, but I think always, when you move abroad, then it all just takes time. What does Monte say? Man can get used to anything. One of Monte's many words of wisdom. So shall we take a little tour? With pleasure! I'm afraid I'm going to have to take my foot off you now. I have been hogged. So kitchen. Beautiful kitchen. Actually a party kitchen. Although I'm afraid there are not so many parties here with you. Office. Exactly, small office. That's where Sophia usually does her stuff and here is the living room, where we actually always stay. Very nice, very bright. So you also picked out the furniture and everything? Yes, yes, they are in fact all borrowed. So there is a company, where you can rent furniture here. This is quite practical, because when you move so much, then you don't always have to take all the stuff with you. You never know where it's going next. Maybe you don't want to take it all with you to Munich. All Bayern fans here? I am a Bayern fan. Yes then here we actually have the room as good as unused actually. It is admittedly the dining room, but we actually always eat in the kitchen, because there are only two of us. That's interesting, too. Okay the next living room. That is the party basement. We always planned to throw a party, but. We have never done it. So far we have not done anything, but we will see. And there we have a small gym. So first, of course, we still have to look at the little hall of fame here. Does every player get a replica? No. So you can actually just buy those, when you have won the trophy, this is really an original replica. But every player who has won the Champions League, can theoretically buy a copy of the trophy? Exactly. Sophia once gave this to me for my birthday. Yes, of course, it is a special moment. Especially with everything that is connected to it. Yes, it was really cool back then. I already saw that yesterday, you have a very long tongue. That's what I said yesterday in the game. I think it always comes out automatically. Who plays the piano of you two? Yes, no longer. Unfortunately, really everybody comes over and says. How did you learn to play the piano? I took a piano coach for six months and learned a few songs and I can't do anything anymore. That was 2, 3 years ago and I really can't do anything anymore. I actually played quite well, just for fun sometimes, but I bought the piano at that time and took it with me here, but I sometimes sit in front of it and think, "What did I do there again?" but I can't think of anything anymore. I've always thought about that, when you play football, play professional football. I don't know, like how the freedoms here in London are, I would assume you can move around quite freely here. But there are cities really, where nothing works at all, I once experienced Madrid with Toni, that is simply impossible, they can not go out, go out for dinner somewhere, because immediately the fans. Always ends in chaos. And you are of course somehow bound to your private life. So you have little freedom and you have to find something. Yes of course, for us as I said, it is, as you say relatively relaxed. So we can go to a restaurant normally and stuff like that. Sometimes, of course, you have to take pictures, but is not so, that crowds of people then rush at you. Is there a lot of paparazzi around? Yes, but fortunately we don't have much experience with that yet. But also generally in English weeks we are not the ones, that just go out every day, we maybe go out to eat twice a month and the rest we are always just at home and eat here. We live like a fifty-year-old couple probably, with the dogs on the couch and watching Who Wants To Be A Millionaire in the evening. Wrong show! But you only get RTL here. Exactly, haha, that's why. So, small home gym. Who uses it more? Not me. Ok, I understood the look. Sophia not at all. . . I tried. Peloton is good. Yes, exactly, so that's what I do sometimes, what, if I don't do anything at the training site. Upper body strength not much either, but just so that you have something at home. You probably have a good gym at Chelsea too? Yes exactly a giant gym. You will see it later, we have a big gym, so sometimes after training when I have no desire to stay there, then I come home and do something for myself in the evening, but most of the time I do everything at Chelsea right after practice. And I am honest, the gym is not my favorite place. I am not gym type at all and I really have to force it on me. I would never voluntarily sit down and lift weights, but that is just rather a must, so that I just feel better, but I do not enjoy it. But do you have the feeling, since you became more robust and a little heavier, that this also helps in the game? Absolutely. I think that I have now in recent years made quite a development, also physically in robustness and so on and believe, that I generally like the playstyle more and more now, even if at the beginning it was not exactly my style of football. I told you