World of Warcraft: The Wall Within Expansion Overview

the inevitable question many of us ask every single year is it worth returning to World of Warcraft should I purchase that expansion or is that just a waste of my game time together we will take a look at all the new stuff coming to azoth within the next months and yes in the next years we will figure out how these things might impact your decision and hopefully by the end of this video you will feel like actually having enough information to decide welcome back I'm DAV and today we will try our very best to answer this question for W's upcoming expansion the wall within let's get started the wall within is the very first entry in a Trilogy of expansions called the world Soul Saga during this first part we will dive deep beneath the surface of Azeroth into Caz Elgar the story focuses on the Resurgence of the nerubian Empire led by queen aner and the dark machinations of zeloth the harbinger of the Void gelot once bound to an ancient Black Blade now seeks to establish a new Dark Legacy following the fall of the old gods and the black Empire she has allied with the N rubian offering them new powers to create even stronger soldiers in a quest to bring azoth to its knce in case you want to know more about her you can check out my video and in case you really really really want to get to know galath check out bellular in death video about her moving into this we will be seeing a couple of very familiar key characters and when ven is facing trouble with his connection to the Holy Light after his entanglement with domination magic th is haunted by countless visions and once more out of touch with his shame and abilities magne a favorite speaker for ath might be at the point of questioning his purpose and lastly the only hero who seems to know exactly what to do ay she will be a central figure moving forward and is trying her very best to hunt down zotth while betling with the void's influence herself all this opens up four new zones waiting to be explored the aisle of Dorne the new hop for the alliance at horde and home to the earthin the ringing deeps a massive C system where Earth and maintain Titan Machinery hell fall a lush and intriguing underground area with a giant glowing crystal and lastly azah hat the Pinnacle domain of the nerubian society and keep in mind we're just talking about the beginning here story-wise the wall within is supposed to set the stage to then throw us into midnight and then it's supposed to throw us into the last Titan and all of that should result in this huge unraveling of his story Masterpiece that's been in the making for 20 years at least that's what we hope and that's what we are being promised so fingers cross that this actually comes true this is the part where we talk about the deciding factors whether returning for this expansion sounds appealing or more like a waste of your time because let's be real here for a very long time now we've not been playing World of Warcraft but we've been playing the expansion does this make sense like do you guys follow me here we've not been playing World of Warcraft strictly speaking but we've been playing shadowlands we've been playing battle for aoth it it's always been the expansion we've not been playing the core game which means expansions don't really add something to or they add something to the game but they don't expand the core experience and the same thing is going on with classic right now where you're also now just playing expansions and you're not really playing the core anymore season of Discovery is where I believe things actually get interesting but that's something for another video so back to topic expansion features are usually the core factors for loads of players to decide if it's worth coming back or not for the most part I believe this to be the case because it's been past features or changes that made them quit in the first place if the upcoming updates sound good it might be time to jump back in and by the way in case already up to speed with one of the features or other contents of this particular video chapas will be active on all videos moving forward so feel free to go ahead and skip to the portions that interest you the most delves are one of the major features coming with the world within they offer players a convenient and fresh type of endgame content we are talking about short 10 to 15 minute long instances designed for one to five players no R restrictions meaning you can enjoy them regardless of your class composition let's have a look at what you can expect from delves although instanced delves are integrated into the world without actual loading screens making them feel more like a natural part of the environment they offer different experiences including combat puzzles and platforming challenges objectives change on a regular basis to keep them somewhat engaging and to have a certain level of dynamism in total they will offer 11 difficulty tiers tiers 1 to three are available at launch with higher tiers unlocking in season 1 completing a tier unlocks the next for your entire warband higher difficulty tiers will introduce new modifiers for added challenge but also better Rewards they are mainly tailored towards casual players hence the short time commitment the variable difficulty and easy access and all of that while still offering meaningful progression for your characters one thing that will also be part of your Del experience a trusted NPC companion for season 1 this is going to be the legendary brand bronzebeard who will do his very best to assist you on your journey you can change his role between DPS and healer and level him up to unlock new customizable abilities at the end of every Del treasure awaits in the form of gear gold crafting materials and unique trans marks resonant crystals are introduced as a new currency to purchase further rewards one major point of interest will be the