Thranduil, King of the Woodland Realm

Origin

  • Thranduil was born in the First Age in Doriath, Beleriand.
  • Son of Oropher, both are Sindarin (Grey) Elves.
  • The Sindar are Teleri who never reached Valinor.
  • Protected by the Girdle of Melian until the death of King Thingol.

After Doriath

  • Doriath is destroyed post-502 FA after the second kinslaying.
  • Many elves retreat to Lindon; the Valar invite them to Aman.
  • Oropher and Thranduil choose to remain in Middle-earth.

The Great Forest

  • Arrive in the Great Forest in 750 SA, home of the Silvan Elves.
  • Oropher becomes king and establishes the Woodland Realm.
  • Sindar join with the Silvan Elves and adopt their customs.
  • Oropher moves north to avoid dwarves and others.

War of the Last Alliance

  • Oropher and Thranduil join the war against Sauron.