that I gained five to six kilos, but I also don't want to get too massive. I profit from my lanky nature and agility in football in general. And I don't want to lose that either, so I have to find the golden mean and not do too much either. How excited are you, when he plays? Very actually. It used to be better, but since we've been here, it has definitely already gotten worse. Because you know that with the result and the performance also the mood fluctuates, or? Yes, it really takes a lot out of me. I must say, his mother and sister are really worse than me, sometimes after halftime, they don't even come back out. But I know, I like thrills like that, but at the home games now, like the Champions League game against Dortmund. That was really hard. Here in the back, that is my second area. My retreat, when Sophia sometimes gets on my nerves. When Sophia is not around, if you ever have an away game. When I'm busting his balls. He wanted to say. There is many exciting things in here. You're streaming too, aren't you? Yes, we used to stream with the guys from Leverkusen for a while, but not anymore for 2, 3 years now. Samma leave it. Samma this is my only hattrick ball. And is there a jersey, where you say, that is special to you? So from Cristiano. Did you wash this? Yes, yes. I wash them all. Also Cristiano's?! This is also a cool one from Dirk. That's not true at all, he signed that for me. It says for Kai. I still got the order to beat you briefly in table tennis. Yes, easy. That is not a problem. You think it's easy to rip you off? No, It's easy for me to rip you off, I think. Come. Are you good or what? Once to eleven, okay? To the task, no warm up. That's so bad. She's so ball crazy. So I'll let you feel my hardest weapon. You are such a Schnibbel brother. 7-0 is immediate KO. How are you? Good to see you. All good? I'll be there in five minutes. To loose like that is horrible. Very well played! Thanks likewise. But something like that is not sympathetic either, when you always win. Actually, the host is not allowed to win. People don't want to see that. They don't want to see, that I am better than my guests. Cool, I just wanted to show this quickly, because I have already seen it a few times, but that's pretty cool. The travel case, the Playstation in the travel case. Do you have a screen there? Yes there is a screen inside, this is now the one with PlayStation 4, but that's already available with PlayStation 5. Exactly, you can put everything in here, controllers. And it is just perfect for us, because we generally travel a lot, I always take it with me and can then play something in the hotel. Especially with the national team, if you are there one and a half weeks, or training camp with Chelsea. Is is really practical. Cool yes, very good. Yes, this is another trophy. Everyone gets something like that, for example. We don't get the big trophy then, but get a miniature. That was from the Supercup, for example. Also quite beautiful. So what is still missing? Yes, the world cup would have fit in well. You still have a little time, don't you? Sure, but of course World Cup is the biggest goal in any case, or the Euros, next year in Germany we have to attack again. Let's go! We need some support, where were you in Qatar? Yes, unfortunately I had to work. These are always the high phases for me. So around the end of the year, beginning of the year is always a lot. And there was no chance. Then it could have ended differently, if I had been there? Who knows. Next year then. I'll be at the start of the Euro. Very good! So, you have an appointment here? Yes. How are you doing? Also all good. What needs to be done today? Let's see. Routine check. The last years I always had problems especially somehow at the end of the season like muscle fiber tear, or such smaller things. Fortunately, I haven't had anything big yet. But it is really crazy, ever since summer when I met him, I really didn't have anything yet. So no minor complaints either. I also often have knee problems, like fluid in one knee, I also had that now for a short time. But then I called him and asked him, what can I do? Then he tells me: ice on the knee and a little bit of cycling. The next day the fluid was out of the knee so. Are you quite mobile? So you're a mobile guy? Yes, so-so, so i think, more is possible in any case. I'm not blatantly immobile now, but also not. But you can reach the ground with your fingertips? Hard. . . just so probably. I will quickly put on a pair of shorts and a T-shirt. One minute. Super here. If I do the same thing on the other side. It is already better but... Lay down. Lay down? So it's not like no one has taken care of it yet, but if Kai is still changing anyway, then it doesn't matter, which Kai you are treating. But this is the wood. Ohhh, I just thought. But do you know each other? No, actually not. I am restored. Now let's see if you still get TÜV. Yes who knows. Thank you so much and you let Thomas know. So we go