Biblical Foundations of Love and Attachment #10

Jesus is the answer for the world today above him thereus the way today we're going to be talking about the relationship of Faith with love and then the counterfeit of Love called lust and we're going to be going back and taking a lot of the information that you had before when we talked about faith and love and we're going to be looking at some Bible models that deal with those particular areas and talk about those things and the thing to realize is that attachment is the critical part of this because attachment really is how you act out on your feelings of love and actually your attachment style has a lot to do with how you feel about other people and whether you attach closely or whether you attach very lightly to other people it has a great effect on you and the interesting thing here in the first model we're looking at the Bible gives us a set of stories that are all in the Bible together of four different people that have all four of those attachment Styles remember the attachment Styles we talked about a number of lectures ago remember we talked about a secure attacher this is the person that believes other people are okay and safe and that they're okay and they're lovable and then we had the ambivalent attacher or the cautious attacher they believe they have to work to be good enough to be loved but other people are safe and then we have the avoidant attacher and the avoidant attacher is the one that doesn't trust anyone else except themselves and relies on themselves and finally we had the disorganized or the fearful attacher and that is the person that really doesn't feel they can trust anyone else but they can't trust themselves either unless they perform adequately and in the Bible we have just this wonderful model dealing with this particular area and the model is going to be about Jonathan David Saul and Michael or Mel however you want to pronounce her name so let's sort of see that particular area and we're going to start with Jonathan and Jonathan is our secure attacher his name means Jehovah has given and I'm going to suggest to you that secure attachers are an absolute gift from God because you don't have all the drama you don't have all the junk and yet they'll be so close and they'll stick with you and they'll be loyal and everything is wonderful remember God is the ultimate secure attacher isn't he so let's take a look at that in 1st Samuel 13:2 Saul chose him 3,000 men of Israel wherefore 2,000 were with Saul in mcmash and in Mount bethl and a thousand were with Jonathan at giba of Benjamin and the rest of the people he sent every man to his tent so Saul his dad really is able to tr Jonathan in fact he's the other Commander Saul's got 2,000 men he's got 1,000 men in now Chapter 14 verse 49 now the sons of Saul were Jonathan Yeshua Melua and the names of his daughters were these the firstborn was meah and the younger Michael so the first requirement for secur attachment is what you see yourself as someone that's lovable and somebody that's okay that other people can trust and look out for now Jonathan was the Crown Prince he's going to be the next king so do you think he probably got treated pretty good and people said good things about him growing up yeah he probably got this sort of automatically right but the second part of being a secure attacher is you have to view others as trustworthy to provide a safe haven for you and Jonathan trusted his father now I don't know if he should have because his father is going to be our fearful attacher and he's going to run totally a muck but Jonathan is able to trust him some way anyway how could that really be possible notice this in 1 Samuel 13:22 so it came to pass in the day of battle that there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people that were with Saul and Jonathan but with Saul and with Jonathan his son was their found so when they only have two weapons Saul gives one to Jonathan so how much is he trusting Jonathan tremendously more than anyone else 1 Samuel 14:6 and Jonathan said to the young man that bear his armor come and let us go over unto the Garrison of these uncircumcised it may be that the Lord will work with us for there is no restraint with the Lord to save with many or with few so what is Jonathan's secret he has tremendous Faith here he's saying there's this huge Army out there they only have two weapons he's got one of them he says this armor Bearer hey doesn't make any difference how many there are of them God can win the entire battle just you and I let's go take them on is that fairly secure but notice he's also not dumb look at verse 10 but if they say come up unto us then we will go up for the Lord hath delivered them into our hand and this shall be a sign unto us and they climb up to the enemy and they start the battle and God sends an earthquake and all sorts of stuff and the enemy end up fleeing all over the place and they win this huge battle Because he believes in God so much see how is he handling other people well I know my dad's got all these problems but God's going to make up the difference God's going to work it all out see the secure attaching person is one that really trusts in God because let's be honest about this can I 100% trust me can I 100% trust you no but the reason I can trust you and trust me is because God's going to make up the difference and we're going to see that's a real key here of changing attachment Styles later