delvis dirigible a fully customizable flying Mount also worth mentioning at this point the PVP Row in the great Vault will be removed and replaced by a world tap and yes you guessed it correct completing delves will count towards your world tap progression so just for a quick summary delves are kind of supposed to be an improvement of Concepts like Tor guest and Island Expeditions blizzard seems to have learned from previous mistakes or you know they always had these good ideas but the execution didn't seem to resonate pretty much perfectly with the player base and yeah dels are supposed to streamline this process and actually turn it into what it was supposed to be and offer this sort of quicker and engaging means of endgame progression towards all players the main goal of warbands is to enhance account-wide progression and make managing multiple characters more seamless and integrated first let's have a look at unified character progression warbands allow all characters on a player's battle net account regardless of their faction realm or license to share progress and items this means that achievements reputation and things like firsttime Quest rewards are now all shared the warband bank offers a new storage system that allows you to exchange items more easily it includes five taps with 98 slots each where you can store non-s soulbound gear items and currency this makes transferring items much more straight forward as you won't have to mail anything anymore but just keep the things in the bank I hate to be the person that has to value this but I and I actually need to look this up to unlock all tabs you will have to spend 3126 million gold that's a lot of money and that setup will provide you with a total of 490 inventory slots that's averaging around 6,380 gold per item slot I would say better start farming since we are already talking about this there is going to be a new gear type warbound until equipped those items will be less powerful than your main drops but pretty good for catching up to speed with your old characters in addition all of your achievements will now contribute to a total warband achievement score removing the need to complete achievements on multiple characters this includes converting approximately 2,000 existing achievements to be warband wide however this does not include rare character specific titles to give an example your Gladiator titles will stay restricted to the character they were earned on Renown levels and reputation progress from Dragon flight and the new factions coming in the world within will be shared this means achieving higher reputation with the faction on one character benefits all the others as well and this is also where the first time Quest rewards come into play as we're mostly looking at a reputation boost upon first completion while in subsequent completions you will receive something else as a bonus a very simple system in play is to not make having loads of alss overpower players who focus on just one character despite hopes for this currencies are not pulled together or shared across your warband instead you get a new interface for sharing this includes gold and some other currencies at least you won't have to mail anymore there's also a little extra catch for currencies that were intended to be earned on a specific character you will have to pay what I would call like a conversion fee so you don't get a 1ex one exchange which is interesting because the system is supposed to sort of loosen restrictions and it comes with its very own restrictions on top and lastly collecting gear unlocks app paran's account white even if the character cannot equip the item however class restrictions still apply ensuring only appropriate classes can use those appearances and class specific items cannot be unlocked by other classes when rolling for transmog on a Loot drop Players whose class can actually wear the item will have priority so a priest will always beat a Warrior when rolling transmog on a cloth item in summary warbands fundamentally change how players progress and sort of manage their characters overall providing a more efficient and cohesive experience for that which means this system will definitely accommodate players who are looking forward to play multiple characters all at once progress them not strictly speaking at the same time but just having that share progress and not feel too punished for trying to main multiple characters and that has been a community demand for quite sometimes so good stuff hero talents are yet another expansion to class customization moving forward you will have to pick a class decide on a specialization choose your talents for that specialization and once you hit level 70 choose which hero path to follow many hero talents are inspired from other characters in The Warcraft universe and provide means to explore deeper class fantasy all 10 hero points to unlock your character's full potential will be earned from level 70 all the way up to level 80 we are looking at a total of 39 hero talent trees meaning that there's one for every specialization in the game and each hero tree can be used by two specializations to avoid any confusion here let's quickly jump into the beta for a second and just have a look at an in-game example all right so here we are over on the beta on my warrior as you can see on the left side we still have the normal class specific Tree in this case the warrior Tree on the right side we have the tree for the specialization in this case arms and now the new stuff is in the middle here you can choose your hero Talent as I already mentioned with every spec you will have access to two different hero talent trees in the case of an arms Warrior you can choose between cosses or Slayer and then you can see the talent row here in total you will get those 10 points and then you can just allocate them and you unlock everything there's no Talent or anything like that