to the training ground? Exactly, I'll show you the training area and then we'll meet at the horse. I get to drive, as long as I don't break a rim. Ok this one is also undamaged. Here, you can hit it. Oh, that looks nasty, of course. Can you do that? Training ground is not at the stadium? Ne, completely outside. The drive from the training ground to the city is one hour. That's why we live in Wimbledon, because we are completely in the middle, to the training ground it is 25 minutes and to the city also 20-30. How good was your English when you came here? Acceptable, I was able to conversate. Quite normal, of course, you often lack the vocabulary and so in general football, there are so many football expressions, which are used here, where I actually thought for example you say coach, but here they call the coach 'gaffer'. So a word that you would never have thought of, you know. And I had to learn the football vocabulary first, but in general I could already speak English quite well. Did not take long, let's put it this way. Not as nice as an Audi, but drives ok. Are you an Audi Ambassador, or what? Yes. I knew it was going to happen, because you've been driving so close to the sidewalk the whole time. I've been looking the whole time, when is the time? Can you tell from the cars who is already there? 2, 3 players are here, I think. But you know what's good, it is the same place, which was also damaged before. Look here, because that was the undamaged part of the rim. You can pay me! I will send you my IBAN. Yes, I will paypal you. I paypal you a rim. Happens. Yes, okay, I have a well running youtube channel. So we are now at the training ground far away from the stadium, I personally did not know that. So now we are actually completely in the other direction somewhere on the countryside. Yes, exactly it is about an hour away from the city. Cobham is the name of the neighborhood and is completely in the country, rural location. I believe, the training ground was built in 2000 or so. So you see there, they're doing a little remodeling, the locker room is renewed, but otherwise it's actually pretty cool. Is there such a thing as a second team? Yes, we have a U23 here. this here is the area where you also train? These are the two fields here, then the two fields there they were also just renewed. And behind that, there are still two fields for the professionals as well. Okay, but why so many fields? Yes, so, when we train the fields degrade pretty quickly. That way we can split it up a little bit. I also believe the grass there is also a bit different than the grass here. I believe, we usually train on it in the summer and, as you can see, the field is being completely redone. And what is the process? So when do you need to be here then? So normal training day? Normal training day, most of the time, I get up around 8:30 and, then we have to be here by 9:30, an hour and a half before the start of training. So we always start at eleven and then everyone is usually in the gym around 10:30. Are you having breakfast here together? Yes we have breakfast here together, not mandatory, but whoever wants breakfast, can have breakfast here. And then everyone to their liking does something in the gym, some get treatments. Then eleven o'clock is the start of training. Then we usually train like this for an hour, depends on the day, hour and a half, and, after that it is also up to each person, treatment, gym, whatever. Lunch will be served here again? Yes also available here. And most of the time I get back home around 2:30 - 3:00. So nine to three most of the time. And you usually have one single training session then? Yes. Except in preparation sometimes two, but that is also relatively rare. Once a day, especially now in the English weeks, you don't have much time to train anyway and sometimes you don't train at all. So you come in here, do regeneration and the next day before the game it is already final training and, then you go out there on the pitch and talk through the standard situations once. And that was it. So there's really not much there. Here on the screen there, there is always such a huge screen, it will rolled over here. And, then you see different video sequences of the opponent, where to stand. And we do that sometimes, for example, the day before the game. So you do that directly here on the field. Most of the time still before the training we have a meeting inside, so that you know roughly what is coming up and, then when we go out, we also do some things on the screen and talk about that. And what about punctuality. So, when you say 9:30 here, is that, then really 9:30 here? So for me it is. I am always on time. You come from Germany, exactly you are german. But of course, you know the traffic here. Often times you're stuck in a traffic jam somewhere, here, too, especially in the countryside, if then somehow bicyclists are there, you lose a couple of minutes. And, then, if you are late, you have to pay. Is there