man with these images hi everyone Sam are here I'm an artist a music producer in Los Angeles California today I will talk to you about the fabfilter pro-q 3 EQ plugin despite one of the best third-party plugins out there and I want to just go through all the features and all the basics of this plug-in so let's go ahead and look at this instance I have open right now basic EQ plug-in screen if I go ahead and double click right here it'll go ahead and create a bell curve band I can also go across this yellow line right here in this little top pops up and if I drag this click and drag up or down then it creates a bell filter I can also change the type of filter that I want by going into this little menu right here changing it to a low shelf low-cut or any of these other ones hi shelf example to change the queue if I just click command click and drag my mouse then that changes the queue values and all of these adjustments I can also make right here so if I want to change the frequency then I just click and drag my mouse up and down for this frequency knob change the cue click and drag my mouse up and down and also the gain same thing if I right click on the start I can disable it invert it make it dynamic change the shape the slope to the state replacement I can split it into left and right and I can delete it so the slope right here the steepness of the slope right here you I generally just leave it at 12 DB per octave and you can also change it right here as well and if you hover over certain things as you can see this little help bubble opens up and so if you are ever wondering what these things do if you just hover over these knobs then this little bubble will pop up so what I can do is I can make a bell built say right here man with these images if I hit this little headphone button and hold it down I can let's just listen to these frequencies if I click this headphone button and drag my mouse up and down then the volume of the frequencies that I'm listening to will decrease or increase so let's take a listen to how that works as you can see my mouse as it went up the frequencies would get louder and as it went down the frequencies would get softer and that's just or listening purposes so you can hear those frequencies that you're soloing this little button if i just want to turn this off the slip on and off i can just hit this button man with these images look at me if I split it man with these images and it's the way that you look at me it makes me feel like I can't breathe now all of a sudden the vocal sounds stereo because I'm boosting just in the left signal these highs right here and then some mid-range on the right side only I wouldn't necessarily do that to a vocal but that might be useful for synth tracks or some pads if you want to get some width and some depth just to change the stereo field a little bit another way that you can change the stereo field is using mid/side processing so I opened up a pro q3 on a pad say we want to make sure that all the bass frequencies are mono we can add a low-cut filter only to the side information [Music] you right below 400 Hertz I have everything in mono now because I'm cutting everything out of the sides so if I ever want to undo anything I redo anything then I can just go up up here and hit these arrows right here and this a and B if I want to try one way of processing it and then maybe go to B and try another way of processing it then I can a and B between the two like that so that's a pretty cool feature let's go over some features of the spectrum analyzer if I hover my mouse over the spectrum analyzer what will happen is it will point out some of the frequencies that are pretty prominent in the sound [Music] and so all I did was I just hovered my mouse over that spectrum analyzer and now I can see that there's a point right here that I could bring down a little bit at 390 Hertz so if I just click on this dot and drag it down then it will automatically create a filter right there [Music] if I want to make more precise adjustments I can go down to the bottom right here and if I just click and drag my mouse up and down then I can zoom in or zoom out and I can make more precise adjustments so let me zoom back out let's say I want to make a dynamic band what I can do is I can create a band right here and then go to this outside band of this knob right here and I drag it up or down so if I drag it down any time that the frequency it's a certain threshold that'll be pulled down even further this right here is set on auto so it is automatically setting a threshold but you can click on it and that opens up a menu for you to change the threshold manually [Music] so here you can see it functioning as a dynamic EQ I could also just set the band gain at zero so I double-clicked type in zero and now I'm not adjusting the sound at all unless it goes past that threshold that I set and it could also do the inverse so I can raise it up and then any time that the frequency rises above that threshold then the volume increases so it acts as an expander [Music] you so another thing that I can do that's really cool with a dynamic EQ is I can have the band side chained with another source so I could take a vocal as the side chain and then route that to a pad so that the pad is ducking to allow room for the vocal and how do as I go down to the plug-in right here right here it says sidechain so I go to no input and I'm going to go to lead vocals and I'm going to create a filter and then I'm going to go down to this knob menu right here make it dynamic [Music] sigh shade button so I'm gonna click this and then that's going to take the side chain and that's gonna trigger this dynamic filter right here let's play that with the vocal you've got me saying what's in my head filling my mind with these images makes me feel like I can't let's hear it without the sidechain you've got me saying what's in my head filling my mind with these images and it's the way that you look at me makes me fit of course I'm exaggerating the side chain right here it's really useful if you want to make room for instruments like I did with this pad in the vocal if I go down to this analyzer menu right here it's showing the pre and the post processing you've got me saying so you could see two different spectrums whenever I made that adjustment it also shows all the other instances of the pro q3 on the other tracks so if I have it on C I have it on the kick I have it on the lead vocals I have on the strings this one right now is on the pad and if I play the track it'll show me some areas where there might be some collision between frequencies you've got me saying and that's what we're seeing with these little red areas that's showing some frequencies where there's a lot of collision so there's a lot of frequencies building up so where does I clicked on this lead vocals and now it's going to show me the frequencies in this area right here along with the patch frequencies you've got me saying words in my head filling my mind with these images look at me makes me feel like I can breathe so I made a pretty drastic reduction in the gain right there and the pad you've got me saying words in my head and I can also go to the vocals and do the same thing let's go through this menu a little bit more I'm gonna click this external up spectrum off to turn this view off you've got me saying what's in my head if I turn this off this will turn off that ability to find those frequency peaks in the spectrum analyzer if I turn this red off it'll turn off those collision frequencies and if I hit this it'll freeze the spectrum analyzer so this analyzer menu also has an EQ match and I can set the input of this EQ match to be the sidechain or another track that has a fabfilter pro-q 3 plug-in on it Vytas side-chain then I would go to EQ match hit external side chain and then play the track and it will automatically analyze the input and so if I have another bass I like that EQ then it'll provide me suggestions of where I can make EQ edits on my current bass in the track if I click on this little piano thing it opens up a piano grid and now it's showing me these points in terms of notes instead of frequencies it's gonna be helpful if you're trying to tune a kick you can find out the key of the song and then maybe boost some frequencies in the key of the song on the kick right here we have MIDI learn this is if you want to assign some MIDI knobs to any of the editing in this pro q3 we have zero latency natural phase linear phase I should just leave it on zero latency as you can see when I hover over this button it shows it up on the help bubble over here this is just a bypass the plug in bypass it on and off then right here this is the upper level of the plugin here is the size of the plugin so custom size medium large also up here is a full-screen and right here adjust the vertical size of the grid adjustment right here but 12db range is very large this range if I go to this 60b then this is going to appear out of the screen so you can adjust this whether you want to make micro edits or large edits to the frequencies so there you have some of the functions of that filters Pro q3 if you have a chance to grab this plug-in I would highly recommend it and so if you like this video please like and subscribe thank you so much [Music]
