Peterson Academy Course and Experience Overview

welcome back everyone so it's been one month since I've been enrolled in the Peterson Academy and taking courses so I want to do a quick little overview for you guys today and give you guys kind of my thoughts on the Peterson Academy how it's been working for me what I've learned so far what are the new features what are the new courses and just what is the Peterson Academy and how does it work and um hopefully this will give you guys kind of a better better understanding of what it is and hopefully it'll motivate you guys to go enroll um I've learned a lot so far I've said it in previous review videos that I've learned more from single courses in the Peterson Academy than I did an entire year at the uh University that I was attending when I was 19 so I'm going to go through and I'm going to list every single course that is on the Peterson Academy I'll talk about the ones that I've completed a little bit I'm not going to get into any like deep specifics because I am doing full reviews for each course that I take I've taken five so far when I made my first video on the Peterson Academy I had only taken one course and that was only after three days of uh of the academy being out so now I have a little bit of a better sense of what all the courses feel like so talk a little bit about those and then we'll talk about the quizzes the exams accreditation we got a couple new updates on that some of the new features and then like I said some of the new courses as well that have been added so here are all the courses that are currently on the Peterson Academy it originally launched with 18 since then there's been one more added I believe there's should be a one another one next week um we were promised three new courses every month one came out yesterday it was the Bible God and Humanity with Bishop Baron and then here are the other courses so there's introduction to nutrition by Max l l Lugar I I hope I'm saying that somewhat right but this is the course that I'm taking right now so you guys can expect a review on this one soon I'm learning a lot from it so far there's intro Den n obviously by Dr Jordan Peterson the greatest leaders in history with Lord Andrew Roberts I did a review on that one as well that was an excellent course symbolism and Christianity with with Jonathan pageo that's another one that I've taken Plato the dawn of thought with James or I'm really excited to take that course I think that'll probably be the next one that I take there's also deconstructing decolonization with Nigel bear um postmodern philosophy with Steven Hicks evolutionary inference with uh Dr Brett Weinstein and Heather um make sure I'm saying her name right Hing I hope that's correct I'm going to probably butcher some names today I apologize we have intelligence rationality wisdom and spirituality with John Veri now John Veri recently did a podcast with Jordan Peterson where they talked a little bit about accreditation which I'll talk about in a second but he also mentioned in that podcast that John Veri has done three courses already for the Peterson Academy and likely we'll be doing more so there's only one currently on the academy so there's two more kind of in the banks being edited right now that will come out later and John Veri is one of those professors that I've learned quite a bit from he has a free lecture series on YouTube that I highly recommend I believe it's something like 50 episodes long but they were um they were incredibly influential to me I learned a lot during those lectures so I'm excited to take this one by him there's also the Art of Storytelling by Greg herwitz there is intro intro to psychology with Keith Campbell there is political IDE Oles with Eric Kaufman The Boy crisis with Dr Warren frell I took that one intro to Neuroscience with Dr Balan Jalal the psychology of social status with Dr Rob hen Henderson the economics of human flourishing with um Maran L tupi and Dr Gail l pulie i I hope I'm saying that right um the history of western music with Samuel andreev that's the most recent one that I've taken um the bishop Baron one which I just mentioned and then intro to cosmology with Brian keing there will be a couple more Brian keing courses coming out soon I'm excited for that as well um so those are all the courses that are on the Peterson Academy so far each course kind of varies in its length I believe the longest course that I've seen so far has been nine lectures um somewhere in between 9 and 10 hours long I believe that one was the shortest one I've seen so far was about 5 hours long spread across about six lectures I believe that was the bishop Baron one is only about 5 hours long so they do range a little bit in their length not everyone is six lectures not everyone is eight lectures they they differ a little bit there um there's a quiz for each lecture so each lecture will have a quiz that is dedicated specifically to that lecture there'll be questions that some of them sure you can answer by Googling but some of them you'll actually have to have watched the lecture because they'll ask you like what does Dr blank say about this and if you didn't watch the lecture you'll have no idea how to answer that question so the quizzes are actually very good they're not very they're not like overly generic they're very specific to each lecture which I love they actually like test you on your knowledge and um and I found the quizzes to be excellent so far there're 10 multiple choice questions there's no written portion yet but I assume there should be a written portion for the final exams now we don't have any final exams out yet for any of the courses it's been a month so far for the pre-enrollment students I