a penalty catalog? How much is the minute? I think 500 per minute 500, if I am not wrong. That's juicy, though. Yes, I know. And what else is on the list of penalties? Many things, many things. Cell phone rings in the meeting, being late to the game, for example, is also double again, I think. Then for example, when you have media appointments and you are not there or you are too late to your treatments. So that's a lot on there and we have a treasurer and he collects the money. Old school it is. And what happens to the money in the end? I think it is donated to good causes. How is it overall with cell phone use here? I have to say, that's pretty present, so that's a complete difference from Germany. In Germany, for example, when you have a treatment, then no one is allowed to lie there with a cell phone. You talk to the physical therapist. And here it is the complete opposite. So everyone is walking around with their cell phones, at dinner everyone sits with their cell phone, sometimes we have dinner, then there are five TVs hanging there, everyone watches on TV, on the cell phone. So, that is quite a difference. I thought at the beginning, that just came from Germany and now it caught up with me, so now I also lie on the bench and use my phone, which is actually shit, but that's just normal here. Now I'll lead you in here, here is actually not the main entrance. Here we always go out before training and everyone puts on the shoes here. What's it like here with cleaning shoes and stuff? So I only know about the Bayern locker, you come from training, there the shoes, there the clothes and everything is washed. Yes, it is the same here. So we have gear wardens, then depending on the player, some players want the shoe soft before training, for example, then we have ovens warm up the shoes before training. Some players do not want their shoes cleaned. It depends on how you feel. Where is your locker? So how do you like your shoes before the game? I always have them in an oven, so that they are nice and warm, nice and soft, so that when I go out on the pitch my feet do not get cold. I've never heard of that before. These are real insights. This is where the shoes go in the oven. Does that also happen in the national team? Yes, every club has these by now. Here is the Gym, you can film down if you want. I think back there is the area, where everyone is doing treatments and stuff. It's all under here, so you're not seeing this now, but I'm actually always relatively relaxed and just do what the athletic coach tells me. So regeneration. Pool and all that. Crazy right, all the legends that have played here? I have seen Arjen Robben in particular many times, I had completely forgotten that he played here. Yes, he was here for a short time. We talked about this briefly yesterday, but your transfer fee was, of course, enormous. Do you even think about it yourself as a player, when you are transferred for so much money. Does this create pressure? Yes, that's how it was for me. I believe, there are many who may think differently and don't care, but of course, I got here and you got the feeling, you had the price tag written on your forehead. And everyone judges your performance but that there is a person behind it, who is 21 years old and for whom all this is new territory, who has never been abroad, many people just don't see that. Many just see, you have to perform, he must play well and, if you don't play well, then you will be criticized. And that's how it was for me, of course, so the first six months were tough, because the league was a big change for me, too. That of course plays into all the thoughts and then you go home and think, are you even worth it right now, or was it the right decision. It was the most expensive or second most expensive transfer? This was the most expensive at the time. Now we have bought Lukaku and Enzo Fernandes, they also both cost 120 and 100, but at the time it was the most expensive and yes, it is of course a lot of pressure on your shoulders. But I think, at the latest with the victory in the Champions League final. Yes, that helped me, especially after the first year. Repaid. Yes we had a crap season, we were bad in the league and, then Thomas Tuchel came in and turned the tide completely. We won the Champions League, even made it into the top 4 in the league. So the year ended really well for me personally and was of course already good for me, that it happened this way. Because I believe If I hadn't made the goal, I would have had an even harder time than I do now, And yes I am definitely very happy about it, that it has come to this. What has changed since that day? Also perhaps in the club, have you been treated differently? I think so, of course, it plays a role in self-confidence for the time being, because they've only won the Champions League twice at Chelsea and you've actually scored one of the most important goals for the club. And you always feel that, so it doesn't matter, where