Rubik's Cube Beginner Solving Method
Introduction
Objective
: Teach a beginner-friendly method to solve a Rubik's Cube.
Resources
: For additional examples, refer to the example solve link in the description.
Solving the White Cross
Find the white centerpiece and hold it on top.
Solve the white cross
ensuring the side colors line up:
Identify white edge pieces
(located on the bottom layer).
Align white edge pieces with the correct center piece below and rotate 180° to move them to the top.
Tricky Situations
:
If pieces are swapped – temporarily move to the side, adjust and reposition.
If an edge piece is stuck in the middle layer – move it down to the bottom and solve as usual.
Confirm colors lining up
on the sides with the centers.
Turn the cube upside down
(white cross on bottom).
Important 4-Move Sequences
Learn a sequence of 4 moves that will aid in solving the cube:
Right side up.
Top layer rotate right (use right hand).
Right side down.
Top layer rotate left (use left hand).
Repeat
the sequence until it becomes familiar.
Learn the left-hand version (mirroring the right-hand process).
Solving the White Corners
Identify a corner
with white on the top layer.
Placement
: Match the corner's other colors with corresponding centers.
For example, a piece with white, green, and orange goes between the white, green, and orange centers.
Inserting Corner
:
Use the right-hand 4-move sequence if the corner is on the right.
Use the left-hand 4-move sequence if the corner is on the left.
Removing Incorrectly Placed Corners
: Use the same 4-move sequence (right or left) to remove them.
Ensure all white corners are correct
as well as the edge colors.
Solving the Second Layer
Identify edge pieces
on the top layer without yellow.
For example, blue and orange.
Alignment
: Match the edge piece with the center color of the front face.
Placement
:
To right side: Move edge away to the left, then use right-hand moves to insert and left-hand moves to reinsert.
To left side: Move edge away to the right, then use left-hand moves to insert and right-hand moves to reinsert.
Handling Incorrectly Placed Edges
: Insert a random piece to displace and then place the correct one.
Solving the Top Cross (Yellow)
Look at top edge pieces
:
No edges: Do a sequence to convert to edges.
L-shape: Ensure it’s top-left and do the sequence.
Horizontal line: Do the sequence.
Sequence: Rotate front, right-hand 4-move, undo front.
Align Yellow Cross Edges
with centers:
Align as many as possible (2 or 4 edges).
If only 2 align, hold solved edges at back and right and perform the algorithm.
Algorithm: Right side up, rotate pair to left, right side down, finish sequence until edges align.
Positioning Top Corners
Identify correct corner spots
:
If corners are already in correct position, proceed.
If only one corner is correct, hold it front-right and perform the algorithm.
Algorithm: Right-hand and left-hand move sequence repeated.
Solving Yellow Corners
Turn the cube upside down
.
Solve each bottom corner
:
Use 4-move sequence until correctly oriented.
Move to the next corner by rotating bottom layer.
Finish all corners ensuring no rotation of the whole cube.