believe for regular enrollment this University came out on the on the 9th of September I believe but hopefully we get final exams soon I don't want to rack up too many courses and then the final exams come out and then I forget what I learned in the first course that I took you know so hopefully those come out soon I really hope there's like written portions if there's not written portions I'm going to be a little bit bummed out I know that that's a little bit harder to grade because you you either need like a super Advanced AI that doesn't make any mist stakes and even then you probably should have humans checking those corrections but you kind of need humans to be grading written work at least for now I think but hopefully we get that I really want to get some like written feedback on on on my thoughts on what I've learned and stuff like that so hopefully that comes soon but so far like I said no final exams just the quizzes so far all the lectures look beautiful some of them you know vary in in what they bring to the table the Andrew Roberts history lectures they had an interviewer there with him because he's not a classical Professor so he was kind of getting interviewed throughout the whole lecture series the uh the history of Western um music there was a piano on stage which if you're going to have a music course you should probably have a piano on stage and that was awesome so you get to hear little pieces you get to hear the uh Professor pull things apart and play certain certain pieces and it's awesome it it helps you learn I think so all of that's been great all the visuals have been amazing like I stated before I really like that they have these like full visuals that come up behind the professors and it just it's really captivating it's it's much more engaging than just a regular PowerPoint you know it it looks a lot nicer and it's a lot easier to memorize quotes that come up rather than just you know a regular little PowerPoint on a screen with some dots and it's a little bit harder to pick things up that way rather than if it you know kind of explodes on screen with a smoke and there's kind of visuals to go with it I don't know for me it's more engaging I find these lectures to be beautifully edited and for the most part all the professors have been excellent I haven't had a single Professor so far that I thought like didn't know what they were talking about or was talking up their ass and I wasn't really learning anything I learned something from every single course that I've taken so far now there are a couple professors who aren't you know typically professors they're not exactly academics they're you know for the western music that was more of a composer more of an artist for the history lectures you know Andrew Roberts is more of a historian and a writer he's not so much a professor so sometimes there there's there's different levels in um oratory skills I found that the uh the teacher or the professor for the history of western music tend to look down and kind of talk to the ground sometimes and you know you don't you don't necessarily want to be doing that when you're talking to not just a classroom full of students but you know the world because this is going out on on such a large platform with so many students you kind of you want to make sure that everything is coming out directly and you're making eye contact with you know the audience so those are very very slight nitpicks you know I nitpicked Jonathan pageo for not being as fluent as Jordan Peterson Jonathan Paso's first language is French you know these are very very minor critiques I still learned so much from Jonathan Paso's lecture series that like my critiques are very very minimal you should almost ignore them completely because I'm just kind of pointing things out that I found to be slight errors or slight mistakes just to have something to say have something to critique about this Academy because I have so many good things to say um like I said I've learned so much from all of these courses I feel like every single course has been just packed with knowledge packed with information and another thing that I love is every single Professor so far has come out has come off as incredibly genuine and honest and that's really the big thing that I look for when I'm getting lectured to by somebody whether it's I'm watching YouTube lectures or going to a brick and mortar universe and and listening to lectures there or doing it here the the main thing that I look for is whether or not the professor is honest and um that shines through with every single Professor so far so I'm very excited for that I don't think I'm going to come across any Shady professors on this website hopefully not but um yeah so let's talk about some of the features some of the new features that will be added soon and then and then I'll wrap the video up for today I don't want to talk about you know any specifics on the courses because I am like I said doing full reviews for each of the courses so you guys if you guys want my full thoughts and on any of the specific courses you guys can go watch those videos but for the features so there's a home page where you can kind of see you know what what are the new courses that have come out so right now the god the Bible and Humanity with Bishop Baron is kind of their headliner because it just came out yesterday so you can watch trailers for all of the courses which is nice you can see which ones are new which ones are featured which ones are the most popular right now intro to nich is the most popular which you would expect because that's Jordan Peterson's course the second most popular right now I believe is the introduction to nutrition which is awesome to see um like I said