I go, the first thing anyone says, is thank you for the goal. This is of course a mega feeling and I also said afterwards to my family, to my brother, it doesn't matter what happens now. I can finish my career in two years for all I care, I will be happy, I have fulfilled my dream. Above all, because the Champions League for me was the tournament, that I always wanted to win. That was from an early age, I think, I watched every Champions League game, every final with my brother and my parents at home in front of the TV. This trophy, then you hold it in your hands, was unique for me. I know, that it is for everyone, but for me it somehow has a special meaning. That's why I'll definitely be forever grateful for it, and of course two years later I'm no longer like that and think to myself that I want the next Champions League, hold the next title in my hands. Because it is simply the best feeling, but at the time, of course, it already helped extremely. Do you feel that during the moment? Do you really grasp what happens at that moment? I don't know either. For me, it's still not one hundred percent real, when I think about the moment, where I scored the goal and everything about it really feels like a movie sometimes. But of course, meanwhile, when you see the videos, see the photos, the emotion of the people, that just came out, that is the most beautiful thing for me. When I see reactions like that from people who were happy, that you have made other people happy, that they can now somehow say for the rest of their lives, we watched the game, we have won the Champions League, is the most beautiful feeling for me, apart from my emotion, of course. How many times did you rewatch it? Already many times yes many times. Honestly, Sometimes before important games like Dortmund, for example, I like to watch it again. So the situation, the celebration, the goal and so to become a bit more motivated and to think, the emotion, you want to feel it again. And yes, it really helps sometimes, and then you think to yourself nice. Because that was the Corona year, I believe, the stadium has 50.000 seats and there were only 35,000. And now actually experiencing everything under normal circumstances, with the full ceremony and such, I will hopefully to be able to experience it again, it would be really really cool and I'm definitely working towards that. You've been doing this from a young age, so logically you grew into it, started at some point and then also ran through youth teams. What I always wonder, walking out in the stadium. So, when you play in front of a big audience for the first time and, then the people, yelling your name and everything. That must trigger something in you, that must also change something, or is it that, when you experience it weekend after weekend. At home, you're usually celebrated, away, you'll probably also be booed frequently by the opposing fans. Do you hear the reaction of the audience during the game? Yes, after the action in any case, when an action is completed and you notice the crowd roughening, of course, then of course you get that But for me, it's always really anticipation, so the nervousness in the meantime is quite, quite low. Of course, before important games you are already tense and nervous too I would say, but for me it is now anticipation. Also such situations as yesterday's penalty. Of course there's a lot at stake and you know everybody's looking at you and everybody's watching you and, if you fuck up now, then everyone laughs at you. But for me, it's honestly just pure anticipation. You just know you have your friends, your family, your girlfriend, she's looking at you right now and she never expected, that you'll kick a penalty for Chelsea at some point. And that feeling of having somehow made everyone proud, that is much higher for me than all the rest. So when you kick a penalty like you did yesterday, you go to the penalty spot and look forward to taking it right now. That's good. Yes, in any case. And that took me a while, too, because I also had bad phases of course like anyone, where you think to yourself, I don't even want to compete right now, I'm gonna fuck this one up, and I'm in such a bad mood right now, no self-confidence, I will miss 100 percent. But in the meantime, football for me, I enjoy football because it is my passion, my fun and what's in it for me to put so much pressure on me. Of course, there is always great pressure also at Chelsea and the situation right now is disaster, but it always helps me to be relaxed and joke around in the dressing room even before the game or when you go out warming up. It just helps me to concentrate and also a little bit of self-confidence, feel the ball, a little bit of faxing just to warm up for example now. That helps me, I simply have a better feeling in the game, instead of, when I'm sitting there just in tunnel vision and so focused. I'm usually always too tense then, and that does not help me either. For your siblings, you