[Music] what's up everyone and welcome to this lesson on Fahrenheit and Celsius now in terms of weather and temperature we know that very low temperatures represent cold weather and as the temperature rises to higher numbers the weather gets warmer and warmer now even when the weather is the same the values that we use to measure temperature are relative to what systems of measurement that we choose to use now the letter F stands for degrees fhe which is the system that we use in the United States and a few other places in the world the letter c is going to stand for degre Celsius which is the system that is used everywhere else like seriously everywhere else now fortunately we can easily convert back and forth between these two different measurement systems so here's the formula for converting degrees Celsius to degrees fah now we can solve this equation for C using a little bit of algebra if we start out by subtracting 32 from both sides of the equal sign that'll cancel out on the right side over on the left side Fus 32 we're just going to leave as the expression Fus 32 since they are not like terms and cannot be combined now over on the right side I want to get rid of that fraction that 9 over 5 so I multiply both sides by its reciprocal 5 over 9 on the right side those fractions will cancel out and now we have C by itself and we see here now we have the formula for converting degrees fahren to De C so now we're ready to go ahead and familiarize ourself with using these formulas to convert back and forth between degrees Fahrenheit and degrees CS so for our first example we want to go ahead and convert 35 de C to degrees fahren so we want to use the Fahrenheit formula here so we can substitute 35 for C and now all we have to do is evaluate 95 * 35 is equal to 63 and then 63 + 32 equals 95 the number of degrees in Fahrenheit so if you're used to the Fahrenheit scale if you saw 35° you might think that that represents a very cold temperature but in reality in degrees Fahrenheit it is a very warm temperature now for our next example we want to convert 50° Fahrenheit to degrees Celsius so we're going to use the Celsius formula here start by replacing F was 50 and now just evaluate 50 - 32 in parentheses is equal to 18 and then 5 over 9 * 18 is equal to 10 so again if you're used to degrees Fahrenheit if you saw 10 degrees you might think that the weather is going to be pretty cold when actually it's really not even that [Laughter] bad thank you again everyone one for joining us and please reach out to us on Twitter @ mashup maath we are dying to hear from you so please share some love all right we're done here