there's 19 courses there's the social tab the social um portion of the website is awesome it's getting better um every time they add more updates and there's still more updates to come but everybody on there has been really really smart they articulate themselves well there's a lot of great stuff on the social um side of things everybody seems to be very honest and there's not really any like posting or anything like that there's not anybody like trying to be funny or that it's good I I like it how it is right now it's it's very professional and it's it feels like a a social media space for a university so that's all good and um I've been reading through that quite a bit people are still posting their understand myself scores so that's kind of still a trend on there right now and um yeah I haven't engaged with too many people on the uh social network myself but I've been reading through it quite a bit and it is pretty awesome um they're going to have a mobile app soon they're going to have full notifications DMS and group chats course specific study groups which I'm really excited for social post recommendations and ability to at members and posts so when all those features come out I feel like the social platform is going to run a lot more smoothly especially when there's going to be an app I feel like I'll be on there more trying to engage with people I definitely want to find some people who are local to me I want to find some people who are in the Emon region and and meet up and watch lectures together and have study groups cuz it's fun to you know talk about these courses with other people and exchange ideas it's not necessary to do it you know you can kind of get through the Peterson Academy on your own if you want to and just engage in the comments but I do want to meet some of these people in real life um I think that that would be quite fun obviously you can make your own profile you can give yourself whatever name you want you can pick a profile pick I have a picture of me and my cat right now and uh and yeah you can follow people you can have people following you um like I said eventually you'll be able to add people in posts you can like posts you can comment on posts so it's a really nice social Community there that's kind of building up and I love to see it it's really awesome and then there's a bookmarks tab you can obviously you can put bookmarks in lectures which is really awesome I really like that feature so if there's something specific in a lecture that you find really engaging or you want to come back to you can actually book Mark that portion in the lecture and then you can come back to it later while you're also watching the lectures you can also increase the speed which is awesome I'm glad they put that feature in right away that's something I know Jordan Peterson does with YouTube videos and stuff he tends to put things on higher speed because it's smart like if you want to consume content in less time so you can consume more content you should you know ramp up the speed especially if it's somebody who talks a little bit slower I wouldn't recommend it with Jordan Peterson if you try to watch Jordan Peterson on times 2 speed you're probably going to get lost but for the guy who did um um Samuel andreev who did the uh history of western music I watched that one on 1.25 speed and it felt normal that that felt much nicer because he's a bit of a slower talker so I love that feature um yeah I I don't know what else I want to go over really that's kind of everything right now it's still in its beta version so it's not like the full version I guess yet there's still a couple more features that they want to add and a couple more bugs that they want to work out but for the most part this is the academy so what has my experience been so far well like I said I think from just from intra to NRA the first course that I took I found that I learned more in that course than I did an entire year under a bachelor's degree program at mchan University I didn't feel like I learned a ton at mchan and that's a big reason why I dropped out um these courses I feel like I'm learning a lot more from I feel like the information's more condensed it's more packed together in a good way like it's it's accessible it's it's bite-sized you there's never like there's never too much information coming at you at once where you have to actually slow down the watch speed it's all perfectly done like I really don't have too many critiques about how how they're doing it right now and um just because it's so compact just because they can fit you know 20 lectures worth of material into like 10 or eight um it just makes it so much more time efficient too so I find myself getting hooked a lot of the times with lectures and I'll watch sometimes a whole course in a day I think I did that for the Andrew Roberts series I just just watched the whole thing in one day and um and that's awesome you know to binge lecture series like that like that's kind of rare I'm somebody who's watched I don't know how many different um YouTube lecture series there's tons out there there's tons of free courses on YouTube you can find them from Stanford Harvard Oxford all the top ivy league universities there's courses out there that you can you can find on YouTube for free and some of them are very boring some of them are not engaging they're kind of a slug to get through you got to put it on point five speed and you almost have to distract yourself with something else visually cuz they're very boring some of them are very engaging I found some lecture series that I found on YouTube to be very engaging and then you just rip right through them I found every single course so far on the Peterson Academy has been