have two older siblings, did they also have this typical life on the sidelines. What siblings so often experience? Yes so my brother I mean, who was also soccer crazy in the past, also played soccer himself and we played every day in the garden. Really after school home, shoes on, out in garden. We had the great luck, that we had a large garden and good lawn too, which my father always took good care of. And really played soccer every day. He has actually experienced everything with me and is now also, I don't want to call it a consultant, but my closest confidant in the whole football world. He works in a consulting agency, or exactly management agency. But in the end, he is my first point of contact, when it comes to such things and football. And, of course, he has helped me extremely. He has always accompanied me in my career from a young age on, he knows me, and my sister was just in the middle of it and she already got a few balls against the head, and has also always been the one who is not up for it, but has always pulled along. Did she play another sport? She used to ride. And no, not really, not a competitive sport. And mom, dad, who was responsible for what? Because that has to be said at this point, because the parents also have a special task. When you have a son that plays performance-based, on such a high level. So going to training, games, accompany everything. They both were, honestly. My parents used to drive me to every game, to each tournament, whether it was Holland, there have sometimes been car trips over 4-5 hours. They have always gone there, have taken me there, picked up whatever, were always there on the sidelines. Actually, always the silent companions, they never said anything, what did you do today, why were you bad My father never gave me any tips, what I can do better, or so. They always just said to me, do your thing, if you're up for it, to keep this going, then do it, but no one is forcing you. And that also gave me all the freedom, so to speak. But yes, they were always there. I believe, in the beginning at Leverkusen I always had a driving service, but he never drove on fridays, so then I went to training with my mother. My father also livedcwith me in Cologne, when I moved out of the host family, into my apartment and was there for me. I was 16 then, 17. They have also experienced everything and have always been by my side and have always accompanied me, helped me. And you also did your A-levels on the side. Exactly, I also graduated from high school during that phase, when I also played Champions League. And that's when my parents used to say, just do it. I have, of course, I must admit, gotten a lot of help from the school. Thanks there again. They helped me a lot and I was never at school, always at practice, and we used to have practice with the pros at 11 o'clock, it was school time and after the training I had to catch up on my own. And the teachers helped me and studied together with me. So what grade average came out of it? 1,8. No, just joking, haha. What do you think? I would say anything between 2.8 and 3.5? You think I'm that bad? No, I think that was simply what was possibe. No it was 3.4. And did you have any ideas what you would do, if football would have not worked out after all. Was there any idea, where you say then I would do this and that. Yes, so my dream, not dream, but I always had the idea to become a hairstylist. I don't know, why. Really not. I find that really surprising now. It is a very honorable profession, but that would not be the first thing I would have thought of. I believe, I find cutting hair is a kind of art too and I like art. And generally just, when I now see how they cut the transitions, or so, I think it's pretty cool. That's why I always had this idea, why not, hopefully I'll open my own barbershop someday. But that was also always just a joke I made, but I already thought of it that way. Have you ever cut your teammates' hair? Nope, but the funny story about this is that I got a gift from friends for my birthday, I got a set for cutting hair. And they sent me a video of how to do it, to cut my brother's hair on vacation, for example. And I've cut my brother's hair before, I can show a video right now, but then when we were on vacation and I had the set with me, so I said to my girlfriend, you can cut my hair, I have the video here that is quite simple. She then started, first zero millimeter here outside. And all of a sudden it was like 'Wum'. And, then I had a huge hole in the head up here, simply bald here. And, then there was a big fight. And I had a hole in my head and had to, then. So only in the hair not in the head. In the hair exactly. And since then, I no longer dare to do it Only let professionals do it. But maybe that would be something. So you do not have to cut yourself, but just as Lukas Podolski has his kebab stores and ice cream parlors. One hundred percent, that was always my brother's and my idea anyway. We used