How to Install a Wireless Access Point (WAP)

Introduction

Enhances Wi-Fi signal throughout the house
Ideal for homes with poor or no signal in some rooms
Business-class Netgear WAX 630 offers:
- Fantastic coverage
- High speed
- WPA3 security

Use Power Over Ethernet (PoE) connections:
- Easier installation (only one cable needed)
- Provides both power and data
Avoid using power connections as they require power outlets

Placement:
- Install in the center of the house, ideally in the ceiling
- Ceiling installations avoid signal blockage from walls
Initial Setup:
- Example: Replace existing Ruckus R610 WAP using its spot (if applicable)
Network Panel:
- Connect WAP to a PoE switch (e.g., Ruckus ICX switch)
- Label the Ethernet port for easy identification
- PoE ports power the access point and provide data
Ethernet Cabling:
- Use Cat6a Ethernet cables
- Run cables from the network panel to the access point through the attic
- Ensure cables are neatly managed and labeled

Access the attic to run and manage Ethernet cables
- Utilize cooler months like February or March to work in the attic (especially in hot climates like Las Vegas)
Tools: flashlight to avoid losing it in the attic

Bracket Installation:
- Mark three hole locations on the ceiling
- Drill holes and use screws and drywall anchors if necessary
Attach Cat6a Cable:
- Connect to the PoE++ port on the access point
- Note: PoE++ provides a 2.5 gig connection
Mounting the Access Point:
- Screw the access point onto the bracket
- Ensure a secure fit
