Understanding the Stages of Change

hey guys I thought I'd just um hopping over here to go over something that students I find are struggling with and that is the trans theoretical model or the stages of change and I posted a visual over here that you can use to follow along so let's say you have a client in the chair he's a smoker and you know you're educating him on you know the uh trying you're trying to tell him to quit smoking and he says no absolutely no I do not want to quit smoking what stage is he in pre-contemplation that means he's no matter what you say he's not willing to change so that's the pre-contemplation stage well what if you have a client who's like um thinking about quitting smoking but not now but maybe in the near future well that type of client is in your contemplation stage and what if you have a client that is ready to quit if they're ready to quit they haven't quit yet but they are ready to quit and they are in the preparation stage and when they're on the preparation stage that's when you start planning a quick date so you usually we usually do a quick date two weeks from today so if you have a client right now that is thinking about quitting they're in the preparation stage then tell them you have two weeks two weeks you can smoke all you want if you need to and then once that two week Mark hits that's it cold turkey or think of other methods that you can do to help them with quitting smoking that's preparation