to say like, we open a hair salon and an espresso bar. Something cool. And we always have that in mind, let's see, maybe in a couple of years. Why not. Thank you very much! Exciting insight. Yes, I would have liked to show you more. That means we go to the stable now? Exactly to the stable, which is five minutes from here. Thats where our horse is, our sick horse actually, it is a bit banged up at the moment. And yes, it is more Sophia's hobby and I sometimes go and feed it a few carrots and that's it. Do you want to drive? I prefer to drive, otherwise it will be expensive for you! Hello, there you are again. I hope your shoes can get dirty. Yes. We'll drop them off again at the training area later. Hello Jani. So this is the dear nice Cielo. You want to suck it up already? Sucking up in the truest sense of the word? Ended up with my aunt and from there we brought him over. And now he has to learn to walk on the other side. Kai broke my rim. Really? Yes he did and I saw it coming. When, where? In the end, at the very end. I do have great respect for horses. I was about to say. You've already sat on bigger ones. But I still have respect for horses. Be careful not to destroy the horse as well, first the rims then the horse. Not that I break the horse now. Shall I take over? It's more like a dog's arcade. Really doggy playgorund here. This is Doggy Daycare here. What's going on? That's the elemental power that horses have. But you've ridden him before? Yes, i have ridden him before. So once I went on it with saddle and then it was okay. My sister also used to ride and I sometimes went with her to the riding stable and that's how I knew, I can sit on it, sat on it, but then nothing worked at all, just hobbled up and down and, then I sat on it once here in the hall without a saddle. And, then the colleague humped me down for a moment. Since then I don't go on it anymore. Animals have always been our thing. That's right. But breeding horses, that is not a plan? We definitely want to have a stable after the career. Absolutely, where we can have several horses also donkeys and the dogs, that they have something nice there. Maybe a farm or something, that is definitely the goal at some point, that the man can also stand in the garden. You still have a little time. What are you doing in the future, do you have any ideas? I am very involved in the foundation in any case. Exactly, We still have to talk about that, too. The foundation is actually like this, the main theme I would say. This is what is most present with us right now and should be even more present in the future. With us in everyday life. Because Sophia is the person, who is closest to me and knows my emotion, so to speak, knows my way of thinking. And exactly, she is now active in the foundation and helps. How did you get the idea to start a foundation? The idea started relatively early. I used to dream as a child and said in the future I would like to have 20 donkeys and 20 horses in the garden. And with time the thought has changed, that we can also help sick animals. And the whole thing started, when we met someone at that time, Peter North, who works in a Donkey Park. He takes care of sick donkeys, donkeys standing at the butcher, to be slaughtered, bad posture etc.. And my parents gave me a gift for my 18th birthday. I was given a partnership with three donkeys, there in the donkey park. Then with time, we got along well with Peter, we actually always drove there after every game, have spent time with the donkeys. And for me, that was such an issue, to see these animals and to know that last week he was still in a slaughterhouse and now he has a nice life. And, then we were already talking about it back then, yes, we have to do something of our own somehow. Because the bottom line is that it's kind of hard to always help there, but we just wanted to somehow build something of our own. And, then we now had the idea, implement the whole thing with our own foundation and have now probably just two years ago, started with it, to build that, this is a big topic. Building a team, that can manage everything. And have chosen different areas, in which we would like to help. Which areas are these then? We have started now, because the main topic was animal welfare. But then for example in the donkey park there were kindergarten groups, children with ADHD, disabled children, old people, grandmas grandpas who came along. And you noticed, a child with ADHD, for example, gets there and is all psyched up, they see this donkey and suddenly they are calm and stroke the donkey and everything is okay. That means, you can also use all these animals for therapy. And then we tried to mix both together somehow so we now have animal welfare, then youth and elderly support. We also want to help in connection with animals, as I said, and in general with the promotion of young people in sports, because of course I've been through the journey from being a little boy on the football field