like the ladder they've been very easy to pick up very easy to just sink your teeth in and get engaged and and and want to you know go on to the next lecture want to hit the next episode button and um yeah I've just been flying through these courses so far I probably could have done more um so far but you know I work a full-time job I'm trying to do YouTube at the same time so I've only done five so far I plan to do five five or six every month I want to get caught up to the point where you know the three new courses that come out each month those are kind of my courses that I do for each month so that'll take me a couple months to get fully caught up but um yeah I've learned so much so far this has been an amazing experience I feel like in the last month alone I just feel like I just feel like my mind's clicking better I feel more articulate I feel better with my words like I don't know it just feels better it feels a lot better to be you know at a university again I've been dreading it for the past couple years ever since I dropped out I've been like damn did I make a mistake there you know going back and forth you know a lot of the stuff Peterson says is true about the uh brick and mortar in institutions and then I was also having my own you know skepticism about it and did I make the right decision to drop out and now I I do feel like I made the best decision to drop out I feel like I'm actually learning something now I feel like I'm getting an education and um and yeah so to talk about the accreditation and that kind of stuff to kind of wrap this video up like I said in the uh John Veri podcast that he recently had um Jordan Peterson and John Veri they were talking about um Jordan Peterson does have a couple institutions that are interested in giving him accreditation for the Peterson website so that's all the information that I have he kind of said it in passing but just knowing that he has some people interested in the accreditation gives me more hope that was one thing from you know when I enrolled into this University a lot of people were asking me you know not just you guys in the comment sections but my friends and my family were asking me you know is this a real degree like what are you going to get out of this cuz you know you're you're paying money to go take this University it's not a ton of money it's relatively cheap it's 40 bucks a month you know about $600 a year for me Canadian but it's about $500 $550 for Americans out there and uh you know my parents were asking me that and I was like like I I I assume it's going to get accredited that's what I've been promised he's going to look for accreditation if he can't get it he's going to go right to employers that's what I've been told and that's all I know and that was enough for me I took Jordan Peterson on his word and I signed up for the University and now it's looking pretty positive it's looking like he's going to get accreditation and maybe in 3 to four years I'll have enough accredited courses to have something that's like a bachelor's degree now will I be able to take that bachelor's degree and go to a university and get a master's degree somewhere else will I be getting a master's degree through the Peterson Academy could I get a PhD through the Peterson Academy or do I have to go somewhere else I don't know all those questions once I can answer them I will answer them for you guys here I will I'll bring you guys the answers to those questions when I find them out but as far as I know right now I don't know as I might have to get my bachelor's degree from here and then go to another University I might not even need a bachelor's degree if this YouTube thing takes off I I don't exactly know but I'll let you guys know when I know um as far as going to employers that's kind of all he said is that he might go directly to employers so I don't know exactly what that means if he's going to get people hired um directly but we'll see we'll see as things go on for me the main thing is I want to learn that's like the biggest thing for me I'm a sucker for knowledge I'm just I'm like Kirby I'm just constantly you know consuming content and taking things in so all all that I really care about is if I'm learning something and I feel like I am so if the degree comes if if a job comes with it that's all kind of a bonus to me I think this is worth the money I think I think the boy crisis course alone was worth the $500 because that course really changed my life it it was it was an important course for me to take and I think every single man should take that course I really think they should make it free eventually if if they make one course free as kind of like a sampler as a tester for the Peterson Academy they should make the boy crisis free to everybody because that's I mean you guys should go read the book too because it's it's based off of a book but yeah everything about this has been fantastic for me so far I really don't have too many complaints um yeah that's kind of all I have to say today guys so if you guys have any questions at all let me know in the comments I'll try to address those directly I just I don't want to spoil anything that's in the actual courses so don't ask me about you know specifics that are taught in any of the courses but if you want to know like what were the recommended books for any of the courses um what were they like who was who was teaching them what are those professors like if you have any questions about the the the platform itself let me know down below and I'll try to answer those questions as always thank you guys so much for watching as always it means the world to me don't forget to like And subscribe share with your friends I'll catch you guys in the next one peace
