Neer Test for Shoulder Impingement

This is going to be the Neer test for shoulder impingement Hi everyone! The Neer test is another very common test used in the assessment of shoulder impingement. According to a big study by Hedgedus et. al from year 2012 its sensitivity is 72% and specificity rated at 60% To conduct a Neer test have your patients in a sitting position With one hand depress the scapula And with the other hand internally rotate the patient’s arm And then perform maximally forced forward flexion in the glenohumeral joint A positive test is pain reproduction on the injured side If you remember the shoulder impingement algorithm from Cools et. al You can evaluate the outcome of the Neer test in two ways If your patient primarily complains of anterior shoulder pain during the test its more an indication of subacromial impingement Where as if your patient complains about having posterior shoulder pain this is more an indication of an internal impingement All right guys, I hope you enjoyed this video If you did, make sure to give it thumbs up Subscribe to our channel Follow us on various social media Be sure to check out the theoretical video on shoulder impingement And I’ll catch you next time Bye