starting in Mariadorf, to play at Chelsea now. I know exactly, that many children do not have the opportunities and resources, to walk this path that I have walked. I mean I have never been short of soccer shoes, I always had balls, I had all kinds of things, had jerseys. But there are many children, those who have the dream of becoming a footballer, but do not have football boots, for example. And exactly in these issues we just want to help and I think, the foundation is good, because this is our own thing, we can decide, where we want to help. And we are well positioned, not everything works out perfectly from the first day, but we have a slogan, which is called 'We work and progress' and it will be a cool thing. The foundation is then called the Kai Havertz Foundation? Exactly And what is the distribution of tasks? So what are you doing now, for example? I am currently doing project management in the UK and Jan in Germany. So we help each other there. Your siblings are involved in this too? My sister is the manager and that's pretty cool, because as I said, she is just my sister and she works in the foundation, so to speak, and her dream was always to give something back. And I think, this is also such an issue for Sophia now especially, that she can get in touch with people, who need the help and, then to exchange with them and to ask, how we can help. Many people, need help in the world, we know that, but then to pick the right topics, that's one part that she will manage. Generally the team behind it are also just people, who are volunteering there at the moment and people, I know. For example, Peter North will be active there. And people like I said, from my environment. At the moment we are starting small and we then want to make it as cool and as big as it can be. And you always have to say, because of course I know that from others, because everyone thinks now, so the foundation has nothing to worry about, because it has so much money, because you are behind it. So of course you're putting money in there, but nevertheless every foundation is also dependent on donations. Exactly us too. We rely on donations. So we will put all the details in the video description, there you will find everything, if you are looking for more information. Just have a look at the video description. Now that the topic has come up, thank you for the donation, the generous donation. I did not want to text you but thank you personally. That really means a lot and you're actually one of the first donors for it. Therefore really many dear thanks, that means a lot to us. I will send some more for the rim. We're going to eat now. A little something. I need to top my burger first. I ordered sportsman food. I already played yesterday, today is cheat day. There are already quite cool stores here, little cafes and stuff, at Belly and Sake we always go shopping Is that one of the organic places? Yes, exactly. This is where we always go to buy our dog stuff. This is your bookstore? That's exactly where I always go to buy my books. Or not. Do you read once in a while? Not at all. I think I have never read a book in my life. Okay, this is very much a cliché. Listened to audio books? No, neither. I listen to podcast and stuff sometimes, Gemischtes Hack, Fest und Flauschig, then sometimes Toni Kroos', Einfach mal Luppen. Baywatch Berlin? No. This is one of my favorite podcasts. With Klaas, Jakob and Thomas Schmitt. So this is where the common starts now, that is the forest here at Wimbledon. Behind it we always go for a walk. So it is a small village, we feel comfortable here. It's Sunday now so there's a lot going on, but actually there is nothing going on here, no one is out, we have our peace. For me it was an exciting day. Absolutely! I hope you had fun too. Yes it was fun and easy going. Also for Sophia, the first time in front of the camera. Thank you very much. Good luck with the foundation. Thank you! And you know the drill, Oh, I wanted to ask something else. What we do on this channel, we always raffle something among all the people who watch the video. Jersey will probably not be a problem? Yeah I should have one. Also a played one? Yes, actually, I even have one still at home. Okay. You can find the raffle on my Instagram and the question will be, what was the alternative career that Kai could have imagined, if football did not work out? You will find the answer in the video and otherwise I can only tell you, you are of course welcome to subscribe to Sophia's and Kai's channels. You can find everything in the video description. And yes subscribe to Ehrenpflaume, you have seen once again, always the best exciting videos. And watch the video vigorously! Exactly, also like and share, because I have to pay for the rim. That's why I have to look, that the advertising revenues are also right here. This was a really expensive video today, but it was my own fault. In this sense, take care until the next video, thanks for watching. Ciao ciao!
