come with me on a journey to the world of phrasal verbs with come come with me I'm going to show you the 12 phrasal verbs with come that you need to know for your B2 first exam hi and welcome to anymore let's get started with our 12 phrasal verbs with come come across is a phrasal verb that can have multiple meanings for example it can mean to seem as in the sentence when I met her for the first time she came across as shy or a second meaning is to become clear as in the sentence the character's emotions definitely come across in this film with an object come across is inseparable and it means to discover something by chance or without planning to as in the sentence when I was on holiday I came across this beautiful little cafe Cal is not used with an object and it can also have two different meanings first of all come along can mean to arrive appear or start to exist as in the sentence when my first child came along my life changed a lot the second possible meaning is to go somewhere with someone as in we're all going out tonight you should come along remember that come along doesn't take an object come down once again is a phrasal verb without any object and two different meanings the first meaning is to break and fall down as in the sentence the whole roof of the building came down because of the fire secondly come down can also mean to become lower as in the sentence the president's approval ratings came down after the latest Scandal come down with on the other hand is always followed by an object and it means to get an illness for example we can use it like this after falling into the frozen lake he came down with severe bronchitis also come down down with cannot be separated by the object so the object always follows the phrasal verb C off means to happen successfully and is not used with an object so we always use it by itself for example we can use it in a sentence like the magician tricks came off perfectly leaving the audience in awe another example would be the charity fundraiser came off without a problem raising a significant amount of money for the cause come on is also used without an object and can have two different meanings its first meaning is to start to happen or to start to work as in the sentence the TV came on immediately after the repair the second possible meaning is to make progress as in the example sentence my project at work is coming on really well we've already reached the first Milestone and just like that we are already halfway done if you feel that you are taking away some useful versatile and can have a variety of meanings so let's have a look at the most important ones firstly come out means to become available to become known or to appear as in the new album came out and immediately went to the top of the charts or even though it was mostly cloudy all day the sun came out a couple of times and warmed us up secondly it can mean to go somewhere with someone for a social event as in the sentence do you want to come out with us tonight we're going to have something to eat thirdly we can use come out to talk about the result of something for example we can say how did the cake come out did your family enjoy it come out can also mean to be removed especially when we talk about things like dirt or stains as in the sentence red wine stains don't come out easily the next meaning is about how something is said as in I wanted to apologize but what I said came out all wrong and he got even angrier last but not least come out is used in the specific context of someone who is not heterosexual telling other people about their orientation for the first time as in she came out as bisexual to her parents when she was 16 years old come round also doesn't take any object um but it can also have a variety of meanings the first meaning is to visit someone at their house as in the sentence you should come around for dinner it's my birthday today come around can also mean to change your opinion or to agree with someone after you had a different opinion as in I know she's upset right now after what you've done but I'm sure she'll come round thirdly we can use come around to talk about a repeated event that is happening or is going to happen soon for example I can't believe Christmas has come round already lastly come around can mean to become conscious again as in the sentence he came round after a few seconds after fainting so suddenly come to has the same meaning as come round earlier in the sense that means to become conscious again especially after surgery or an accident as in the sentence doctor has he come to yet come up means that something appears for example a topic or problem one sentence could be the company's Financial issues came up during the meeting or the information came up on the screen as soon as he hit search it can also mean to move upwards or to rise as in the sun will come up at 6:30 a.m. tomorrow come up against does use an object but it cannot be separated by this object and it means to have to face difficulty or resistance as in she came up against a lot of racist bias when she moved from Japan to Europe or despite their best effort they came up against a formidable opponent in the championship game the last phrasal verb on today's list is come up with which means to think of a plan an idea or a solution to a problem it is always followed by an object but once again cannot be separated by it we can use come up with in a sentence like she struggled to come up with a creative idea for her art project
