Revit Tutorial with Zachary Brown
Introduction
- Revit is a tool for creating 2D and 3D models on Windows.
- Home page options: Start a new project or open existing ones.
- Project Types:
- Models: Complete projects.
- Families: Single compositions usable in multiple projects.
Categories of Projects
- Architectural: Buildings.
- Structural: Materials and foundations.
- Systemic: Tubes and conductors.
Starting a Project
- Click New and select Model.
- Choose between Imperial or Metric scale.
- Main interface components:
- Main preview: Center.
- Panels: Left side (show/hide via View > User Interface).
- Ribbon bar: Top (contains all Revit tools).
Interface Overview
- Build Section: Under the Architecture tab for creating buildings.
- Tools accessible by arrow clicks.
- Hover for more information.
- Preview View: Displays project from top to bottom (Level 1 view).
- Scope boxes: Green lines for larger projects (hide by right-clicking).
Creating a Floor
- Use the Architectural Floor Tool:
- Enter Edit Mode (green modify tab).
- Drawing tools: Lines, arcs, splines, rectangles, polygons, circles.
- Close shape or press Escape to finish.
- Undo: Escape key or Ctrl + Z.
- Approve with Finish Edit Mode.
- Editing rendered objects: Double click to enter Edit Mode.
- Drawing aids: Snap to object key points, guidelines, and measurements.
Walls
- Wall Tool: Add walls along floor contours.
- Walls automatically join at intersections.
3D View
- Access via View > 3D View.
- Features:
- 3D View Cube: Adjust views, orbit, rotate.
- Navigation wheel: Pan, orbit, zoom.
- Measure walls using "Measure Between Two References" tool.
Customizing Walls
- Double click to enter Edit Mode and reshape sketches.
Levels and Elevations
- Found in Project Browser panel:
- Levels: 2D top-down views.
- Elevations: 2D side views.
- Create new levels and elevations for fixed points of view.
Adding Components
- Door Tool: Place doors.
- Window Tool: Place windows.
- Components: Add furniture, tubes, and more.
Roofs
- Roof Tool: Define roof shape and base level.
- Slopes: Automatic with "Defined Slope" option.
- Customization: Add points/lines, enable "Modify Sub Elements".
Final Adjustments
- Change visual style (bottom of the interface).
- Rendering: Go to View > Render.
- Modify objects with blue nodes or delete.

- Save projects: Ctrl + S (saves as .rvt files).
