Beginning Music Production

Working with Samples

  • Adding Samples to Playlist: Drag and drop samples into the playlist or channel rack.

Building Patterns

  • Left-click to program a kick pattern using the pencil tool.
  • Use Pattern Mode vs Song Mode for playback.
  • Adjust tempo for the song (e.g., 128 BPM).

Adding Claps and Hi-hats

  • Choose a clap sample and adjust volume in the channel rack.
  • Copy claps across the pattern using Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V.
  • Add hi-hats and program their pattern in the channel rack.

Mixing Drums

  • Adjust volume levels in the mixer to balance kick, clap, and hi-hats.
  • Use panning to create stereo separation.
  • Experiment with velocity for a more human feel.

Creating a Bass Line

Using 3x Oscillator

  • Open 3x Oscillator from the plugins list.
  • Select waveforms (sine, saw) and adjust detune and octave.
  • Use envelope settings for volume and filter control to shape the bass sound.

Programming the Bass Line

  • Use Piano Roll to program bass notes.
  • Copy and paste notes for rhythm variations.

Sidechain Compression

  • Create a sidechain trigger using a short kick sample.
  • Route the sidechain to the bass and adjust limiter settings to achieve the effect.

Adding Melody and Chords

Adding Synth Plugins

  • Use 3x Oscillator again for synth sounds.
  • Program melodies in the piano roll, using existing bass patterns as a guide.

Mixing and Effects

  • Apply reverb and delay effects as needed to enhance sounds.

Arrangement and Composition

  • Organize tracks and patterns in the playlist.
  • Use automation clips for dynamic effects (volume, reverb, etc.).

Final Touches
