Monetizing Your Writing Skills

Now let's talk about turning your writing skills into cold hard cash this year. Writing is one of the most popular and most celebrated online jobs and for good reasons. Most of the writers I know make a lot of money. Some do it as a full-time job and they've bought houses, cars with that hustle alone. In fact, I remember when I started my online work journey, when I was in university, I visited one guy.

A friend of mine just told me to go with him to the guy's place. And I was so shocked. A student like me living the life he was living. It was very, very new to me.

I had never seen anything like that. And it's because that guy was doing online writing. He was living a good life, had everything he needed. If you've been to campus in Kenya, you know how... campus students live.

They don't have TVs and big fridges and living in two-bedroom apartments with lovely tables. They don't have any of that. I was living in a single room with only a single bed and a little closet to put my clothes in but this guy had everything you have after you've gotten a good job and settled down. In fact, he even had a car here in second year in campus and this tells you how much money a writer can make.

And although I tried writing, it didn't pan out like it was not my thing because to be honest, I'm not the most passionate writer on the block, but I know there are people here watching me right now who want to make money as writers and are good at it or are willing to learn the skill and start making money. And this video is for you. Now let's talk numbers. According to ZipRecruiter, the average monthly income or the average monthly income for a freelance writer in the united states is four thousand and thirty four dollars and according to indeed freelance writers in the uk earn an average of 19.17 pounds an hour now for you to get to this earning level you need to start somewhere so where do beginner writers get their jobs where do they create this beautiful foundation that allows them to eventually start making four thousand dollars a month or 19.17 pounds per hour.

Which platforms can you get writing jobs for beginners? This is what I'm going to address in this video and I'm going to talk to you about three companies that hire beginner writers. They give you writing jobs or they give you an opportunity to get writing jobs and you can start your writing career.

So stay tuned and grab a drink because this is going to be a long beautiful ride. So the first platform on the list is Crowd Content. Crowd Content is a platform that connects content writers with businesses and individuals in need of high quality content.

This is a legit company that is based in Victoria, BC in Canada. Crowd Content is currently hiring writers and editors to join their content workforce. This seems like a good place for beginner and experienced writers to make some extra money this year and to also kickstart their writing careers.

You can work on crowd content as a full-time or part-time content writer, but they claim to have a lot of freelance jobs, so you can work on as many as possible depending on your schedule. Crowd content expects writers to deliver high-quality original content that meets specified guidelines. As such, they'll require you to show your capability. during the application process. Now there is no need of applying for a job you can't do so make sure you prepare adequately before making the application.

Once you create an account on the Crowdcontent platform which is very easy to do, you can choose to apply to specific projects or to join the marketplace. This is a freelance job so you work at your own time and on the editing or writing jobs of your choice. There are no minimum working hours or anything like that. And according to Crowdcontent, They have a wide variety of writing jobs to choose from. Make sure you choose writing jobs or editing jobs that you are comfortable working on because the client has to actually approve your content before you get paid.

Now, Crowdcontent pays writers twice a week, on Tuesday and on Friday via PayPal, as long as you've earned more than $10. $10 is their payment threshold. Crowdcontent uses a star system to reward writers and editors.

The higher you start rating, the more you're likely to earn from the writing jobs you work on. So there's no like set flat rate for writing jobs, but they indicate the amount of money each job is gonna pay you. So when you choose a job, you already know how much money you'll earn from it. In terms of hiring locations, Crowdcontent currently only accepts writers or editors from the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, or South Africa. Africa.

Now I know a lot more people are watching this video from countries that are not mentioned. I would advise you to try using a VPN and see whether you can get in. But ideally the best way to do it is to just apply to companies that actually hire from your location.

The second company on the list is Crypted. Now, Scripted is a content writing company just like Crowd Content that usually offers opportunities to beginner and experienced writers. This company is based in Las Vegas, Nevada, but it serves clients worldwide. They claim to offer above average pay rates compared to other content mills.