where you won't have enough points you will be able on every class to unlock the entire tree that you are opting into the only specialty here sort of is that you have three Choice notes so here to give one example I can make the decision either between bone shaker or EarthQuaker here I could use veteran Vitality or no stranger to pain or over here I have one against many or arterial bleed but again the most important two abilities or things that sort of tie together the whole story behind such a hero talentry will be the first one you unlock at level 70 and then the last one you unlock at level 80 because that will sort of start your journey as a hero and then at level 80 you sort of get the whole package and really nail home The Narrative of your hero talent tree all in all very straightforward and not too complicated but I also hope you kind of get what I mentioned with you first have to choose a class so Warrior then you have to choose your specialization arms and then you also have to choose your hero talent tree so could seem a bit convoluted at first but I'm quite sure you'll get the hang of that rather quickly this one is easy so let's just make it very quick the Earth and join the game as the newest Allied race they play a central role in the world within and are actually interesting we are talking about a Titan forged race that is imbued with the essence of azo's world Soul sounds like pretty story relevant people to me and whatever azoth is feeding them it seems to be powerful enough to even grow Earth and females beards and for some reason it actually looks pretty good you will be able to unlock them after the level up campaign simply by going through their quest line if you enjoy Dragon riding or maybe never even got to experience it with the war within it will be converted to Sky riding hundreds of Mounds have been converted to this Dynamic flight system that will even be active on Old continents don't worry you can still toggle to the traditional flying system but if you want it in the new expansion zones you have to finish the Pathfinder Achievement First honestly I'm not entirely sure why sky riding is active from the beginning and traditional flight is disabled but I would assume considering that blizzard has put some talents into place for skywriting that they just want this new feature to be what players use First and it's probably the intended way to experience the new zones so that's why you have the Pathfinder achievement and we'll unlock it later there will be a total of eight new dungeons for us to explore four of them already accessible during our leveling experience and another four unlocking at max level now obviously we're not talking about a new feature here every expansion comes with a set of new dungeons however with the recent changes to Mythic plus dungeons might just turn into a way more attractive option for game progression to a wider audience blizzard has released some major updates on Mythic Keystone progression which might just be exactly what you're looking for so let's break them down really quick the aix's bursting sanguin bolstering and raging all have been removed from the game instead starting at keys with a difficulty of plus two gala's bargain becomes active you can understand this as sort of an umbrella term that will encapsulate all affixes that may appear in your dungeon currently we have ascendant and void bound at Keystone level four either tyrannical or fortified becomes active changing on a weekly rotation so if this week's would be tyrannical next week you would be looking at fortified quite straight forward at level seven challenges Peril becomes active and dying becomes quite expensive that's a big minus 15 on your timer for every person that dies once you hit Level 10 both tyrannical and fortified will be active at the same time at level 12 bargain affixes are removed and instead zalot have's guile will be active a flat 20% increase to enemy health and damage look I'm very sorry for my lack of knowledge on this topic but I'm a returning player and I've never been really that much into Mythic plus but to an amateur like me these changes actually sound good and interesting like I feel like I want to get into Mythic plus it seems all the way up to the plus 12s that this is a sort of neat progression that you have and neat increase in difficulty and Challenge and yeah if that provides a good challenge and is fun to play you can definitely count me in for that this one unlocks with season 1 on September 10th it takes place in aahat and perfectly ties into the story as we will be fighting against Queen aneg who is allied with the expansion's antagonist zotth this means we're looking at an epic story battle and hopefully something that kicks everything off into a very interesting narrative Direction now let's try and take a quick moment to sort of summarize all the stuff we've kind of talked about like for example the story I think that's always a subjective thing of course there's objective criteria that you can sort of look at and say oh yeah this is a good story this is Well written for XYZ reason but when it comes to World of Warcraft story I feel like that's up to you either you like it or you don't delves provides a new form of endgame content so that's probably interesting for everybody you can solo it you can do it in a group loads of ways to play it seems to have a level of dynamism and the feedback has been good so far so that should probably be on the list of positives like this is a pro point for getting the expansion and trying it out War bands nice system but I think this shouldn't matter for such a decision because I don't know is the reason you stop playing World of Warcraft because blizzard hasn't shown enough love to your old characters I can't really imagine that hero talents I think that's a great idea but there's just one constraint that I see what if you're in the scenario that your