our next story comes from India where the northe Eastern State of Assam has been hit by severe floods more than 1.6 million people have been affected and at least 46 people have died the state is on high alert 11 Rivers including the mighty brahmaputra flowing above the danger Mark Assam is one of the most flood prone states in India its fragile ecosystem is crumbling due to the Deluge this includes a world herited side the kazianga National Park which is home to more than 2,000 Majestic one horn rhinos here's our report rivers in Spate entire Villages inundated homes submerged fisherman marooned this is the flood hit Indian state of Assam it witnessed the first wave of floods in the month of May after some respite the second wave of floods began on June 16th this time the floods are much stronger than the first wave leaving a trail of Destruction [Music] more than 1.6 million people have been affected yesterday eight people were killed the highest since the floods began this has taken the death toll to 46 additionally hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced nearly 26,000 people have been shifted to relief camps Assam is on high alert it's fragile ecosystem is under threat including the renowned kazianga National Park this is a UNESCO world heritage site home to nearly 2,200 Majestic one horn rhinoceros this constitutes 2/3 of their world population as much of kazianga is underwater the rhinos have been severely affected but that's not all the National Park Ark is home to about 40 species of animals more than a million animals have been affected by the floods and at least 17 of them have died as the flood waters rise those who can are now hight tailing it to the Hills this migration is a testament to the resilience of these animals officials have also been able to rescue at least 72 animals the chief minister of Assam himanta biswasa has been tour in the flood hit areas the chief minister says his government has enough funds to cope with the situation he has attributed the devastation to geographical factors beyond the control of the state while that may be true Assam is hit by several runs of floods every year the same pattern is repeated annually there is heavy rainfall Rivers overflow critical embankments fail lowlands and River Marine areas bear the brunt millions are affected both humans and animals and many Die the same story plays out repeatedly and as Sam's infrastructure fails its people year after year the next few days will be critical for the state as the rains continue the administration expects the situation to deteriorate on the ground and while the focus now is to limit the damage and loss of lives in the long run Assam needs a much more proactive response against the floods sink or swim the choice is theirs across continents one powerful new [Music] source bringing you diverse perspectives on the issues that matter [Music] we go beyond the boundaries to give you that little extra about every sporting moment so thank you for making first post 5 million strong we're counting on your support and you can trust us to bring you the news unfiltered and un banished [Music] on this today the T20 World Cup bang has move across to the West IND e can you expect hello I'm Al coming to you from South Africa today we have a special start with a report on India shifting nuclear for the first time since India off a hello and welcome to First po America I'm Eric ham coming to you live from the nation's capital in Washington DC [Music]
