procedure speaking clearly, slowly, and directly

curtain, screen or door. (knocks on door) - Knock knock, hi Mrs.
Jones, my name is Mark I'm gonna be your student nurse aid today and today we're gonna
get you in a wheelchair. Make sure the bed is made
low in lock position. Call lights within reach,
privacy curtain's pulled and wash my hands. - [Announcer] Step four,
before assisting to stand bed is a t a safe level.
Step five before assisting to stand, checks and locks bed wheels. Step six, before assisting to stand client is assisted to a sitting position with feet flat on the floor. Step seven, before assisting to stand, client is wearing shoes.

wheels on wheelchair. Step ten, before assisting to stand, footrests are folded up. - Okay, I'll grab this
call light from you. Let's pull down your sheet, making sure I don't expose you. Alright, can I have your hand? Alright Mrs. Jones we're gonna sit up on the count of three, one, two, three, good swing your legs out to the side for me. Perfect, can you put your shoes on for me? - These shoes, right? Yep. Alright make sure your
feet are flat on the floor. Alright, this time I'm
going to take off the leg that's closest to the bed, makes it easier so you can get the wheelchair
parallel to the bed and you're not at risk
of bumping your patient. The other leg I'm just gonna swing out I'm gonna put this up right beside the bed parallel to the patient. I'm going to lock my wheels. - [Announcer] Step eleven,
before assisting to stand applies transfer belt
securely at the waist over clothing or gown. Step
twelve, before assisting to stand, provides instructions to enable client to assist in transfer,
including pre-arranged signal to alert when to begin standing. - Alright Mrs. Jones, can
you lift your arms up for me? Alright during this
time, we're going to be talking about transferring a patient and how to do it successfully
doing the four points of contact, this is the
safest way to do a transfer and it's the way that state's
gonna require you to do this. So you are going to be
putting your toes to toes and knees to knees. During
this part your gonna be squatting down to get
the level of the patient and you're gonna be grasping
a hold to that gait belt. And then you're gonna have the patient grab the back of your arms. You're gonna give them a cue, so we're gonna rock and stand on three, one, two, three. See how my body mimicked
her body the entire time I kept good body mechanics,
my back was straight and my shoulders were back, okay. So Mrs. Jones sit back down for me and now we're gonna
show you how to transfer into the wheelchair. This is a stand pivot
meaning whenever you stand that patient up they need to be pivoting and sitting, they can't
take any steps backwards that's not safe. Let's make sure it's close [Announcer] Step thirteen,
stands facing client positioning self to
ensure safety of student and client during
transfer, counts to three or says other pre-arranged signal to alert client to begin standing. Step fourteen, on signal
gradually assist client to stand by grasping
transfer belt on both sides with an upward grasp,
students hands are in the upward position and maintaining
stability of client's legs by standing knee
to knee or toe to toe with the client. Step
fifteen, assist client to turn to stand in front of wheelchair with back of client's legs
against the wheelchair. - Alright, let's rock and stand on three, one, two, three, good
let's go ahead and pivot good, are your legs against
the back of the wheelchair? - Um-hmm Perfect. [Announcer] Perfect sixteen, lowers client into wheelchair. Step
seventeen, positions client with hips touching back of wheelchair and transfer belt is
removed. Step eighteen positions feet on footrest. - Using the four points of contact, again toes to toes, knees to
knees, we're gonna sit on three, one, two, three. Alright Mrs. Jones, can you
make sure you're bottom's all the way for me? Perfect. Let's take this gait belt off. Alright can you put your
foot up here for me? Okay, foot up here. - [Announcer] Step

can reach your call light. Here's your call light. Wash my hands and skill complete.