on as we look at that particular part of it those with secure attachment styles are able to freely give themselves without requiring anything in return what's that called unconditional love 1st Samuel 18:1 and it came to pass when he made an end of speaking unto Saul that the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David and David loved him as his own soul so how deep are these eight people be able to attach very deep aren't they like his own Soul verse 183 and Jonathan and David made a covenant because he loved him as his own soul and we need to have a covenant with God but we need to be the place that we can really care about people in life where we love them as our own soul and notice what he did here verse four and Jonathan stripped himself of his robe that stands for his reputation that is upon him and gave it to David and his garments that's his character even to his sword his words into his bow his strength and power into his gird his heart so he's giving everything to David he trusts David completely do you see that connection and he's not worried about his reputation he's not worried about all of these other things he's just willing to give 1st Samuel 19:1 and Saul spake unto Jonathan his son and to all of his servants that they should kill David now why we're going to see later because the ladies were saying Saul has killed his thousands and David his 10 thousands and Saul being a fearful attacher which we'll be looking out later gets jealous and wants to kill David but notice what Jonathan's able to do verse four and Jonathan spake good of David unto Saul his father and said unto him let not the king sin against his servant against David because Heath not sinned against thee and because his Works have been to thee very good in verse six and Saul hearkened into the voice of Jonathan and Saul swear as the Lord liveth he shall not be slain so a secure attacher can really be a good mediator can't they because everyone basically trusts him he can even get his dad to change his mind about David later on we see it went bad the wrong direction verse 43 then Saul said to Jonathan tell me what thou has done and Jonathan told him and said I but did taste a little honey at the end of the rod that was in my hand and lo I must die and Saul answered God do so and more also for Thou shalt surely die Jonathan and the people said unto Saul shall Jonathan die who have wrought this great salvation Israel God forbid as the Lord liveth there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground for Heath wrought with God this day so the people rescued Jonathan that he did not die what went on remember when he went up and started that battle well they would Chase in the enemy and Saul said no one's allowed to eat any food until he kill all the enemy and Jonathan didn't hear the command so going through the forest he took some honey and ate it well when the King Saul his dad found out about it he said Jonathan must die he disobeyed the command is his dad very safe what would you start thinking about your dad if over something like that he was going to have you killed and the people had to rescue you from your own dad look at another instance 1st Samuel 20:33 and Saul cast a javelin at him to Smite him whereby Jonathan knew that it was determined of his father to slay David we call that domestic violence as somebody takes a spear and throws it at you but how does Jonathan respond most of us if you're not a secure attacher how would you react I'm out of here I mean this guy is crazy I got to protect myself but see secure attachers are so secure they don't they can still relate however because secure attachers are secure they can be counted on to do what is right for everybody involved 1st Samuel 204 2 and Jonathan said to David go in peace for it as much as we have sworn both of us in the name of the Lord saying the Lord be between me and thee and between my seed and thy seed forever and he arose and departed and Jonathan went into the city 1st Samuel 23:16 and Jonathan Saul's son arose and went to David into the wood and strengthened his hand in God here he is his dad's so mad about him because he cares for David they'll thow a javelin at him but what dides Jonathan do when David is hiding out first David even lets him know where he's going to be how much is David trusting Jonathan he knows Saul's trying to kill him and he goes to The Hideout of David and strengthens David's hand when he knows his dad is trying to kill David see how strong he is 1 Samuel 23:17 and he said unto him fear not for the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee and thou shalt be king over Israel and I shall be next unto thee that also sa my father knoweth do you hear what he's saying Jonathan is so secure that he doesn't care if he's King although he is the Crown Prince in fact he says David I take hey what you be king I'll be second to you how secure is this guy how do you like to be like that we'll talk about that later the next guy in our story is called David and David's name is beloved and he's our cautious or ambivalent attacher and we're going to see some very interesting things about him as we go along in this story that maybe you haven't put together before about ambivalent attachers those with an ambivalent attachment style do not believe they are worthy of love and support of others unless they perform adequately to deserve that love David was the youngest how did his brothers deal with David well