[Music] hello students welcome my name is mississippita and i am thrilled to talk to you today about important skills you will utilize throughout your life today we will discuss time management organization and how this helps us succeed personally and academically before we begin i want you to think about your study habits does this look familiar to you do you think you are organized what do you think it means to be organized to be organized means having a system to keep track of important materials dates and information today i'm excited to teach you some ways that you can become more organized but first let's watch a short clip on how being disorganized makes us feel this girl's science project is due today but she can't find it in her messy locker that's an f for you [Music] [Applause] [Music] paul forgot he had practice today you're late 500 push-ups [Music] laura left a home to the last minute [Music] [Music] i hope that everybody studied hard for their test today and ethan didn't write down the day of his test [Music] wow that was terrifying i know middle school can seem kind of scary anyway and being disorganized just makes it worse when i first started here i didn't know what to do everything was so different from elementary school lots of different subjects to keep track of a bunch of teachers to get to know different rooms for each class everything about middle school was so confusing i felt the same way but as soon as i started to get organized things go right into place all it takes is a few simple strategies to stay on top of everything yeah we all learn from our mistakes and there were lots of them and now we've got our act together [Music] we know that being disorganized can be scary stressful and not make us feel good think about how being disorganized makes you feel a lot of times being disorganized can make us feel bad about ourselves too because we all want to succeed we know that we need to work really hard to improve our organization skills here are some useful tips to help you be more organized we can begin by establishing a bedtime routine think about what time you go to bed what time do you wake up do you set an alarm maybe reminders to help you remember an important date having a planner either a physical one or virtual one can help you stay organized limiting distractions is also very important so that you are able to learn and focus on your work making a to-do list and checking it off as you go will help you feel very accomplished remembering to take breaks between tasks is very important always be punctual and do turn in your homework before it is due now that you've learned about organization i want to talk to you about time management do you know what that means time management is a process of organizing and planning how to divide your time between specific activities good time management enables you to work smarter not harder so that you can get more done in less time even when time is tight and pressures are high part of being organized is learning to manage your time wisely which superhero comes to mind when i say time management is it ant-man maybe the green arrow let's find out hey there i'm jessica from learning with jessica diaz so before we can decide which superhero has the best potential for great time management let's talk about what time management is and how we can be better at it time management is planning how much time you spend on certain things it basically boils down to spending your time well wondering how you can manage your time more effectively just keep these three things in mind number one learn to prioritize prioritizing means that you can figure out what's most important and do that first so let's say that you need to clean your room and do your homework but you also really want to play luigi's mansion 3. well if you're prioritizing you'll do the most important task first followed by the task that's next in line at being the most important and that you can save time for fun stuff once you're done so if were prioritizing these three things i would do my homework then clean my room and then play luigi's mansion three number two make a to-do list a to-do list is just a list of things that need to get done now if you're new to making to-do lists it can be helpful to ask an adult for help but it basically looks like this let's say that i have homework chores taekwondo practice a test coming up on friday and a piano saddle recital on saturday that's a lot to keep track of and i'm worried that i might forget something so i write it all down the homework putting my shoes and backpack away the cleaning my room taekwondo practice my test on friday and my piano recital on saturday number three learn how to make a schedule a schedule is just to plan for when you're going to do things so if you know that you're going to have a test on friday and a piano recital on saturday you might plan to set aside 20 minutes each night to study for your test and to practice playing the piano if you write your schedule down it might look a little something like this okay now you're ready right you're ready to know which superhero has the best potential for time management it's the flash duh right can't you imagine having that super speed how quickly you get things done homework two seconds done chores three seconds done all right so remember to prioritize make a to-do list and schedule your time that's all for now see you next time [Music] in order to manage your time better remember to organize assignments or tasks by due dates avoid multitasking and break large assignments into smaller ones remember to take a break in between tasks and enjoy some free time and remember students limiting distractions and finding a quiet place to study will help us be more productive setting a bedtime routine will allow us to get enough sleep wake up feeling energetic and ready to conquer the day but most importantly always reward yourself after accomplishing important tasks this will not only make you feel happy but it will boost your motivation so don't forget always reward yourselves students give it a try apply the strategies that you learned with me today you will master these skills in no time and you will eliminate stress and have more time to do the things that you love to do but most importantly you will