But we all know that the best way to determine whether a company is good for you in terms of their pay rates is to actually get first-hand experience. Get onto the company, work on jobs. see how much they pay you and use that to kind of make a decision on whether the company is good for you or not and just like crowd content you will be a freelance writer allowed to work from a location of your choosing work at your own schedule and on the jobs of your choosing scripted has clients from different industries so you get to pick and choose writing jobs as per your interest and expertise building long-term clients on scripted is key to getting more work and even getting higher pay.

So be intentional about creating a profile that stands out and engage with clients that you interact with. This helps build trust and it makes it easy for clients to kind of assign you their writing jobs. Now, you don't just have to rely on jobs on the jobs pool.

You can actually reach out to clients with your content ideas, pitch them, and if the client likes your idea, they will buy the content from you or they will order the content from you. And the beauty of actually reaching out to clients or pitching your ideas to clients is that you get to set your own prices. So you get to actually make more or less according to the prices you set.

So you have the freedom to make more money, more than others on the platform. By the way, the number of jobs you get unscripted depend on your writer tier. Now, new writers are assigned to... bronze tier by default but you get to move up the tiers once you start working on jobs. They don't clearly state how much writers get paid but according to my research you might earn anything between five to ten cents per word.

The company makes payments directly to writers bank accounts. Now the frequency of payment seems to depend on the writer tier that is bronze, silver, gold, or platinum. They seem to only accept applications from writers in the US and Canada, though I have seen somewhere else that they also hire from the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. Now, writer applications on Scripted are reviewed every Friday, and you'll get access to jobs once you get accepted onto the platform. If this video is being useful so far, please remember to hit the like button down below.

I will really appreciate it. The third company on this list is Constant Content. Constant Content is a marketplace that connects writers and people who need content.

Now unlike other content mills where clients get to dictate the type of content or the kind of content you write, writers on Constant Content have the freedom to write what they want, when they want, and sell to interested parties. So you choose a topic or topics you want to write about, write high quality articles, and submit them for review. Once your articles or content have been approved, they'll be put up for sale in the marketplace and you can submit as many articles as you want.

According to Constant Content, 85% of listed articles get sold each year and you can also make money by accepting writing requests from clients which is a good way to make more money and to build relationships and get direct clients because as you know, for you to be able to make the amount of money we mentioned in the beginning of the video, you need direct clients, people who give jobs directly to you and pay you the amount of money you request. Now, to join Constant Content as a writer, you have to fill out a registration form on their website, take a grammar test, and submit a writing sample. I'm gonna be honest with you, most of these content mails and other writing platforms, they require writers to submit writing sample so they can be able to assess their writing capabilities. Like I said, you cannot apply for a job you can't do.

So if you know you have never written before or you will not be able to submit a high quality writing sample, it's very important for you to kind of practice, to read about it, to watch more videos about it, and be sure to make the application when you are actually ready. Because if you submit a shoddy sample, you will not get hired. Now, once you submit your application on Constant Content, they will review your application and you'll get a response within five working days.

In terms of payment, Constant Content doesn't have a set price per word. The rates are based on the writer's skill and industry experience, as well as the type of content they produce. They pay writers who are based in the US or have a US bank account via Stripe.

International writers get paid via WISE. So if you want to work for constant content, make sure you have a Stripe account or a WISE account. If you're based in the US, make sure you have a Stripe account. If you're based outside the US, make sure you have access to WISE. They pay writers twice a month.

This is the first day of the month or the 15th day of the month. Now, thank you so much for watching this video. Let me know in the comment section. which company you will be applying for and let me know if you get in.

If you have experience with any of these companies, feel free to leave your reviews in the comment section to help other writers who are trying to figure out more about these companies I have reviewed. Remember, I do not work for these companies and they've not paid me to make this video. I make content according to opportunities I find online.

Please remember that there is no guarantee that you'll get hired when you apply to join these companies. But to increase your chances of getting hired, make sure you're submitting a high quality application. This is Tessa Ogamba. I will see you in the next video.