he's just equal to a slave because that's what sheep herders really were he was the youngest and they basically pretty much despised him in fact when Samuel came and said you know I'm here to anoint somebody King they didn't even bring David did they and then when David Goes to the battle he's just going there to bring him bread and how do his brothers treat him look at 1st Samuel 17:28 and eliab his elder brother heard what he spake unto the man and eliab's anger was kindled against David and he said why cometh thou down hither and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness I Know Thy pride and the naughtiness of thine heart for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle do they put much stock in David can you see why David doesn't really feel that maybe he's good enough unless he performs well enough and so what does David do he performs performs performs he's the all ultimate people pleaser isn't he in fact he goes over there and he wants to please so bad he doesn't care if he gets killed he takes on Goliath no one else in the entire Army will take on Goliath they're not that dumb but David believes in God to the extent and he's so desperate to get approval that he'll take on Goliath anyway believing that God is going to rescue him and make it okay and what's interesting after that is see David was already playing the harp for Saul and after he takes care of Goliath King Saul has to say and what's that young man's name I mean he's been playing the harp all this time for King Saul he's been right there and King Saul hasn't even noticed him doesn't even know what his name is until he kills Goliath ambivalent attachers view others as safe and trustworthy to provide a safe haven for them throughout David's life he is naive Beyond imagination because he trusts everybody think of some of the people in his life he trusts King Saul he trusts joab his commander who kills everybody in sight he trust a hippel as one of his advisors who turns against him he trust amnon who rapes his daughter and he trust absum he trusts them all they all turn against him and he still cares for him do you see how maybe he's a little bit over the top in the direction of trusting other people where Saul is totally in the opposite direction yet Jonathan can trust anybody the ambivalent attachment will continue to pursue unreliable attachment figures even after they prove themselves unsafe hoping to perform well enough to be accepted by them here's King Saul has his army chasing David again and again and again right let's look at a couple examples what David does 1st Samuel 24:10 behold this day thine eyes have seen how the Lord hath delivered thee today in my hand in the the cave and some bade me kill thee but mine eyes spared thee and I said I will not put forth my hand against my Lord for he is the Lord's anointed David and his men are all hiding in this cave the King Saul goes in to go to the bathroom in the cave they're right there they could have killed him he spares them and what does King Saul say oh David you're right you're so great you're so wonderful next week he's chasing him and killing him again and he does it again look at 1 Samuel 26:23 and the Lord rendered to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness for the Lord delivered thee into my hand today but I would not stretch forth my hand against the Lord's anointed they're in Camp they sneak down they get his Spear and his water jug David sparth him again how many times is he going to spare King Saul from killing him how many people you know when you could kill your enemy and they're right there the one that's trying to kill you you would not kill them he believes King Saul can still turn around doesn't he he believes they can still have a good relationship and look at 2 Samuel 11:17 and David lamented with his lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan his son when they were killed in battle David is distraught over Saul the guy who tried to kill him most of his life now let's look at our avoidant attacher and this is Michael and Michael means who is like God now what's the problem to the avoidant attacher the void and attacher because they don't trust anyone probably including and they only trust themselves who do they rely on and they s of act like they're God they run their own life they're going to take care of themselves and that's what this is all about they do not view others as safe but if you were brought up and you're the daughter of King Saul would you view other people as safe especially when this is his opinion of Michael 1st Samuel 18:20 and Michael Saul's daughter loved David and they told Saul and the thing pleased him and Saul said I will give him her that she may be a snare to him and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him wherefor Saul said to David Thou shalt this day be my son-in-law in one of the Twain her dad sees her as someone to marry David to destroy David isn't that a good opinion and he actually uses her as a bribe to get David to go out and kill a 100 he actually killed 200 Philistines to get her to wipe out David if you were Michael how would you feel about people if they're going to treat you that way and that was their overall attitude of just using you the way things are there but see she really cared for David but does she attach very closely first King Saul is now trying to kill David again and he sends his men to surround their house and what does Michael