Anatomical Terms - Medical Terminology

hey everyone in this medical terminology lesson I'm going to talk to you guys specifically about anatomical terms so this is actually a continuation of my medical terminology the basics lesson series so if you haven't watched that I would suggest you watch that first before you watch this one so in this lesson there's gonna be a lot of prefixes and suffixes about anatomy so there's gonna be a lot of terms so I would suggest taking notes as I go through this lesson so the beginning I'm going to try to go from head to toe and go through the anatomy in that progression so to begin a head and neck Anatomy the first word is settle over which means head the next one facial which means face cranial skull so you can think of a craniotomy a kind of an incision into this skull the next one is Trico which means hair now this one you might not hear much about but you could have heard of the obsessive condition known as tri-coat ella mania or the obsessive need to pull out hair the next one is stoma or oral they both denote the mouth so you might have heard of stomatitis information of the mouth the next one is glosso or lingo lingual which denote the tongue so you might have heard of glossitis which it would be an information of the tongue the next one is labial or kilo which denotes the lips so these ones you might not have heard of too often kilo kilo psious is a condition that causes a redness on the lips that is typically involved in a vitamin b2 deficiency the next one is dent or a donto which denotes the teeth so that's easy to remember you know dentist dentistry odontogenic all denoting something involving the teeth the next one is gingival it's hard to say which means gums so you guys know gingivitis or an inflammation of the gums the next one is rhino or nazo which denotes the nose so rhinitis information of the nose when you get a cold of viral rhinitis so they all just denote a condition involving the nose the next one is buccal so cheek so if you take a pupil swab if you take a swab and check in collects some cell sample from the inside of the chika buccal sample people just means cheek so the next one is genial ormento which means chin so you might not have heard of this one too much jeanny oh or mental mental you might have heard of mental foramen that that's just a hole in your mandible that actually are near your chin that actually your some of your arteries and nerves actually come out of that foramen and genial Colossus just a muscle near the chin so just genial and mental just denote the chin the next one is mandibular which means mandible that's very easy to remember mandible it's just your lower jaw and then the maxilla maxilla your upper teeth the phone that supports your upper teeth so the next group of head and neck Anatomy terms the first one is siyul adeno which just stands for salivary gland Saladino adeno iith remembers adeno actually de stands for gland typically I'm so style for Seoul salivary so Saladino anything with a dino typically involves go hand tracheal which for for trachea and that's easy to remember tracheitis and information of the trachea Lorenzo layering so you might have a you might have had a laryngoscope just a scope down your Larenz the next one is for enjo or for throat so you might have a pharyngitis sore throat the next one is firo which just stands for thyroid gland so the next one is epic lot which just stands for epiglottis the epiglottis is just the the flap that covers your your your windpipe when you swallow and you might have heard of something called epiglottitis which is common more common in children the next one is Auto just stands for ear now you might have heard of a tightest information of the ear our tightest media information of the middle ear the next one is Marin Jo or tempeh know both just denote the eardrum or tympanic membrane the next one is Kok Leo just representing the cochlea the kind of the snail-shaped pro portion of your inner ear I'm involved in sound reception the next one is mastoid au which just stands for the mastoid process the mastoid process is just a bone behind your ear now sometimes you might have heard of something called mastoid itis information of the mastoid process and that can be a sign of ear infection as well so the next group of an adding that I want to look at is the eye there's a lot of different anatomical terms related to the eye so I separated that out away from the head and neck Anatomy so the first one is just the medical terminology for the eye itself so opto optho ocular they all stand for the eye so you might have heard of an optometrist an ophthalmologist you might have heard of the oculomotor nerve they all stand for or the denote the eye or something related to the eye the next one is pupil au which just stands for the pupil which is easy to remember the next one is the Faro or helper bro those are hard to say that just stands for the eyelid so you might have heard of a muscle levad or palpebrae superioris it's a muscle involved in lifting the upper eyelid so the next one is conjunct Evo which just stands for the conjunctiva or the the lining