favorite class or your main character main class you play there's just no hero talent tree where you say oh I like this maybe you are at the point where you would even say okay I don't like any of the trees OB obiously with 39 trees to choose from you will find one class and one specialization that you will enjoy playing I just sort of wanted to mention the risk potential of hero talents because while it Dives deeper into class fantasy it also sort of logs people into place in to some capacity at least Earth and Allied race and dynamic flight I think those things are also like nice to have features but those wouldn't be things where you say oh I haven't played World of Warcraft for 10 years now there's Dynamic flight so I need to come back so that I can use it in AA that's probably not the reason you will return to the game if you ever stop playing so nice to have things convenient features but nothing gamechanging and lastly I think this is kind of important even though it's not strictly speaking a feature of the wall within having the updates to Mythic plus I think another good way to put this is convenience maybe even asking yourself the question okay what has blizzard done to make me return or make it as interesting as possible and I think two major things we've addressed quite in depth here are obviously for that and warbands on the one side you have a super convenient new form of endgame progression with great rewards and on the other side the infrastructure to share progress much easier across your entire account so that having multiple characters can be enjoyable even for someone who doesn't have loads of time at their disposal we also have a couple of really good interface upgrades incoming and yeah let's not forget about the Mythic plus adjustments we just talked about it seems like we're headed towards a direction where there's loads of content diversity for all kinds of players and that almost everybody can have their fun time with the game whether they want want to go all out all day every day or maybe just tune in on a free Sunday this is where things are getting interesting once more compared to previous expansions it doesn't seem like that much is actually incoming loads of cleaning up quality of life updates interesting ideas here and there but nothing that screams oh my God artifact weapon or this will change wow forever look at this look at that and I think that's good for a long time I hop that retail W would be sort of soft reset and start fresh My Hope for that was extremely high when BFA was announced to sort of calm players down after Legion but yeah that didn't happen and I believe the wall within might just be that or a really hope it will be the world Soul Saga moves us into an era of grand conclusion to the story arc and right now we're at its very beginning there's nothing insane that needs to happen right now so give us a good story and regular updates and we might be looking at a bright future for retail here now how do we answer this question I think in order for that to happen you kind of need to ask yourself a couple of questions mainly two have you been thinking about returning to World of Warcraft and do you really know what it would take what sort of changes need to happen for you to say yes I will take another Peak at this game and then just think about this video does anything in here really resonate with you and kind of makes you say and makes you oh I want to play World of Warcraft or maybe it just does the complete opposite and you're leaning back in your chair and you're like oh my God I don't care about any of this I don't want to play World of Warcraft the choice is up to you I think it is important to figure out which group of people benefits the most from what the war within is offering and I would absolutely vote for people who are looking for more convenient ways to play and opportunities to progress their characters without intense grinds if you're anything like me and not looking for the big fancy new expansion but have been waiting for a bit of backtracking and improving on the core formula you will definitely be interested in this and keep in mind we've only focused on the W within in this video obviously World of Warcraft is offering an immense amount of variety right now you don't have to play retail there's different versions of of classic their season of Discovery Time limited events and hopefully more of remix coming soon but moving forward retail seems to offer more diversity to both ends of the player Spectrum than it did ever before so as I said I'm obviously a bit biased here because the wall within was already enough to sort of capture my attention and even make me commit to content creation so I don't really know what that means and honestly I would love to tell you just oh yeah go check out the wall within it will probably be a great experience but I feel like I can simply because of how expensive that experiment would be first you would have to purchase the wall within and then you would have to get a month of gain time that's roughly $63 just for testing whether you might actually like it so if you're not fully convinced I don't want to be the person that sort of convinces you to do that right so I hope that's kind of clear I know of course you would probably get the refund if you just you know purchase it and say hey I don't like it you would contact the support and they like yeah cool you don't like it here's your money bag but not the optimal scenario despite that I really hope that this video helps you to make a more informed decision or helped you with anything else that was sort of unclear about the W within in case you have any more questions always feel free to ask in the comment section it would also be awesome to get some of your thoughts about this in the comment section thank you so much for watching I hope you're having a great day and I will see you in the next video goodbye