do this is 1st Samuel 19:12 so Michael let David down through a window and he went and fled and escaped now think about this if King Saul will throw javelins at anyone that makes him mad and you are his daughter and you help David Escape what does that tell us you really must care for David you're willing to take a chance on your life because she could have been killed for that couldn't she verse 17 and Saul said to Michael why hast thou deceived me so and sent away mine enemy that he has escaped and Michael answered Saul he said unto me let me go why should I kill thee CH 25:44 but Saul had given Michael his daughter David's wife to ftil the son of Lees which was in gallan which is interesting here is his names all mean he's a very good guy so Saul just anuls the marriage to David and gives her to this other guy and ftil means my deliverance and he's the son of Lees which is lion which is in gallan which means Springs or life see he's a pretty good guy isn't he but as things go on here David basically wins the conflict because Saul is killed in battle and David now makes part of the peace treaty getting Michael Back 2 Samuel 3:14 and David sent Messengers to ish Saul's son saying deliver me my wife Michael which I as spouse to me for aund foreskins of the Philistines look at verse 16 and her husband went with her along weeping behind her to Bam then said her un him go return and he returned so this guy must have really loved her right but now let's see what happens just because you're a man or God's Own Heart does that mean you really have a clue about marriage see what's really going on think about it ladies from your point of view here this guy delivered you took care of you you're doing just fine and your ex-husband sends an army Commander to get you because you are now made part of a peace treaty and you have to go back to your ex-husband do you feel very valued and by this time David has several other wives how do you feel well let's see how she felt David now is bringing the Ark of the Covenant into Jerusalem and he's dancing before the ark and he gets excited and takes off his shirt and Michael is looking through the window what do you think's going on inside of Michael right now could she be jealous and here he's showing off for all these other women what would you think if your husband did something like that took his shirt off and went dancing before all the women 2 Samuel 6:20 then David returned to bless his household and Michael the daughter of Saul came out to meet David and said how glorious was the king of Israel today who uncovered himself in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncover himself is that sarcasm what's that called contempt what's contempt contempt is when you feel ashamed and you're trying to deflect it verse 21 and David said to Michael it was before the Lord which chose me before thy father and before all his house to anoint me ruler over the people of Israel Over Israel therefore will I play before the Lord what's he really saying first what does her family have to do with this nothing saying hey God chose me over your dad and by the way if I want to act like that I'll act like that more in other words in your face how do you think that affected the marriage 2 Samuel 6:23 therefore Michael the daughter of Saul had no child until the day of her death that tells me either there was a problem or she didn't have sex basically the marriage basically broke up course she can't get out of this marriage can she married to the king but it gets worse because they see as things go on what happened next about 10 years later David is up on his castle looking out and he sees this lady with name of bash Sheba taking a bath and he has an affair and worse than that but she would becomes number one wife how do you think Michael's feeling now that's what we call the path of disaffection it gets worse and worse and worse and worse but let's see how bad it really gets here there is a famine in the land and David goes to God and says why is there a famine and God says because of the way King Saul treated the gianitsos that had made a peace treat rather than be destroyed when the children of Israel came and they were supposed to be taking care of the hauling wood for the Temple and so on and so forth and King Saul had persecuted them so David Goes to the giban ites and said what should I do for you and they say hang 10 sons of Saul so now David can pick out who these 10 are and so chapter 21:8 and the King took to two sons a rispa the daughter of ARA which she bear unto Saul amanah in Mish bolth and the Seven Sons of Michael the daughter of Saul which she brought up for Ariel the son of basela the mahit her sister meah must have died and so she is bringing up these five kids and what does David do of all the sons and relatives of Saul he could hang he hangs her five adopted kids what can you do worse to a woman then kill her kids you see how bad this is and you can see how light the attachments are when you're talking to somebody that has a a void an attachment Style and what do you think has happened here remember what do they believe you can't trust anyone you think she can trust anyone now when her own husband hangs her kids see the problem is in a relationship like this when you're avoidant you automatically assume they're going to do terrible things to you and everything is going to be bad and you can't trust them so almost no one can ever prove they are trustworthy to