GCSE geography urbanization urbanization is the growth of people living in urban areas around 55 percent of the world lives in urban areas and this figure constantly increases however the rate of urbanization different differs between richer and poorer countries higher income countries for example the UK and Japan are more economically developed they have already experienced urbanization and roughly 80 percent of their population already live in urban areas therefore there is a low rate of urbanization in lower income countries licks such as Ethiopia and Afghanistan they are less economically developed and are currently experiencing urbanization roughly 30 percent of the population already live in urban areas and therefore they have a high rate of urbanization newly emerging economies needs are where there is a rapid economic development for example Brazil and China around 50 percent of the population live in urban areas and they have medium rates of urbanization [Music] rural to Urban migration is the movement of people from the countryside to the city the rate of rural to Urban migration is affected by push factors which encourage people to leave an area and pull factors which encourage people to move into an area push factors include natural disasters which damage property in Farmland rural areas find this hard to recover from desertification fewer jobs and lack of Education opportunities pool factors include quite frankly the opposite more jobs more economic opportunities access to Better Health Care and to join other family members that have already moved there thank you for watching if you found this video helpful be sure to subscribe and for more advice check out my Instagram at nowhere for GCSE thank you for watching and see you soon [Music]