of your the inner lining of your eyelids and usually they call this the first line of defense for any microorganisms that might come into your eye and you might get a reaction during certain illnesses that could cause conjunctivitis the information of this line so the next one is off free oh um that just stands for the eyebrow and you rarely hear this term the next one is a retinal which just stands for the retina of the eye now you might have heard of retinal detachment or retinitis something related to the retina that's all that just stands for very easy to remember so the next one is Kirito which just stands for the cornea so now you might have heard of something called exposure keratitis sometimes people have problems with closing their eye you get too much exposure too much light exposure for instance on the cornea and get it exposure keratitis or inflammation of the cornea the next one is burrito which just stands for iris the iris of the eye the colored portion of your eye the colored muscle the next one is high yellow which just stands for vitreous humor of the eye that kind of gelatinous substance within the middle of your eye your eyeball I should say the next one is that Creole adeno and again as I mentioned before adeno always stands for gland back row actually means tear so it's the tear gland or the lacrimal gland and here's a picture of that the lacrimal gland is on the lateral side of your eyes and then lacrimal usually denotes lacrimal or tear duct or where the where your tears actually drain into so the next system I want to talk to you guys about is the digestive system so there's a again there's a lot of anatomical medical terminology in this system so again just take notes for this section so the first one I want to talk to you guys about is sealeo or lap row which knows the abdomen or belly now you might have not maybe don't really recognize this but just think of celiac disease or a laparoscopic surgery so those are just denoting something involving the abdomen or belly the next one is gastro which denotes the stomach now I've talked about some of these terms in the medical terminology basics lesson but I'm just gonna go over them again just for completion so gastro meaning stomach so gastritis an inflammation of the stomach pile or a pyloric sphincter is just where the the Kyle from the stomach actually goes first from the stomach into the duodenum that's the bhaiyya the pyloric sphincter of the pilot roll the next term is the college cyst which just stands for the gallbladder and so you can think of kali cystitis the information of the gallbladder the next one is Kali da Chow which just stands for the common bile duct the next one is Kali or call you in or Billy which denote bile so you can think of Billy Bruton the next one is call angio or call which stands for bile duct itself and this could be you could might have heard of : GI this information of bile duct intro denoting the intestine so enteritis or gastroenteritis sometimes they combine those two terms the next one is pancreatic for pancreas so pancreatitis again inflammation of the pancreas so then the next group of words will start more into the small intestine so the first one is the duodenum which just stands for the duodenum so I'm this is just the first section of the small intestine so you might have heard Ava at the Wadden ectomy maybe there's a surgical removal of part of the duodenum the next one is jejunum did you just standing for the jejunum second section of small intestine so again you could have a Zhijun Judoon ectomy again surgical removal of a part of the jejunum the next one is ilio which stands for the ileum which is the third section of the small intestine so you might have heard of the ileocecal valve or the end of the where the end of the ileum meets up with the beginning of the cecum that's the ileocecal valve always standing again for ileum the next one is a pendo or a pentacle which just stands for the appendix so that's again easy appendicitis it's an easy way to remember that one and the appendix is just the worm-like or vermiform structure that dangles off of the cecum or the first part of the ascending colon the next one is Seco or tae flow which just denotes the cecum so again as I mentioned before ileocecal valve that's just denoting a valve involving the ileum and the cecum the next one is collar or colano which just denotes the large intestine or colon and so this is easy colitis inflammation of the large intestine I'm calling ah Skippy a visual inspection by a scope into the colon the next one is sigmoid o standing for the sigmoid colon so you could have heard of a sigmoidoscopy there is a type of scope that just looks at the sigmoid colon and the last part of the digestive system is the anal or practice standing for anus or rectum so you could have heard of a proctologist a specialist in the area of this part of the digestive system anyways guys that was the the first lesson on anatomical terms for medic terminology I hope you found it helpful please like and subscribe for more videos like this one anyways guys thank you so much for watching and have a great day