you now let's look at the last one which is a disorganized attachment style or the fearful attachment style the first thing we see about King Saul is that when they're trying to Crown Him King he's hiding in the baggage why would you hide in the baggage if they're trying to Crown you King cuz you're very insecure inside aren't you and remember Saul as became jealous and chased David all over the place to kill him because David was performing better than Saul was performing war in 1 Samuel 22:17 and the King said unto the footmen that stood about him turn and slay the priest of the Lord because their hand also is with David and because they knew that he fled and did not show it to me but the Servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priest of the Lord what's that all about when David was running away he happened to go by and there was a priest there and the priest helped him but the priest had no idea he was running away from King Saul but when King Saul heard about it he not only killed all the priests he wiped out the entire town thing that's how angry and how jealous this guy is remember this is the same guy who threw javelins at David and threw javelins even at his own Crown Prince Jonathan so how safe is this guy by the way and what goes on with them well what goes on is remember they can't trust anybody else but they also feel inadequate themselves and so they tend to bounce back and forth like he did with David remember when David would spare his life oh David you're so great you're going to be the king in my place I know that you're so wonderful David but as soon as he sees David as a threat again he's chasing David to kill him so he goes between almost that ambivalent type of style and that avoidant type of style based on individual situations so how stable emotionally are these people not at all and many times they'll even commit suicide as we'll see here in a little bit going back a little bit in Saul though where did that come from do you remember initially when we see the story of Saul he's trying to find his father's donkeys donkeys stand for capability so do you see he's a people pleaser he's trying to please his dad but he can never live up to his dad's expectations see these people whatever they try turn to Mush he's got everything going for him doesn't he he looks good in the outside the Bible says he stood a head taller than anybody else in Israel but he's so codependent that he will not kill the amalekites as Samuel asked him to that he pretty does his own thing and then he turns it all on himself listen to this after he was sent after the amalekites 1st Samuel 15:20 and Saul said unto Samuel yay I have obeyed the voice of the Lord and have gone the way which the Lord sent me and have brought AAG the king of amalec and have utterly destroyed the amalekites well first he was supposed to kill them all and everything they had so how come he's got AAG now look look at verse 24 and Saul said unto Samuel I have sinned for I have transgressed the Commandment of the Lord and thy words for I feared the people and obeyed their voice So within a short period of time he comes from saying I did it all good everything's great I did whatever God told me to do and very shortly later he's saying yeah you're right I totally blew it so you see the emotional swings all over the place that are going on here and how did it affect him 1st Samuel 18:10 and it came to pass on the tomorrow that an evil spirit from God Came Upon Saul and he prophesied in the midst of the house and David played with his hand as at other times and there was a javelin in his hand and Saul cast the javelin for he said I will Smite David even to the wall with it and David avoided out of his presence twice see how emotionally distraught a evil spirit the Bible says gets a hold of people like this and they do all sorts of things mean all David is doing is playing the harp and knowing David I doubt if he missed the note what do you think I don't know what it took but sa throws javelins at him but how does it eventually turn out 1st Samuel 313 and the battle went sore against Saul and The Archers hit him and he was sore wounded with the archers then said Saul unto his armor Bearer draw thy sword and thrust me through uh therewith lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through and abuse me but his armor bear would not for he was so afraid then Saul took his sword and fell upon it what happened in his life he got so distan from God he had to go to a whtch to bring Samuel back or his familiar Spirit back and even though that familiar Spirit tells him tomorrow you and all your sons are going to die he still goes into battle because he can't lose Faith notice something else that's interesting here Jonathan knowing all that is so loyal to Saul he goes into battle and dies with him so the problem is you can get to the place these people can be a suicidal and because they don't want to face what's going on in their life they might even kill themselves as king saw did so here's a question we have to think about here okay the majority of people in this classroom probably are insecure attachers I hate to tell you that how do we change from being an insecure attacher to being a secure attacher and we already looked at this this is a little bit of review when we looked at this before but I want to just run over this very rapidly we still have one more subject to deal with it we must be saved and believe that God will meet all of our needs in order to feel secure and overcome our selfishness God is the ultimate attachment figure because he loves us unconditional we'll never abandon us can never fail us and is always available and is emotionally sensitive to us so the second thing you need is that personal relationship with God and learn how real attachment is how secure attachment is because God is the perfect secure attacher we need to see oursel as God does as one of his dear children whom he loves without regard to our works or even our failures we need to see others as God sees them they are also his children through faith and he loves them even with all their mistakes and failures insecure attachment stars are changed through experiences of healthy Earthly and Heavenly attachments think now of David and Jonathan how did David end up being such a good secure attacher at the end of his life through his relationship with God and his relationship with Jonathan in fact we we find this that David really cares so much for Saul and for everybody around him and after abelam who ran this Rebellion against him is killed by joab what does the bible tell us [Applause] here 2 Samuel 1:23 Saul and Jonathan were lovely and present in their lives and in their death they were not divided they were swifter than eagles they were stronger than Lions verse 25 how are the Mighty fallen in the midst of battle oh Jonathan thou was slain in thy high places I distressed for thee my brother Jonathan very pleasant hast thou been unto me thy love to me was wonderful passing the love of women and then concerning Absalom 2 Samuel 18:33 and the King was much moved and went up to the chamber over the gate and wept and as he wept thus he said oh my son abs my son my son abelam would God I had died for thee Oh absum my son my son to see over a period of time David was able to finally become a secure attacher even to his enemies the people that were out to kill him the people that were out to hurt him we have one more topic we want to look at because we're talking about real love there and we're talking about attachment aren't we but there's a counterfeit for love and that counterfeit is called lust and we want to take a look at that because how many people do you know that may struggle with some lust problems now lust isn't only sexual it can also be for money it can be for all sorts of other things here is a definition lust means a strong craving or desire or an intense sexual appetite lust is the flesh's counterfeit for love and the story we're going to look at here is the story of Lot's firstborn son through incest with his elder daughter and his name was Moab and Moab represents lust so if we have a story of a battle against Moab what are we battling against lust okay so let's look at judges 3:12 and and the children of Israel did Evil against the sight of the Lord and the Lord strengthened Egon the king of Moab against Israel because they had done evil in the sight of the Lord so what gets us sucked in the lust when we're not obeying God when we're trying to meet our own needs be our own God how are we going to try and meet him through our own efforts and when you try to meet them through your own efforts they don't work and see if something isn't working what do you have to do do more of it and more of it and more of it and more of it to try to make it work and you trying to meet your own needs is never going to work and that's how things turn into lust and eventually turn into addictions judges 3:14 so the children of Israel served Egon the king of Moab 18 years I always look at the numbers and see what they mean we're talking about here is 10 stands for human infirmity but eight stands for something new so have a combination of 10 and8 and they served for 18 years so that means God is going to do something new now right but it was human infirmity that got them in the trap in the first place chapter 3:1 15 but when the children of Israel Cried unto the Lord the Lord raised up a deliverer ehad the son of Gira a benjamite a man left-handed and by him the children of Israel sent a present to EG the king of Moab again what are the names ehad I will give thanks or strong benjamite means son of the right hand or one favorite of God Gera means of grain which B basically talks about fruit and ehad was left-handed what is Left-Handed hours mean something different it's not the norm so you're going to have have to do something different now a lot of people make a big mistake in the area of lust they try to take it on and they go around saying I'm not going to do it I'm not going to do it I'm not going to do it I'm not going to do it I'm not going to do it does that work if you try to overcome the lust in your life with your own efforts your flesh see is the flesh ever going to overcome the flesh not going to happen that's what make that's why this story is so interesting verse 16 but ehad made him a dagger which had two edges a two-edged sword is what the word of God a cubit length that's 18 in and he GED under His Garment upon the right thigh it's interesting here see if a guy comes in with a sword they're expecting on the left thigh because you draw it with your right hand so they're not probably going to notice that this dagger is on the other side where you normally don't put a sword Because unless you're left-handed you couldn't draw it but they don't know he's left-handed verse 17 and he brought the present unto Egon king of Moab and Egan was a very fat man that's a characteristic of lust isn't it how about people that have a lust for food how do they end up very fat and when he had made an end to offer the present he sent away the people that bear the present you mean this guy is acting like lust is his friend why is he doing that because you can't take lust on from the front you can't use the flesh to stop yourself from lusting verse 19 but he himself turned again from the quaries that were by gilgal queries are where they cut out Stone to make idols and said I have a sec eron unto thee Oh King who said Keep silence and all that stood by him went out from him see what does lust want it wants its needs met for itself does it want to share with anybody else no way so he has all his guards and everybody else go on because this is a secret errand you know last I've got a secret for you wouldn't you like to know this now let me show you my secret verse 20 and ehad came unto him and he was sitting in the summer parlor which he had for himself alone and he had said I have a message from God unto thee and he arose out of his seat and he had put forth his left hand and took the dagger from his right thigh and thrusted into his belly the belly is what hunger so what are you going to have to do take the word of God and say lust I have a message for you come here and you take the word of God and you say God is going to meet all my needs I don't need you you are going to die in verse 22 and the half also went in after the blade and the fat closed upon the blade so he could not draw the dagger out of the body and the dirt came out he's so fat when he sticks the dagger in the fat cloths around the handle so he can't even pull the dagger back out you can't even see it now the next verse we have to make sure we understand what is being said here in the Hebrew because if you read it in a usual version you're going to miss a important Point here look at judges 3:23 in the King James then he had went forth through the porch and shut the doors of the Parlor upon him and locked them but in the Hebrew this is what it really says this is a New Living Translation then ehad closed and locked the doors and climbed down the latrine and escaped through the sewage access yeah the way he escaped was in the king's place was a latrine and to clean the latrine out everything that goes a latrine goes into a shaft out here and they have an opening what's it saying to us to deal with lust you got to go through all the filth you got to recognize the stuff you're involved in the pornography or the other stuff that you're involved in and it's got to gag you can you see yourself climbing through a latrine to escape well to get away from less you've got to see less that way you've got to see at that terrible ugly smelly wretched junk that you don't want in your life anymore judges 327 it came to pass when he was come that he blew a trumpet in the mountains of Ephraim what's Ephraim again we're dealing with emotions and we're dealing with shame because that's the thing that's going to try to work against you in the area of lust and the children of Israel went down with him from the mount and he before them and he said unto them follow after me for the Lord has delivered your enemies the moabites into your hand and they went down after him and took the Fords of the Jordan toward Moab and suffered no man to pass over and they slew Moab at that time about 10,000 men all Lusty or fat All Men of Valor or strength and there Escape not a man so Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel and the land had rest four score years that's 80 years what is that telling us you can defeat lust in your life through the word of God through trusting God in faith to meet all of your needs so they can be defeated for your entire lifetime do you believe that that's what it's telling us and it's giving the principles how to do all of those things so what have we done in this course at this particular point we start out talking about how the process of salvation by faith Works psychologically and it was all by faith wasn't it it's God moving us from selfishness to be conformed to the image of Jesus Christ then we talked about the trial of your faith and the principles of faith of how you can grow your faith so you can win every one of those trials in your life victoriously we talked about how you can increase your faith abundantly in those areas then we talked about self-worth significance love insecurity the principles of dealing with those and now we've integrated those into sort of counseling plans into counseling models to deal with the common problems that we have in life what's this telling us God has answers we just need to get into the word to understand those answers and apply them in our lives and we can be totally delivered totally set free grow from glory to glory and become everything that God wants us to be through God's plan of salvation by faith let's pray Lord we thank you that you provided everything that we need for life and godliness and Lord that you've helped us to understand it and I ask that you help us to grow our Faith Lord God that we might trust and rely on you and that you might transform us into everything you've always intended us to be and we give you the glory and the honor in Jesus name amen Jesus is the answer for the world today above him there's no other Jesus is the way Jesus is the answer for the world today above him there's no other Jesus is Way
